The Most Complete Robot Vacuum I've Ever Used!
on April 22, 2024
Posted by: VideoJunkie
I've been using this combo vac for about 2 weeks now and without a doubt, it is the most complete robot vacuum that I've ever used, and I've gone through multiple models from multiple brands. This Ecovacs X2 Combo is without a doubt, the best unit I've used, although there are some caveats.
This unit immediately makes an impression, and by that I mean it is on the large side. The unit was well packaged. Unboxing and assembling the unit was easy though. Remove the packaging, assemble the cordless stick vac, put away the accessories, power on and connect it to wi-fi. Downloading the app and getting it connected to my network was simple. There was a firmware update, but it only took a few minutes to update.
The first decision you will need to make about this unit is where to place it in your home. The base itself is large, and the cordless vac accessory adds to the size and footprint for placing the unit in your home. My previous combo robot, which is also a vac/mop unit, would fit nicely under my buffet table, out of the way. The Deebot X2 Combo base is too high to fit under the buffet table, so I had to put it in another corner. A minor inconvenience, but if you are considering this unit, think about where you might want to place it.
When it came time to using the X2 for the first time, it needed to do a mapping run of my home. I use the X2 on my main floor, which is predominately hardwood floors, with some area rugs. Mapping each room in the house was simple and the X2 was extremely efficient. I was surprised how effective it was capturing the layout and impressed with the speed that it mapped the main floor. The Deebot X2 Combo has the capability to store multiple maps and be used on different floors, but I'm not going to be moving this often.
Once the initial run was done, I could view the map in my app, and setup virtual walls, room dividers, etc. The X2 app did a respectable job here, though I struggled to divide the floorplan into all of the individual rooms I wanted. I have a relatively open floor plan, so there are fewer "doorways" and more wide spaces that divide the rooms. The app allowed me to segregate my office, laundry room, and bathroom into individual rooms, but my living room/dining room were combined as were my kitchen area and foyer. I would have liked to split these, but when I tried to introduce boundaries, it kept giving me an error message. A relatively minor inconvenience, and maybe something that another mapping run or an app update can address.
As far as cleaning goes, the X2 Combo did not disappoint. The vacuum had excellent suction and the square nature of the robot actually may have helped it do a better job cleaning corners of my house. Compared to my other robots, the X2 seemed to do a better job.
When it came to mopping, this unit is easily the best mopping robot I have had. The large circular pads (2), do a great job mopping the floors clean. And I was impressed by the speed that the X2 Combo completed jobs in each room. When the X2 Combo would go over my area rugs, it sensed them and raised the mopping pads slightly so as to not mop the rugs.
A couple of other notes from my testing... the first time after mapping the house, the vacuum got stuck on two different cords in two different rooms. I had to untangle the unit. For the price, I would have expected the X2 to detect normal power cords (from a floor lamp in one case) and avoid it. I will note that it did not happen again on subsequent runs.
When the unit finishes a job, it returns home and washes and dries the mopping pads to avoid mildew. It truly can be a hands-off experience for weeks at a time until either a) the dust bag is full or b) the water container for the mop requires refilling.
I haven't event talked about the cordless vac so far. And for me, this is more of a nice to have than a necessity. It is really a nice feature, and the cordless vac and attachments work well. I took it outside and used it to vacuum the seats and floor of my car. It worked well for that, and for cleaning under the cushions of the sofa. The tradeoff to me is it just makes the unit bigger than it already is, so consider whether you will use it and it is worth it to you. I also used the cordless vac as a stick vac to clean my steps and while not the most powerful vacuum, it did the job and is convenient.
Overall, I would say that this unit is again the most comprehensive robot vacuum that I've ever had the chance to use. What it does, it does well. It is truly a do everything unit.

