nice fit, decent sound and good price
on March 20, 2019

The Logitech G432 surround sound gaming headset fits nicely and is comfortable to wear for extended period of times. My ears did get a bit warm but it didn’t bother me too much. Sound while using them will vary from what device you are using. For example, the Switch sounds pretty good, and I can adjust the volume on the switch itself and even more on the headphones. When I was playing on the Xbox One or PS4, I could only adjust the audio with the headphones and they were not that loud. Sound bleed from the outside is pretty bad with these and I was trying to play PS4 in a loud environment and I could barely hear the sounds of the game. They do seem to get a lot louder when being used with a computer or phone. This is where they really shine and the 7.1 surround sound can be heard fully that way. The 3.5mm cable is a good length and is hard wired into the headphones. Which could be a bummer if you have a damaged cable and you would have to throw these away. The microphone works well and my friend on the other side of the skype call I tested said that he could hear me very well with no feedback. I was able to mute the microphone by simply folding it up and out of the way. I do like these and the price that they are make them a pretty good deal, but for a little more you can get more options with their other offerings.

Great camera, monitoring service extra
on March 8, 2019

from Sparks, NV
The Nanit Plus Smart Baby Monitor has great resolution and the live feed is pretty responsive with little lag. Setting up the stand is pretty straight forward when you follow the instructions in the app. If you pull everything out of their snug packaging you may be a bit confused on how to put it all together. The USB cable is protected by the posts and you will have some left over to plug into the power outlet. A strap is included in the packaging to secure the stand to the wall with either adhesive or screws. I used the adhesive mount and the side of the crib helps to hold it in place. On the opposite side of the poles are a couple of rubber pads that sit against the wall to protect it. I did have an issue with connecting the camera to its mount. I had to bend the USB Type-C connector a little bit by wedging a flathead screwdriver between it and the two metal posts below it, it was slightly bent and the camera would not slide in easy. After I bent it back, it connected fine and I have had no further issues. Setting up the camera with the app was a breeze and it walks you through everything. I was disappointed that the monitoring feature does cost an additional amount with this, for the price you should be given at least a year of free service. They do offer a 30-day trial, but you have to have your credit card info ready so when the 30 days are up they can auto charge you. I opted not to do that so I can’t write about the monitoring features. I was just using this as a standard baby monitor with push notifications. You can set up the sensitivity of the sound and motion, but I really didn’t notice much of a difference and I have received a lot of notifications. It is nice that it will alert you to sound, motion, temperature, and humidity and the latter two you can adjust those to your liking. The picture quality is great and you can save a quick photo and share it as well. The push to talk feature works well if you have great service, but that is to be expected. I do like the night light feature of the camera, the whole top portion provides a good amount of light and for us it was perfect. Overall if they were to include a year of service I would recommend this, but since the cost is pretty high for this I would have to say there are more reasonable options out there.

