Great Printer
on September 19, 2021

This is a great printer. I'm using it in a single office setting and it is just what I needed.
Setup takes longer than most printers but that is due to the ink bottles and not just snapping cartridges in. It is easy to do but just takes some time to set everything up. Filling up the ink tanks works smoothly and is a very nice solution to the annoying cartridge problem. The ink bottles that come with the printer are enough to top off the color ink tanks after the printer has primed the print heads. The black did not quite fill the tank back up but did come close. And the amount the tank holds is way more than cartridges so I'm guessing they will last for a long time.
The printing is crisp and clean. It's not the fastest printer I've had but it is more than quick enough for whatever you'd be using it for. The scanner is nicely laid out and very easy to use. Having the flatbed or ADF is very nice and convenient. The ADF system also locks itself into a flat surface on the top of the printer if you close it which is very nice if you want to set things on the printer. I don't think it has a multipurpose tray so if you change paper sizes a lot it is not convenient. The paper tray holds plenty that you won't be refilling it often.
The software from Epson is also very intuitive and easy to navigate. It's scanning software is easy to setup and saves quickly.
Overall I would highly recommend this printer. It's well designed, made and performs perfectly.

Linksys Atlas Pro 6 with Velop Intelligent Mesh is a dual-band router that delivers next-level streaming and gaming to more than 30 devices per node. Access to 160 MHz unleashes the true power of Wi-Fi 6 technology—these are the least congested channels available on the 5GHz band and offer incredibly fast connectivity. Dynamic Frequency Selection (DFS) provides access to more channels, reducing interference from neighboring networks. Velop Intelligent Mesh technology offers whole home coverage that’s easily expandable by adding additional nodes. With easy setup, advanced security and parental controls, Linksys Atlas Pro 6 is an essential upgrade to any home.

Absolutely great WIFI system
on August 24, 2021

I'm replacing a current Linksys router that I was not happy with at all. It honestly made me question Linksys current routers. I've owned countless Linksys routers for the last couple decades and I always considered them to be a top brand. This router has definitely brought them back to the top in my experience.
To start with this router is really easy to set up. Out of the box the physical routers are just a power plug and the white router. Install the first one by plugging it into the modem. Then activate it using the Linksys app. It takes about 5 minutes to completely set up the device through the bluetooth connection but it's seamless and worked the first time. After that you can add on as many 'child' routers as you want (child is Linksys term, could be called range extender).
The programming is pretty straight forward. It is nice they give you the option to have the 2.4 and 5 Wifi signals named the same and the system will automatically switch devices to the strongest router signal, very similar to how cell phones have worked for decades. I changed my 2.4 password to a different name so I wouldn't have to reprogram all my 2.4 only devices but will probably update them over time to the new name. I could not get the name change through the app though, I was only able to find it on the computer browser page.
Signal strength is great. I connected the 2 additional child routers wirelessly to see how the speed was. I wasn't able to notice any speed degradation from the furthest router that was bouncing off the middle router. I'm only running a couple devices at a time though so you might notice a speed dip if you have several devices using a lot of bandwidth off the same router. They also give you the option to hardwire between nodes, which I'll plan to do when I finish my basement and I'll update the review when I can compare speeds between wireless and wired connections.
Each node also acts as a wired router to some extent. All the nodes have 3 ethernet ports that you can use to hardwire devices to directly if you like the more stable connection or not taking up wireless bandwidth for close devices.
Aesthetically the routers look very nice. If you wanted them sitting out in plain sight they are not obtrusive at all. They are larger then the older smart speakers but I do not think they would be any more noticeable.
Overall I highly recommend this system. I now have at least 3 bars throughout my entire property (1/3 acre, nodes on each end of basement and one in garage). Setup is great, system works flawlessly and I saw a great wireless speed increase over my couple year old system (Wifi 6 devices were much much faster but even the older devices had faster speeds). Linksys has a great product here and the system being able to expand endlessly is nice peace of mind.

