Comfortable. Dolby can add slight metallic effect.
on August 9, 2019
Posted by: BeingHonest
from austin, tx
Pro:
-Lightweight and comfortable
-Freely adjustable height
-Customizable sound profiles with Astro Command Center
Con:
-Dolby can have echoing metallic ting
-Portability
The A50 is one of the lightest headsets I have. The flexible band, soft earpiece, low clamp force, and the freely adjustable height (no clicks at certain intervals) make it feels lighter and a comfortable wear. The earpieces are magnetic making it easier to clean and swap out. All the controls (volume, profiles, dolby, and game/chat volume) are easily accessible on the right with big clearly distinct buttons. The mic is a bit soft but otherwise fine.
The base station has magnetic charging and stays put reasonably well. It has idicators for the various modes as well as audio out for streamers. You need to switch it to PC mode when connecting to Astro Command Center.
The sound is where I have a bit of an issue. With Dolby turned off, it sounds fine, but lacks the punch of surround. With it on, in most cases it still sounds good but it will have a bit of a hollow metallic tinge to it. Like walking in a big empty warehouse. It’s only noticeable if you really listen closely. However in select games (in particular Bloodstained Ritual of the Night) that metallic effect is overpowering and obviously different between having it on and off. Navigating menus and footsteps have a clear clang to them. That game sounded fine on my other headset and my speakers.
The Command Center lets you download custom profiles. They update the firmware and profiles and is recommended to update the headset. I just stick to the default Pro or Studio setting. It’s easy to use and you can adjust channels and frequencies to your liking.
Overall I think it’s a good headset. Definitely one of the most comfortable pairs I’ve owned. The Dolby setting can add some weird effect but with most games it’s fine.

Vivid colors but lack fully custom color scenes.
on July 11, 2019
Posted by: BeingHonest
from austin, tx
Pro:
-simple setup
-vivid colors
-Alexa integration
Con:
-limited configuration
-lack full customization for lighting schemes
-power brick is big and needs a lot of space from the outlet
The Nanoleaf Canvas is simple and produce vivid lighting effects. It really adds a conversation piece to my living room. The setup is easy, done by connecting each square with a small linking tab near each of the corners. I used mounting putty rather than the included 3M mounting tape so that I can move them around. The main drawback is that because of where the links are located, your design is somewhat limited. Sometimes the tabs doesn’t line up where you want them to and you can’t have any space between each square.
You can just use the controls on the main square to cycle through color schemes, but all the advanced settings are in the app, which will require you to make an account. With the app you can create dynamic moving colors, rhythm based, or interactive scenes. However the options are somewhat basic. I was hoping to be able to create a fully customizable color scheme, layering color and movement square by square, much like a full RGB gaming keyboard. Feels like a missed opportunity. You can also download what other people have created.
The Alexa and Google integration is really nice to have. With the Alexa app, you’re limited to changing the basic color under devices option, but you can create a scene in the Nanoleaf app and command Alexa to switch scenes. I’ve set up routines to switch scenes when I turn on Netflix or my gaming consoles.
If you want a hi-tech flashy statement on your wall, then this is a good choice. I prefer the squares over the triangles as you can make a wider configuration with fewer pieces. I hope they add more customization options later on.

Enjoy quality network programming with this Terk ultra-thin HDTV antenna. Two-sided mounting tape makes wall and window installation possible, while a slim profile takes up very little space once installed. Multidirectional reception design makes adjustments unnecessary, while white and black sides allow this Terk ultra-thin HDTV antenna to fit into various decors.

Half the channels for twice the price
on June 26, 2019
Posted by: BeingHonest

Pro:
It’s really thin
Con:
Picked up less channels than cheaper basic antenna
Takes up outlet
Half the channels for twice the price. 2 stars because it did manage to get some channels. I know OTA antenna can be finicky, but I live near all the major towers. In the same location, my cheaper antenna was able to pick up 20+ channels, while the Turk only got 11, despite the amplifier showing full signal strength. It couldn’t even pick up Fox at all. The free app just shows a map of the nearest towers and tells which direction is optimal, but unless you live in a glass house, it’s not going to matter. The amp also requires an outlet. Not worth it.