Wow, fun drone! Great Video!!
on February 27, 2019

from Sparks, NV
I finally found some time to take this out into the nearest body of water to me. It was a man-made lake that wasn’t the clearest, but I do plan on going up to Lake Tahoe as soon as the snow clears, that is a very clear lake and it will provide for some awesome video. When I opened the box and pulled out the suitcase that the PowerRay Wizard is packaged in I was very surprised. The case is first class. Hard foam cutouts provide a spot for everything and straps hold down the PowerRay and the tether reel, so they don’t move. The suitcase has a lock on it as well and you can easily change the default password to make it secure so little hands (my kids) can’t get into it. It’s not meant to keep someone with metal cutters out though and the zipper handles can be cut with a little effort. Still, it’s a very nice feature. The case will scratch on concrete so be careful of that, when I used it I brought a towel with me and I laid it on the towel to protect it from scratches.
To get it set up I downloaded the PowerVision+ app, and the only way I was able to locate it was scanning the QR code in the quick start guide. I tried doing a search on the google play store and I could not find the right one. Setting up the drone after that was fairly easy, but it is a bit confusing on which Wi-Fi to connect to. For some reason, when you turn on the base station, it creates two different Wi-Fi connections. A PSAxxxx and a PRAxxxxx, connecting to the PRAxxxx allowed me to see the video from the PowerRay on my Galaxy Note8. I should note, that the PowerRay atomically turns on once you connect the tether to it. At first I had no issues with it as I launched it in the water. You have to be careful to unlock the propellers once it’s in the water (hold left shoulder scroll wheel left and press the fish finder button until it vibrates) and unlock by (holding the left shoulder school wheel right and pressing the fish finder button until it vibrates) before you remove it from the water. Once I thought I had it all set up and ready to go, I was able to control it, but I didn’t have a video feed on my phone. I could see the pitch and angle and depth of the device but no video. After every combination I could thing of with powering on/off reconnecting to the network and so on, I finally pulled the PowerRay out of the water, dried off the tether connector (has to be keep 100% dry) and reconnected the tether and the video came up immediately. After that I was finally able to see what the PowerRay was doing. Low speed is your best bet to get used to how it moves, but when you put it in the high speed this thing really moves and is more agile. Battery life is rated for about 4 hours and I am sure that is what you will get out of it.
Once I brought it home I was sure to rise it off with clean water and I let it dry out pretty good. I did notice a few scratches on the PowerRay from when I got a bit too close to the bottom of the water and the dive motor propeller was nicked up pretty good from the rocks on the bottom of the lake as well. Nothing too bad though and doesn’t hurt the functionality. Trying to transfer the video’s over to my Note8 was a bit of a challenge and the 1.2GB video that was about 2 minutes took a while to transfer over and it timed out a lot.
Overall, I really enjoy this drone and I look forward to taking some great 4k videos with it and exploring the underwater world that most of us never see up close. The kit is a little pricey, but it is well made and worth the cost.

Huge camera, good day time video
on January 5, 2019
Posted by: jago
from Sparks, NV
The Rexing V2 front and rear dash cam preforms pretty well for a dash cam. The video quality is great with the ideal lighting conditions. I noticed the night video was good enough to see what was going on, but not good enough to make out plates or ID someone. The day video was just about perfect, especially at the 2160p resolution. I don’t see a need for me to use the rear camera, my cargo work van has no rear window and I really don’t want video of me. I don’t see the rear camera as being very useful in my personal car either since you really don’t get a view of the outside. It would be perfect for the UBER/Lyft drivers though. Setting up the camera was pretty simple; the instructions are fairly clear and detailed. I did have to purchase a micro SD card, it can support up to 128GB. It comes with a suction mount, which was worthless, and I couldn’t get to hold it at all, and a 3M adhesive mount which did the trick. Just follow the instructions for the 3M tape and you will be good. The instructions clearly say not to use any charger other than what was included, and it would have been nice if the charger did have a USB slot for your phone. I recommend the hard wire kit (9.99 on bestbuy.com) so you can free up your car charger for something else. The menu interface does take some time getting used to and I recommend spending some time with it before you try to do anything on the fly or while driving. It will allow you to easily mute/unmute the mic or start/stop recording. All in all, it’s a decent dash cam that is big. I would prefer a smaller model with GPS built in, charger with a USB port, and a micro SD card included in the package.

Awesome little on-the-go scanner
on December 30, 2018

The Epson ES-55R portable USB scanner has become very useful to me. It’s very portable (just requires a USB type A connection), lightweight, easy to use, and scans a normal sheet of paper in just under 6 seconds. It comes with Nuance Power PDF software and other software that you can use to organize your receipts and create searchable PDF files. The Epson SmartScan software to organize your receipts will automatically pull information out of the receipt such as the vendor, date, price, how you paid, etc. and is a time saver if you want to organize you receipts for tax purposes and such. You can easily export them as quicken files or .csv files as well. The Nuance Power PDF software works well and when you create your PDF file you are given the option to make it searchable, a regular PDF, or a .jpeg file. There are many options for creating files and I am very impressed with that. I did find that when you are scanning items, that they could easily get skewed a bit. I haven’t had any jamming issues, but it does pull the paper in and if you don’t have it lined up perfectly, it will be off a little. Not a big deal, but something to note. I look forward to scanning my upcoming receipts this year and being more organized with those and this scanner and software combo will help with that.

