Keep your home dust-free with this Bissell AirRAM cordless vacuum. Its high-performance F.U.E.L. cell provides up to 30 minutes of run time, while the advanced compression technology lets it store as much dirt as typical bagless vacuums. This Bissell AirRAM cordless vacuum has a low profile for easy maneuvering around furniture.

Good, but $50 less would make it Excellent

The idea of a cordless, bagless, tankless vacuum cleaner is great and this one delivers in all respects. (Technically, there's a canister that needs emptying but it's much smaller and much less cumbersome than the ones in larger, corded vacuums.)
I see this vacuum as filling the need of a quick, lite clean up job, say in preparation for company coming over or when you don't want to have to pull out the big vacuum for a small job. It's also great to keep as a "spare" at the other end of a larger house or to keep upstairs in a multi-story house.
Assembly out of the box was very simple with clear instructions. Charging is likewise straightforward. The battery is quoted as 30 minute runtime on a full charge. I haven't had the opportunity to try that out to the fullest extent, but I've used the vacuum on and off over multiple days without having to recharge after the initial, out of the box charge up.
Emptying/cleaning the canister is easy and straightforward and much less messy/dusty than the bigger vacuums.
The two cons I see are that (1) you have to pull the roller out for shag carpets/rugs and (2) the price. Addressing the first con, I truly yearn for the day when someone makes a no maintenance vacuum that will suit all floor types, carpet/rug thickness, etc. And, as for the price, I believe if this was priced at $50 less, it would be a no brainer as a second, spare vacuum to keep around.

Great noise canceling and comfort
on September 29, 2016

I've only had one other pair of NC headphones in my life (by a well known company) and I didn't use those that much, so this is really my first *real* experience with NC headphones. All I can say is wow. These Sony NC headphones deliver not only exceptional NC, but also sound quality and comfort. I played around the different settings for allowing ambient noise to come through and then blocking it again and it's truly amazing what they have accomplished. The 20 hour battery life sounds fantastic, though I haven't had the opportunity to put it to the test yet nor have I had a chance to wear these on an airplane, but based on my experiments at home, I'm sure they will deliver in the air as well. The touch controls on the right ear cup are also a great idea.
In summary, I love these headphones. I don't know how they will compare to their biggest competitor but, frankly, I don't care. I'm sticking with the Sony.

Unclear instructions and poor mopping power
on September 19, 2016
Posted by: pinkoos
This combo unit allows you to sweep (ie, vacuum) and mop simultaneously. You can use it on hard surfaces (tile, stone, wood) and area rugs, though it's unclear how thick your rugs can be. It comes with a cleaning fluid for hard surfaces, a cleaning fluid for area rugs and three rollers (two for hard surfaces and one for area rugs I believe).
You fill up a tank on the back of the vacuum/mop with water and cleaning fluid (to preset levels depending on the area of surface to clean). You then prime the pump for 10 seconds and go.
What I noticed is that although the vacuum suction is adequate, the scrubbing power of the rollers (which are supposed to take the place of mopping) is not so good. Thus, it's difficult to really get your floors cleaned to the same extent as you can when you sweep and mop.
Additionally, I couldn't find anything in the instructions about how often you have to pump fluid from the back reservoir down into the rollers and onto the floor while cleaning. This also makes it difficult to know how much to use and if you're using too little or too much (ie, wasting some cleaning fluid).
Cleanup involves taking the dirty water tank off and apart, pulling the roller out and pulling the reservoir out. You then wash everything and let everything dry for 24 hours.
In summary, this does only an adequate job. And, to me, the cons outweigh the pros.

Weak mopping action and unclear instructions
on September 18, 2016
Posted by: pinkoos
Not very impressed with this product. Is it a vacuum? Is it a mop? Is it for carpets? Is it for hard floors? Well, the instructions say hard floors and area rugs, but what does that mean? Hard floors I understand, but area rugs? Some area rugs are thin and flat, some are shaggier than the plushest of plush carpets. So, is it okay to use it on those? Who knows because Bissell doesn't tell you.
I gave the Crosswave a shot but found that its mopping power is weak. It just doesn't really scrub the floor like the way a mop can/does. Also, again, Bissell doesn't tell you how often you need to "pull the trigger" to eject more cleaning solution down into the roller and, hence, the floor. I have a feeling that they keep you in the dark so that you will use up the solution and buy more and more and more. No thanks.
Lastly, clean up is a pain. Cleaning the dirty water tank is disgusting to say the least - imagine everything you vacuum up from the floor (hair, food, etc.), mix it with water and you get the picture. Again, no thanks.
I think we'll stick to sweeping and mopping the old fashioned way.

