Easy to Install but reduces flow rate
on September 24, 2020
Posted by: Clshipp91
from Fort Worth, tx
I’ve never had an under sink water filter before, mostly because I thought the only ones that existed were outrageously expensive and required extra faucets and tons of upkeep. It turns out I was very wrong and this is where this Filtrete filter comes in.
What’s in the box:
You get the filter, two tubes to connect to your cold water line and the faucet line, a few adapters to fit to 3/8 inch standard under sink pipe, and a cool little sticker that tells you when it’s time to replace the filter.
Install:
It really couldn’t be easier. The filter screws to the side of your cabinet, the tubes use a couple adapters to connect each end of the filter tubing to the sink pipe. The other side of each tube connects to the filter using a push to seal, meaning you just push the pipe in the hole and it self seals.
I didn’t have any problems at all hooking things up not did I run into any leaks.
Use:
My biggest problem with this filter is the decreased flow rate caused by using it. It’s definitely a noticeable difference switching between the filtered cold water and unfiltered hot water. It’s somewhat understandable given this thing filters almost everything out of your water, but if you have poor water pressure to start with this could pose some serious problems.
Summary:
I think this is a great product to add to get your sink tap water crystal clear and lead free. The only drawback being the slight drop in flow rate using the filter.

Great Inexpensive Coffee Maker
on September 20, 2020
Posted by: Clshipp91
from Fort Worth, tx
Who doesn’t love a nice hot coffee in the morning, I know I do and this Mr. Coffee delivers with a consistent brew every day.
There are plenty of coffee markers out there that do fancy tricks and charge lots of money for it. But, if your not interested in any of that and just want a coffee maker that will make 12 cups of great coffee, this will do the trick.
The overall build is what would be expected at this price range. It’s made almost entirely of plastic and does not have a premium feel, but it still looks pretty sleek sitting on the counter. The stainless steel finish matches pretty well with my appliances. It doesn’t come with a permanent filter, but does come with a filter to give you a cleaner brew.
Using the coffee maker is dead simple, there is a button to brew and delay brew. Delay brew being you brew at a time you specify. There’s a button to select strength and then a few buttons to set the time and delay brew time. It’s super easy to use, no one will get confused with menus or knobs here.
It brews pretty quickly, I brew 12 cups every morning and it gets it done in no time. The warmer keeps the pot really hot for a couple hours before it shuts off, but not too hot so it doesn’t get a burnt taste.
Clean up is a breeze. The filter cup comes out easy and you just dump it and start over.
Overall, if you’ve used a standard coffee maker, you’ll be right at home here, it’s nothing fancy, but it works!

True Hi-Fi Wireless Earbuds
on September 7, 2020
Posted by: Clshipp91

Coming from Sennheiser you know the focus is going to be on sound quality above all else on these earbuds and Sennheiser delivered.
Above all else sound quality is the real differentiating factor with these headphones. Music sounds crystal clear, sharp, and precise. The bass is not overpowering and not muddled at all. I’ve tried many truly wireless earbuds and these by far sound the best.
The fit is great as well. They fit a good ways down the ear canal, but don’t hurt. They’re extremely light, so much so you can forget they are there. Again, some of the best fitting wireless headphones I’ve used. They fit really snug as well, i never have a feeling like they are going to fall out, could very well be used for workouts.
The touch controls work really well, you can activate Siri, play/pause, fast forward, skip back, adjust volume, all with a series of taps that aren’t very hard to remember. I really liked how Sennheiser did the controls here.
Battery life is also superb. 7 hours per charge with even more in the case. I’ve never had problems running these things dead.
The app works pretty well. Not much to do other than select the device you want to connect the headphones to, adjust eq, or edit the earbud controls. All pretty easy to use, but nothing groundbreaking here.
At this price point you know there had to be some compromises with how good these things sound. These earbuds don’t have water resistance, wireless charging, or noise cancellation. If any of those are deal breakers then these might not work for you, but if you are looking for a hi quality sounding device, these are a great choice.

