Best Mop for My Floors
on April 23, 2020
Posted by: BPTech
from Ventura, CA
I am a big fan of Shark products and when I saw they had a new vacmop out, I was pretty stoked to get it. I have luxury vinyl plank flooring in my house and have been using the other big brand name competitor (you know who I am talking about) for those, and never was quite satisfied. Then came the Shark Vacmop.
The fact this is a 2 in 1 is fantastic, a lot of times I have tiny crumbs to clean up that may have been missed by the Roomba or just fresh from in between cleanings. With a traditional mop, it tends to just push that around the floor and spread it. With this, you can vacuum up the dry messes first and then mop up after.
The mop pads are brilliant on this thing, they click into place so you don't have to fight with Velcro trying to align it properly, the mop pad has a built in capture bin for the dry messes you vacuum up, the pads are very absorbent and clean very well. Also, the unit has a no touch disposal method so you don't have to peel the pad off and get it all over your hands! The other nice thing is you don't have to put a lot of pressure to use this mop, you just need to simply glide and it will clean well.
The cleaning solution smells great and works great too on my floors, I have never seen my floors as clean before!
My one complaint is that you really should do all the vacuuming with the unit BEFORE activating the wet mop feature. It kind of makes it a double chore, but I found it is the only way to use this unit effectively. I tried doing the vacuuming at the same time as the mopping, and when the pad gets wet, it is near impossible for the suction on the vacuum to work because it can't get a good suction on the floor with a wet pad. It makes sense, but it would've been nice if you could truly do both at once, but hey, as long as the floor is sparkling clean, it is ok.
The refills seem to be fairly priced for what they do, they are a little higher than the other competitor but I feel worth it.

Removed year old stains!
on March 16, 2020
Posted by: BPTech

I've always used cheap stain removers that never really did the trick, they would remove some of the stain, but not penetrate deep enough. This stuff however, if you follow the instructions and let it soak for 10 minutes and then blot it with a rag, careful to lift the stain up not rub it in, you will achieve some great results! I used this on an area rug that had some old stains from food, a wrist guard for my keyboard, my car seats which were in dire need of stain removal, and it worked on all of them! Highly recommend this product.

Great Toaster Oven with Convection Feature
on March 1, 2020
Posted by: BPTech
from Ventura, CA
So I used to use a wolfgang puck toaster oven for the longest time. My biggest gripe with that one was that it would start to steam because it was half pressure cooker, but even without that feature on, steam would escape and warp cabinets.
This toaster oven removes that problem and is a great addition to my kitchen. The convection feature is great, I recommend using it when you want to get a nice crisp on whatever it is you are baking, albeit: fries, biscuits, crispy chicken, pizza, etc.
This unit has a few built in presets which makes baking easy, you can also toast bread in here and program it to how many slices and even the shade of color you want your bread. I have tested this and it seems to be very accurate to the shade that it represents.
This thing also heats up quite fast, I would say you could preheat to 450 within 8 minutes, lower temperatures are quicker.
I have not been able to make a roast or anything yet in it, but it does come with a built in thermometer that you would place into the meat and then plug the probe inside the oven and the oven will automatically shut off once the desired internal temperature of your meat is achieved. This is almost making my full sized oven obsolete!
If you are in the market for a toaster oven that can do it all and replace an air fryer as well, then look no further. For the price, the size, the features, you can not beat this.

A Large Flashy Mouse-pad
on December 2, 2019
Posted by: BPTech
from Ventura, CA
Let me start off by saying this thing is pretty massive. I did not expect the mousepad to take so much room up on my desk, so be aware. I can barely fit it on my desk with my mechanical keyboard and my macbook next to it.
The RGB lighting is pretty cool, all the lighting is controlled on the mousepad itself, there is a little sensor you touch at the top to scroll through various colors and then ultimately off.
The mousepad itself is also pretty darn heavy, it is made out of metal. The trackpad surface is ok, it is a little too coarse for my liking but still offers great trackability.
One little thing that is odd, maybe its just my computer, but sometimes when my computer is off, the phantom power that is left over resides in the mousepad and causes the RGB lights to turn on, not a big deal, just odd.
For the price, you can't beat it, other mousepads are almost double the cost with the same features.

