Good sized fan that moves a fair amount of air
on April 13, 2023
Posted by: TechEnthusiast
This is a good sized fan that moves a fair amount of air.
Setting it up went fairly smoothly and only took me ten minutes or so. I will warn that the fan had a very VERY strong odor when I first unboxed it. It took the better part of a week to fully fade.
Most of the fan is made of plastic, but there is a heavy metal plate in the base to keep it from tipping over. This is a very nice touch. The stand is a little finicky though. I struggled to get it secured in such a way that it would stay up.
I found that the fan was very quiet when turned on (albeit not completely silent), and it moved a fair amount of air. On its highest speed, it did a fair job of cooling a good-sized living room.
The fans control buttons are located just below the blades of the fan. There are 3 speeds and a power button. I'm not thrilled with this design choice as it means that you have to dodge around the oscillating fan blade assembly to turn the fan on and off or to change speeds. Placing the buttons at the back of the fan (or having a remote) would have been more convenient.
Overall, I'm very happy with this fan; and I think that it will work well for my needs.

Powerful sprayer that's easy to use
on April 13, 2023
Posted by: TechEnthusiast
The Greenworks 3000 is my first pressure washer, and so far I'm loving it.
I'll confess to being a little intimidated by it when I first got it, but I was pleasantly surprised to find that it was very easy to setup and use.
The pressure washer arrived in a very large, very heavy box. It took me about twenty minutes to setup, and the only tool I needed was a Phillips head screwdriver.
Make sure to read the instructions before using this device.
The instructions direct you to turn on the water at the tap for 30 seconds before turning on the machine (to avoid damaging the pump). I almost missed this step in my eagerness to get started. Fortunately, I caught myself in time and turned the water on first.
The sprayer worked very well using just water. There is a compartment for adding soap (as well as a special nozzle for applying soap), but I didn't want to go out and purchase extra stuff for my very first use.
Using just water, I managed to do an admirable job cleaning off the nasty green algae off the side of my garage and gutters. I also managed to clean between the pavers on my patio.
I wasn't able to attain perfectly clean surfaces, but they were significantly better after pressure washing them. I suspect that with repeated cleanings (and adding soap) the surfaces will continue to look better and better.
I would caution that pressure washing does require a certain degree of skill though. When cleaning my pavers, I found that I was struggling to direct the muddy water to an appropriate spot. A lot of it ended up pooling in a depression near the center of my patio, and I ended up having to go over that spot again the next day with a broom and a leaf-blower.
I naively thought that the spray would magically clean surfaces without generating puddles of excess water and mud. That's on me though. As I get more practice using the machine, I suspect that this will be less of an issue.
The machine did a great job cleaning around the exterior of my house, and I am very happy to have gotten this.

Nice sound and comfortable, but a little finicky.
on April 5, 2023
Posted by: TechEnthusiast
These earbuds have a nice sound, and they're very comfortable in the ear, but they were a little finicky to setup.
I opted to try using these earbuds with my laptop first (as I primarily intended on using them with this laptop).
This proved to be a bit of a mistake as they didn't want to connect to my Pixel phone later. Connecting them to a phone is somewhat necessary to adjust settings and update firmware. The default button settings are perfectly adequate for my needs though, and I didn't really see the need to change them.
The earbuds are extremely comfortable, and I had no issues wearing them for an extended period.
The case is very lightweight and compact. It easily fits into the pocket of my laptop bag.
The sound quality is excellent with just enough bass to give them some "punch." I didn't observe any noticeable lag between audio and video while watching a movie with these earbuds.
Button clicks are easy and feel natural. The buttons cover almost the entire surface of the earbuds making them very easy to press.
The noise cancellation was quite impressive. I wore these while sitting by a noisy washing machine, and they almost completely eliminated the sound coming from it.
I'm quite impressed by these little earbuds and think they'll serve my needs well.

