The weBoost - Home Studio by Wilson Electronics is one of their latest signal boosters that works with all carriers and 5G. This version is designed for large rooms /studio apartments ( at least in terms of size.) weBoost uses the same basic premise - an outside antenna that does not require any power that is connected via cable coaxial to a relatively unobtrusive inside antenna . The main antenna mounts to a poll outside. I live in an apartment and it fit perfectly on a terrace poll. When you first install the outside antenna, you should not tighten it completely because you will need to rotate it in the direction of nearest cell tower. I used the recommended app Opensignal to find the direction the cell tower. It worked perfectly and I was able to align the antenna relatively fast. I did not initially read the directions thoroughly enough and it states to only rotate the antenna an 1/8 of an inch at a time. I was moving it way too much and it was making the signal worse. Setting the antenna on the outside is the most important step and try trickiest. All told, it took me about an hour to install and configure everything. Unfortunately, I had to make it a temporary installation because I could not route the coaxial cable without cutting into a wall and ceiling. Because I live in an apartment, I am not permitted to do that. I could not route it through a window like some of the other kits because weBoost did not include a window entry cable. It is simply a flat cable that lets you connect two traditional sized cables through the bottom of the window. I cannot understand why they would not include this adapter when they include 60 feet of traditional cable. Very disappointing. I plan to order the window entry cable at a later time. This product was sent to me for no charge to review so that is why I am reviewing without the cable.
There are not a lot of reviews for the weBoost - Home Studio but there are reviews of similar models. You will see there are some who had difficulty setting the antenna in the right spot for a signal increase. I really did not have any major issues in getting a better signal. My signal went from 2 to 3 bars to a consistent 5 bars. To be fair, I live in an area where there are a lot of cell towers and I have a direct line of sight to one. Your mileage may vary in that regard. One thing that is important to keep in mind, this is not going to cure for very weak signal strength. It will make it stronger but the weBoost - Home Studio needs something to work with.
I like the weBoost - Home Studio overall but it does fall short by not including a simple window cable adapter. At a high price of $350, this should have included everything needed for an install. I still recommend it as I think Wilson Electronics makes the best signal boosters around.

You won't feel blue going with the Blueair 7470i

The first thing to consider for indoor air quality products like these is understanding the difference between air purifiers and air cleaners. Air cleaners remove particle and pollutants from from the air but do not inactivate/kill pathogens whereas air purifiers both clean the air and sanitize the air using some type of additional function (UV lights, electricity etc.) The Blueair - HealthProtect 7470i falls under the air purifier category. Let’s take a look at the setup , features, functions , strengths and weaknesses:
Setup –
Scan the QR code, download the app and connect the air purifier. I’ve seen a few reviews that people had some difficulty with setting up, but I had none. The whole process only took a few minutes.
App –
The app is everything in control and sensors. It tells you temperature, humidity and pollutants. You can control fan speed, automatic control and you can even turn off the LED panel ( great feature if you have the air purifier in a bedroom.)
I did run into in terms of integration. The Blueair - HealthProtect 7470i is advertised to work with both Alexa and Google Assistant. No matter what I tried, there was no option for in the Blue Air app nor in the Google Home app. After going back and forth with BlueAir customer service team, I requested it to be escalated because I could not get answer to the problem. Finally, it was determined there is a problem in the US with integrating with the Google Assistant.
Air changes –
Filters the air at a rate of about 5 changes an hour in a 418 ft² room. This is important measure, pollutants can enter the air from a myriad of sources and time frames. The higher the exchange the better.
Air purification –
Although it is impossible for a user to measure this, Blueair claims to “remove 99.97% of viruses and bacteria,³ dust, pollen, dander and mold,⁴ and traps VOC and odors. Once caught in the filter, this unique technology then kills 99%⁵ of germs.” What I can say is the wedge design of the air filter and overall filter quality looks like it should do a good job. The wedge design gives it a larger surface area in small area. I ran the unit for approximately two weeks and took the filter out and shook it over white paper. While my apartment is very clean and I do run other air purifiers, the Blueair removed a decent amount of particles based on what dropped on the paper.
Sound –
Very, very quiet. The decibel rating is 25 DB to 53 DB. To give you a reference point, 53 DB is about the same level as normal conversation and 25 DB is a whisper. Now there are a lot of factors that come into determine the overall sound - how far away are you, the room structure, what is the octave band of the sound etc. Trust me, it is quiet.
In summary, I like the Blueair - HealthProtect 7470i. It is well built and feature rich. It is not as industrial looking at some of the other Blueair products (I think some of them look dated.) I have seen some complaints that it is large. That is a matter of perspective, it is bit taller than average (27 inches) but only has a 1 foot by 1 foot. It fit easier than the Levoit it replaced. It should be noted that there is a lot of marketing leeway on what a purifier actually does. This only cleans the air stream that is going into the unit. It is not going to do anything for germs that someone is breathing out that is near you (unless you strap the air cleaner to your face. ) The 7470i is a bit on the expensive side at $640 but the quality is definitely there and in line with the better air purifiers.
The Blueair - HealthProtect 7470i comes in at 4 out of 5 stars. It could have been 5 stars if the price was a bit lower and erroneous advertisement of that it works with the Google Assistant. Regardless, I recommend this air purifier for quality, sound and function.