Good Espresso, but complicated to use
on November 25, 2019
Posted by: BPTech
from Ventura, CA
I love coffee, and I love espresso, so I was pretty excited to receive this product. The Keurig of Espresso.
The good:
- It is incredibly fast to make espresso, like stupid fast from the time you turn it on. Within 30 seconds of turning it on you can have a nice cup of espresso ready for you.
- It tastes good! The quality of the espresso is fantastic, and you can even fine tune this machine depending on how hard or soft your water is etc. I haven't gotten to this point yet of fine tuning it, but plan to.
- In theory, it is easy to use. I will go more into detail as to why I have some gripes with it.
- Easy to clean. Everything that you need to clean comes apart easy and is easy to wipe off and clean.
The bad:
- I don't know if it is user error, or if I have a bad unit, but I can not for the life of me get it to make me cappuccinos or any of the milk based drinks accurately without it complaining I need to clean it every time! I filled the milk to the top, secured the milk container, put my cup and a pod and it only spits out hot milk and a little espresso but never froths it. I tried reading the manual, but it is a little convoluted.
- No easy quick start guide included. You have to read the manual with this product, I wish it came with a little quick start guide on how to make the most out of your machine, but instead it is in a manual that is hard to read and follow.
- Hard to find nespresso pods. Even Costco doesn't carry them! They have other brands but those are not guaranteed to work. So you can find yourself spending a fair amount of money on trying to keep up with this machine.
I will probably need to mux around more with the machine to get the most out of it and see if I am doing something wrong with the milk frother. I've used other espresso machines before and never had an issue with making milk based drinks. If I do have issues, I will contact the manufacturer, but it may just be me not doing everything correctly (which goes into user friendliness)

Good Features and Sound, but Uncomfortable
on October 25, 2019
Posted by: BPTech
from Ventura, CA
I have owned many wireless headsets over the years and consider myself to be an audiophile, so when I saw Bowers and Wilkins was making a new wireless headphone, I had to jump in. I like the smaller form factor, the sound quality and features on them, but I can not get past how uncomfortable they are!
SOUND:
The sound on these is pretty good. I appreciate it has a wide spectrum from 10mhz - 30khz. The drivers are an appropriate size for the form factor at 35. The bass is pretty clear and the highs are crisp, but the mids could be slightly better for a fuller sound, it is a bit thin for my taste. I EQ with apps so after doing that, it was slightly better, and also burning the speakers in helps as well.
FEATURES:
The bluetooth pairing was seamless, the fact it has USB C for charging is an added bonus, the app leaves more to be desired that you can download on your phone. I wish you could EQ there or have preset sound stages. You can only control the connection, the name, and the noise canceling. Speaking of which, the noise canceling is pretty good on these, and I appreciate the fact it has different variations of noise canceling; low, medium, high. The "low" one is ambient area and adjusts accordingly, high is complete silence. I like high the best. I also like how when you lift an ear bud slightly, it will pause your music automatically while you talk to someone and then automatically resume when you put the earpiece back over your head.
COMFORT:
Wow, I thought my Skullcandy crusher's were uncomfortable, but these are worse. I don't know if its my head shape or what, but I can not wear these for more than 30 minutes at a time without my ears being incredibly sore and almost to the point where I am getting a headache. My Sony noise canceling headphones are the most comfortable and those I can wear for hours on end without fatigue or discomfort. I could NEVER wear these on a plane because I would be taking them off every 30 minutes while my ears recover. This is the absolute most devastating part of these headphones, I want to like them, but I can't fathom wearing them for long.
All in all, they are solid wireless headphones that have a great battery life and build and sound quality, but be weary, they may be very uncomfortable for you! Perhaps if you have small ears you're fine, but these don't even fully cover my ears because of the smaller form factor. At this price point, I couldn't justify it.

