Really Works / Cables are Annoying
on September 6, 2017

The WeBoost Drive really does work. I was very skeptical since cell phone coverage has come a long way since the early days in the 90s. I thought, is there really a need? Then I got to thinking about my daily trip into and out of my office. It's on the side of a hill and a parking garage provides a very annoying 5 minutes where I have very little signal. Certainly not enough to make use of data, sometimes not enough to get a text out and I would never try to make a call. After installing the WeBoost Drive, I instantly noticed that I could 1) use data like normal 2) send/receive text messages without issue and 3) Phone conversations could be had without a problem. I'm very pleased with the performance! It only increased the bars on my iPhone by 1, but as other reviewers and the documentation that accompany the booster say, you cannot rely on the signal bars on your phone to measure performance of the booster. Use the actual performance of your phone to measure it.
Installation was much easier than I expected. I thought it might require drilling holes and pulling up carpet. Not at all that complicated. You basically find an appropriate place on your car/truck/suv, place the magnetic booster antenna, run the wire inside your vehicle and then snake it to the power source and cradle. I will say this, it isn't necessarily the most aesthetically pleasing thing having wires running through your vehicle, but you can make them fairly discrete by running under the carpet/mats. The installation guide that came with the WeBoost Drive was very easy to follow and gave specific tips for different types of vehicles.
As others have noted, when connected, the booster does get hot. Not warm, but hot. No danger of starting any fires so don't panic, just be prepared. It's like the underside of your laptop when you've been doing some serious graphics.
Everything with the WeBoost Drive feels very well made and of high quality. It's not designed to be a permanent fixture on your vehicle so you'll want to take it off before going into a car wash or driving through any tornadoes.
In conclusion, I think the WeBoost Drive is an excellent solution to a very big problem for some. It was an annoyance for me to be left without much usable service immediately after work when you want to let everyone know you are free and coordinate plans. For those who live in low signal areas and spend a lot of time there, it could be more than just an annoyance and more of a critical need. The WeBoost Drive should help you out quite a lot. Remember, the booster needs something to boost so if you are in an actual black hole for your cell phone carrier, it's not going to work. If it's simply a very poor service area, you should get some good use. The only thing I didn't like is that the wires running from the inside to the outside are just unsightly (in my opinion). I wish there was a solution that could sit on your dash and then wirelessly transmit a booster signal to your phone without the need for wires running everywhere. To be clear, the boosted signal is wireless, it's just the antenna that picks up the signal to boost is then transmitted back to the cradle for wireless transmission. I'd be very happy if were just one node all built into one. Sit it on your dash and enjoy. But that isn't the case and as I said, it does work so that's the whole purpose. In fact, you probably could place the antenna somewhere in your car which would minimize the wires. I didn't try this so just thinking out loud. Either way, I'd highly recommend if you want/need to improve your cell reception.
Pros:
-Build quality
-Performance
-Cost (I found it to be a very reasonable price for the performance gained)
-Flexibility (works with any cell carrier)
Cons:
-Too many wires/unsightly (for me at least)
-Adapter and booster can run hot when in use