Good bang for the buck and Epson precision.

If you have a need for document scanning, you cannot go wrong with sheet fed scanner. In fact, once you start using a sheet fed documents scanner, you will not want to go back to a flatbed scanner. This holds true of the Epson WorkForce ES-400 II. It takes up far less space than a flatbed ( this is only 11 inches by 7 inches) and offers greater performance than most , if not all, flatbeds in the same price range. If you look at the specifications, you will see it can scan 35 PPM (pages per minute) of 70 IPM (images per minute.) The IPM reflects that the ES-400 II scans both sides of the document at the same time. To be honest, the scanner is so fast that it seems even faster. I have a Fujitsu from 10 years ago and it was one of the best at the time, the Epson WorkForce ES-400 II blows it away. Let’s take a look at basics -
Installation :
First, read the instructions. I didn’t and just plugged it in. It looked like the scanner installed but it could not find the drivers. The instructions clearly state you need to download the software first so I uninstalled the scanner and followed the instructions. No issues after that, it was up and running in 5 minutes.
Features :
Auto document feeder, easy to use controls, includes USB cable, solid weight and good fit and finish.
Performance :
As I stated this scanner is really fast. I think anything over 30 PPM is not noticeable for everyday use. The paper did jam once because the paper was folded at one time. The jam is easily accessible through the front of the unit. The WorkForce ES-400 II is also relatively quiet.
Software –
The Epson SmartScan software is adequate and does the job. You can scan directly to the full Microsoft Office suite as well as Dropbox and other services. For some reason , I could never get the scan directly email to work no matter what I tried ( I am using the current version of Outlook.)
In conclusion, I really like the scanner. At first I was disappointed that it was not the upgraded wireless version but I quickly found that wireless really is not necessary for my needs. For the savings, I would stick with the USB version. Overall, I really like the WorkForce ES-400 II. It does what it says and the price is right. It will be bargain when it goes on sale. It does take a knock because I could not get it to scan directly to Outlook. I realize that is probably a configuration error but there is really nothing I could find in Epson support to figure out what the issue is. I do have other scanners that work fine with Outlook. Regardless, that is minor since it automatically saves the file and I can easily attach it to an email.
Recommend – good bang for the buck and Epson precision.

Another great Brydge product.

This is 5th Brydge keyboard I have owned, the 3rd iteration for the Surface Pro 4. All the Brydge products have been top notch – good quality, well thought out and ergonomic. However, the latest version Brydge - 12.3 Pro+ wireless keyboard does take a step back from the prior version in a few areas (and some steps forward.) First, it is a good keyboard. Far better than the OEM Surface Pro keyboard. What I like about the all the Brydge keyboards, the tactile feel and experience of the keys. In this latest version, the keys are even better, albeit slightly, than the prior version. Travel is good with the keys offering just the right resistance. One of the problems with OEM keyboards is the total lack of resistance and limited key travel – something you will find is not an issue with the Brydge Pro keyboards. The biggest improvement was the large track pad, far larger than prior versions. I do find it a far easier to use and the pad seems more responsive. So far, these are all positives and I mentioned earlier that this keyboard is a step back. Two things that really stand out as steps back compared to prior Brydge Pro keyboards – the hinge and partial plastic construction. There is nothing wrong with plastic, it is strong and lightweight. The prior version I have is all aluminum. It is heavier and thicker but I find it more premium looking and a bit more stable as I am typing ( less flex.) The hinge, while still good, seems less robust and smaller than prior versions. I did not have any issues but I can see some differences and the older version was a tighter fit.
So , the all important question of would I recommend the current version of the Brydge - 12.3 Pro+ wireless keyboard? Absolutely. It is a great keyboard. The track pad is great and the keys give a much better experience than the OEM keys. I would have liked for Brydge to stick with the all-aluminum contruction of the prior version but if I had to buy latest keyboard for my Surface, it would be this one.