Fast boot up and decent at gaming.
on December 19, 2018

Speed!! If you love speed, then this might be the computer for you. Boot up takes a quick 6-10 seconds and that is due to the 256 GB SSD that Windows 10 is installed on. Not the biggest drive, but it is fast, and you also get a 1 TB SATA HD that you can store all your data on. 16 GB of SDRAM, running at 1331MHz, with room for another 16 GB stick as well. You also get an Intel Core i7-8700 (8th gen) processor. Video is provided by a Nvidia GTX 1060 dedicated card with 3 GB of RAM. This card takes up a lot of space inside with the onboard fan to keep it cool. There are no additional slots to add any other cards though, so you are stuck with just one PCI-E slot. The outside of the case makes you believe that you could add additional peripherals, but I don’t believe you can. The side of the case is glass that provides a nice view of the internals. There are lighting options that you can play around with as well. You can change the light inside using the OMEN command center software and you can also change the OMEN logo color as well. Visually, this computer is very nice and clean looking. Now, there is no DVD drive so if you want to use optical media, you will have to get an external USB device. Not a big deal to me since nearly everything now you can download easily. There is a total of 7 USB ports (2 being on the top front). I found it strange that an SD card slot was not included with this either. The power button is a little recessed and you must use your finger nail to toggle it. I find that helpful and it keeps my little ones from pushing the power button when I am in the middle of a gaming session. You are given a wired USB keyboard and mouse and they are cheap and are not comfortable to use so you would probably want to get a higher end set up for gaming, but it’s nice that they included those, nevertheless.
I was very impressed with the graphics while playing Overwatch and Fortnite. I was able to play at their highest settings and the framerate was smooth and looked great. I ran a geekbench and got an OpenCL score of 119666.
Overall, this system is a great starter system for the money (when on sale). It can handle most anything you throw at it and unless you are the most hard-core gamer, you can’t go wrong with this. Most people don’t mod their systems or even upgrade them and just want something to work right out of the box. I can say that you would be happy with this one…except for the mouse, keyboard, and maybe the optical and SD card slot options that are missing.

Use the Google Smart Light Starter Kit to control the lights using just your voice. Set up in a snap: just plug in Google Home Mini, screw in the GE C-Life smart light bulb, and download the Google Home app to get started. Then just say "Hey Google" to dim, brighten, turn on and turn off the lights."

Great google device, decent smart bulb
on December 5, 2018
Posted by: jago
from Sparks, NV
The Google Home Mini is great and works perfectly. The speaker is decent for it’s size and you won’t have any issues hearing it in under most conditions. The mini is responsive to your voice and you can just talk normally to interact with it. The GE C-Life smart bulb that comes packaged with it connects to the google mini via Bluetooth. I was able to connect it to my Google Home (not mini) that I had already and set up was easy and straight forward. It is recommended that the bulb be close to the google mini for the pairing to take hold. I had them about 25 feet apart and I didn’t have any issues. The GE bulb is a warm color and that is the only color that it projects. Their other bulbs, the C-Sleep will go from Warm to Cool, but again, this one will not. I find that to be a minor annoyance, but I am sure there is a marketing reason for that. This set up will allow you to dim the light and turn it off and on. I haven’t found a way to set up a schedule in the google assistant app, but if you use the C by GE app then you have more control over that, but Google home mini is the recommended way to use this since they are paired together in this package. I have not had any issues with connectivity at all, and the light has always responded to my commands. This is a good way to get started out if you don’t already have a Google device. The distance limitations though of 50 feet, you might want to think about other smart light solutions if you are planning on doing a whole house.

love the look of smoothies now

The Ninja Smart Screen Kitchen System with FreshVac has 1400-watts of power and it looks very modern with the nice responsive touch screen. There are a lot of features and accessories that come with this package. You get two 20 oz. single-serve cups that you can take to go, two lids for those cups, a 72 oz. FreshVac pitcher, a 40 oz. processor (for chopping, pureeing, mixing or making dough), and a slicking/shredding disc, along with the FreshVac pump that attaches to either the single serve cups or the 72 oz. pitcher. What this does is suck out all of the air in the container, similar to what a food saver vac does. When you remove the air, say when you make a smoothie, the color is richer, and it does taste smoother than when I made one without taking the air out. Both tasted great but the color of the freshvac one was superior. All the components are well built and feel sturdy and the blades are sharp and work well. Washing them in the dish washer is ok to do and I just put them on the top shelf with no problems. There are 9 pre-programmed settings that the blender has are a very welcome addition and take a lot of the guess work out of blending…at least for me. This blender replaces my old trusty 1100-watt ninja blender that has served us well, but this is leaps and bounds better and more advanced.

