Works Great after you finally get Set-up
on March 8, 2017

So I recently purchased my first home which has two stories so the perfect time to upgrade the Wifi network as I plan on making it a smart house. My existing wifi router worked well in my old place but lacked the power to get good reception upstairs. Moreover, I have a desktop computer without a wifi card that I want to locate in a different location than the router so the Linsys Velop system with it's modular nodes seemed to fit the bill perfectly!
My first critique is that setting up this wifi router seemed to take forever. Right away, the system could not find the first node, so it had to restart searching for it. Once found, the node could not connect to my cable modem, even though it was dirtectly plugged into it! As with most computer issues, a hard power reset of the modem was done making me wait. I am utilizing the app from my phone to do all of this set-up mind you. So I try and connect to the default network but the app simply says "please wait". That lasted for close to 10 mins so I gave up and restarted the app. So I began this vicious set-up cycle again which did go better the second time. I was able to get to the step where I needed to name the network and create a password and then the app crashed to white screen. Luckily, it appears to have transmitted the data prior to crashing as I can get on the internet and don't have to prove that the third time is indeed the charm.
In short, once the system is set-up, it works flawlessly! I havsgreat coverage throughout the house and it should handle the extra load from putting in smart home devices that I plan to make here shortly. The app set-up leaves a lot to be desired and I hope that I do not need to make changes. Moreover, it allows full transmission of my internet coming from my DOCSIS 3.1 modem giving me speeds of 150 Mb/s throughout my place!

Effective Range Extender and Bridge
on January 5, 2017

The Linksys RE7000 is an effective addition to any wireless network where reliable and extended coverage is required. This is often the case in larger homes or offices owing to the building materials utilized for construction as well as the number of interior walls or floors present. The Linksys RE7000 definitely shines at extending the Wi-Fi network but can also add a new wired port.
The RE7000 is very easy to set up offering several methods to achieve connection with your existing Wi-Fi router. In my particular case, I currently had Linksys EA9500 Max-Stream router in place which allowed for an easy set up utilizing the WPS buttons located on the router as well as the RE7000 unit. Connection between the units took only a few minutes (honestly less than 5 and that included me reading the instructions). A distinct advantage of utilizing the RE7000 is its ability to reproduce/operate at the two different Wi-Fi frequencies that my EA9500 is putting out, 2.4 GHz and 5 Ghz.
As others have mentioned, the extended network speeds may not be up the same as those supplied directly from the router which I did notice but nothing that was detrimental to streaming movies or playing video games online. My specific intended use was to utilize the LAN port of the RE7000 to provide a wired connection for an older tv without Wi-Fi connectivity, i.e operate the RE7000 as a bridge. This ability became exceptionally valuable recently when I needed to download a large file for a game on my XboxOne system. Running of the Wi-Fi I was getting variable speeds, spiking but averaging ~25 Mbps. My ISP is currently rated at 50 Mbps so I was a bit disappointed and not looking to the hour or so it was going to take to download the 5 Gb update. Luckily I remembered the wired connection and plugged my XboxOne to the LAN port of the RE7000 and suddenly I was downloading at 50-60 Mbps!
In summry, the Linksys RE7000 provides an easy and effective way to extend the Wi-Fi network in a home or office but can suffer from a reduction in connection speeds. In most cases, the reduction in speeds would likely not be noticed under average use (streaming, web viewing, etc).

Good but overkill for most...

I've had this router for several months and it has worked beautiful the whole time. It does mind me a little of a bug but eh, totally ok. This router is replaying the generic wi-fi router that my cable company provided me. That router worked fine but needed to be periodically reset and had limited range. The EA9500 router hands down out performs the generic router or any of the previous routers I have owned, many of which were Linksys. The EA9500 provides a coverage of approximately 10k sq ft which when you do the math is a circle of about 56ft from the router. I can get wi-fi signal in my car in the parking lot that is close to 75 ft away so should easily provide wi-fi coverage for most homes and small businesses. I also tested to see if there was any noticeable lag associated with multiple devices on it; I had a PS3, laptop, tablet, phone, and Netflix streaming from the tv without any issue so it covers multiple users easily as it suggests.
The short of it all is that it performs exactly as one would expect it to do any in many ways exceeds expectations (range). However, I think for most homes and many small businesses this would be overkill. The main limitation to internet access with multiple users is the port connection into the home or business. If 25 Mbs internet coming into your home you will have slower connection speed than if it was 50 or 100 Mbs, not necessarily because the amount of devices utilizing the router.

Great HDMI Cable

Verified Purchase:Yes
I bought this because it was a "Deal of the Day" and was 80% off. Its a basic HDMI cable but its support of 3D and 4K means that even though I don't have a tv supporting either right now I will be fine when I get one in the future. It has a high data transfer rate but cant say I've really tested to see if it holds up to it. Don't think I would ever be willing to pay list price unless I had a better tv that required such a cable.

Enjoy hours of reliability and speed with this HP Pavilion desktop. Its AMD Ryzen 5 processor and 12GB of RAM let you accomplish multiple tasks at the same time, and its 1TB hard drive provides plenty of space for file storage. This HP Pavilion desktop comes with a wired keyboard and mouse for interacting with Windows 10 Home.

This computer does not have fire wire. Are there any slots available to where I can add a fire wire card? My older video cam uses fire wire, and my analog to digital converter also uses fire wire.

There are two PCIe slots on the motherboard, a x1 and an x16. So it really depends on what your existing card is and whether you will buy a new one if need be that fits either PCIe slot.

It works 110-220v ?

It plugs into the household 110V; 220V would likely fry it.

I have a Blink camera system consisting of 5 cameras and one sync module. Signal is weak between sync module and cameras. Any device I can use to help with the signal strength?

That would depend entirely on how the Blink camera system operates. From their website the indication is that the cameras ONLY communicate with the sync module and not directly with your Wi-Fi network. The sync module seems to be the only component that is utilizing internet/Wi-Fi. Thus, extending your Wi-Fi network should not help your weak connectivity between the camera and sync unit of your Blink package. So the short answer is "No' but you would have to verify with the Blink manufacture to make sure that the Blink cameras are not using your home Wi-Fi.

Does anyone know the distance u can get wifi from

If I recall the information from Linksys it states coverage of 10,000 sq. ft. Doing the math that puts it at ~56 ft max from the router. My apartment is on the second floor and I can get wi-fi in my car that is ~75-100 ft from where the router is located. I can easily walk a decent ways away from the router and still have signal, i'll be it weak.