Awesome all around laptop
on August 8, 2021
Posted by: Josh454
from Lisle, IL
This laptop is my favorite that I've ever used.
I've had countless laptops over the years, everything from the old 'desktop equivalents' to 10" ultra compact units. This laptop is the most balanced and useable I've ever come across.
I really don't have anything bad to say bout this laptop. That doesn't happen often as there is normally some corner cut or design detail that just isn't a preference choice. The only thing I would warn people of is the lack of port options. There are 3 USBc ports. I'm all for USBc and hope it lives up to it's potential but for the next few years I'm going to be carrying around the dongle (included with this laptop) that converts a USB-c port to HDMI and USBa. I'm still transitioning to the USBc myself so I still have USBa devices. That's really the only thing about this laptop I don't love is only USBc ports might be a little early.
Other than that the screen is awesome. It's only FHD but the colors are very vibrant, brightness is great and the refresh is perfectly fine for everything I used. The other thing I love is the 16:10 screen. I hope this catches on as I feel they are much more useable than the 16:9 screens. I was limited to running 2 displays through my usual desktop setup. I'm not sure if that a hardware limit or a setting I haven't found but I haven't spent much time trying to activate the 3rd screen. (I used the included USBa-HDMI adapter and a USBc docking station that has an HDMI port and power pass through. Power pass through worked fine also in this setup but the display would not allow 3 independent screens, 2 had to be duplicated and 1 was extended desktop)
The battery will run all day. I ran video for an entire day before the battery got low. It charges quickly and from any of the USBc ports. It was also able to charge from my USBc battery bank (slow charge but enough to hold the battery level while in use).
The SSD is lightning quick a good capacity. The 3050ti discrete video is great. It'll take a little checking to make sure the laptop is using the 3050ti and not the Intel integrated graphics but once I adjusted a few settings it switched to the discrete 3050ti when I wanted it to. (By default it used the integrated graphics more than I liked as a battery saving feature. I generally don't use laptops for long periods away from the charger so I prefer performance over battery life). The fan is also not annoyingly loud when pushing the performance full bore. It is noticeable but quieter than I expected when I saw the hardware this laptop has. I ran several newer games and they performed great. Nothing that is cutting edge and overly video intensive but this laptop should be able to run any current game available with respectable FPS.
The keyboard and mouse work just how you expect. No bad surprises. I like the soft quiet feel of they keyboard and the mouse is smooth and predictable. The sound is also very good. The laptop does not have a 10-key pad but uses the space for speaker grills down the sides of the keyboard which gives a good full stereo experience. The colors are also very nice. The silver outside is standard but the dark interior is a nice change and seems like it will hold up well. It also comes in a very nice box that was just a nice extra touch.
Dell has definitely designed an amazing laptop here. It is well worth the money and I cannot recommend it highly enough.

Another great Shark vacuum held back by the App
on July 1, 2021
Posted by: Josh454
from Lisle, IL
I really want to love this Shark vacuum but the programming problems are just annoying enough to make me question.
I finally have the vacuum working well in the house. It has been several weeks now but it's learning the floorplan and cleaning well.

It started on a bad foot with taking over a week and about 20 times trying to connect the robot to WiFi and the app on my phone. I updated the app several times over that week hoping it would fix it. I don't know if it was an app update or just dumb luck that it connected finally but nothing else changed. After it connected it has worked pretty well. There are settings that you can adjust. Our first floor is about 1100 sq ft. For that amount of space it seems best not to have recharge & continue turned on. If it's on it seems to go back to the dock with about 30% battery and recharge for several hours, when if it's off it seems to finish fine with that final 30%. It also has an option to empty the robot every half hour. That works well if the floors are really dirty or the vacuum is located in the middle of the floorplan. Mine is on the end of the house so it takes time and battery to go back and forth. The self-emptying is a great feature. It works great and makes it so much easier to maintain. The scheduling is convenient and makes cleaning easy, as well as the quiet times that lock the robot out from making noise.
For the downsides:
- The robot took forever to connect to the app and wifi. It was very annoying to have to try so many times and have it think for 5 minutes only to say there was a problem, reset everything and try again.
- The app still loses connection to the robot every so often and doesn't show the correct information. It will show the robot as cleaning while it's been sitting on the dock for days, so you have to cancel the cleaning before you can tell it to start cleaning. (All of this is while the robot is within 20' of the router so it's not a weak signal.)
- Hopefully it's still learning but it has gotten stuck a couple times on an awkward transition between carpet and hardwood with a furniture leg close. It tries to go to far and can't get back up on the carpet, but hopefully it will continue to learn and avoid that.
Overall the robot hardware works well. It cleans well, picks up everything I would expect it to. It cleans with a good pattern so it gets everything in the room. The programming on the app is lacking and hopefully they will continue to fine tune and fix the disconnecting problems and this would be a great robot.

Works great for newborns

These nail clippers work great for newborns. The guard is a nice safety feature. Once the fingers are a little bigger they still work fine but the guard is a little big to be able to see clearly and make sure you're getting the cut you want while they are moving around more. They are good and sharp and cut the nail very cleanly though which is better than most baby clippers we've used.
I would definitely recommend these clippers for a baby. There is a little learning curve from the guard but they work great once you're used to them.