Installed easily and works well
on February 26, 2023
Posted by: TechEnthusiast
My laptop had 16GB of RAM, and I was looking to upgrade it to 32GB to help "future proof" my laptop as games and applications get more and more resource intensive.
Laptops are expensive, and spending a little on a RAM upgrade now should allow me to put off replacing the whole laptop for at least another year or two.
The upgrade went smoothly, and I'm quite happy with my laptop's performance with this RAM set.
Applications open smoothly, I'm able to multi-task without any lags or crashes, I can dedicate more RAM to my virtual machines, and I should be good to install AAA games for at least another couple years.
Getting this RAM upgrade was a major win for me, and I strongly recommend it for anyone looking to extend the life of their existing equipment.
One word of caution for those looking to upgrade though: Make sure that your device has user upgradeable RAM before purchasing this upgrade kit. A lot of manufacturers solder the RAM directly onto the motherboard. I was fortunate in that my device had two, easily accessible, RAM slots that weren't soldered in place.
Also, make sure that your laptop uses DDR4 RAM. Most laptops sold over the past couple years have DDR4 memory, but some of the more recent laptops have started to use DDR5.
If you have two user accessible RAM slots, and your laptop uses DDR4 memory, then this is the RAM set to get.

It’s time to take your trim game to the next level—from the neck up—with The Beard Hedger from MANSCAPED. Its titanium-coated, stainless-steel T-blade will whip your whiskers into shape in a single swipe. Whether you’re growing the perfect stubble, a handlebar ‘stache or a full beard, this trimmer cuts through even the thickest of facial hair. Yep, even those stubborn stubbles. It takes balls to make a beard trimmer this good, which is exactly why The Beard Hedger could only come from MANSCAPED.

Great razer - very user friendly
on February 11, 2023
Posted by: TechEnthusiast
Pros:
Self contained. It has a single adjustable guard instead of many different sized guards.
Charges via USB-C instead of a proprietary charger.
Easy to clean
Cons:
Rather large.
While a great beard and mustache trimmer, it doesn't do a great job with general shaving.
I really liked this trimmer. The adjustable head was really easy to use and adjust.
I'm coming off of a trimmer that had multiple separate heads that snapped into place.
This design is so much easier.
I also like how easy it is to clean. Just pop off the guard and give it a good rinse.
The trimmer charges via USB-C. I like that I only need to bring a single charger for both my phone and my razer when I'm traveling.
The razer doesn't do a great job with general shaving. The best that I could manage with the guard completely removed is light stubble. A clean shave it was not. Still, it did a great job cleaning up my moustache and goatee.
I'll be curious to see how well the motor and blades hold up over time. So far I'm absolutely loving this.

Sleek looking, but not a polished product.
on December 18, 2022
Posted by: TechEnthusiast
The Snaptain SP7100 Drone is a compact drone that handles well and maneuvers easily. Unfortunately, I found the drone and its app to be quite “buggy.” Operating it proved to be an exercise in frustration.
This is the second drone I’ve ever owned and the first “camera drone” I’ve ever owned.
The drone is compact, and the “arms” fold in to give it a smaller profile for storage. The drone comes with a very nice molded case that holds the drone, the controller, the charging cables, and a spare set of propellers.
Attempting to fly the drone is quite frustrating.
First, connecting the drone to the app requires a Wi-Fi direct connection. You have to disconnect your phone from any existing Wi-Fi connection and then connect to the signal that the Snaptain drone is broadcasting.
After getting the drone connected, you have to go through a vigorous calibration process that has you rotate the drone every which way. The app claims that you only need to do 2-3 rotations for each step, but I was doing as many as 5 or 6 without it letting me continue to the next screens.
Finally, you can start up the drone by angling the sticks on the controller at a specific set of angles. At this point, the drone may (or may not) choose to spin up its propellers.
I found this last bit to be extremely hit or miss. The drone would actually startup once every four attempts or so (an attempt being a full restart of both the drone and the controller and redoing the whole recalibration process).
The controls for maneuvering the drone are intuitive, and once you get the drone up in the air, it is quite responsive. I was particularly impressed by how well the drone hovered while I was testing it outside. I was able to maneuver the drone easily, and I entertained myself by flying circles around various obstacles.
Flying Indoors was another matter entirely though.
When attempting to fly the drone inside, it started to gently drift sideways while set to hover in place. After a few seconds of hovering, it suddenly surged across the room of its own volition.
To be fair, I don’t believe that this was necessarily the fault of the drone. I think that this may have been due to RF interference from all of the various devices that I have scattered throughout my house. As I mentioned earlier, my experience outside was excellent from a flight standpoint.
Despite going out of control and crashing, the drone looks to be completely unscathed. Again, I have to give this drone credit for durability if nothing else.
Based on my personal experience, I would advise against attempting to fly this drone indoors.
Camera quality is excellent with the drone sending a nice, clean image to the app. The app allows you to take still photos or videos. A memory card is needed for this though as the drone doesn't have built-in storage.
The app itself isn’t very good.
There are a few menu options which aren’t in English, and there are several misspelled words scattered throughout the app as well. The options and layout aren’t terribly intuitive, and I found it to be a bad experience overall.
Given the sheer number of issues that I encountered with this drone, and the inconsistency of its operation, I can’t recommend this product. Given my experiences while flying the drone outdoors, I think they’re on the right track to make a great product. That being said, I don’t think that their quality control process is quite there yet; and they should have held off a bit longer before releasing this.