Excellent Ultraportable for Productivity Users
on March 31, 2024
Posted by: VideoJunkie
My use case for this laptop is to replace my existing 4 year old laptop for work. I wanted something that was light and could be used mainly for productivity. Enter the Asus Zenbook... a thin, lightweight laptop with a bright OLED screen that is fantastic for business or student purposes.
Let's get this out of the way, this is not a gaming laptop. Don't confuse the Intel ARC integrated GPU with a discreet Intel ARC GPU that you can purchase for a desktop machine. Are these Intel Arc graphics on the laptop better than the previous Intel XE integrated graphics, yes. Are they something you can use for AAA gaming... no. For the occasional light gaming, it's passable, but you likely will need to drop the resolution to 720P for acceptable performance. But that is not the focus of this machine...
What does this laptop do well... first of all, battery life is fantastic, averaging about 15 hours of battery life on a single charge... meaning you will likely get all day performance on this laptop. In my testing, I was easily able to get a full days usage out of the laptop with no issues.
Performance of the Intel Ultra 7 CPU seemed snappy for productivity performance. I used it for Office applications and mainly web browsing / applications. Again, no issues here. I've used the HDMI output to connect to a second monitor and have had great results. It was easy to extend the display or duplicate the display on a second monitor.
The keyboard and trackpad are great to use. The keyboard has a tactile feel to it that is very responsive.
Overall, if you are a student or looking for a business laptop for productivity with ultra-portability for a resonable price, the Asus Zenbook is worth a look.

The Razer Nommo v2 Speakers pack a punch!
on December 20, 2023
Posted by: VideoJunkie
I've been using these speakers for about a week now and I have a number of thoughts to share on whether these speakers are a good fit for your setup.
The Razer Nommo V2 is a full range 2.0 setup, meaning that it does NOT come with a subwoofer. Even without the sub, the Razer Nommo V2 packs a punch and sound quality is very good. If you are a gamer and want a set of good all-round speakers, the Razer Nommo V2 are worth a look.
The full range capabilities of these speakers are on full display when using the equipped THX Spatial Audio, which simulates 7.1 Surround Sound from 2 speakers. It does work, but it is simulated surround sound, and not true surround sound.
The speakers are powerful, and loud, maybe a little too loud. Yes, you can reduce the sound volume, but I've basically reduced my volume by like 85% to get to a normal level of sound to use in the evening.
The speakers connect via a USB C to USB A cable or via Bluetooth. It's nice to have both options, though I use the wired connection with my desktop. It would have been nice if the speakers were adjustable, but they are fixed. Mine sit under my monitor, but they are tall enough that the tops are extend above the bottom of my monitor by about 3/4".
Razer will automatically attempt to install the companion Synapse software to allow you to control the EQ settings and apply THX profiles when playing games. The software is alright, but it's extra software that I really wish I did not need to get all of the features. I get that Razer wants to make it seamless for those that have other Razer products to control everything.
The other "feature" that I'm not thrilled with is that the speakers turn themselves off after 15 min of inactivity and then I have to manually turn them back on or there is no sound. This eco mode feature can be disabled in the Synapse software, but I'd really think it would have been nice if the speaker could simply wake up when the PC came out of sleep mode or when sound started playing again.
Setup was pretty straightforward, but it wasn't obvious to me how to get the speaker to switch from Bluetooth to wired mode. The manual indicated that the LED would be green (instead of blue), but it wasn't obvious to me that you needed to double tap the power button to get the modes to switch.
Overall, I think these speakers are pretty good. The look great, sound great, and deliver a solid gaming experience. The aren't perfect, but the positives for these speakers certainly outweigh the negatives and are worth a look.