Surpassed All Expectations
on August 14, 2017
Posted by: abl001

My impression of inkjet printers are that they are sloppy and slow. Not to be used for anything that really matters. Printing out a report for school? Sure. Photos or a resume? Never. I've been a loyal laserjet user for ten years. No more. The HP ENVY Photo 7855 has completely changed my mind. Not only was it super fast, but it was very detailed.
First, right out of the box, this printer was more slim form than my current all-in-one which is quite bulky. The HP ENVY Photo 7855 is quite sleek and the build quality is quite impressive. I've found most printers to be pretty cheaply constructed but everything about this printer seems to be solid and of high quality.
On to setup...My experience was less than satisfactory. I found it clunky whether trying to complete from the app or manually. Granted, I didn't follow the quick start steps, but I'm technically capable of setting up a printer without following a guide. I think this did contribute to some of the hangups, but missing one step shouldn't require unplugging the printer and starting over. All of that said, I did get it working after a short bit. Hopefully your experience (following the directions) will go more smoothly than mine.
For functionality and features, I couldn't be more pleased. My previous all-in-one was wireless/networkable, but didn't have any phone/app connectivity. The scanning function could also be pretty tricky requiring a separate program installed from a CD. The HP ENVY Photo 7855 scans and prints easily with the touch of a finger directly from your phone or from the touch screen display on the printer itself. Copies and faxes can be easily accomplished directly from the printer. This can definitely save some stress when trying to get a document scanned and sent on a deadline. Most of your settings can be configured via the free app which also gives you ink levels so you know when it purchase replacements. All of the functions seem to operate much more quietly than my previous laserjet all-in-one.
Finally, print quality is excellent. I printed a full page photo and the detail was as good if not than better my professional grade office color laserjet. IIt's more than adequate for anything that you'd be printing on regular copy paper (reports, charts, pictures, graphics, etc.) After purchasing some HP 4x6 photo paper, I decided to print a couple of pictures from a recent trip. The pictures could've been printed in a professional photo shop as far as I'm concerned! I've attached some pictures of the final product but I can tell you that I'm completely blown away and impressed. The two 4x6 photos were printed using the best quality setting while the full page was printed using the normal setting.
In conclusion, I would absolutely recommend this all-in-one for anyone who wants a flexible and functional printer at home OR for your office. Inkjets aren't the most economically smart choice if you print a lot, but might be perfect for your home use or want to use this to print photos. I can't say how far the color ink will go. After printing just two 4x6 photos at the best quality and a full page photo at normal quality, the app is saying color ink is down to 80%. So, not sure exactly how long the cartridges will last. Also, these starter cartridges can sometimes have less capacity than the full replacements. Anyway, just something to consider. I imagine most of your printing will be black/white and require a lot less ink than full-page photos or ink heavy 4x6 photos. I'd highly recommend this printer to anyone at home or even for an office as long as you aren't printing a ton. Then you might want to consider a laserjet for economical reasons. Just keep in mind that laser toner isn't cheap--especially color toner!
Pros:
-Print quality (color and black)
-Photo prints are amazing
-Price
-Build quality
-Speed
-Functionality (great app)
Cons:
-Ink use
-Setup (follow the guide, don't go rogue like me)

Excellent Design with Decent Sound
on August 9, 2017

The LG SJ8 Hi Res Sound Bar was a breeze to setup. Simply plugged in the HDMI cable from the cable box to the sound bar, another HDMI from the sound bar to my Samsung TV. That was it. The TV immediately recognized it and I began to experience the nice sound from the SJ8.
The sound has excellent clarity throughout a wide spectrum of sound. I would say it excels in highs and mid-range sounds and performs decent as far as bass goes. The separate active 6" subwoofer nicely compliments the soundbar, but I wish it had a little more power behind it. Still, it's plenty to fill a room and provide an immersive experience--just not one that will make you feel the bass or rattle the walls. Sometimes I like that, but the bass can also overwhelm some scenes. The LG SJ8 won't ever do that. I found it did a pretty good job of balancing when the bass needed to come out and when it was unnecessary.
The design of the SJ8 is really fantastic. It is extraordinarily thin and even includes an 8 character LCD display so you always know what setting you are changing. All of the ports provide easy access for the cables so whether you are mounting it or letting it rest on a stand like me, it lies flat and looks nice. The subwoofer isn't very large (6.73" x 12.6" x 9.92") so it can be discreetly placed around your room. The sub design isn't an eye sore either so it's not something that'll stick out if you can't place it somewhere out of sight.
In conclusion, I really enjoyed the LG SJ8 for its ease of setup, multi-function (HDMI, Optical, Wi-fi, and Bluetooth), and nice sound. I can tell you that I've tried 3 other soundbars all priced around $600 and only one that is a premium brand sold in the Best Buy Magnolia store performs better than this one. I deducted one star simply because I would've liked a little more bass from the sub, but like I said, it does a pretty decent job and I probably like more bass than most.
Pros:
-Ease of setup
-Good sound range and clarity
-Price
-Design/Appearance
Cons:
-Slightly lacking in bass (if you like a ton of bass that can shake walls)