Stellar SSD
on August 18, 2020
Posted by: Clshipp91
from Fort Worth, tx
I had no idea how much of an upgrade a good SSD can be compared to a HDD. Though the process to switch was less than optimal, I'd say this Samsung SSD has drastically improved boot times and read write speeds on my machine. Prior to install I was constantly having slowdown issues on my laptop and task manager showing my disk was always maxed out. Since installing this new SSD, I haven't had any read write issues.
The Samsung data migration tools are my only problems with this SSD. I never could get the software to correctly clone my old HDD to the new SSD, even though it was Samsung software and a Samsung SSD. But, once I switched over to a free disk cloning tool from the internet, I had no problems creating a cloned drive.
After that, it really is just plug and play to update to this new drive. You crack open your desktop or laptop and plug the SSD in. You'll immediately notice improvements in boot time from the first time you boot with the new drive.
Samsung also includes some optimization software that works with this drive to help peak out performance. It's fairly easy to install and though I'm not sure how much it really helps, its a nice little addition for the power user looking to really get the most out of their new SSD.
Overall, this is a reasonably priced high quality SSD. You'll definitely be happy with the improvement if you're upgrading from an older HDD. IF starting from scratch, I think this is a great option to get you started on a new machine.

Great Camera, Great App, No So Great Smarts
on July 15, 2020
Posted by: Clshipp91
from Fort Worth, tx
I really liked this camera albeit a few very big flaws. I've owned several smart and semi smart camera's and the Ecobee Smart Camera ranks as one of my favorites despite some flaws in the smart features and Ecobee Haven, both of which I feel like could be fixed in updates to the software.
Setup is a breeze. The Ecobee app makes pairing the camera to your network really simple. Plug in the camera, and attach the metal base to the bottom or back of the camera to set on a table or hang on a wall and follow the in app prompts to get things set up. You also have an option to set up Homekit here as well. I don't use homekit for this camera, because I think it actually has less features in Homekit than through the native app.
The build quality is great, it's sturdy, the microphone and speaker are both very clear. Though I wouldn't expect this to double as a great option for listening to music, it's not that good. But, as far as being able to use Alexa to repsond to questions or use the two way talk function I'd say it really does the job well.
Speaking of two way talk, it works great, some of he best quality I've seen on a smart camera, both individuals voices are crystal clear and come through with considerable volume. It works great for an intercom.
The video quality is where this camera really shines. The images in both night and day are very clear and easy to see. The camera has a 180 degree field of view, which is like nothing I've seen before. You really do have the ability to see everything going on in the room.
The Ecobee app makes controlling the camera a breeze, the pan and tilt options are easy, using the intercom function is super simple. There's nothing cover complicated with this app at all.
Now for my issues with the camera. The first is the smart features built into the camera. The camera has the ability to focus on people and follow them around the room to keep them the focus of the image. This is really cool when it works, but awful when it doesn't work. For example, while I was away and had the home monitoring active, the camera thought a sombrero on my couch was a person and proceeded to notify me of that person for the next 4 hours while I was away. I've also had several instances where motion or a person was detected, but the resulting alert and image showed an empty room. I think the motion detection could use some work.
My next complaint is Ecobee Haven, the $5 a month home monitoring service. With the service you unlock the options to add entry and motion sensors to really build out a security system and monitor your home. Unfortunately, To get any real use from a system like thisyou have to subscribe to the service, because without it, you don't get alerts, nor do you get access to video history. The video history isn't surprising really, but lack of notifications without a subscription for a camera of this price is slightly ridiculous. Not to mention the actual notifications for intrusions from Ecobee Haven are not great themselves. Rather than telling you in the notification where the intrusion was detected, you are prompted to open the app and then view the details in app. In my opinion, notifications should be immediately useful, in this case, they are not. Also, there is no option to automatically sound the alarm in the case of an intrusion when the system is armed, relying solely on you seeing the notification to trigger the alarm. Now there are some cool features with Haven, the biggest being autopilot, which auto arms and disarms the security system based on the location of your phone or anyone on your Ecobee account.
Lastly, I don't like the lack of third party integration, currently only Homekit is supported. This really limits the cameras functionality in existing smart homes.
Overall, I think the camera is great and if I wasn't required to get a monthly fee, I'd exand my ecobee setup with motion sensors, ecobee Switch + (for motion detection and siren), theromstat (motion and siren). But, if none of that bothers you I think the camera is a great option if you don't think you'll want to go without the Haven service.

