Don't Throw Out Your Old Vaccum
on September 18, 2020

I have bad allergies, so vacuuming is something that has to be done weekly. We have a Dyson Animal Ball which used to help dig out the worst from our carpet. Even after we recently swapped the carpet for vinyl flooring, weekly vacuumings couldn't be avoided. Between working from home and home schooling our 4 year-old, cutting the weekly vacuuming out could definitely help us out. Enter the iRobot Roomba i3 with Automatic Dirt Disposal. I've had limited experience with iRobot's Roomba vacuums before and those I've spoken to about their Roomba haven't had many complaints. In general, I can probably say the same. It's great that we can cut out having to manually vacuum, but there still was a bit of work that had to be done to get a decent sweep. We had to turn on all the lights and put chairs on tables. Even then, there was still some visable debris left on the floor. For our purposes, I think it does a good-enough job. As mentioned in the title, I think we're still going to need to vacuum using the Dyson, but far less than we did before, which should mean that this was a succesful acquisition. Given the existinance of the i7 model, I'm guessing this is the entry level model meaning less powerful suction. You'd probably want to look at the i7 if you want to start getting into solutions that would eliminate manual vacuuming all-together. Also, the i3 doesn't apply HEPA filtering, so you're going to feel the effects of each pass. The Automatic Dirt Disposal base is nice to have so we don't have to empty the Roomba itself everytime. However, it uses a bag. That's understandable given its configuration, but it would have been nice to have a bin that could just be dumped out without having to purchase bags. The iRobot Home app is easy to use and intuitive. As with any smart home product, you have to go through the whole WiFi configuration process before use, but I've dealt with other apps that were much more painful to configure. The app provides a "Vacuum Everywhere" button which is helpful for the initial pass, so the Roomba can learn your floorplan. The app even shows you what the vacuum mapped out. With that, you can creat custom tasks, then schedule when you want the Roomba to go. I thought I'd be able to schedule this to run at night while we are sleeping, but considering how much light the unit needs, I don't think nighttime tasks are happening. The app also tells you how much charge the Roomba has, if you want it to empty its bin, and provides a history. Overall, as long as you understand that this is not a complete replacement for manual vacuuming, and that it'll do a good-enough job so as to allow you to concentrate on other things, I would recommend this product for you. Those with more frequently dirtier floors and worse allergy issues should probably look at upgrading from this model.

Slight changes, big improvement
on September 12, 2020

To preface things, I've been a huge fan of the Anywhere MX line since the first iteration. I've owned each model in this series and haven't been disappointed by any of them. The Anywhere MX 3 is no different. As mentioned, slight changes, but big improvement. First off, the switch to USB-C is awesome. Not having to figure which way the cord needs to be inserted is nice, but the ability to quick charge is key. Sometimes I forget to charge the mouse because it lasts so long, but being able to get hours of use from a short charging period is so valuable. The scroll wheel has been upgraded over the previous version: it's slightly wider. The change makes scrolling a lot more comfortable. I can't say much about the USB dongle connection, because I've gotten this mouse (and the MX 2) for the Bluetooth connectivity. The connection button has been removed from the previous version, but pairing is still intuitive. Lastly, I feel they've changed the contour of the mouse which I feel makes it much more comfortable than MX 2. If you want a dependable mouse to ditch the USB dongle, I definitely recommend this mouse.

Perfect for the COVID World

This is a fantastic little device. Even if COVID hadn't come around, I think this device would still be extremely useful. The sanitizing compartment is big enough to hold phones much larger than any in our household. I was able to fit three credit cards at the same time. I've used it to sanitize my car key fob, credit cards, my phone, keys, etc. It's so easy to use. Just place the objects inside, press the button on the side, and wait for the beep to know when it's finished. The wireless charging is also nice. Of course, it doesn't provide quick charge like wired chargers, but it's nice to have when placing your phone down while streaming music. Not a knock against this product, but I wish i had a bigger one for larger objects.