A small light around the lightning port = 5 stars
on August 28, 2016
Posted by: pinkoos
This is a great dock. If Best Buy would allow half star ratings, I would give it 4.5 stars instead of 4. I think the only thing that would make this a 5 star dock is if there was a little LED light around the lightning port. This would allow easy phone plugging in the dark. And, the light wouldn't be a bother b/c once you plug the phone in, either the light is covered by the phone or Belkin could make it so the light turns off.
At first, I thought the design would prevent charging the Apple Watch in nightstand mode but, as you can see from my pictures, this is not true. You can charge the Watch in either orientation.
Another nice feature is the adjustable lightning port, to take into account varying sizes and shapes of cases you may have on your iPhone. You turn a dial on the back of the dock to either raise or lower the lightning connector which, in turns, adjusts the positioning so you can plug the iPhone in even if there is a case on it.

Average Chromebook for an average price
on July 30, 2016
Posted by: pinkoos
This is our family's first Chromebook. I don't have a google account, but my kids have school-created accounts. We went ahead and created a "dummy" Google account for them to use on this Chromebook because we didn't want to use their school accounts.
Anyway, for basic, minimal needs, this Chromebook will work fine. We were able to go through login, setup, etc. without a problem and were up and running in no time. I don't want to rehash what others have said here already, that the performance is mediocre, the screen is mediocre, the bezel is large, the trackpad is flaky, etc. Those are all true and valid points.
I didn't read through all of the reviews here, but there is definitely one thing I want to mention - the power cord plugs into the Chromebook very loosely. I don't know if this is a quality control issue just with our unit or a design flaw, but you don't get the satisfying "click" when you plug the power cord into the left side of the Chromebook. It just loosely dangles and seems to lose connection with any slight nudging of the Chromebook. A minor annoyance, but an annoyance nonetheless.
I don't know much about the Chromebook space so it's difficult for me to recommend this product over another at a similar price point. I suggest you do your research, read the reviews and play around with the display models at the store before making your decision.

1GB RAM, poor screen and speaker placement
on May 21, 2016
Posted by: pinkoos
I'm more of an Apple user but have dabbled in and out of Android products for years. This tablet is a disappoint, even when not comparing it to an iPad.
I'm not sure why Acer crippled it with 1GB of RAM - I'm constantly getting system low memory warnings which hampers the overall experience of using this Android tablet. Just like Apple shouldn't be selling iPhones or iPad with only 16GB of storage, Android devices should not be allowed to have less than 2GB of RAM.
The screen is also a disappointment. It appears washed out, blurry (yes, I realize I'm not going to get a Retina-class screen at this price point) and is "sticky." That's kind of hard to describe, but imagine swiping down the screen of an iPad and how buttery smooth it is. Now, imagine swiping down the screen of this Acer and having your finger "get stuck" or kind of bounce along the screen akin to skipping a stone across a pond.
It seems that Acer designed this tablet to be used in landscape mode as evidenced by the logo and camera placement. That is fine except for the fact that Acer placed the speakers in the exact spot that you would have your hands when holding this tablet in said landscape mode. That makes for a suboptimal, muffled audio experience.
Other than that, this tablet is just generally slow. Switching from one app to another requires a level of patience I no longer have at my age.
Lastly, I'm not sure why every manufacturer has to include their proprietary bloatware. Stock Android is very nice and pretty much does everything that the bloatware tries to accomplish and, usually, better.
In conclusion, I think everything I've described is to be expected at this price point. I realize this is not the flagship Android tablet. However, if one can afford it, I would bump up to a tablet with better specs overall or try a different operating system.