Useless without Ecobee Haven
on July 15, 2020
Posted by: Clshipp91
from Fort Worth, tx
Right off the bat, if you don’t want to spend $5 a month for entry detection, don’t get these entry sensors. You’ll be sorely disappointed with their function without the Ecobee Haven service.
The Ecobee entry sensors are exactly what they say they are, sensors that monitor when someone opens or shuts a door or window as well as motion monitoring if placed on a door (doesn’t work on windows).
Setup is straight forward, pull a tab on the device, scan a QR code and stick to your door or windows. The magnet has a pretty good range, I don’t think you’ll run into any problems being able to position the sensor and magnet in a way that works. There is even a little green light on the sensor to help you make sure the magnet is detected when you decide where to stick them. I’m a fan of this setup process, Definitely easier than other entry sensors I’ve used.
Using the sensors is another story entirely. First off, without Ecobee Haven, ecobee’s home monitoring the only thing you can do with these, is view in the app whether your door is open or not. To be able to get entry alerts or motion alerts, you have to subscribe to Ecobee Haven. I think there are a lot of good features on the Haven service that make it worthwhile; auto arm/disarm, easy app, etc, but for $80 entry sensors to not have a simple push notification alert out of the box is a reason not to get these.
If you are up for buying the month service, then you’ll probably like these sensors. They work well for entry sensors. They’ve never dropped connection, nor have they given a false entry detection. The motion detection is pretty sensitive. I have two big dogs and it has picked them up a few times.
The auto arm/disarm function (requires subscription) works fairly well too, it works based on your phones location and for the most pet it’ll arm within a few minutes of leaving home and disarm right before you walk through the door. So far I’ve only had one time when it didn’t disarm.
The notifications on the phone could be improved too. Rather than pushing a notification saying which door was opened, you just get a notification saying you have an alert and to open the app.
I also don’t like that you can’t set the system to automatically signal an alarm on your ecobee camera, switch + or thermostat. Rather you have to manually sound the alarm when you get the notification. Not a great option if you miss the alarm.
There also isn’t a professional monitoring option available if you’re looking for that.
Overall, I’m not super impressed with these entry sensors, but if you like the ecobee smart camera, thermostat, and aren’t bothered by the monthly fee, these work as part of a fairly google security system that’ll you’ll probably be happy with.

Works exactly as expected
on July 14, 2020
Posted by: Clshipp91

Well made, good looking, and easy to use, the ecobee smart sensors are a set it up and forget about it device that does exactly what you would expect, monitor motion in a room and if you have an ecobee thermostat, monitor temperature.
I’ve been using these two sensors in conjunction with my ecobee smart camera and the ecobee haven service for about a week now and haven’t had any problems with the sensors, but haven’t been blown away either.
Setup is fairly simple. You pull a tab on the device, scan a QR code on the back of the device and the ecobee app will set the device up automatically to your ecobee thermostat or ecobee smart camera.
Installing the sensor in a room is as simple as it gets, either use the metal base that just pops on via magnets or use the wall mount with accompanying screw. I chose the metal base and liked the way it fit on the shelf, definitely a design that blends in easy.
I connected my sensors to the ecobee smart camera to work as motion detects for the security system and they did what they say they do. It picked up motion in the room when the system was armed and did a good job ignoring my two large dogs roaming the house. If you’re ok with paying for the ecobee Haven service ($5 a month) and have the ecobee camera, these sensors are good for monitoring motion in your home.
I do have a few complaints about these sensors. The first being lack of use within the app. I expected to be able to view temperature or humidity readings on the sensors in the rooms via the ecobee app, but as far as I can tell that isn’t possible with my setup.
Next is the lack of compatibility. Unless you have an ecobee thermostat or ecobee camera, don’t expect to get any use out of these. There is no compatibility with other systems like SmartThings or HomeKit.
My third complaint was the functionality without the Haven service. Unless you are will to pay the $5 a month there is no way to get even push notifications when motion is detected. Which leads to my next problem with this device, the quality of notifications.
In my opinions push notifications should be immediately useful. That is not the case with Haven intrusion notifications. Rather that the notifications telling you exactly where the motion was detected, the notification just tells you to open the app to see what exactly happened. In my opinion this isn’t a great setup.
Overall, if you already have the ecobee smart camera or thermostat and are just looking for the easiest solution to build out your security system or thermostat, you’ll want to go with these. If you are a DYIer, you’re better off looking elsewhere.