Good prints. Cheap ink.
on June 26, 2019
Posted by: BeingHonest
from austin, tx
Pro:
-Good print quality
-Easy to set up
-Ink is cheaper
Con:
-Setup was slow
-Scanning lack some advanced color correction
-LCD screen is small
I like the overall design of this printer. It’s light and compact and easier to fold and stow away. It does feel somewhat hollow and plasticy though. The display is small and isn’t a touch screen, but other than when inputting text, it’s perfectly fine. I’d rather have buttons than a bad touch screen, like on my last printer.
The ink is not a typical cartridges but instead comes in individual bottles that you pour into the tank in front of the printer. The bottles are spill proof and specifically keyed to avoid mistakes. A pack of the bottles is cheaper than the cartridges and is supposed to last much longer.

Setting up was easy, albeit slow. On the printer side, it takes about 15 minutes to load and charge the ink. Setting up the wifi through the Epson software was slow, and in my case, gave me an error. It’s best to avoid the hassle and manually set up the wifi on the printer.
Once setup was complete, wireless printing was working well. There’s no additional step needed to use it with my iOS devices. There’s an option where you can sign up and use the printer over the internet without the need to install drivers on every computer, but I opted to not use it.
Print quality was good. I didn’t have any banding and the gradient was smooth. The printing speed was also good. For a full page image, the colors reproduction was a bit washed out and a bit grainy but is still pretty close to the original source.
The scanning and copying was fine, but the scanning utility seems to lack advanced color correction settings (levels and balance) from previous versions I’ve used. Using the functions at the printer could use some streamlining. I had to hop through a few options to do a simple 2 sided copy.
I did have issues trying to get it to scan directly on the printer and sending it to the computer, but it’s unlikely that would be part of my workflow, so I didn’t give it much thought.
So far this seems like a good home printer for occasional use. I’ve had a few Epson printers and have always prefer their print quality. This new ink system is much cheaper and hopefully will last longer than cartridges.

The sound is fine for the price, but the ear piece didn't fit my ears comfortably. The long curve of the ear piece ends up pressing against the inside of my ear and is too irritating to wear. It did seem to stay in the ear while moving around within the short time I wore them.

Won't pair. Tried everything. Support can't either
on June 7, 2019

I'm good with tech and never had an issue where I couldn't set up a device, but apparently I'm the odd one out who couldn't get this camera to set up properly. It couldn't locate any networks and can't pair the camera in the app. I went through three cameras, tried it on my iPhone 8 Plus, iPad, and my old Galaxy S6, and even tried it on my Netgear Orbi and an Assus router. Tech support went through it and they couldn't make it work either. I was told that it seems to be an issue with the app not working properly and to use a newer phone that was released within a year. I wanted to review this camera properly, but at that point I gave up.

Great sound, but not as private as claimed
on May 21, 2019
Posted by: BeingHonest
from austin, tx
Pro
-Great audio
-Auto off feature when turning the glasses upside down
-Sweat resistant (IPX2)
Con
-Not private
-3 hr battery life
-Bulky
-Bose AR is limited
Really a 3.5 stars. The glasses part aren’t the best, but the sound quality is impressive. Other people can sometimes hear what you’re listening to, and the battery life is short. It has some shortcomings, but it does what it’s meant to do, which is great audio without blocking out the rest of the world. It’s a unique experience to be able to hear music and podcasts as if they were playing right in your ear, and at the same time listen and hold conversation like normal.
Build
The Rondo runs a bit small. The frame has four speakers on each side, with a single multi-function button and charging contacts on the right side. I’m sure the internal sound technology is really impressive, but the outside frame, while light, feels bulky and plasticky. The temples are thick, so a lot of it make contact with my face, which can feel uncomfortable after a while, especially if I’m sweating. Speaking of which, they are sweat resistant, but only slightly, against dripping water (IPX2). The lenses are lightly tinted and feels like movie 3D glasses. It feels like they’ll scratch easily.
Function
Nothing fancy. You press the button once to play/pause, twice for next, and three times for previous. For me, the button is too close to the hinge, and I often accidentally hit it. It does have a cool auto off feature whenever you turn the glasses upside down, but can be too quick to activate.
The app does nothing other than control your music, show battery level, and links to Bose AR apps. No equalization or any other settings. Bose AR may be a cool feature, but right now it’s not well utilized. Mostly interactive stories and navigation guide based on your head movement.
Battery life is not that great. I got about 3 hours.
Sound
The sound is impressively good. It sounds as good as other expensive headphones, except I can still hear my surroundings. For music, the sounds are immersive, the vocals are clear and the instruments stand out. Not as good for movies (you’ll won’t likely use these for watching videos anyway), but you still get good sound directions. The bass is a neutral level and can’t be adjusted, so if you need booming bass, then you may be disappointed.
Audio level and privacy can be an issue. In a quiet place, it’s plenty loud and the whole room can clearly hear it. With average background noise (in a room or outside), it’s more muffled, but someone close to you can still hear it clearly. In louder places (on the road or crowded places), the frame is drowned out.

