Great Sound System at a Great Value

I have heard such great things about Sonos, so naturally I was excited to try out a high quality streaming system. In addition, Magnolia also carries premium products, so I had high hopes for the whole package, and I was not disappointed.
The package includes a Sonos Connect amp, 2 (6”) Sonance outdoor speakers, and a iPort xPress Audio Keypad.
Sonos Connect amp
This is a very easy system to install and use. Just connect the speaker wires to the speakers and Sonos Connect amp (speaker wire not included), download the Sonos app, and follow the step by step instructions. The only issue I had while installing was that the app autoselected a WiFi signal that was not mine. I did not notice this at first, but figured it out quickly since my password was not working. I was amazed at how many music services were able to be linked to this device.
Sonance speakers
The Sonance 6” outdoor speakers are larger than I was expecting and sound great. I had to tweak the equalizer to get the sound I was hoping for. These speakers would probably provide enough bass for about 90% of songs. If you listen to only bass-heavy songs, however, then I would invest in a subwoofer that can connect directly to the Connect amp.
iPort xPress
The only disappointing piece of this kit is the iPort xPress Audio Keypad. This keypad is essentially a remote that will work with only Apple products. It works fine, but I felt it was unnecessary since most people have their phones close by. The inclusion of the iPort xPress would not deter me from purchasing this kit, but I wish the Sonos Boost transmitter was included instead.
I would recommend this package deal, and I was amazed that Best Buy was able to put together such a high-end outdoor system at such a savings, considering how much each individual component costs. Just the Sonos amp and Sonance speakers purchased separately would cost hundreds more.

Good Performance with Full Keyboard

It is tough to find a top-performing laptop with a touch screen for less than $1200. I was surprised that HP introduced a higher-end laptop that could purportedly meet these needs for most users. However, after comparing this model to past models, I am a little perplexed.
Normally in reviews I list different categories I like to discuss, such as performance, build quality, etc; but in this case, my review of this laptop is more illustrative if I compare it to previous models.
The only differences I could see between this laptop and last year’s versions was an added hard drive accelerator, 4 GB less of RAM (previously was 16 GB) and 2 GB of graphics card RAM (was 4 GB). There may be more differences, but I found it hard to accurately compare the 4 very similar laptop models on the website since the key specifications were inconsistently filled in.
I did have two issues with the design. First, since the bottom body panels are not one piece and the design angles inward, a noticeable ridge is formed, creating a rough edge. At this price point, I would expect HP to hide this edge and make it feel smoother and thus more luxurious. Second, since the bottom panel angles inward, the USB peripherals do not sit flush and instead protrude outward (see photo).

Even though this is a great computer, I believe a couple of the other similar HP computers are a better value, and therefore I find it hard to recommend this laptop. I would be more willing to recommend this version with the decreased RAM if HP offered a SSD drive instead of a hybrid SATA (1TB) paired with a 16 GB SSD.

Great 4K LED TV

After my last experience with an under-$500 LED TV (a Samsung), I was dubious that I’d find a worthwhile LED TV within this price range. Therefore I was surprised that Toshiba was able to produce a cost conscious LED TV while maintaining fundamental features, such as a great picture and sound.
Setup
The setup was pretty straight forward. I decided to use a wall mount instead of the legs and I had no problem installing it. The TV sticks out about 5 inches from the wall, which is about the same depth as the soundbar.
The initial programming gave step-by-step instructions and choices, which were easily understood. After the setup was complete, I was watching a show, and the TV randomly locked out the screen, requesting I kept the remote within a close distance while it updated (this took about 3 minutes). I’m hoping this isn’t a frequent occurrence.

Even though I believe the picture quality is better than most of the TVs within this price range, I felt it was not as good as other 4K competitors. I can’t really fault Toshiba for this since they are about half the price.

I am not a fan of internal speakers, but the quality and volume of sound this TV produces is amazing. I was very impressed with how clear the voices were and how loud the speakers were.

I would readily recommend this TV to anyone who has a budget of less than $500 and doesn’t want to sacrifice important features. I believe this is one of the best TVs within its class and price point.

Great Coffee Maker - Barista Quality Taste

I have owned many single serve coffee makers, but find it time consuming to make one cup at a time for guests. The Breville Precision Brewer allows me to make up to 12 cups of coffee or 20 ounces of iced coffee or cold brew at a time.
Since I have not had guest over yet, I have only made single serve iced coffee and am currently brewing a batch of cold brew. It is nice to be able to use whatever beverage holder you want, set the settings up, and not have to worry about accidentally leaving the cold brew going for 3 days, ruining the batch. (see photo)
Pros
I like how well the directions are laid out, and the coffee maker gives step by step instructions on the LCD screen. It also takes into consideration the hardness of the water used and provides a test strip.