Great travel laptop

The Dell 2-in-1 laptop is a great all around laptop. I have a couple laptops and this 14" Dell is very convenient to carry around and still plenty of screen to work off of.
The battery is good, not the longest lasting but will go for several hours of video. The keyboard has a good feel and is responsive. The brightness is good, you can't use it outside but in shade or anywhere indoors it works great. The touchpad is very good also, I didn't have the normal annoying gesture recognition or flying mouse, it was just very consistent which is nice for a Windows laptop.
The AMD chip seems plenty strong to run anything you'd want. The integrated graphics are lacking though. You definitely can't game on this laptop, but for video streaming or other normal uses it's more than enough.
The USB-C was full function also. I was able to run a dual monitor setup off the laptop and it handled it perfectly. I had a USB-C dock that charged the laptop and ran 1 monitor and plugged a monitor into the laptop HDMI and it recognized both immediately while still charging the laptop. So this would be a great laptop if you intend on having a desktop workstation with monitors but still want something small enough to slip into a bag.
Overall this laptop was everything I could have asked for. It did everything I had hoped and the dark gray color is a very nice touch also, it stands out against the silver and white options that are everywhere.
I would definitely recommend this laptop to anyone looking to upgrade.

Nice watch for average use
on May 17, 2021
Posted by: Josh454
from Lisle, IL
The Fossil Gen 5 watch is a nicely made, good looking smartwatch. I have had a number of normal fossil watches over the years and it feels similar and with the correct face it looks very similar to several I have.
The WearOS is definitely the week point of the watch. It works well enough but is missing the nice extras of the other major smartwatch OS. It does a good job of notifications, calls and some apps. There were several apps I was hoping would be useable over the watch but they do not have the option. The WearOS problems are easy to find online and hopefully they'll be fixed through future updates so it doesn't really need to be reviewed.
The watch itself is well made. It has switchable bands which is a nice option. The screen is bright enough for use outside, has a very responsive touch and is tough. I've accidentally smacked the face on different things a number of times and it did not scratch or deform at all. The hardwire buttons work well and are easy to customize. The battery lasts for a little longer than a day without the eSIM active, but it is on so I don't know that it will change battery life much.
Verizon was not helpful in getting the watch connected to the network. I'm still trying to active the eSIM and will update the review when I do. the watch works well when connected to the phone.
Hopefully WearOS can improve and this watch will be great, right now I'd say it's good and worth it if you are looking for an Android watch.

Great 4k disk player
on April 15, 2021
Posted by: Josh454
from Lisle, IL
This player is everything I wanted in a 4k UltraHD disk player. I previously had a X800 model from Sony and to me this is just as good and a much smaller package.
My system consists of a LG OLED tv running through a Sony 4k receiver. Setup was quick and easy, plug in a few cables, select languages and enter your WIFI password (there is also a wired ethernet port). The video is crystal clear even on the action scenes. The audio is great. The apps are quick and responsive, although there are not that many of them but noone is using this as their main smart system. The remote is smaller and more comfortable than Sony's old remotes and very well laid out. It played 4k from disk and streaming well, although there is no comparison between the 2, disk is far and away the best way to watch 4k.
I am very happy with this player and would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a 4k disk player.

I've been using this for a while and it has saved time, gotten me more organized and made tracking receipts much easier.
The wireless option is great and I would definitely recommend it. Being able to put it in a drawer or cabinet is nice to keep the desk clean. The scanner works great, it's quick and quite. It was very easy to set up and sync to the computer. The program is straight forward and easy to learn. The only problem I've had is the OCR can pull some pretty crazy names for the store and a couple other categories so you need to double check the information while reviewing. It's really not much worse than my previous tracking through Quickbooks online and includes a lot more information so it's easier to track things.
I would definitely recommend this to someone who is looking to streamline their expenses for personal or business. The hardware is great and the software is easy to use.