A lot of bang for your buck.

I have owned and reviewed a lot of Bluetooth speakers over the years. Today’s Bluetooth speakers have many, if not more , features than the speakers of 6 years ago but at a significantly lower price. The Soundcore - Rave Neo Bluetooth Speaker holds true of that statement. At $99 you get a lot for your money – waterproof ( it is IPX7 build and can be submerged in water,) decent build quality, high power, strong bass, linkable to other Soundcore speakers, LED lights ( which I hate on all speakers,) external USB device charging and connection to a USB storage device. Frankly, it is ridiculous how much you get for our money. Let’s take look at the pros and cons :
Pros -
The sound is very powerful and relatively clear. It is not as good as some of the big boys but I think you would have to spend twice the amount.
The battery life is crazy. It is rated at 18 hours but I have been using is every day for over a week. I am at about 8 hours of use and the battery indicator is at 75 percent. I’m not running it at full blast and I am confident I will hit well over 18 hours of use.
Easy carry handle.
Only $99 .
Use it like a power bank - charge up your phone. Soundcore is actually Anker, one of the biggest names for years in the power bank arena.
Cons –
Heavy – well, it is brick. Actually an extra large brick. Not that you are going to move it around much, but it does weigh 7 lbs. That is what happens when you put a huge battery in it.
The handle connections are cheap plastic, I can see it breaking and no easy way to repair.
The LED lights. I’ve said it before, people do not care about LED lights. Yes, young people may be enamored by it for a few minutes but the money is better spent in making speakers more durable.
As you can see, there are not any significant cons. It may not be the best in the individual categories for rating a Bluetooth speaker but it does just about everything well. The Soundcore - Rave Neo is a fantastic deal at $99 that offers lot of sound for little money. Recommend.

Like myself, this offers a lot in a small package.
on November 27, 2020

from Farmingdale, NY
First, this is ridiculous. Ridiculous in a good way. I cannot believe the clarity of picture of the Epson EpiqVision Mini EF12 Smart Streaming Laser Projector with HDR and Android TV. At less than a 7 inch cube, it can project a relatively bright and clear picture up to 150 inches. I was not able to test it at max but I was able to run it about 100 inches. I was shocked at how clear the picture was on a light beige wall and I can only imagine how good it would be on a screen. Colors were crisp, lines were clear and the pixels were only evident if you got up close (remember this is over an 8 foot picture.) Contrast is pretty good with the darks and whites appearing to mostly pop. I did notice some type of blooming on the edges of the blacks. Now blooming should not be possible on a laser projector in the same way as a television but the effect was the same. Basically, I could see a bit of halo around the blacks in the picture. It was not overwhelming, and you would never notice it during most media. It was only evident on a relatively static image with lots of black around the edges. Set up was very easy, as with all Android devices these days. It will ask you the set up from your Google account, verify a code and import your passwords. Once set up it runs a few updates with one being a firmware update. I started to get alarmed during the firmware update, the update absolutely blasts the fan. When I say blasts, I am talking extremely loud - nearly the loudest I have heard on a modern projector and far more than a desktop PC. However, it calmed down after the update and I was not able to replicate the sound after running it for a while. When it is running in normal projection mode, it is far more reserved and barely noticeable if you have the sound on. Let’s look at a summarization of the features, functions, pros and cons:
- Android TV interface to stream directly from apps and Chromecast built-in. It appears to be an older version of Android as I could not get Netflix to work. The voice assistant works great on Youtube.
- The interface is responsive with minimal latency.
- Autofocus seems to work pretty well. It projects a series of dots and changes the focus. When you move the projector, it refocuses.
- Since it is a projector, you will see the picture at virtually any angle.
- The sound is loud for its size, good enough to watch movies or Youtube. Keep in mind this is small
package so the sound is not going to have a lot depth. Still very good for a portable unit.
- Automatically adjusts vertical and horizontal keystone but you can manually adjust it yourself.
- Plenty of connects – one USB and two HDMI. One of the HDMI is ARC. WIFI and Bluetooth.
- The projector has two legs in the back and on in the center front that adjusts the height. I understand why Epson went with this design, but I do not like it because it wobbles when you touch it. All they had to do was make the legs splay out larger and it would have been much better.
In summary, I’ve own a series of projectors from the last few year and none can give the bang for the buck that the EpiqVision Mini EF12. It is not as bright on some of he higher end Epson’s but it still does the job in a dimly lit room or outdoors. If it was a full-size projector, it would be 3 to 4 stars. However, since it crams so much technology into such a small package – I have to give it perfect 5 stars.
Great job Epson. Completely recommend.

