Ensure maximum comfort from this Logitech mouse. The precise ergonomic design ensures you stay comfortable throughout the day even if you're a power user, and the additional side button lets you create a custom setup. Smooth gliding is assured from this Logitech mouse thanks to the low-resistance base that slips over any surface.

Excellent Wireless Mouse
on July 1, 2017

I stopped using wireless mice several years back due to short battery life, DPI tracking, and lag during gaming. I recently switched to the Logi MX Master 2S and I am pleasantly surprised that those past issues have been solved. I have always liked Logi (Logitech) mice and have used them for years in various wireless and wired forms. They are well built and very comfortable to use. The MX Master 2S is no exception. It feels solid, has a nice weight, and very comfortable in my hand. The wireless response is lag-free over the unifying receiver and the tracking is much improved due to the updated Darkfield sensor. The only thing I am uncertain of is the battery life long term. The rechargeable batteries are sealed in the unit so I'll keep my fingers crossed that they have a good life span. Overall solid mouse and, frankly, the only wireless mouse I would recommend for desktop use.

Toss this waterproof LifeProof AQUAPHONICS speaker in the pool and watch it float. The crisp audio doesn't stop for snow, dirt or ice, and this Bluetooth-enabled speaker can withstand a drop from 1.2m. The battery of this LifeProof AQUAPHONICS speaker keeps going for 15 hours, and it charges your phone while it's playing.

Better than I expected

The Lifeproof AQ11 is a very rugged bluetooth speaker with above average sound.
It is built like a tank and meets military spec for dust and shock protection and is good to 1.2m submerged. Granted, these are manufacturer claims and I haven't tested them, but based on the the general build quality they certainly seem reasonable. The speaker is pretty large and heavy so if you are looking for something compact you might want to audition one first. Because of its rather large size it has a nice full sound, but still can't quite hit those bottom octaves with any authority. It gets loud enough to entertain a pretty sizable group, but does exhibit some distortion in the upper third of its output. It's large size also allows for it to hold large devices in the dry box built into the bottom of the enclosure. My iPhone 6S Plus fits, but only if I take my bumper case off. Pretty awesome feature if using it at the pool, beach, or maybe on a boat. Battery life is a pretty solid 12-15 hours depending on how loud you keep it cranked. It can also act as a battery to charge your phone which can be handy in a pinch. Last, but not least, you can take phone calls with it and the mic seems to work pretty well given the few calls I have used it with. Everyone I asked said they could hear me fine so that's a plus. The only real caveat I have with the speaker discounting the size for some is the price. There are a number of other 'off brands' for markedly less that offer many of the same features with very similar audio quality. Overall, I am happy with the speaker's performance and the build quality does give me comfort that it will last.

My First Robot Vacuum
on June 14, 2017
Posted by: Balthazar2k4
from Longmont, CO, USA
As the title suggests, this is my first time with a robotic vacuum. I have been following Roomba vacs for years and on several occasions teetered on the decision to purchase one, but being a pet owner has always kept me away. I decided to give the Samsung R7070 a try as I have read a number of good things about it and figured now was the time.
After unboxing and getting the charging base/home placed, I set the vacuum up to charge. Initial charge is a bit long so don't expect to rush home and get vacuuming. Once charged I paired the device to my phone via the Samsung app. Let me just say the app is a reminder that Samsung excels in hardware, not software. While it works, it is pretty clunky and crashed twice on my iPhone during the setup process. Certainly not the assurance you might be looking for out of the gate with a rather expensive, automated vacuum. Once I overcame that obstacle, I let it rip in my finished basement. I would guesstimate my basement to be around 1300 sq. ft. and it is 90% tile flooring. The important thing to note before I go on is that I live in a house with six cats and two medium size dogs. So pet hair is real problem in my house and it generally requires daily vacuuming in order to keep the rogue hair to a minimum. That said, I let the vacuum rip in the stock, out of the box setting. First, I realized it's pretty loud and I suspect it should be. It is a vacuum after all. Second, I realized it is fairly tall. That meant it could not traverse underneath any of my sofas. Certainly bummed to see that. Once would hope that it being a 'bigger' robotic vacuum it might have a high capacity dust bin. This is where the issue that had plagued me from buying a robotic vacuum reared its ugly head. In just a matter of minutes it was whining the dust bin was full. Sure enough it was packed with animal hair. After emptying the easy to access bin, I let it rip. Long story short, it took three bin dumps to finish my basement. I think if I let it run multiple times a day it might be able to clean the floor in a single dust bin dump. The great thing about it is that it actually did a remarkably good job despite stopping for emptying multiple times. It did struggle making the transition to the carpet and slowed down considerably as well, but it did the job. It has great suction (even picks up cat littler) and does a great job at edges which is a big plus. Overall, I'm pleased with the primary function of the vacuum which is cleaning the floor.
It has definitely made me a believer that robots cleaning my floors are an outstanding addition to my life. Not having used any other robotic vacuums directly before makes me hesitant to call the Samsung a real winner. The fact that it is so tall and unable to go under much of my furniture is a sticking point. Especially in a house full of pets where animal hair builds up under furniture. Also, the associated app isn't particularly good. Aside from stability, it has fairly limited scheduling options which seems like an oversight to me. It would also be great if they could quiet it down further. It has a quiet mode, but that is still loud enough I don't want it running at night.

