Like Gliding on Ice

The Lexip Mouse Ceramic Glide Feet make my Lexip mouse glide around the mouse pad like it's skating on ice. They make for such a smooth movement that I can't believe all mice don't come with these on them. I use a very old mouse pad but with the ceramic glides, it is just such a pristine feeling movement and I love it. I would definitely recommend these for a nice, smooth ride on your mouse pad.

Great on Windows, Good but Clunky on Android

AVG Ultimate gives you protection from lots of different angles while you're online. On my PC it runs smoothly and in the background without slowing anything down. It protects your computer, your email accounts, your web browsing, online payments and offers VPN service to make it harder for hackers to get to you. This can all be set to run on its own without you having to worry about updating anything or manually checking on things. You can do things manually as well if you want to go that route, so it's flexible. It also provides benefits like a PC tuneup and password protection.
I love how AVG Ultimate works on my PC. I like, but don't love it on my Andorid phone. On the phone it seems to always be pushing notifications and telling me to clean junk files or boost performance, etc. Too many notifications that I can't seem to get rid of.
As stealthy and on point as AVG is on my PC, it seems to be too much in my face on my phone. That's why I knocked it down from five to four stars, but I really do like this product when all is said and done.

Pretty Good AC Router but AX is the Way To Go
on October 14, 2019
Posted by: The34Car
from Beavercreek, OH
The Linksys Max-Stream MR9000 is a pretty good router for homes with less than 25 wifi devices.
Setup was a breeze with the Linksys smartphone app. There were no setup instructions included, except to say to use the app to set it up. If you don't have a smartphone, you probably don't need this router anyway, so that shouldn't be an issue.
I installed this router and added three Linksys Velop mesh router nodes to give even coverage throughout the home. I am now able to get max speeds in the basement where I wasn't able to before.
Placement of this router is very important, so make sure to put it in a centrally located location that is unobstructed, like on top of a bookshelf or desk. The power cord is not very long, which may make that difficult to accomplish without an extension cord.
The Linksys app allows you to see what devices are connected to the wifi and allows you to prioritize up to three devices for those selected to get first priority. The app also allows you to do speed tests, has parental controls and guest access.
Overall I'm happy with the ease of setup, performance and app of the Max Stream MR9000. I gave it four stars instead of five because it is using AC wifi instead of AX.

Nice Kitchen Small Appliance if You Have Space
on September 4, 2019
Posted by: The34Car
from Beavercreek, OH
The Ninja Foodi is highly versatile and can cook delicious food in a fraction of the time it would take in a conventional oven or fryer.
Nine different functions mean that you can use this product in some capacity with probably every meal. Crispy chicken wings take around 20 minutes and come out tasting great. That said, it’s not the kind of thing you can just plop the wings into and leave it. You need to tend to the wings during that time, pressurizing, depressurizing, etc. Still, using the Foodi is a huge overall time saver.
The Foodi is fairly complicated to use. But on the bright side, the included instructions are clear and easy to follow. Still, it can be a little overwhelming for a novice.
The Foodi comes with a lot of pieces right out of the box, including a pretty big recipe booklet. Unfortunately, some of those recipes require you to purchase additional accessories because they aren’t included in the box which for me was a bit of a downer.
The Foodi washes pretty easily, which is an important part of the time/effort value that it brings to the table.
One negative is that the Foodi is big and heavy, and you can’t store all of its parts inside it, so it takes up a lot of storage/counter space. Also, the Foodi says that at this size, it can cook for up to ten people. That seems a bit overstated to me. I feel like it is pretty full when cooking for four people. Although you could cook in several batches and still finish before using a regular oven (but then you have to worry about keeping the first batch warm).
While I’m on the subject of keeping the food warm after cooking, the Foodi has a nice warmer function that keeps the food warm without drying it out too much.
Overall I’d say that the Foodi is a nice addition to any kitchen. Is it a necessity? No. But it is convenient when you need to cook something fast. Just be sure you have the space to store it.

The Rift S is So Cool
on June 18, 2019
Posted by: The34Car
from Beavercreek, OH
I had a Samsung Gear VR that I didn't use much because it just wasn't all that. This is my first VR system that is connected to my computer and man is it cool.
The Rift S is so immersive and so comfortable to use. I was playing around learning how to use an app called Medium and I lost all track of time. It was so engrossing and fun, and it's not even a game!
The headset is padded in all the right places and the weight is evenly distributed. There's only one cable connecting you to the computer and it's plenty long.
There are lots of games and apps available in different genres so there's something for everyone to enjoy.
The Oculus Rift S gets us one sweet step closer to walking into the Holodeck.