Good Sound/Better Fit
on August 2, 2017

The Logitech G433 provides a better than most audio experience. You can really immerse yourself in 3D audio from your games which adds to the experience. It is a flexible headset that can serve as a wired headphone set or headset for gaming on your PC/Console. I appreciate that it can be used for both gaming and music/phone/headphones.
The microphone performance is good and I like that it can be detached if you simply want to use it for a listening experience.
The fit and feel of this headset is above that for most...even those three times it's price. It's big enough to fit even those with dumbo ears but still fits firmly (but not too firm) around those with smaller ears.
As far as sound quality, I would rate it at a 4 simply because the sound could come across as a bit flat noted. It can lack depth but still provides a very immersive 3D surround experience.
Overall, the Logitech G433 is an easy to use and nicely built wired headset. Obviously, I prefer wireless. However, I think this is a very nice gaming headset for the pricepoint and is worth the extra money for what you get.
Pros:
-What's included (headset, mobile 3.5mm cable with inline mic, USB Digital to analog converter, PC splitter, carrying case, PC/console cable with mic mute and volume control, and a second set of over ear covers)
-Price
-Simplicity
-3D Surround
Cons:
-Not wireless
-Can lack some premium depth of sound quality

Whole New Experience w/ Home Brewed Coffee
on July 23, 2017
Posted by: abl001
from Maryland
I'm generally a skeptic when it comes to things like expensive coffee makers, toasters, microwaves, etc. However, I was pleasantly surprised when my Ninja Coffee Brewer arrived. Not only is it of much better quality than your average $50 coffee pot, it looks very high tech. Every piece of the brewer is built with a function and out of high quality materials. Nothing feels cheap at all.
The coffee brewed has an instantly noticeable difference than that from your average coffee pot. The aroma and flavors are more full and come through with every sip. The coffee isn't better at all. Just solid and bold.
There are several settings which come in very handy. You can fill the water reservoir and then brew a full carafe, half, or a single cup. This is very nice if you only want a couple of cups. Since I use mine at work, it saves some trips to the sink. There is also a feature to simply keep the pot warm rather than continuing to brew more coffee. This is helpful if you're taking a while to drink your coffee. This unit also comes with a reusable filter which I appreciate. Another helpful feature is a flip down stand that you can sit a single cup of coffee. This prevents the coffee from splattering since it is elevated.
In conclusion, I'm extremely pleased with my Ninja Coffee Brewer. I'm actually going to start exploring some more premium coffees now that I can actually taste the difference in coffee beans unlike with my previous brewers.
Pros:
-Flavor
-Strength selector
-Build Quality
-Features
Cons:
-Is a bit taller than your average pot