Compact Keyboard with many Features
on October 23, 2019
Posted by: BPTech
from Ventura, CA
So I am pretty big on mechanical keyboards, I have always loved the feel of them and are privy to Cherry blues. This keyboard has a similar feel to Cherry blues with the Blue Clicky switches. They are not as loud as Cherry blues (which my coworkers appreciate) but still extremely responsive and have 0 lag. The keyboard feels good on the fingers, the response is fast, the compact nature makes it easy to put anywhere on any desk. I have a Corsair Hyper-X (10 key) and I admit, I like the compact nature of this keyboard better because it does allow me to move my mouse around with ease and not have to worry about bumping my keyboard.
The features on this keyboard are quite impressive, but only possible through the GHub application which you have to download and install on your computer in order to take advantage of. This is where the keyboard really shines is when you pair it with the GHub app. The amount of macros you can create is insane, and even better, you can download custom macro sets that people have created for various games and applications. I played around with these macros in gaming and in just everyday use and I am very impressed how easy it is to set them up and use them.
The customization of colors is endless on this keyboard with the GHub app! I know it sounds gimmicky, but it definitely is a cool feature on a RGB keyboard to have custom light sequences and you can save them to the keyboard itself so when you travel or move the keyboard around, it will remember those settings without having to have the app installed. You can also download custom sequences from other users.
All in all, this is a great mechanical keyboard for gaming, everyday use, to impress your friends with cool light sequences and crazy macros to achieve domination in gaming and in life. Definitely going to be switching to this as my primary keyboard!

No Thrills Printer with a Difficult Setup
on October 14, 2019
Posted by: BPTech
from Ventura, CA
Overall, if you're looking for a cartridgeless printer that can print high volumes with good quality but nothing else, then you will probably be pretty happy with this, ONCE you configure it. I do NOT recommend this for your average Joe/Jill home user, the set up is complicated and not for the not tech savvy, which irks me considering it is branded for home office use. Full disclosure: I have worked in IT for 7 years so coming from me, I have been around a printer or two... this one is not user friendly.
Pros:
- The lack of ink cartridges is nice, the bottles it comes with will last you up to 7000 pages which is great. The refills aren't badly priced either with that volume. The ink is easy to pour in, just be careful not to spill but its hard to accidentally spill. It comes with color bottles and 3 black ink bottles, nice bonus.
- Holds 250 pages, not bad for a printer this size as most only hold 100, so you can crank out a large report if need be without refilling often.
- It seems to be pretty well built and designed to handle high volumes. Good news if you do print a lot and need something reliable.
Cons:
- SETUP: Wow, this thing took way too long to get set up with mobile/PC. Even the un-boxing and put together of the printer was a little convoluted. Putting the print heads in, seems easy, but the instructions weren't 100% clear how to get it in there and to snap the lid closed. The WORST part was trying to get it to connect to my PC via the Wi-Fi connection it was on. Running the latest Windows 10, I could find the printer but it refused to connect and install the drivers manually. It is almost 2020, printers should be plug and play and be able to install drivers over the network without issue. I had to manually install drivers and software which is very 2010 mentality. I have a HP Envy printer and that had no issues connecting to my PC over the network and installing drivers automatically. Also the mobile set up was a little tricky, and then trying to register the printer to the cloud, wow... the fact I have to install a trusted root cert on my device and import it into the certificate store, do you think a normal user can do that? Even then I had issues trying to get it connected to the cloud. That was in attempts to get Alexa synced to it.
- FEATURES: This thing really lacks in features, it is a no thrills printer. It prints.... and that's it. No copy, no scan, no uploading documents to the cloud or your PC, just print print print. That's fine if you only need that, but I feel like it should at least have copy features. The only thing you can do from your smartphone is print pictures from the gallery which is cool (I guess), and documents on your phone.
All in all, if you're tech savy and have a home office or very small business that needs a workhorse printer, pick this up, otherwise, stay away if you aren't in that category.