Contains Anova goodness
on November 22, 2020
Posted by: TechnicallyCorrect
from Farmingdale, NY
When I purchased Anova Precision Cooker Pro, I decided to buy into the entire Anova ecosystem - cooker, vacuum sealer and container. For the latter container, it was the expensive Anova Precision Cooker Insulated Container. That container was the best there was on the market and was by far the best quality. But it was a mistake, it was a gigantic tank at 20 liters. When Bestbuy offered me to review the Anova Precision 12L Container, I was happy to have a smaller container to try out; particular one that is made by Anova. The 12 L is just the perfect size. The container is compact, well thought out and light weight. In review :
Pros –
Compact size
Handles built into the plastic (competition does not always have that and it is great if you have move the container after you have added water.)
Specifically designed for sous vide. Many of the competition is containers adapted for sous vide.
Includes top cover to mitigate evaporation.
Can be used for multiple brands – not just Anova.
Rack that keeps food from floating above the water line.
Cons-
Polycarbonate has questionable durability. Plastic could be thicker.
Becomes unstable if you have an Anova Pro Cooker in the container without water. Not that you would always do this but I like to keep my cooker on the container in between use.
No true track that keeps food stable . At this cost, I would expected it to come with a weighted rack.
Expensive for what you get. Think about this, this container is $60. You can get a nice new Anova cooker for $100 ( on sale.)
So would I recommend the Anova Precision 12L Container? Yes. Am I overly thrilled? No. Anova could have include a better rack and the competition is half the cost for something similar. Cost is not everything, I am a big proponent of an ecosystem when getting quality product. Right now, you could go on Anova for Black Friday sales and they have their top of the line Cooker Pro for 50% off. To add a container for $60 and take advantage of the free shipping is worth it. A note on Anova, every product I have bought from them has been top notch quality. That alone gets them an extra star on the rating.

Pass- terms of conditions make it not worth it
on November 17, 2020
Posted by: TechnicallyCorrect
from Farmingdale, NY
I own or have owned several home security systems – Simplisafe, Smartthings, Ecobee and various sensors from other manufacturers. The Blue by ADT - Home Security System comes with 6 sensors and 1 motion sensor. How that adds up to 10 piece starter system is marketing nonsense – they include the yard sign and the stickers as pieces. Regardless, you do get a lot or money for a starter kit. I see this kit on sale for $225 , better than most of the competition. In review :
What I like :
Installation –
ADT nailed it for the set up . Everything is already “linked” for lack of a better word. First you set up an account, download the app and then connect the base station through a code. The entry and motion sensors were a snap to set up , take the battery tab out and it basically pairs itself. There are a few firmware updates but the process is seamless. This is on par with most of top brands today while having an advantage over the Samsung Smarththings.
Integration-
Google, IFTTT, Alexa, Zwave, Wifi and cellular. Covers every base – very robust.
Quality –
The sensors and base station are solid. You can definitely feel the quality of the sensors, better than Samsung. The motion sensor is very accurate and has good field of sensitivity. When compared to Ecobee, it is far superior. The field of sensitivity is also better by far than the Samsung.
What I do not like:
Sensor size- the sensors are significantly larger than the competitor. In fact, the motion sensor is 3 times the size of the Samsung and Aeotec sensors. While I realize that the sensor does have a better field of sensitivity, it is still does not make sense for the gigantic size.
App when arming – when you arm the system via an Android mobile device, it counts for 60 seconds. The problem is you get a notification every second until it reaches zero. In other words, you get 60 notification sounds as it counts down. Ugghh.
$20 monitoring fee. In today’s day and age, do you really need a company to contact the police or fire department. Some people think it is worth it, I do not. I did not sign up for the service, even with a month free. There were other reasons for that as well and I will outline that below.
What’s deal breaker –
Putting all the above aside, there is a reason I would not buy this product – the terms of conditions. I want you to read this excerpt from the terms and conditions and tell me how secure you feel with ADT? This is supposed to be a company that stands behind you for security –