I also liked how this coffee maker allows the user to customize settings to tailor to their unique needs. There are already preprogrammed steeping times, but some may like the coffee a little stronger.

If making iced coffee or a single cup, you are required to use a disposable cone filter paper. If you are making cold brew, you need a disposable full sized coffee filter. Breville does include a reusable basket, but is used solely for brewing a full carafe. I wish they would have included reusable filters for each requirement.

Overall, I would recommend this coffee maker for anyone who may need multiple cups of coffee at a time and wants total control of their brew. Great Midrange Gaming Laptop

After using this laptop for the past few days, I am overall impressed with the quality of parts you get for such a low price. Normally, I would pay twice as much for a gaming laptop, but this laptop packs in some higher-end components.
What I liked
I was surprised to find a neoprene case included with the unit. Even the higher-end laptops I purchased in the past didn’t include anything extra.
The laptop is made of mostly plastic, but Acer did a great job making it look expensive with the brushed metal top and exposed red hinge. Cheaper laptops normally feel flimsy, but this was a solid build and had very little flex under pressure. The red backlit keyboard was impressive and did a great job tying the red/black theme together. In addition, the keyboard’s responsiveness was great. Pressing the keys felt about as smooth as I would expect from a more expensive laptop.
The 1080 full HD screen was nice, bright, and clear, which exceeded my expectations. I did notice the viewing angle was not as good as a higher-end laptop, but the great price makes up for this minor drawback.
The sound is not mindblowing, but impressive for this price point. I could honestly not expect any better sound.
The only game I have tried on this so far was StarCraft II, and it performed smoothly, without any lag. I am sure there are more memory/processor/video card-demanding games out there, so I would check the recommended hardware before purchasing.

Great Powered Toothbrush - Not So for the Tongue

After using the Philips Sonicare ProtectiveClean 5100 for a few days, I feel like my teeth are cleaner than with the manual toothbrush I have used for all these years. I like how the 2 minute timer with 30 second notices makes sure I don’t rush and miss any spots. I tried all three settings, Clean, White, and Gum Care, and could feel the differences in each.
The base feels well built, with a nice rubberized finish that allows for a great non-slip grip. The charging base is simple, yet it’s a perfect size and functions as you’d expect. Even though the toothbrush is light, I felt it was a little longer than what I was used to with my manual brushes, causing me to gag. However, I got used to it over time. My biggest gripe would be how the brush head is too small to be used to brush the tongue. The small head size made it easier to get in the grooves of my teeth, but it was no match for my manual toothbrush in terms of cleaning my tongue effectively. If Philips would add a tongue cleaning head and setting, it would be the only brush I need.
I would recommend this toothbrush to anyone wanting cleaner and whiter teeth and anyone who needs a little help remembering to brush for 2 minutes. Just be prepared to find an alternative for cleaning your tongue.

Great Protection for the Whole House

I never thought I would have to protect my printer, thermostat, or Google Home from viruses and Trojans, but after a casino had gigabytes of data stolen through a hacked fish tank, I can understand why a whole house monitoring system is important. Bitdefender is one of the top three antivirus software programs, so I thought I could benefit from another layer of protection. I read how the original Box was difficult to set up, but hoped this version fixed the problem.
The directions seem straightforward, but I had a couple of hiccups during installation. It is important to note that you should first disable mobile data on the device you plan to use to set up the Box.
The first problem I encountered was the Box could not connect to the Internet, and exiting out caused me to have to perform a hard reset (hold the reset button for 10 seconds). I wish Bitdefender allowed a retry instead of requiring a manual installation or this reset.
The second problem I ran into was changing my connection type to bridge mode for a Linksys router using the directions provided by Bitdefender. I have my house set up to continue to use my current router, but you can also replace your router with this device and do not have to complete this step. For newer Linksys routers, you need to go to ConnectivityInternet SettingsConnection Type (select edit)then select Bridge Mode.

I expected my internet speed to slow down a little, but I ended up taking over a 25% decrease in download speed (see photo for details). However, I feel this is a small trade-off for the added protections, and I have not noticed any differences while playing online games.
With the increase in sensitive data we transmit over the internet, it is more important than ever to prevent you from becoming an identity theft victim. I believe this device is worth every penny, even though it does limit how fast my download speeds can be, and would recommend it for just about every household.