Awesome Wireless Headphones!
on May 28, 2020

I really love these headphones. The sound quality is fantastic and gives a decent volume range, which can easily be adjusted on the headset itself. The headphones feel sturdy but not too heavy. They are comfortable around the ears for long periods of time. Easily connects to Bluetooth devices allowing hands-free listening. It also includes a 3.5 headphone jack and cord, so you can still use it with devicies that still have headphone jack ports. This is also great because the headphones can still be used if they are low or out of batteries. Albeit, the sound quality dips a bit when using the wired feature versus wireless, but a great feature to have nonetheless. The noise cancellation works really well. It does a very good job of removing background noise while isolating sound from specific sources, like other people talking to you. The headphones now use USB-C for connection and charging. A short USB-C to USB-A wire is included, which is great. However, it doesn't come with its own charger. I understand that this can help keep the cost of the package down, and that this is becoming more commonplace, but it's annoying. I may have a charger capable of restoring its power in a decent timeframe, but I may only have one of them which is being used by my phone at the time when I need to charge the headphones. It's not a dealbreaker, but inconvenient. Overall, this is a great buy.

Rocking Speaker Worthy of the Brand
on November 22, 2019

Being a guitar player, I was a little bit wary of a Bluetooth speaker from a guitar amp manufacturer. I thought they were just trying to bank in on their reputation from amps. I was pleasantly proven wrong. Marshall really went out of the way to make this speaker an experience unto its own. Unboxing reveals a UK power cord along with a US one (I appreciated the little nod to its roots). The box is a bit weighty, and definitely sturdy. I was somewhat expecting a handle on the top, just like the amps. Powering on the speaker plays a guitar riff to let you know you're ready to go, as it does when you power the speaker down. It's nice to see they've also included an AUX port along with Bluetooth connection. It's nice to know that I won't have to rely solely on compressed audio of Bluetooth to enjoy the sound. I, personally, didn't get a chance to test the AUX port yet, before my review, but I think it's worth mention its presence all the same. One thing to note, it didn't really come with instructions. There are two flyers in the box, but I think you get more information from the print on the side of the box than you do the flyers. I think this speaker is intuitive enough that you don't really need a whole set of instructions. I knew enough to hold down the button next to the Bluetooth indicator to get connected. The process was fairly quick and painless. I only needed to tweak the bass and treble slightly and the sound was fantastic. Using the Marshall Bluetooth app on my phone provided EQ options, which definitely helped to add dimension, but I don't think you'd be missing out on that much if you didn't feel the need to add yet another app to your phone. Warning: if you do, the initial firmware update it prompts you to install takes FOREVER.

Mostly Better Than My TV Speakers
on August 28, 2019
Posted by: blackdaz
from Las Vegas, NV
We've had our TV for two years and didn't think it necessary to purchase any external speakers, but we've been plagued by severe volume dips during some of the shows and movies that we've watched so we finally decided that a soundbar would help. This is where our LG SL4Y came in. I have another soundbar setup in another room, so I've had experience with setting one up before. Compared to the other one, setup for this model was almost laughably easy. I had to recheck everything three times just to make sure that I hadn’t missed a step. I was pleasantly surprised that it really was so easy. One thing to note is that this soundbar only utilizes an optical input. It does make things simple, but if you happen to have a TV that doesn’t have an optical out, you’ll need to look at other models. The only other input on the soundbar is a USB port for those that would like to plug in a thumb drive to play music. Considering the fact that this unit accepts Bluetooth connections, I don’t see this as something that will be of use to me, especially considering how easy it is to connect a device to this unit via Bluetooth. The soundbar has 4 sound profiles: Standard, Bass, ASC, and Cinema. Standard is probably where you want to start for tweaking the EQ to your exact preferences because it seems that the its default is really flat. The Bass profile boosts the low end (as anyone would likely expect) but in a way that makes basically everything sound muddy. We mainly use either the ASC or Cinema modes. We’ve found ourselves swapping between these two depending on what we are watching. For the most part, it seems that ASC narrows the sound while Cinema broadens things. Unfortunately, we’re still experiencing times when movie dialogue drops out, only to have the movie’s score explode during the next scene. There are times when I feel that the TV speakers may have done a better job, but for the most part, I welcome how this soundbar has enhanced our viewing experience.