Good Design, Immersive Sound
on July 13, 2017
Posted by: abl001
from Maryland
The LG TONE Studio HBS-W120 may seem a little gimmicky at first with its horseshoe design and external speakers, but I do find that it has a purpose for some. Primarily though, it's purpose is as a wireless headphone/headset so for this review, we'll start there.
The headphones provide good clarity--especially for the mid and high ranges. Bass is very average and I really wanted more. I found my favorite test tracks with rumbling bass to be completely flat. With that said, you do get a different experience without all of that bass drowning the other notes out. So for headphone sound, I'd give the LG Tone Studio a 3.5 if you are looking for bass, a 4 if looking for good high end notes.
I felt like the LG Tone Studio impressed as an external speaker. The four speakers (two facing upward just below your ear and two facing downward on the lower part of the unit) really provided an immersive 3D surround sound experience. It was a little unusual to have a small external speaker(s) provide that kind of enveloping sound. As with the earbuds, the external speakers provided better high and mid-range sound than low. The lower speakers (presumably for the lower notes) produced a strange tickling/vibrating sensation. I don't know if this was intentional to add to the experience or not. I really can't tell you if I really enjoyed it or not. Part of me wanted to believe it added to the experience, but with such a lack of actual bass, I found it to be odd and unnecessary. If the bass actually had some depth, the vibrations/tickling might have been worth it. Overall, the external speakers provided a nice listening environment that kept you aware of your surroundings with some pretty good sound quality. I definitely heard things that I hadn't heard with other speakers while listening in this mode. I'm not sure how many people want to walk around listening like this, but I found it useful around the house. In public? You're likely to annoy everyone and the LG Tone Studio might be wrapped around your neck in a not-so-good kind of way.
The Design of the LG Tone Studio is very nice and well thought out. The horseshoe shape feels comfortable around the neck. It isn't too stiff and isn't too flexible. It's very light and I never felt like the Tone Studio was going to fall off. In fact, I slept with this on a couple of nights and woke up with it still in place around my neck. This was impressive. It also kept up with me moving around the house doing normal household chores. I found the controls to be easy to use. The one area I have concern are the very very thin retractable wires that connect the earbuds. They are so thin I feel like a moderate yank could pull them out or that they could be damaged easily. The good news is that they are retractable and didn't get in the way like my other over-the-neck wireless headphones. Those wires are too long and do get in the way. Maybe this isn't a problem, but the appearance of the wires alone make me worry they won't last a long time with frequent use/abuse. Other than that, I think the build quality is very nice and the Tone Studio looks as stylish as an over-the-neck headset can.
Battery life and charge times are both excellent. The headset function (taking phone calls/using voice commands on your phone) worked very well and seamlessly with my iPhone 6s PLUS. This was very nice as I sat on the phone with an airline customer service line for over an hour in a fairly noisy environment.
Overall, I think if you are wanting a solid set of wireless headphones to use at home/at the office and not interested in bass, these will serve you just fine. If you are really wanting anything resembling bass, look elsewhere. The external speakers can be useful depending on if you want to listen to it around the house, but as I mentioned earlier, anywhere in public and you'll just be a nuisance. If you are looking for headphones to travel with, these would not be my first or second choice. LG does not provide a carrying case with your LG Tone Studio purchase which is a shame. The horseshoe design does not lend itself to be transported without risk of damaging the unit and at $229, it's not something I'd want to destroy by accident.
Pros:
-Design
-Function
-Battery life
-Charge time
-High/mid-range notes
Cons:
-No bass
-No carrying case
-Vibration/tickling sensation provided when using external speakers

Good Headphones, but with issues
on July 10, 2017
Posted by: abl001
from Maryland
First, let me start off by saying that I had the highest hopes for the JBL Everest Elite 750NC headphones. At $299, these should have premium sound. Unfortunately, the set that I received has issues which I feel are preventing me from making a complete review.
I cannot give these headphones anything more than 2 stars because at moderately high volume levels, I am having massive distortion with bass that these should easily be able to handle. It only happens when noise cancelling is active and can be eliminated by holding the headphones firm against your ear--but one shouldn't have to do those things. Further, sound quality and volume is considerably lower when noise cancellation is off. It sounds very flat and you can't turn the sound up enough to get it up to the levels it easily achieves with noise cancellation activated. It can handle the highs and mid-range, but if it's a loud scene with explosions or just really loud, the distortion starts sound like a blown speaker. I think I have a faulty set and have contacted JBL to inquire about a resolution. Until then, I can't give a fair review of the headphones.
As far as build quality, I found the headset to look very nice and feels like it was made of quality material. The ear pieces are very comfortable and the headband doesn't bother me. The controls are also easy enough. JBL also included a very nice hard carrying case with a mini case inside for the micro USB charging cable and the 3.5mm audio cable that are included. I thought this was a really nice touch rather than just have them bouncing around in the main case.
For now, I'm going to assume my experience is isolated and that I have a defective set. Although it's worth pointing out that others have experienced similar problems with bass. JBL says that what I am experiencing is not a normal, but we are still troubleshooting. Until this is resolved, I don't feel like I can make accurate reviews of the other noise cancellation, ambient awareness, and TruNote features. I will make updates once we have resolved the issue.