Best fitness tracker for < $250 and thin wrists

I would not have thought to consider the Suunto Sport fitness tracker due to its large size and my thinner wrists, but Suunto was able to make the Spartan Trainer just the right size without eliminating key features. This GPS/fitness tracker would be perfect for anyone who is active in just about any sport.
Setup
Setup was pretty straightforward, as I plugged it into my laptop, downloaded Suuntolink, and updated the device while optimizing the GPS, and synced the settings. I also downloaded Movescount on my phone, so I could better track the details of my activities.
I was surprised to find this watch lacked a touch screen and a magnetic charger. The tracker is held in place with a spring loaded clip, which obstructs a tiny part of the left side of the screen.
I was not impressed with the mobile app. It currently lacks key features which are included in the web based app.

I would highly recommend this device for someone looking for basic feature tracking (HR, steps, GPS) while not requiring smart watch features. You will not find a better device for under $250 that will meet your needs. However, if you are looking for a smart watch or require a lot of features and have a larger budget, there are better choices.

Best indoor HDTV antenna

After “cutting the cord” years ago, I was on a quest to find the best HDTV antenna. The best indoor antenna I found at the time was the original Mohu Leaf 50. I was able to receive about 60 channels, with more than 40 unique channels. Overall I was very happy with this antenna, but wished for a stronger signal with less random signal loss.
After installing the Mohu Supreme, my channels became more stable and so far most channels have not lost any signal. The only downside I have found is that this antenna is able to receive 51 channels, while the original Mohu as able to find 59. I would not really classify this as a negative, however, because I have not noticed any fewer channels, so I would guess the 8 missing channels were just bad reception.
I would recommend the Mohu Supreme for anyone looking to cut the cord and have great HD reception. As a note, I live close to a major city, so it’s best to look up signal strengths online first to make sure there are enough towers to provide a good signal.

Awesome oven in a compact size

This is the second countertop toaster/convection oven I have owned and I have to say that I’m impressed.
Setup/Use
Before using it, be sure to run a cooking cycle for 30 minutes at 450℉ under the convection function to burn off the protective coating. This gives off a bad odor, so make sure it is in a well ventilated area.
There really is no need to read the manual, but I did anyway; however, the controls are easy to figure out. Unlike many other toaster ovens, this model is built like a real oven, with thermal insulation to keep the heat in and prevent accidental burns.
I normally use my countertop ovens to make toast, but will use them to make pies and other larger items from time to time. I noticed this unit is very good at cooking evenly. My older unit would cook more in the middle.

I normally use my countertop ovens to make toast, but will use them to make pies and other larger items from time to time. I noticed this unit is very good at cooking evenly. My older unit would cook more in the middle.
Improvements
This is a great oven that is very well built. The only complaints I have is that the knobs feel a little wobbly, and I wished the oven would remember previous settings. My old unit would remember my setting for toast or baking and sometimes I forgot this unit does not have this function and would start the cycle using the wrong settings.

I would recommend this toaster/convection oven. It can easily replace a toaster, be used as a second oven during a lot of cooking, and saves gas/electricity over a regular oven for making smaller meals.

Are you able to put your eye prescription on the frames?
You can have prescription lenses installed. However, you must have Ray-Ban install the lenses for the warranty to remain valid (per Ray-Ban website).

what does the medium size mean? for heights 5'4 - 6'3?
If your height is between 5 foot 4 inches and 6 foot 3 inches, then the medium boots should be the correct size. If the boot size is too small, the compression will not reach the upper thigh. If too long, then I would imagine the boot would push down on the feet and pushing too high on the inner thigh.

When using the charging case to obtain a wired signal such as PC or a laptop, is the internal microphone still operative?
Your question is awesome and made me want to find out. To test, I made a Duo call to my wife using my laptop. I thought disabling my laptop's mic would cause no sound to be transmitted, so I kept it active and walked 30 feet away from my computer into another room. I could hear my wife fine, but she could not hear me. So, in this test, I can conclude the mic on these earbuds do not work while there is an active Bluetooth connection with the charging case.

The question prior was asked if this is for a pair of dumbbells. An individual stated they reached the company and was for a set. Does that mean a set is a pair? Or a set is individual dumbbell set? Please clarify. The website is poorly written.
You receive two complete dumbells (two dumbbells which BOTH have up to 50lbs each). The box it came in weighed over 100lbs. I hope this makes it clear.

Will the dumbells function if there's a power failure with battery depletion?
If for some reason you had a blackout and the base was depleted, then there would be no way for the base to move the inner rod of the dumbbell. You could still use whatever weight was already selected before the depletion and power outage. To be honest, I would not think this should be a concern. If I ran into this situation, I would just hook up the base to a laptop or powerbank to keep the workout going.

Do these take internet?
The dumbbells do not require the internet and connect via Bluetooth via the app on a phone or tablet. If you wanted to do a live training session, your phone or tablet would need to have internet.