So if you made it way through this wall of legalese, ADT is basically washing their hands of any liability as much as they can and trying to limit your rights. Further, ADT states that you except these terms of conditions just by buying the system ( which I nonsense.) For this reason alone, I cannot recommend buying this system from ADT. I know all companies protect themselves as much as possible with “terms and conditions” but this is supposed to be security company. If they had that much faith in their product they would not be limiting themselves. They are supposed to be protecting you – how protected do you feel after reading the above.
Hard pass and I do not recommend this product.

The Roccat Kone AIMO is not lamo.........

The Roccat - Kone AIMO Wired Optical Gaming Mouse is one of a myriad of gaming mice on the market. There are so many that it is hard to stand out and really all them are in the same price range are very comparable in features. What is important is the overall ergonomics - how it feels and how easy does it function -
Size –
This mouse is a bit on the larger size with it being taller and longer than I really like. I found the angle it put my wrist was uncomfortable after a few minutes. This was mitigated when I used a wrist pad but I really prefer not to use one. I think people with larger hands will not find this to be as much as an issue.
Buttons –
Like just about all the better gaming mice, the buttons are responsive and have a nice feel to them. The side buttons are a bit awkwardly spaced but that is a matter of preferences.
Scroll wheel –
Accurate, responsive and an exceptionally good tactile feel. I hate the loose scroll wheels on some of the competition, the Roccat nails the balance of the correct amount of resistance.
Movement –
The glide pads on the button of mouse make it easy to move around and no mouse pad is needed.
Roccat pays attention to the little details like the feel of the plastic, the braided USB cord and the right balance and weight. I like the Roccat – Kone, it seems to hit all the marks except it is a bit large for me. The size is more of a preference, I could see how it would not bother most people. If you noticed, I did not mention the RGB lights. As I have said in countless other reviews, who cares about the shiny lights - form and function over the marketing glitz. This mouse has good form and function.

Not a standout, there is better for the same money

I guess the most important thing to remember is this is a $70 pair of headphones. The Roccat Elo 7.1 USB RGB PC Gaming Headset budget headset geared to those enamored with shiny lights over performance. While the headset is relatively comfortable, I ran into several performance issues. The overall sound does not stand out and surround sound is mediocre at best. It seemed almost like the volume was not loud enough even though I had it at a reasonable level. The microphone is clear (as far I could tell by asking the person on the other end) but could benefit with some noise cancellation. The build is almost all plastic and what you would expect in this price range.
In conclusion, there is a myriad of lower tier headphones. The Roccat Elo does not really stand out from any of the pack.TO me, the Corsair and the Turtle Beach sound better in this price range. It is not that this is a terrible headset, I just think you get better for the same price from the competition. The only thing I could say is in Roccat’s favor is they could compete on a price point if this goes on sale for $50 or less.

can I watch tv and see the person I am talking too on the tv?

Maybe, but it is not a function that is built into the device. You have to connect this to a dedicated HDMI port. Theoretically, if your TV had picture in picture ; you could display two video sources.

Would this be a good choice for getting my hurricane shutters up in the event of a power outage?

In most cases, I would not recommend this product for that application. There are far too many variables in terms of power consumption and compatibility with whatever type of hurricane shutters you may have. I would recommend talking to a professional installer to get options.