Fantastic earbuds with great battery life
on December 13, 2022
Posted by: TechEnthusiast
I absolutely love these earbuds.
The earbuds come with several different sizes of ear tip to ensure a comfortable fit. The earbuds themselves are small and lightweight. I managed to wear them for a couple hours straight without experiencing any discomfort.
The charging case is a good size. It's not so small that you're going to easily lose it, but it's not so large as to be cumbersome. The case has just a single LED light on it to indicate charging status. The case comes with a built-in Tile tracker and can be found using the Tile app.
My one complaint about this product as a whole is that the charging contacts can be a little finicky. If you don't have them "just" right, then the earbuds could fail to charge. That being said, it should be noted that the earbuds seem to hold a charge for a good long time. I used these almost continuously for three hours in a coffee shop, and they kept going strong.
Sound quality is quite good. I've been using these primarily to play games and watch movies, and I don't have any complaints about the quality.
I quite enjoyed these earbuds and would recommend them to anyone looking for a compact set of earbuds that hold a decent charge.

Great device, but it takes awhile to work
on December 7, 2022
Posted by: TechEnthusiast
The SmoothSkin Pure is a convenient way to remove hair at home.
The device comes with a very long cord, a precision head attachment, and a soft storage bag.
Using the device is as simple as plugging it in, pressing it against the area to be treated, and pressing a button. The device does get quite warm with extended use.
The device should only be used once a week, and it takes several weeks for results to be seen. It's a little unclear just how dramatic said results are since you're supposed to shave the area prior to using the device on it. I'm not sure if I'm seeing less hair because of the SmoothSkin treatments or because I'm shaving the same spot once a week.
Still, I'm definitely seeing some kind of results as the hair is much less dense and seems to be growing back slower.
I have noticed that the head of the device is starting to show burn marks along the mirrored interior. This makes me worry some about the longevity of the device. With another few treatments, I'm hoping that I won't have to use it again for awhile.

Great software with some menu quirks
on December 2, 2022
Posted by: TechEnthusiast
I'm a longtime Photoshop user at work, and I've dabbled with video editing as a hobby for a few years now.
I wanted access to Photoshop's broad range of tools at home, but I couldn't afford to get saddled with a monthly membership fee. Elements is the perfect solution for me.
Installation was quick and easy, and the programs don't take up too much space on my harddrive.
The software is very intuitive. There are both beginner and expert modes for you to use depending on your skill level.
This version of Photoshop Elements had a bizarre little quirk on my computer. For some reason, the text in the dropdown menus was comically oversized. Forcing the scaling to 100% via the preferences screen reduced the text to a reasonable size, but now everything else is tiny. Trying to change the high DPI settings for the application within Windows didn't help with this either. I'm hoping that this will be fixed with a software update later. Premiere Elements didn't have this problem.
I really enjoy these programs, and I find that I can perform most tasks in them quite easily.
I definitely recommend these for anyone who wants to get into photo or video editing.