A bit big to fit ac vent, but still works fine
on May 19, 2019
Posted by: BeingHonest
from austin, tx
Pro:
-2 metal plate include
-Simple no damage installation
Con:
-Blocks wireless charging
-Too big to fully fit ac vent
-Blocks one ac vent
Nice and simple clip and tighten lock. The clip is a bit too big to fully fit in my car’s (Honda CR-V) ac vent to be fully stable, but it’s good enough so that it doesn’t wobble too much. With my iPhone 8+, it does put some pressure on the plastic air vents, but it shouldn’t be too much to damage it. The magnet is strong enough to hold a plus size phone.
Comes with two metal plates, a small one for using on the outside of a case, or a bigger one to be used between the phone and case. The plates will block wireless charging so you have to attach it near the bottom, but then mounting your phone sideways isn’t possible.

Easy to use. Video can range from good to grainy.
on May 9, 2019
Posted by: BeingHonest
from austin, tx
Pro:
-Quick setup
-No lag passthrough
-RECentral is good
-Multi platform streaming at once
-Portable
-Low cpu usage
Con:
-Needs a good gpu
-Passthrough requires power from USB
-Video quality is average to subpar
-No manual
-Price, when compared to the better model
I’m have little experience with game capture so I’m the exact target buyer for the Live Mini. I think it’s good for what it is, albeit a bit pricey when considering you can get the next model up, which has 4K pass through, for $30 more. It’s easy to use and the video quality is ok, not great, but not terrible.
Setting up was easy, simply instal RECentral (I had to dig around their site to get it) and plug in all the cables. I was up and capturing within minutes. I tested on three different PCs and didn’t have any issues. While playing, I experienced no noticeable lag. The passthrough requires the PC to be powered on, somewhat an inconvenience.
The RECentral software is full featured and user friendly. Even if you’re not familiar with encoding or streaming, the setup wizard will walk you through it and the presets are enough for most use cases. You can insert webcam footage, video files, texts, and webpages while streaming. You can set it up to stream to multiple platform (Twitch and YouTube) at once. It’s actually quite powerful and it doesn’t use of a lot of CPU power. It does use a lot of GPU power, so you’ll still need a good GPU to capture 1080p 60fps.
The video quality is hit or miss for me. At best, I’ll get a slightly compressed 1080p, and the video will look fine. When playing a fast pace game, however, the video can look grainy, pixelated, and have color banding. I went through all the settings, switching from GPU to CPU, tested it on an i7 8600 with GTX 1070, and an i5 9600 with RTX 2070, and saw no improvement. I’ve seen other reviewers get a constantly good capture quality so it may be something on my end.
This is a good starter capture card. You don’t need a beefy streaming rig and everything you need to start capturing and streaming is there. At this price though, it may be a better option to buy the next model up, especially if you have a PS4 Pro or Xbox OneX. Despite the price and the questionable video quality, I’m still giving it a recommend for its size and ease of use.

Works great with the Switch
on May 3, 2019
Posted by: BeingHonest
from austin, tx
Pro:
Small and light
Battery is good for size
Comes with carrying pouch, short 3.5mm cable, and USB cable
Con:
Still uses micro USB
This is a simple solution for me to use with Nintendo Switch. It works well, was easy to set up, and is small and lightweight. It’s about 2in x 1.5in and weighs practically nothing. The short 3.5mm wire feels heavier. I can leave it hanging on the back of my Switch and don’t even notice it. The battery lasts up to 8 hours and charges in less than 2 hours.
The only negative is that it still uses micro USB rather than USB C. So I have have to carry an extra cable, but at least I don’t have to carry the extra cable for my headphones.