Good Design, Average Sound
on July 1, 2017
Posted by: abl001
from Maryland
JLab got a lot of things right with these headphones. Unfortunately, the primary factor in headphones is the sound and I found that to be a big miss.
First, I found the design of these headphones to be comfortable and very good for activities like running, biking, or at the gym. The over the ear wires just need to be bent into shape so that they fit snugly behind the ears. I will say I felt the earbud piece was a little bulky. I hoped this meant there would be incredible sound...but it didn't. More on that in a minute. The controls were simple and easy to use although it did feel a little awkward reaching so far up on my neck to adjust the volume. Still, I have another set of wireless earbuds and the wire is way too long so it is even more awkward. I found that the short wire and the way they wrap over your ear to stay in place to be quite useful.
Second, the sound quality. I was very disappointed in this category. Bass was lacking which was surprising considering the larger than usual earbud piece. High and mid-range quality was average. Not much more that I can say other than it was very lackluster and I would've expected more from $99 headphones.
Third, connectivity was very easy and worked as expected. Range was a little less than other earbuds I have, but still adequate for most uses.
Finally, JLab included a really nice carrying case that goes along with these earbuds. Additionally, they included six pairs of gel earbud tips which should be able to fit most needs. I found this to be a nice surprise since this can be a major issue with many people. The carrying case is very handy and I think I'll use it for some of my other headphones too.
In conclusion, I think these headphones are just average. I really knocked off two whole stars simply because of the audio quality. It's not bad, but it's certainly not good or great. The design, features, and included accessories were a nice touch but they don't make up for the lack of sound quality. If you care more about the design, these might be for you. If you're looking for premium sound quality, look elsewhere. Because I put sound quality above the design, I wouldn't recommend this to a friend.
Pros:
-Design
-Ease of connection
-Included accessories (6 pairs of gel tips and a nice carrying case)
-Battery life (approx 12 hours tested and confirmed)
Cons:
-Sound quality

Good Router w/ Convenient Smart Home Hub
on June 28, 2017
Posted by: abl001
from Maryland
The Samsung Connect Home Pro is a pretty nice package that performs two increasingly important functions in your home. The first is as a mesh (expandable) router. While this isn't the most powerful router, it is more than adequate for your average household. The individual unit is rated at 1,500 square feet and I actually got a little better coverage than this. The quad band router is more than capable of handling multiple users streaming HD video as well as multiple users surfing the web simultaneously. There are two ethernet ports on the back which is enough for your TV and a gaming system which is what most people would connect via that method.
The second function the Connect Home Pro performs is as a smart home hub for all of your connected smart gadgets. For me, I only have Phillips Hue lights and a Samsung Smart TV. Everything else in my place is 'dumb.' That being said, it was easy enough to connect the lights to the hub via the Samsung Connect smart things app. It's really important to note that while I don't have many things to connect now, I expect to have many in the coming years. Everything you buy these days is connected from coffee pots to refrigerators to your thermostat. Is the smart home hub of much use to me now? No. Will it be? Absolutely.
Overall, I think this router/smart home hub is a great value for the money. There are routers with similar specs/speed that sell for the same price with none of the smart home functionality. Additionally, those other routers aren't part of a mesh network which allows seamless expansion and constant connectivity without the need for devices to switch between wi-fi sources. If you buy the Samsung Connect Home Pro now, it will expand with you as your household and smart device collection expands. The other routers won't do that and you'll find yourself shelling out more money to do what this device does in one stylish package. Yes, it's quite small and blends into the background unlike some of the beastly routers I've seen.
Pros:
-Functionality
-Expandability
-Style/Size
-Ease of use
-Price
Cons:
-Not the fastest router out there, but more than adequate for the average home