Easy Setup and Excellent Video Quality
on June 10, 2019
Posted by: The34Car
from Beavercreek, OH
The Arlo Ultra security camera has amazing clarity in its videos. It can be used indoors or outside. I have mine outside with a 180 degree color view of our yard. The picture is sharp and detailed. I can zoom in on things for more detail and I receive alerts on my phone if a person is detected in the view. The alerts have worked perfectly, letting me know every time we come and go through the yard.
Even in the dark, the camera provides an excellent image.
It is wire free, and could easily be stolen, but you will have the perpetrator on video if it is. Because it works through wi-fi, you are somewhat limited on where you can place it. Too far from your router and it won't work.
Setup is super easy. Download the app to your phone, screw the base into the place you want the camera to go and connect the included hub to your wi-fi. The camera magnetically mounts to the base so you can position it just how you want it.
I couldn't be happier with the Arlo Ultra. I plan on buying more cameras for other areas of my yard.

Nice Sound & Features in a Small but Solid Package
on April 17, 2019
Posted by: The34Car
from Beavercreek, OH
The XB32 is one of the 2019 editions from Sony's XB lineup. It is similar to the XB31 in many ways. The shape is slightly different, along with the lighting pattern.
The sound is really good, as you would expect from Sony. It has regular and Live modes. The Live mode gives a wider sound field to try and replicate the sound from a live concert. Both modes sound pretty good to me.
The speaker weighs just over two pounds and is small enough to be carried easily. It has mostly a rubberized exterior but has a mesh front. Everything is sealed off and is IP67 rated for water and dust. You can drop it in the pool and it should be okay.
The XB32 utilizes the Sony Music Center app to control things such as grouping several speakers in a party chain and to control the lighting mode and party booster mode. With Party Booster, you can beat on the speaker to make different sounds, although I don't think it works all that well.
You can pair your phone via Bluetooth or NFC and use the speaker from whatever music source you want. You don't need to go through the Sony app.
Battery life is supposed to last 24 hours or 14 hours on extra bass mode, although I haven't tested those numbers out. It came with a charge so I could play music right away, which was nice.
I'm really happy with the strong sound from such a small speaker. I'm super happy with this speaker and I would recommend it to a friend.

Great Lamp in Form and Function
on March 30, 2019
Posted by: The34Car
from Beavercreek, OH
The Dyson company is known for their technology innovation and their attention to design. The Lightcycle lamp checks off both boxes with a unique, modern design and hi-tech features.
The design is modern and minimalistic, resembling a construction crane or a universal bevel protractor (tool used to measure angles). It is both simple and complex, using pulleys, rollers and a swivel to make adjustments to the light’s aim. Positional adjustments are made effortlessly to get the light to aim just where you want it, although if you have the lamp against a wall, its adjustable area is reduced. This is because as you push the light inwards toward the vertical arm, the back end of the horizontal arm moves away at an equal rate. Having the lamp next to a wall will limit how far you can push the light towards the vertical arm. In most cases you will be able to position the base in such a way that it will get your light to aim just where you want it though. This is because it has a full 360 degree swivel. In fact the direction of light can be maneuvered in the following ways: 360 degrees rotation around the base; up and down (around 2 feet of vertical adjustment); and forward/backwards (over 1.5 feet of forward/backward adjustment). In all configurations, the light points downward, as it is fixed to the horizontal arm. I have my base behind my computer monitors with the light pointing towards my keyboard.
The lamp has two touch sensitive points on the top of the horizontal arm that control the color (shades of white) and brightness of the light. On the belly of that same arm are more buttons that control motion detection and light cycle. I find those buttons to be a bit confusing as to which one controls what, so I mainly control the settings with the Dyson Link app on my phone.
An interesting thing about this lamp is that you can configure it (through the app) to display a natural light that is similar to your exact location’s natural light. You can also enter in your age and it will change the light to optimize it specifically for you. Dyson spent years researching and developing this technology and I don’t know how much is hype and how much is science, but I can say that using their age and location synchronized settings, I find the light to be very comfortable at my workstation. The light also has a wake-up mode, sleep mode and an away mode. The away mode is interesting because it will cause the lamp to turn on and off at random intervals between 4pm and 11pm while you’re gone.
I have been using this lamp for long periods of time for quite a while now and I mostly love it. I only have a couple of things that I don’t love. First, it was harder than necessary to assemble. No tools are required but getting the vertical arm to screw into the base was a bit of a chore. There is a plastic disc underneath that the vertical arm screws into and it is very shallow and hard to get a decent grip on to get it threaded. Another thing I’m not crazy about is that there is a lot of “play” in the base, which makes the vertical arm a little wobbly. This may be a way to help balance everything, but it doesn’t seem right. It’s a little thing because when you put the light into any position, it stays there, so it doesn’t affect much; it’s just a little strange to me. The last thing is that this light has a motion detector setting that will turn off the light if there is nobody in the area. It’s a good way to make sure the light isn’t being wasted, but not so good for a workstation application. If you are being somewhat still at your desk, the light will constantly turn off on you. Thankfully, you don’t have to use the motion detector if you don’t want to, and there are probably some applications where it works better.
Overall I have to say that I love this lamp and it is a great addition to my workstation.