So I sold my Apple Watch and got a Pebble Instead
on November 21, 2015
Posted by: pinkoos
from Houston, TX
I had the Apple Watch since launch and actually liked it a lot, but became dismayed as it did not live up to its full potential, even as a 1.0 product.
I really only wanted it for notifications, music control and fitness, so I thought the apps and complications were above and beyond my intended uses.
There are several problems I can note, including:
1. the "not always on" nature of the watchface
2. the incredible slowness of the apps, even under watchOS 2.0, which was supposed to speed things up considerably
3. the waste of the "friends" button on the side (waste meaning that the button could have been used as a "custom" button that the user is allowed to configure)
4. the overall complexity of the watch and user experience
I was hoping that the watch could make my life less complicated, but I believe it actually made it more complicated. The iPhone Watch app was almost too granular in terms of all the things that you can tweak and control, including loading of apps, which notifications you wanted, etc. I really just wanted something simple that sent notifications to the watch, allowed simple music control and some fitness tracking.
The Apple Watch wasn't good for my music control. I sit at a microscope all day and listen to music or podcasts while working. In order to play/pause the audio coming from my iPhone, I had to:
1. wake up the watch (either twist wrist or tap on the screen)
2. go to the music app or the music glance - the app would require a press of the digital crown, a tap of the music app and then another tap to play/pause while the glance would require a swipe up, a swipe left or right (if my music glance wasn't the last glance used) and then another tap for play/pause
This was just too cumbersome a user experience for me. I wish the side "friends" button could have been custom configured as a play/pause button. That would have been great.
The notifications worked great and being able to act on them (ie, reply to a text or email) was nice, but also tended to be slow. It was almost faster/easier to see the notification on the watch, but act on it via the iPhone.
Fitness tracking was hit or miss. I recently had some major issues with iOS 9.1 and so had to downgrade to 9.0.2 (before Apple stopped signing it) and, in the process, lost all previously accumulated Activity data and also lost any sync with my Apple Watch. I tried many different trouble shooting steps including unpairing and repairing from backup, unpairing and repairing as new, but it didn't fix the problem. I also realized that the whole Bluetooth connection is dog slow. Unpairing took forever, repairing took forever and any watch software updates basically had to run overnight b/c the bluetooth connection was so super slow.
Anyway, all of these things made me realize that the watch was not simplying my life or making it easier but rather making my life more stressful and complicated.
So, I decided to sell it and buy a Pebble. I got the Pebble Time Round about a week or so ago and am absolutely loving it for all the opposite reasons that I grew to dislike the Apple Watch:
1. Always on time
2. Although there are a lot of apps for the Pebble Time, many developers haven't ported their apps to the Time Round. And, that is actually a good thing, b/c I don't really want this watch for apps. I want it for the reasons stated above
3. The physical buttons allow me to control my music with one or two physical button presses at most - there's no touchscreen, so you have to push buttons to control; but, b/c there is no touchscreen, you can do this without even having to look at the watch
4. There's no complexity b/c there's not much "to do" on the watch. I receive notifications, but I can't act on them and that's fine. Like I mentioned above, I ended up acting on notifications directly on my iPhone b/c the watch was too slow.
Anyway, I just thought I'd share in case anybody was looking for real world experience from an Apple Watch user who switched to Pebble.

Try again Misfit

Total piece of junk. Unclear how this got past Misfit's quality control department (if they have one) and released into the wild. Where do I start? I gifted these to my two boys (ages 10 and 8) for Christmas. They were excited to have a fitness tracker and it actually motivated them to compete against each other daily to see who could reach their goal first. However, as others have mentioned, the device doesn't "clip" into the band with any kind of acknowledgment that allows one to feel confident that it won't fall out. And fall out they do. Not only that, my younger son's tracker has already started malfunctioning. This was after it was about a week old. Suffice it to say that both of these got returned right away. Try again Misfit.

Best iMac EVER
By My135
I had originally bought the 4K model since it was on sale but it just ran slow since it had the regular hard drive. I went home set it up and was eh ok with it. I then saw the 5K with fusion drive on sale for about $600 more... I basically packed the 4K model up and immediately returned it and got this one! This machine is so awesome! It is my first iMac purchase and I don't regret it at all! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS ONE!

Speed difference between 4K hdd and 5K Fusion?
February 26, 2016
Hi,
Just wondering if you'd comment on the speed difference between the 4K you initially bought and the 5K Fusion you replaced it with? The Fusion only has a 24GB SSD tied to the 1TB hard drive, so I'm wondering how the smallish SSD works in terms of speed. Thanks.