Great cleaning and voice control
on November 30, 2018
Posted by: jago
from Sparks, NV
The Shark ION S87 Robot has a few quirks about it that I find a bit worrisome, but overall, I am impressed with the system and how it works. Cleaning power is great, and I have had no issues with how well it cleans. The amount of dust in the dust bin is always a surprise to me after a cleaning. The suction power manages to pull dirt and pet hair from the carpets on a daily basis. The addition of the cord-free handheld vacuum is a very welcome addition. However, I used to keep my old ION robot parked under a table in my dining room, but this model will not fit with the charging bay for the hand-held. A minor inconvenience I admit, but the previous spot I was able to minimize the amount of times my toddlers would “play” with the robot. The dust bin itself holds plenty of dust and debris and I have been able to run it three times without having to empty it. Run time has been a consistent hour each time. Even in max mode I get an hour but advertised run time is 2 hours in normal mode and less in Max mode. I have tested the noise level between quiet, normal, and max mode and my readings showed about a 5dB between each mode. Max mode wasn’t that loud, but it would be annoying if you are trying to watch a TV show perhaps. There is a bit of confusion with the HEPA filter. The dust bin says to clean weekly by tapping it and to not wash it, the manual says it’s ok to wash with water and fully dry out over a 24-hour period. I am not exactly sure which one is correct, but my old shark ION robot I did wash the filter (which had the same warning on the dust bin) and it worked out fine. Now for the quirks that I mentioned earlier. The robot has just stopped at different times and gone back to the base station, the app displayed an error that it got stuck on an ‘uneven’ surface. Also, it did get stuck under a chair and displayed the error that it got stuck on a boundary strip. That time it just stayed put and didn’t go back to the charger. Another quirk is how you have to open the dust bin…. it’s hard to explain, but you have to hold it with one hand and use the other hand to both depress the button and lift the top open at the same time. I prefer the old design much better. The dust bin filter seems to get a lot of dust trapped in it and I am not sure how well it cleans after that, but you will have a good amount of buildup on that. The navigation 2.0 seems a bit jerkier in it’s movements than the previous model, but I think this new version has a rougher time navigating around my home, but with that being said, it seems to have a better chance of not getting stuck which my pervious model would get stuck once in a while. I really like being able to ask Alexa or Google to start the cleaning and I find that feature to work pretty well. The app will give you stats like how long the robot has been cleaning, it’s current charge level, it will beep so you can locate it, pause cleaning, of course start cleaning. Over all, I am looking forward to this robot doing a good job keeping my floors clean between our regular vacuuming.

Not bad, but better options out there...

The GE C-Sleep bulbs provide 800 Lumens of output and use 10 Watts of power. They connect via Bluetooth to my Google home/mini very easily. They do have to be within a certain range, they recommend that the google device be in the same room, but I have mine in the kitchen and it controls it fine in my upstairs master bedroom. There is a C by GE app that you can download and use instead of using a google device, but I did not try that out. The box says that the lights can phase through three different outputs from cool (white) for the morning, to soft white (during the day) to warm (yellowish) for the night. However, that feature is ONLY available if you use the C by GE app and not google home. Maybe that will change in the future. If you want to be able to control the lights from outside your home, you will either have to get the C-Reach bridge device or use a smart plug to do that. Chances are you won’t have a need to control them that way though, since I found that schedules work just fine to simulate someone being home and most of the time that I do use voice control is when I am first coming home and my hands are full of stuff or I am already in bed. These are a pretty inexpensive way to install smart bulbs in your home, but I wouldn’t put them everywhere. I prefer the Philips hue products over these, but they are a lot more expensive. This is a good set for usage in certain areas, say in bedrooms.

Simplify your everyday life with the Google Home, a voice-activated speaker powered by the Google Assistant. Use voice commands to enjoy music, get answers from Google and manage everyday tasks. Google Home is compatible with Android and iOS operating systems, and can control compatible smart devices such as Chromecast or Nest."

Why is it so expensive?

Price is all relative. I didn't find it to be that expensive. It has a great speaker and it simply works really good. Its priced $50 cheaper than the Echo and the speaker quality is as good if not better.

We live in the country, and can only use satellite internet. It is not a real strong signal, and can be affected easily by weather. We also have a log home, which blocks the signal in certain areas of the house and porch. Would this help in our situation?

It won't help with your satellite signal, but the wifi signal in your house could potentially improved.