Let's be honest...

The MW60 are a bit of a quandary to me. They want to be high-end headphones, but for what market? For people who travel, audiophiles, or just the average music listener? Well, I can say with certainty that the MW60 do not really work completely for any one of those groups. For me they are closest to the Sennheiser Momentum 2.0s. Wireless headphones with good sound. That's just it, the MW60s sound good, but not great. The catch here is that the Momentum's have a longer battery life, active noise cancelling, are lighter, and considerably cheaper. There's the rub. The MW60 offers a nice balanced sound, but without active noise cancelling they miss the mark for travel. The cups sealed well and were comfortable for long use, but not well enough to drown out plane drone. They are also just heavy enough that the top strap starts to hurt my head after prolonged use. The overall fit & finish is top notch certainly, but there are better headphones in this price class for both audiophiles and travelers. This leaves the average music listener. Frankly, unless you have deep pockets and just want something less mainstream I can't imagine why you would buy these. As I stated previously, Sennheiser & Bose offer similar sound for less money and generally more features.

Questionable Value
on May 15, 2017

The Lifeproof Aquaphonics AQ10 sets out to be a rugged outdoor bluetooth speaker champion. Unfortunately, it falls short in the one category it truly needs to shine in: sound quality. At low volumes the speaker is fairly average. Reasonable bass and treble, but heavy in the mid section. Once you start cranking up the volume the bass quickly turns into distortion. While it can certainly fill a room the overall sound quality pales in comparison to bluetooth speakers half or even less of the asking price. So, what are you paying for? Well, it is built like a tank for one. Very rugged design and waterproof to 1.2m for up to 30 minutes. Oh, and it floats too. It is also MIL-spec shock and dust proof. It is a beast when it comes to the build quality which, I suppose, is what I would expect from Lifeproof. Battery life is pretty good at ~10-13 hrs depending on how loud you have it. The buttons light up which is nice if you take it camping at night. Only other drawback for me is the lack of USB charging. Having to carry around yet another transformer just doesn't cut it for me.
I think Lifeproof has a solid concept with the Aquaphonics line, but the mediocre sound quality is its achilles heel. Maybe next year's model will refine things.

Solid High-End Router
on May 8, 2017
Posted by: Balthazar2k4
from Longmont, CO, USA
Linksys has been on a roll the last couple of years with their router products. This year's EA9300 is no exception and appears to be a follow-up to last year's very successful EA9500 model. The differences between the two seem to point more towards the ethernet switch than most anything else. The EA9300 has a 4-port switch which seems a bit of a downgrade from the 8-port we saw in the EA9500. The reality, of course, is the EA9300 represents the more value minded, high end option. In order to come in at the lower price point some things needed to be given up and I can certainly excuse the drop of four ethernet ports to get there. The average or even high end consumer rarely needs more.
The wireless performance is top notch. Range is fantastic and even bests my Netgear Orbi mesh wireless system which was an honest surprise. Overall throughput is also in line with what I saw with the EA9500. I am on gigabit internet and my wireless up/down via SpeedTest was ~400/500 on my MacBook Pro so I can't complain. Ethernet performance was spot on at ~910/940. My gaming PC which is downstairs and on the opposite side of the house saw speeds of ~210/190 which was an improvement over the Orbi which on average delivers ~160/160. Like I said, overall throughput and range was significantly improved over the Orbi mesh system.
The GUI of the router itself is still one of the best in the business. Everything is easy to find and operates smoothly. Easily exceeds the 'classic' style that Netgear is still using.
My only real complaint with the EA9300 is the price. With sales often placing it's bigger brother, EA9500, within spitting distance it is hard to recommend the EA9300 over the EA9500. If the price gap is >$50 I would say go for the EA9300 unless, of course, you need the 8-port switch. Then all bets are off anyways.
Overall, great wireless router. It offers the range and throughput expected for a high-end router. It has a clean user interface and with the current firmware offers good stability. Recommended.