Great all in 1 4k option
on February 11, 2021
Posted by: Josh454
from Lisle, IL
I've had this screen for a couple weeks and it was exactly what I was looking for, which I didn't think anyone would ever make.
I wanted a small 4k screen with a remote that could double as a TV. This is exactly what I wanted. The only small screens you can get are 'monitors' which means no remote control and you would need a computer or streaming device to use them. 4k TV's don't get smaller than 40" which is to much for a lot of situations. This smart monitor give you the best of both worlds.
Pros:
- All of Samsung apps
- Remote controls is smooth and intuitive
- Great 4k resolution
- Nice looking bezel and screen, pretty light and easy to mount on a monitor arm
- USB-C is awesome. When using this as a 2nd monitor on the laptop it only takes 2 cords. 1 power cord from wall to monitor, 1 usb-c cable from monitor to laptop. It carries the 4k signal from laptop to monitor and also keep the laptop charged.
- Plenty of other ports for everything you could want
Cons:
- 2 little corner of the bezel on the bottom were cracked when I received it. I don't care because you cannot see them and would never know but hopefully they can work on packaging a little
- The brightness is not equivalent to a TV. It is much closer to a monitor. It works fine but when using it as a TV in a bright room you do notice it is not as vibrant as what most people are used to. That being said it is still bright enough to not be a problem.
Overall I could highly recommend this if you are looking for a 4k TV/monitor setup. I have not found anything equivalent to it and am very glad someone makes a 1 stop solution for this situation.

Is this robot smart enough not to fall down stairs

Yes it will not fall down stairs. There are a couple warnings in the manual about not having carpet runners at the top of wood stairs and such where apparently the robot can get confused and risk falling. But I have not had a problem, it cleans up the the edge of steps on hard surfaces and does not risk falling.

Does this have a home mapping and room by room cleaning feature?

It seems to map the floorplan as it goes but it is not a map you can see, adjust or label. From what I can tell it is stored in the robot and just used to fine tune the cleaning runs.
As for room-by-room cleaning it does not have that feature. It is just whole house cleaning or nothing (unless you can close doors or block the robot with the boundary strips to keep it out of certain areas.

Shark VACMOP Pro cordless hard floor system uses an innovative all-in-one disposable pad to vacuum and lock away debris other pads push around, and to spray mop tough messes. Pick up dry debris, then spray mop, and toss the pad with one click–never touch a dirty pad again! Features LED headlights, charger, 2 disposable pads, and a 12-oz. bottle of Shark VACMOP Multi-Surface Cleaner.

How many times can you use the pad before throwing it away?

Depends on how wet it gets. I've stored them being only slightly wet and it did fine. If it gets saturated I'd throw it out and start fresh. I think when I checked pads were less than $1 so I don't know that it's worth trying to stretch them out to long.

What is a magnetic charger? How long does it hold a charge?

Magnetic charger just means it does not have exposed plugs you have to plug in. There is a wall plug like a phone charger, then the other end of the cord is a small appx 1.5" disk that has a magnet built in. You put that against the back charging area of the vacuum and it automatically sticks to the vacuum and charges without having to 'plug' into the vacuum. The advantage is if you forget to 'unplug' before grabbing the vacuum the disk will just pull off, no harm done.
I can't attest to how long a charge will last. I've used it for over half an hour with spraying and vacuuming and it's not giving any indication it needs charged again. The LED on the front will flash different times to show when it's getting low and needs charged.
Hope this helps.

They recommend you throw it away after every use. The instructions say to store the vacuum without a pad on it. I have stored it for a couple nights with a slightly wet pad and used it again and it did fine. If the pad was overly wet I would dispose of it before letting it sit.

Call friends, get online and play apps with this Moto Z Force Droid smartphone. It’s designed around Moto Mods, interchangeable backs that snap onto your smartphone, instantly transforming it into a movie projector, boombox, battery powerhouse, and more. A capacitive touch screen and 16 million colors ensure a brilliant display that reacts smoothly, and Corning Gorilla Glass protects against shattering or scrapes when the phone is dropped. You can use this Moto Z Force Droid smartphone with its Android Marshmallow operating system to run Google apps.

Does this also come with the free upgrade and free activation that Verizon is offering through their website?

I didn't get free activation although it was a better deal if you pre-ordered through Best Buy than VZW. Not sure if it is now that its normal purchase though.

Does this phone have wireless charging?

No not built in. You can essentially add it though through the Incipio, Tumi or Kate Spade battery mods that have wireless charging though.

It doesn't mention that the screen is shatterproof like the ones Verizon has, is it? Because that's the main reason I'm interested

All Moto Z Droid Force have unbreakable screen from what I understand.

All Moto Z Droids have normal screens.

Can someone who owns this phone let me know how the screen is outdoors? Is it bright enough to see well outdoors?

I came from a Droid Maxx if that helps but the Moto Z Force has dimmer low and brighter high than that phone does.

I have used it outside fairly often without the screen as bright as it would go and I can see it clearly.