Comfortable headphones that last a long time
on November 16, 2022
Posted by: TechEnthusiast
I'm not usually a fan of over the ear headphones, I generally prefer earbuds, but I will admit to liking this pair quite a bit.
Sound quality is great. They do an excellent job of blocking out ambient noise (be careful jogging along the street with these). The battery seems to last a little bit of forever. I've charged them exactly once since getting them, and I've used them for several hours with the battery only dipping down a little bit.
Pairing with my phone was a little tricky.
It took several attempts to get these to connect, and they only want to reconnect when I have the Adidas app open.
I'm also not a huge fan of the button setup.
These headphones only have two buttons. The action button triggers a light meter that flashes circles and rings to show you how adequate the ambient light level is for charging. It can also be programmed within the app to do things like open your phone's digital assistant or open Spotify. The other button / switch is on the other ear piece and functions as a power button, play/pause button, call control and volume control.
I'm not thrilled that they crammed this many functions into a single button / switch. I personally would have preferred dedicated volume buttons.
The headphones are comfortable and fit well. I'd recommend them for anyone who spends a lot of time outdoors and can't easily charge on the go.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Cook up your favorites and then flip the oven up and away to reclaim your counter space.

What settings do you use to reheat on this? It seems to be missing the reheat and dehydrate functions. Are there manual work arounds for each?

Not all models include the reheat and dehydrate functions (though all models get the same instruction manual which causes some confusion).

Unfortunately, I haven't been able to find any manual workarounds for this.

Up to what distance it will detect Human detection only?

I don't know the "official" answer to this, but I have it aimed down a rather long driveway, and it only detects people about a 1/3 of the way down it. Past that, it doesn't trigger any notifications at all.

If I had to guess, I'd estimate that its range is somewhere around 15-20 feet.

Harness your PC's potential with the 980. Whether you need a boost for gaming or a seamless workflow for heavy graphics, the 980 is a smart choice for outstanding SSD performance — and it's all backed by an NVMe* interface and PCIe 3.0 technology.

Is this compatible with Acer nitro 5 gaming laptop?

I have one of the earliest models of the Nitro 5, and it installed in mine just fine. Couple warnings though: If you want to refresh your operating system after installing it (recommended to avoid hardware glitches), you'll need to remove any additional hard drives (otherwise it errors out). Another thing: after refreshing the operating system, it will only recognize the SSD until you install all of the Windows updates. After installing the updates, any secondary drives will show up again.

Pair Surface Go Type Cover with Surface Go* for a full keyboard experience anywhere. Ultra-compact, yet it includes a complete mechanical keyset, backlit keys, and extra-large trackpad. Plus, three colors are covered in rich Alcantara material¹ for an added touch of luxury and comfort.

What is the power source for the Microsoft Surface Go type cover?

The tablet itself powers the keyboard. The keyboard connects to the Surface Go via tiny pogo pins on the bottom of the tablet. These pins transmit both power and data. Because of this, the keyboard doesn't require any additional power source; and you don't have to play with Bluetooth settings or anything to pair the keyboard to the tablet.

Garmin Speak™ Plus with Amazon Alexa is what you love about Amazon Alexa, now in your vehicle. Use voice control for hands-free access to music, news, navigation and more. Plus, a built-in dash cam gives you forward collision and lane departure warnings.

How can dash cam footage be accessed? Is there cloud storage for the dashcam footage? If there's cloud storage, how much data/hour would the dashcam footage use? Alternatively, can video quality be adjusted to lower bandwidth usage?

Footage is stored on the micro-SD card inserted in the camera itself.

It can be accessed from the Speak app after you download the VIRB app. Note that while you need the VIRB app to access the footage, you can't view the photos directly from the VIRB app. You instead go back to the Speak app so that it can open the VIRB app and display the photos and videos (I know, it's an incredibly silly process).

If you try to open the VIRB app directly, it will tell you that it can't locate your camera.

Just got this. During initial setup it asked to update Windows so I did, and it said something on the laptop wasn't compatible with Windows so it couldn't update. Is that normal for a brand new laptop? Also it gets VERY hot in 10 minutes of just Facebook.

I had the same problem with heat when I first got this laptop. If you go to the Dell support site for this laptop, they have an automated system check and driver update that works wonders. I'll warn you that you will have to hunt a little on the site to find it. I'm afraid that Best Buy won't allow me to send you a link to the page.

After running it, my heat issue was fixed completely; and the laptop runs at a nice ambient temperature now.

I'm not sure why you got an error about something not being compatible with Windows update, but you might want to try running Dell's system check first and then try it again.