Great Hair Dryer
on May 5, 2017
Posted by: Balthazar2k4
from Longmont, CO, USA
Not much to say on this Panasonic Nanoe Hair Dryer as it achieves what it sets out to do. It produces great heat and focuses air well. It is also lightweight and well balanced. I was able to style my hair quickly and easily. Certainly faster than my existing dryer which is higher wattage. I have not tried the diffuser yet, but based on the nozzle I did try I think it will work well. My only real complaint is that it might get a tad too hot if you are having to straighten curly hair. I noticed when running it slowly through my hair with a brush that I could smell my hair starting to burn. Turned out fine, but you definitely want to be cognizant of it's heating capabilities.

Great Headset, Software Maybe Not
on March 27, 2017
Posted by: Balthazar2k4
Not a ton to be said about the Razer Kraken V2. Comfortable to wear for long periods. Great positional audio experience. Clear mic with audio passthrough to the headset. Great (if not exceptional) sound quality. It does precisely what I would expect from a USB headset.
The downsides are the somewhat short cable. Probably not an issue for most, but if your PC sits on the floor and you do not have available front USB ports it can be a no-go without an extension cable. Additionally, the Razer software is a big question mark. Once in the software it is well laid out and works without issue. It's the getting into the software that raised an eyebrow. When I went to create my Razer account their server was experiencing issues and I was unable to create an account. It then dawned on me that the headset was beholden to my ability to log in to Razer. Why? I should be able to use the hardware without contacting the mothership. After a day of twiddling my thumbs the server error went away and I was able to quickly setup a new account. Let's just hope the server doesn't go down again when I want to use the headset.
Overall, it is a great piece of hardware and one can even coordinate the RGB lights to your other Razer gear should you have any. A solid value in comparison to headsets from Corsair and Logitech and I would certainly recommend the Kraken V2 to others.

Impressive Suction & Great Battery Life
on March 19, 2017
Posted by: Balthazar2k4
The Dyson V8 Animal is a vey impressive cordless vacuum and another solid entry in the Dyson line. Most of my house is hard flooring so I wasn't able to gauge the quality of the supplied direct drive cleaner head on carpet. What I can say is that it cleaned my flooring in spectacular fashion. We have multiple dogs and cats and the rolling hairballs disappeared with minimal effort. It also sucked up multiple LEGO pieces with little fanfare. The nice thing about the canister system on the vacuum is that it is very easy to pick through the dirt to rescue small pieces that you didn't intend to suck up. My kids are thankful. The pivoting head also makes corners and tight spots easier to reach quickly. I did use the vacuum on several rugs throughout the house and they seem to do a great job of at least giving the appearance that they are cleaner. I didn't get down on my hands and knees and do a thorough inspection of the rug fibers, but it was certainly good enough for me. A word of caution about the suction on this model. It's intense. One of my lighter rugs got jammed in the head due to the suction, not the head itself. Battery life easily hit 40 minutes for me as I was doing mostly hard floors. Possibly with more carpeting the battery life may be shorter as it puts more strain on the cleaning head. The additional tools supplied are great for cleaning in deep crevices of a sofa for instance. As a whole I think the V8 Animal is wonderful, but the price does give me pause. I know Dyson is generally spendy and I do believe you get what you pay for in this case. If you want a solid cordless vacuum that will last then the Dyson is pretty much the standard.