Great features for the Price
I got this printer to replace an old Epson NX510. Aside from the fact that the NX510 inexplicably stopped finding any Wifi networks, it ran out of ink ages ago and I didn't want to buy replacement cartridges when we don't print all too often. When I heard about the EcoTank series, I thought I'd give it a try. I ended up with the entry level model because I couldn't see any added value (for my needs) in the higher models' offerings. I primary need my all-in-one for scanning and printing second (which is why the long lasting ink tanks were very attractive to me). So far, it hasn't disappointed. Initial setup was fairly easy. I was able to connect to my Wifi network without much hassle and filling the ink tanks was fairly simple. Anyone expecting this to be completely clean will be mistaken. While it's not difficult taking the filler bottles off of the printer, I did find several ink drops on the desk and printer. Nothing a wet paper towel couldn't handle while the ink was still wet. The scanning software has been updated over the offering for the NX510. I like the options and user interface, but I don't like what they've done to change the PDF scan handling. You do have the option to scan several pages and manage them in one thumbnail window as each page is scanned in. However, the interface no longer provides the option to preview scans starting from the second page (unless I haven't figured this out yet). Older software provided this feature, which was nice to ensure that each page scanned after the first was centered on the glass correctly, or not dog-eared. The option to de-skew the results probably helps with improperly placed pages on the glass, but it'd still be nice to see if I need to apply (or remove) any of the filters/options depending on the page. Also, if you want to create a PDF that has different scan types (in my case, I wanted a PDF with grey-scale for pages that only contained text, and color for pages that contained pictures), you'll need to create separate PDF files for each type and combine them using third party software. Scanning is much quieter in this model, and I've seen an option for "quiet" scanning, which I haven't used yet; I feel that scanning is quiet enough for me as it is. I get the feeling that the "quiet" mode would make the scan process much longer. I like the options provided during the printing portion of setup. It basically asks what your preference for printing granularity is to ensure that you don't get print-outs with lines in solid color areas. Color printing is fairly quick for the entry-level model as well. Overall, I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking to get rid of their old printer cartridge printer to save ink.

Subtle Changes But Improved Performance
on May 29, 2019
Posted by: blackdaz
from Las Vegas
We got this model as an upgrade to the previous Ninja model that brewed single serve beverages (basically this model but without the capacity to brew a carafe's worth of coffee). The drip stop on the model we replaced was just a stick lever that was moved from side to side to stop the flow of liquid. However, because of how thin it was, it broke off. This new model changes the drip stop to ensure this doesn't happen by making the switch much thicker ans sturdier. Similar to the previous edition, the machine provides the option of brewing single mugs to travel size mugs that hold multi-servings. One difference between this model and the previous is that the 8 oz "Cafe Forte" option is gone. I don't think this poses as a big an issue to most, since the brewing performance in this model has improved. In the prior edition, it seemed that liquid barely dripped through the filter and I found that many servings brewed weakly, even in the "Rich" brew setting. However, I've found that this edition really does a good job of extracting as much out of the grounds as possible. The strength of each brewed cup has definitely gotten stronger and I find that I no longer need to brew multiple cups per day like I did before. One thing to note, when brewing my preferred "Rich" brew cups, unless you drink your coffee quickly, I tend to find that the cup gets a bit sludgy towards the bottom. The introduction of the full carafe brewing option is welcome and surprisingly fast. It does take a while to get the water up to temp, but I wouldn't say much longer that the normal cups, which I found impressive. Once the water is up to temp, it's almost a steady flow of coffee from then on and a full carafe is ready in short time. We used to have a separate 4 cup machine to use when we had company over to brew more than a cup at a time. Now, we only have to rely on this new model for all of our needs. I would definitely recommend this model to anyone.

Solid Drive with Future Proofed Port
on November 30, 2018

I got this drive to back up a Seagate 4 TB external HDD. I haven't had the best luck with WD externals in the past (3 others I purchased all crashed within days of purchase), but I thought I'd give this one a shot. I haven't speed tested it or anything, but for my purposes, it works really well. It transferred about 3.5 TB of content from the original Seagate USB 3.0 external HDD to the WD in about 8-12 hours (I was away from the system when it completed download, so I can't say when it completed for sure). Aside from transfer speeds, I like that the included cable comes with a USB type-B adapter. What's more, the adapter has two notches that line up to two grooves on the cable, this helps to lock the adapter into place so it doesn't fall off when you disconnect the cable from the computer. It's a small touch, but one that I appreciate a lot. Overall, great HDD!

Enjoy your music while training with these Under Armour wireless headphones. These audio devices are sweat proof and have TwistLock technology to keep the earpieces in place through any workout. Designed by JBL, these Under Armour wireless headphones meet the highest audio standards and provide up to 8 hours of battery life to last many workouts.

Do they have a microphone and can the microphone be worn in either ear

They do have a microphone for answering calls. However, the buds are not interchangeable, as the twist-lock technology forces you to put the appropriately labeled bud into the correct ear. However, I wouldn't think of this as an issue, as the twist-lock really helps hold the earbuds in place, especially during activity.