High Quality Prints out of a Pocket Sized Printer
on October 3, 2019
Posted by: BPTech
from Ventura, CA
Full disclosure: I received this product for free in return for my honest opinion about it.
With that out of the way, overall this printer is great for those who like to print out photos they take on their smartphone and want to share it with friends, family, scrapbook, or decorate your walls with them.
Let's break it down:
Quality:
The quality of the actual printer is pretty good. The outer case is made of plastic which is one down side, I do wish it was made of aluminum or some other metal so you don't run the risk of cracking it when you take off the lid to change the paper.
The print quality is fantastic for a printer this size. The pictures are about 2.5x3.5 in size, but the clarity and color in which it prints is amazing. I did not expect such high quality prints from a pocket device.
Functionality:
Set up was a breeze, scan the QR code included, download the app, pair it to the printer and voila, you're done. The app (Sprocket) connects to your camera roll, camera, Facebook, or Instagram allowing you to print pictures from basically any source you want. Printing from camera/camera roll was very easy and you can add filters, edit and tune the image, or add stickers too.. I did run into an issue where when I synced it to my Instagram, the app would complain that every picture was "low quality" and would not print well. Not sure why as all the IG pictures I have were taken in high quality fashion (portrait mode etc.) Another cool feature is you can take pictures of art work and turn them into stickers (the paper has an adhesive side if you want to turn them into stickers). This app also has an AR feature where you can look at your printer through AR and it will show you the battery life and print queue. Cool, yes, useful.... not in my opinion, it's a little gimmicky. One last feature I love is that you can create grids of pictures, so you can do a collage of 4-6 pictures on one picture which makes for fun exciting pictures to print, and it also has a photo-booth setting where you can do photo-booth style pictures with your friends and print them instantly.
Maintenance:
Charging the printer is easy, all you need is the provided micro USB cord and a USB outlet to charge from. Battery life seems to be a few hours after a full charge. Changing the paper is easy, the printer comes with 10 sheets and instructions telling you to put it face down, making it blatantly obvious with an orange sheet of paper how to do so. The only issue I see is the plastic cover is a little flimsy that covers the paper and I worry about it breaking. The price per print is a little expensive, 50-60 cents per print. But the fact you do not have to buy ink cancels that out as the ink is infused into the paper. I do wish HP gave you 20 sheets instead of 10 when you get the product as 10 is not enough to get started.
Final Thoughts:
All in all, this printer provides great print quality in a form factor that can fit in your pocket. The app is easy to use and you can seamlessly create fun pictures to share or keep for yourself, or make stickers out of them. The customization of pictures is endless, the fun you can have is endless and since it is app driven, it only adds the possibility of new features in the near future.

Decent Sounding/Functioning Speaker for Outdoors
on September 27, 2019
Posted by: BPTech
from Ventura, CA
Full disclosure: Received this product for free to test with and review it for my honest opinion. Honestly this is more of a 3.5/5, but for the price, I rounded up to 4. This speaker has some goods and some bads; let's break it down.
The Good:
1. Lightweight and fairly small. It is an 8 x 8 inch cube basically.
2. Aux and 1/4 in compatibility. Makes this turn into a good auxiliary speaker for a device or you can put a microphone in it to use a PA system. I honestly can't test that as I don't have a 1/4 to XLR adapter right now.
3. Good sound output. This thing when cranked to the max can really push out, however the bass is super muddy (will talk about in bad). This does not sound good up close, but it is an outdoor speaker so the idea is just to push sound out, which it does a good job at.
4. Good Bluetooth functionality. I can be about 40-50 feet away in my house and this still reaches through walls etc. Outside with no obstruction, you would be able to walk away and still have music streaming.
5. Radio capability works well. Can get good reception, especially while outside to all local stations.
6. Long battery life, you can get about 15-20 hours in between charges and it charges within a few hours. It also comes with an AC adapter in case you happen to be near power as this is the mechanism that also charges it while it can run just off this AC power.
The Bad:
1. Poor bass. I know this thing isn't supposed to be a very high quality system, but the bass is so tin like and disperses poorly at higher outputs. Anything below 100khz is just muddy.
2. The NFC pairing doesn't work on iPhone. I have an XR and some products work with it with NFC but this one sadly doesn't.
3. FM/AM seeking is pretty slow, even if you hold the button it only goes 2-3 stations tops. So you just have to spam the seek button. I wish they built this functionality into one of the volume dials instead of using a button. Dials make it easier for FM/AM.
4. You can play bluetooth at the same time the radio function is on. This is silly of a bug, but if you have the radio on and your phone is paired to this thing, all sounds from your phone will play while the radio is on, this could be music, alerts, videos etc. So it can be awkward in public.... It should just turn the radio off if it detects sound from the phone via bluetooth.

Can the OS windows 8 be uninstalled and replaced with windows 7?

I really would like to buy the surface pro 3. I do t like the windows 8 OS, before I buy the product I want to make sure I can uninstall the 8 and replaced it with the 7.
No it isn't possible because of drivers and its a special image of Windows 8.1 the surface uses. Why would you want to put an OS like Windows 7 on a tablet? 8.1 was built for something like this. I was like you once all against 7, but trust me, this device was optimized and built for windows 8.1 and you won't be disappointed.