Wonderful Wireless Cameras
on February 9, 2017
Posted by: Balthazar2k4
The Arlo Pro system is my first experience with wireless cameras. That being said, it has made a wonderful impression on me. Let’s start with the basics, the Arlo Pro I have been using came with the base and two cameras. The biggest struggle I had in setting it up was getting it out of the origami style packaging. Once all of the pieces were removed from the box it came down to plugging in the base to my router, installing the camera batteries, pairing each camera individually to the base (which is basically a one button operation), and installing the app on my phone (which is available in either Android or iOS flavor). Arlo requires you to set up an account and there are different tiers based on how many cameras you are using and how much video you want to store in the cloud. For me, I selected the free account which is good for up to five cameras and seven days worth of cloud storage. Once I followed the step-by-step in the app to pair the system to my account I was off and running. It was simple and elegant.
The star of the show are the new Arlo Pro cameras. They offer 720p video coupled with night-vision and full two-way voice communication. The video they produce is excellent, especially considering they worked without a hitch even on my busy home network. The night vision mode works very well and reminds me of a trail cam used for hunting. Excellent overall definition and smooth seamless video. The range of the camera is quite good. I have them placed more than 100 ft from the base, through a couple walls, and have had no issues. The microphone is quite sensitive and can pick up a near whisper from about ten feet. The cool thing is the ability to use the camera as an intercom and converse remotely through the app. Works pretty well, but it does act like a walkie talkie setup in that both parties can’t speak at the same time. The biggest surprise for me is the battery life which I figured would be a problem with the wireless setup is, in reality, outstanding. I have been using the cameras for a week and still have over 90% of the charge remaining. Lastly the cameras do come with wall mounts which are magnetic on the camera side to allow the cameras to be easily removed for charging. The magnets are very strong and allow easy adjustment of the cameras once placed.
Next up is the wireless base. The only reason I am mentioning it at all is that it has one hidden trick up its sleeve, a siren. The small box looks pretty unassuming and like another piece of networking gear expect it comes armed with a 110db siren. Even the app suggests that if you manually trigger it to make sure you are well away from it. While it is indeed loud it really isn’t audible from outside a house so your neighbor most likely wouldn’t hear it, but if you live in an apartment I assure you the neighbors will. It is a great deterrent regardless and a nice add-on. Just make sure you can place the base someplace open as sticking it in a closet would negate the feature.
On to the software itself. The Arlo system can either be controlled from a web browser or through the dedicated app. There is also an AppleTV app which makes the system even more fun to use. Each app has all of the functionality of the web based control so you can feel free to use whichever is most comfortable. I primarily used the system on my iPhone and it has worked great. It evens supports TouchID making the login process super easy. There are tons of options for the system allowing one to use it in all manners of situations. They offer both motion and audio detection when in “Armed” mode meaning that they could be used for surveillance. Once the cameras are activated the system will upload ten second clips to your Arlo account. With the free account, Arlo will keep the video for seven days. The system can also notify you via e-mail or through your phone’s notification system each time the camera is triggered, but if you live in a house like me with kids and animals you will quickly disable the feature or you will be swamped with notifications. There is also a geo-fencing option meaning that you can set a perimeter to engage the system. In other words, you could set it so that it will arm itself when you leave the house and then disarm when you return. Since I am using it more for keeping an eye on my kids when they are downstairs I leave the cameras in the disarmed setting and simply look in on them every now and again. Makes parenting even lazier when you factor in the two-way communications.
As a whole the system is really quite remarkable. I have been using them for just over a week and I have not experienced a single issue with them. No disconnects, no crashing apps, no dropped video. It just works and works well. The price of additional Pro cameras is a bit daunting if you want to expand the system and I am also not entirely sure if much of my great experience is due to the fact that I only have two cameras and have not been taxing the system, but so far the system is a definite recommend to anyone looking for a wireless camera setup.

They do not offer active noise cancellation. They do however provide pretty decent passive noise cancellation if you can get them snug in your ears.

Glossy with an anti-glare finish. Does a reasonable job with reflections, but is no match for a matte screen.

Does an regular iPhone 7 fits in the aq10 dry box?

No. The AQ10 dry box is pretty small. Maybe an iPhone 4 or possibly a 5.

I have a Comcast modem going to a apple time capsule for wifi. Can this be installed after that and still give me access to time capsule and increase speeds?

Yes, the Orbi router can be placed into Access Point mode and used to extend your existing network.

How much are the Satlelites and are/when they available? My home is 4200 square feet. W/2000 square feet of finished basementnd I need all 3 floors covered. I know 2 cant cover 6200sqft. But one on each floor might. Also can each work being cat6 wired in

Three units (including the router itself) should have you covered assuming you can place them roughly center on each floor. Unfortunately, the satellites cannot be wired in at this time, but I do believe Netgear is looking at the situation. I am using the router and a single satellite in a ~4000sq ft home with a finished basement and it works great even with the satellite being connected wirelessly. Keep in mind the Orbi system uses a dedicated 5ghz channel as a backhaul so it does not work like a conventional router/extender combo.