Your personal running coach
on May 10, 2020

I’ve never thought that fitness trackers were all that useful. You get a ton of data but, other than to say, I’ve ran 20 miles this week, I didn’t see a great use in the information provided. That is 100% different with Nurvv. This tracker is like nothing I’ve seen before. The data collected provides some of the most useful insight about running form, technique and ability that I’ve ever seen. I’m very impressed with how well the trackers work and how helpful the app is in making me a better runner and improving my health.
From the start, wearing the nurvv insoles is way more comfortable than I though. I couldn’t really tell that I had them on. I thought the battery hanging off my shoe would be annoying but, I really didn’t notice it. They were easy to slide in the shoe and have some adhesive to keep them in place. I’m not sure how great they would stay in place but, the tacky bottom keeps them pretty well in place. The battery snaps on and off so you don’t have to take them out of your shoe everytime you need to recharge and let’s you still wear the shoe while they are charging.
Using the tracker is pretty easy, you can either start a run in the app or click the button on the battery pack to start a run if you don’t want to carry your phone. Either way, the Nurvv will start tracking all kinds of data about your run. How your foot strikes on each stride, how quick your cadence is, and uses all the data to determine how good your technique is, how healthy you are running and let’s you view all the data in app. But, the app doesn’t just show you the info, it provides coaching advise to improve your technique, analyzing you running health and give you workouts to do all of this.
I really liked the live workouts that coached you through improving the run I was on and the graphs that showed me how to change my technique to improve health and run faster.
If you’re a big runner and want something to give you a little extra coaching and really nail down technique, these insoles are really something that might be helpful.

Smart Speaker with Style
on April 3, 2020
Posted by: Clshipp91

Marshall continues to do it right with their line of speakers. If there is one reason to buy this one over the ton of other speakers out there, it’s the style. The iconic Marshall style looks great sitting on a shelf. The fabric speaker cover and brass buttons scream quality. I absolutely love the build quality on this and like the departure from the modern styled cylinder used by many other companies.
The setup of this speaker is incredibly easy. If you’ve set up any other Alexa enabled speaker, you will be right at home here. Download the Marshall app and the step by step instructions get you going.
The speaker features all of the typical Alexa music services as well as Bluetooth to play anything you want on your phone. Being. Able to play music via WiFi without being connected to your phone is a serious game changer if you’ve never used it.
Alexa has come a long way but, I still think some of the smart features lag behind its competitors. Some of the quirks and phrase memorization makes Alexa feel way less nature than other smart assistants.
The sound quality on this speaker is amazing! As with any Marshall speaker the sound is incredible. The bass is booming for a speaker this size and the mids and highs are crystal clear. The adjustable treble and bass make this speaker fine tunable for any room or space.
This speaker also features multi room audio so you can play music all throughout your house.
Overall this is a great smart speaker if you are looking to add one to your home or start a multi room setup. You can’t go wrong here.

Easy and painless taxes

This really is a great option for filing your federal and state income taxes. I’ve used several tax preparation softwares and this might be my favorite yet, especially for the price.
If you haven’t used this software before, loading your prior year file into the software is incredibly easy and it populated all of the general information for you from your previous return. This made switching software so painless.
The guided steps were just as good if not better than any of the other software I’ve used. The option to load PDFs of my W2 information made filling everything out way easier.
The software walks you through every common deduction and credit to get you a good return.
There’s also an option to talk with a tax specialist if you need that too.
Overall, this is a great option to quickly and easily do your taxes.

It sure can. It pops off pretty easy to wipe down.

how do i use a flashdrive

Just plug it into the USB port, then go to "file explorer". In the left hand column of icons you should see your flashdrive. It will be near the "c:" drive on the list. Just drag and drop files to that icon to add things to the flash drive.