Little Speaker Packs A Big Sound
on March 14, 2019
Posted by: The34Car
from Beavercreek, OH
The Marshall Acton II speaker is a small but powerful speaker with a clean, balanced sound.
The Acton II is the little brother of the Stanmore II. It is pretty much identical in looks, just on a smaller scale. It has classic Marshall styling with a textured vinyl exterior and brass plate and knobs on the top of the box. The front has the iconic Marshall logo over mesh with a brass plate at the bottom.
The sound comes from three amplifiers (one subwoofer and two tweeters) and features a rear venting bass reflex system. Even though it’s Marshall’s smallest speaker, the sound will definitely fill the room without sounding strained.
The Acton II is very versatile. It can be used through Bluetooth 5.0 with AptX for lossless streaming, through streaming apps via Amazon Alexa (such as Pandora or Spotify, etc.), or through an analog connection via a 3.5 mm cable. You can also link multiple Marshall speakers together to play music across your whole home. And whichever way you choose to play your music, you have options on how to control it as well. You can use the Marshall Voice app to control equalizer and volume or you can use the knobs on the speaker itself.
Not only does this speaker give you great sound, but you can use it to control other devices or do anything that an Alexa Echo would do (as long as you have an Alexa account). If you don’t have an Alexa account, you’d be better off getting the version of this speaker that doesn’t have Alexa built in.
I love Marshall speakers and this one lived up to my expectations for sure!

Not For Everyone
on December 26, 2018
Posted by: The34Car
from Beavercreek, OH
I’ve been using my new Hypervolt for a while now and I have mixed emotions about it. For one, I feel like this is made more for athletes and therapists than the average Joe.
It is like a two and a half pound jackhammer that even on the lowest setting is very powerful. This is not a massager for someone that just wants a little destressing. For someone that is on the frail side I think it’s too powerful. Two elderly people that I tried this on both said it was too rough for them. This is more for someone that has done a workout and has specific sore muscle spots. The pounding is painful in those spots but the vibration leaves a numbing sensation in the area which provides temporary relief. The medical benefits are more anecdotal than hard science, so take them with a grain of salt.
It is a bit awkward to try on your own back. While it can be done, it isn’t an easy process so I would recommend getting someone else to use it on your back. It’s pretty easy to use on your own legs though.
Bottom line: if you’re an athlete with frequent sore muscles, give this a try as it may help with recovery. If you’re a massage therapist, this may be a good tool in your arsenal. If you’re looking for a massager to help relax away the stresses of the day, this isn’t the product for you.
I would recommend this to a friend that is an athlete, but no one else.

How exactly does the internet/online play work with these newer laptops? Do you have to get internet from a certain provider or is it something else?

Yes. The internet is like the road that you drive on and the laptop is like the car that drives on the road. You need to get internet from an internet service provider, usually via cable companies or phone companies. Then you connect your laptop to your internet connection and you're ready to go.

Do you need to purchase any connections to connect to the main computer? If you have a monitor already hooked up (it is now broken) would you be able to use those connections?

You must connect this to your computer via HDMI cable, which is provided in the box. If you need to connect with a different cable, I would look for a different monitor.