Disappointing for a Premium Price
on June 22, 2017

I was ready to be blown away given the excellent reviews posted by other users--especially in the bass area. Unfortunately, I was left wondering what others were hearing that I was missing. I tried this in a couple of different setups just to cover my bases. The first setup was with a high end projector system with audio connected via optical cable directly from the video/audio source. Playing from a Blu-ray, you expect a full range of detailed sounds. While the Samsung 3-channel Hi-res soundbar delivers excellent high and mid-range sounds, I found the bass to be severely lacking with this particular setup. Given that the PS3 I was using can be particular in the audio signal area, I thought there might have been some signal loss or at least not full utilization. It's also worth noting that the optical cable does not support DTS HD and TrueHD signals while the HDMI does. The second setup was directly from my cable box and 6000 series Samsung TV via HDMI. I could definitely tell a difference in the bass, but it was still disappointing given the $450 price range. Now, the bass wasn't absent and might even be sufficient for your average user, but I like nice quality bass. Not the trunk rattling kind, but the kind that can make you feel it in your bones with those deeper notes. It's all about quality over loudness.
The build of this soundbar is typically high quality coming from Samsung. I found the setup to be a breeze and there were multiple options for use (Optical, HDMI, USB, Bluetooth, and Wireless). I didn't use USB and found the wireless option (requires download and signup through an app) to be a bit clunky and more effort than I like to spend. BT connection was as easy as finding the soundbar on the list of options and hitting connect. Within seconds I had great music playing directly from my phone with good 25-50ft range depending on walls. Setup via the optical cable was equally as easy although I'd recommend HDMI if using for TV/blu-ray as it can transmit higher resolution audio and specific signals that the optical cannot. The only drawback to HDMI are that the cords are so large and can be unsightly. Another potentially problematic area is that this soundbar is really large...and may be a little too tall for some TV stands so that it blocks the IR remote receiver (it did mine).
More specifically about the sound...The highs and mid-range sounds were crisp and extremely clear--better than my current premium sound bar. Again, where this soundbar lacks is in the bass range. You just can't built a really good sub into a soundbar. This soundbar does have an option to wireless connect a rear speaker, but there were no sub options that I could find. It's perfectly fine for everyday TV listening and is definitely better than builtin TV speakers, but if you really want to experience your movies then you will need more bass or you will be severely missing out. Great clarity overall even if lacking in the bass area.
In conclusion, I'd say this is an adequate soundbar for someone who just wants more than their TV speakers will deliver, but doesn't want to be transported to the scene with enveloping sound. Unfortunately, the soundbar comes at a relatively premium price and I know from personal experience and use that there are better options (especially for bass) in the same price range. It would be really hard to top the high/mid-range clarity so if that's what you want, fine. That said, the high/mid-range isn't going to "wow" anyone...The bass is what should really impress people and this unit just doesn't do it. I would also give it high marks for a really nice remote, but that is a minor aspect.
Pros:
-High-range clarity
-Mid-range clarity
-Ease of setup
-Versatility in connection methods
-Build quality
Cons:
-Severely lacking in bass
-Price
-Size is pretty large for a soundbar

Keep the music going at your next party or backyard barbecue with this Sony portable Bluetooth speaker, which features a six-hour battery life. The compact size fits neatly on a desk or table, while the splash-proof design makes this speaker perfect beach adventures. Use the on-speaker buttons to start your tunes or turn up the volume. This Sony portable Bluetooth speaker comes with EXTRA BASS sound to bring out the best in your playlists.

Can you skip songs using the volume buttons on the speaker?

Yes. By pressing the play/pause/call button twice quickly during playback, the XB01 will skip to the beginning of the next song. I found it necessary to wait a second or two until the next song began playing before skipping to the next song. If it registers your presses too close together (3 presses), it may think you want to go back to the beginning of the current song.

Surround yourself with robust audio performance in a slim package with this LG ultra-slim soundbar. Compatible with the latest LG televisions, the compact soundbar pairs seamlessly to deliver an immersive audio-visual experience. The 4K high resolution audio on this LG ultra-slim soundbar lets you hear the action in every scene.

Two questions: 1) Since this sound bar does not have a center speaker, how is dialogue clarity? 2) Can the subwoofer just be used occasionally; that is can it be turned off and on?

1) Dialogue clarity is excellent! 2) The sub can be turned down via the remote control so that it is virtually inactive. You can also adjust the sound EQ to turn the bass up or down to your preference. I found the LG SJ8 to really perform well in not overpowering the bass like some subs can do.

Immerse yourself in music or movies with this LG TONE Studio wearable speaker. It has four drivers to let you experience three-dimensional surround sound and feel low-frequency vibrations from the bass through your body. This LG TONE Studio wearable speaker is Bluetooth compatible for easy connection to your smart devices.

so this is a speaker that you wear around your neck? Does the sound work with and without the ear buds?

Yes. There is a switch on the neckband that allows you to easily switch between headphone mode and external speaker mode. You can set the unit down and listen without wearing it, but the sound quality is much much better when worn as intended.