HP's take on MacBook Air, and it's good!
By BeingHonest
With an attractive design and lightweight portability, this laptop is a (big) tablet size package with full size laptop performance. The laptop is incredibly thin at a mere 10.4 mm and weighting at 2.45 lbs.
Build:
The exterior is a matte finish trimmed with gloss gold, which is reflected with the keyboard. This finish is nice since it doesn't leave fingerprints but the shinny gold is prone to marks. While personally I'm not a fan of the dark gray and gold, it does have a premium look to it. On the back is the headphone jack, 2 usb type C, and a power port, along with the exhaust along the bottom.
Display:
The Spectre comes with a 13 inch IPS 1080p display, and while not on par with a retina display, is clear and sharp. You really don't need a higher resolution for this size. The display setting is default to a custom setting in windows, which I find to be about right. The screen is glossy, which can be annoying. The viewing angle is great! I was surprised that this was an IPS panel.
Keyboard and trackpad:
The keyboard is a typical chicklet type key and is responsive and easy to type with. It is backlit and with the gold trimmed keys, gives a nice glowing effect. The glass trackpad is nice and smooth and functions like a button with gesture controls (which I mostly disabled). It's essentially an Apple trackpad.
Speakers:
The speakers sandwich the entire keyboard, and while HP boast that it's custom tuned by Bang & Olufsen, it performs like what you would expect from tiny speakers on a tablet. Not so good, but considering its size, is adequate for watching videos. With music, it tends to crack at higher volumes and the bass is lacking. Still, the speakers can produce good volume and the individual channels stands out.
Performance:
With an i7 and 8 gb of ram, this laptop can handle any day to day task without a hitch. Just don't expect to do any modern gaming with this. Thanks to its PCIe SSD, this thing is fast. It boots up faster than my gaming desktop. But with only 256gb of storage, you might need an external drive. I'm used to gaming laptop so to me the battery life is very good. I can get at least 5 hours of use without optimizing the brightness and performance. It takes a few hours to fully charge and you should be good to go for a while. There doesn't seem to be a way to replace the ssd or battery so I'm hoping they last. I have one major issue with the performance, and is that it can get hot, not warm, but hot. Installing windows update, this laptop got too hot to be in my lap. Doing multitasking can get quite warm as well.
Overall this laptop performs to my expectations. It's thin and light and can handle everyday tasks smoothly. There's not much HP bloatware, which I find refreshing. It comes with a usb C adapter and a slip cover, but in my case is a tad too small and tight. Even with some of its shortcomings, I can't fault it too much given how much was packed into such a small form factor.
This laptop was provided to me for my honest review.

Thanks for letting me know about the ssd and battery. I didn't see any way to remove the cover, but good to know it's doable. And yes I no longer put it on my lap (laptop-the irony) due to the heat issue. The ventilation is one of the issue I have with this thing, but it's still a good machine.

Does this have a 850 w power supply? Which brand/ model video card is used for this rtx 2070?

Not sure about the power supply (not visible without taking it out), but with Dell you won't be getting any brand name parts. Just generic grade. The 2070 is a blower style.

Listen to your playlist in peace with these Sony headphones. They have a 40mm dome driver to deliver the full depth of audio, and the noise cancelling feature minimizes outside disturbances for a better listening experience. These Sony headphones have a battery life of up to 30 hours for extended jam sessions.

Really wanna buy these headphones, but does the ANC from these (Sony) create an undesirable pressure to the eardrums? Tried the Bose, they hurt my ears after a while...

I think your case is unique. I haven't heard about noise cancelling causing pain. I have both the Sony and Bose and all I can say is that they are similar, but with the Sony you can adjust the level of NC so that it has less effect in their App. By default, the Sony has a bit of a hiss. It's worth a shot.

I am moving to Australia & hear different information about the power adapters. Do I need a converter to charge this HP laptop internationally? I have the adapter & a converter. Just want to be on the safe side. Thank you!

On the power brick, it says that it takes 100-240v so it should be fine internationally.

Which available adapter is recommended for using with: HDMI screen Ethernet RJ45 network 2 regular USB ports (for wireless keyboard/ printer/ disk on key, not usb-c) Charging ?

There's no HDMI or ethernet out. It only comes with 2 usb-c so you'll just need an adapter to connect to non usb-c devices.

Stay cool with this Honeywell Turbo Force HT-906 table fan that features 120° extra-wide horizontal oscillation to help keep a large area comfortable. The pivoting head can be adjusted up to 60° for flexible positioning.

How quiet or loud is this fan?

Tired of noisy fans; how is this one for noise? Thanks.
It's a bit quieter but really no quieter than any oscillating fan I've had. This is just smaller and has decent air flow.