Rise of the Robot Vacuums!
on November 14, 2023
Posted by: VideoJunkie
The iRobot Roomba Combo j9+ continues a strong tradition from iRobot and it's Roomba line of products. Without a doubt, this is the best Roomba that I've owned (and I've had several over the years). Setup is a breeze. Plug in the base, download the app, connect the Roomba to the app, and prepare to get a cleaner house.
Now, already having Roomba's in my house, I was able to simply transfer my existing home map to the j9+. so that it did not need to learn room layouts, furniture, etc. was. That was a time savings so that I could just focus on how well this unit cleaned.
In my home, the main floor, which is where I use this Roomba, is entirely hardwood floors, making this the perfect Roomba for my setup. This unit, as a combo unit, has the ability to vacuum, mop, or vacuum and mop during each job. I love the fact that I can choose to vacuum and mop the kitchen and family room (more heavy traffic), and simply vacuum the living room. You can also choose multiple passes and now, with the latest software, can choose to do a deep cleaning mode, where it will go back and forth over areas with the mop, basically scrubbing some tougher marks. This seems to work well for sitckier small messes, but I wouldn't say it is necessarily a replacement for getting on your hands and knees to scrub out a spot. It does work surprisingly well for what it is.
The best thing about the unit, in my opinion, is that the j9+ will return to it's base to refill the mopping tank when it runs low. For someone in my situation, where the entire floor is hard flooring, this is great. It refills the tank, and then continues where it left off. With my previous unit, the j7+ combo, I would get notifications that it ran out of liquid, sometimes after 2-3 rooms. That's fine when I'm at home, but now I don't need to be around. The refill tank is quite large too. I use the recommended Bona floor cleaner, which comes in 1 gallon bottles, and I'd say the tank holds about a half gallon of liquid, which will last quite a while between needing to be refilled. On the app, it will indicate how much liquid is left in the unit and in the refill tank, so you can see when it is getting time to refill the unit.
The unit will also empty trash it's collected on it's run into the vacuum bag automatically. No need to run to the trash can to empty the unit each time. Suction on this unit seems to be really strong too, stronger than my previous units, in my experience.
Is this unit for everyone? Probably not. If most of your home or floor is carpeted, for example, this unit is overkill. But if much of your floor is hard flooring, this is a great unit and will help to keep your home clean. All of the advanced features, like obstacle detection, room mapping, clean and keep out zones, scheduling, etc are all accessible via the app. The j9+ will detect and avoid falling down steps. Overall, this is an impressive little robot.

Gorgeous Picture
on October 24, 2023

This TV is absolutely impressive. Setting up the TV was pretty simple. It's well packaged and easy to assemble. I wall mounted the unit, with the help of my wife. We already had a mount, and replaced our old 65" TV with this one. Weighing in at about 79lbs, it wasn't too bad to lift onto the mount. The mounting holes use a 400x300 VESA mount.
Turning on the TV, I was impressed with the brightness of the unit. My previous TV was also a well-regarded Samsung KS8000 model backlit LED model that was about 5 years old. It's impressive how far picture quality has come in about 5 years. Out of the box the color was pretty good, but after calibrating it, I was easily able to dial in settings to make the picture look more realistic.
I was able to start calibrating picture quality using rtings settings for a similar S90C model, and made further tweaks to my liking. Watching sports on this TV is pretty amazing. The colors pop, and motion is great. I've loved watching the baseball playoffs on this TV.
The TV comes with 4 HDMI 2.1 slots, which is great. One of them will be taken up by eARC if you connect to a soundbar. I also have a PS5 and Xbox Series X hooked up to the TV, which automatically switches the input in to game mode, and with HDMI 2.1, supports variable refresh rate (VRR), which improves the experience.
HDR looks fabulous. Highlights are bright and you can easily recognize HDR content. Just remember that you will need to calibrate for both SDR and HDR separately to get the best, most accurate picture.
So, are there any drawbacks to this TV? Very few, in my opinion. This is a WOLED panel, manufactured by LG displays for Samsung, and not using the QD-OLED panels that Samsung manufactures. That may make a difference to some. The TV does not support Dolby Vision, if that is important to you, but it does support HDR and HDR10 content, which all of the streaming services also support. My only other complaint is minor... when wall mounting, it's a bit tricky to access the inputs if you have a flush mounted wall mount. It took a little effort to plug in the cables to the TV and doing it before mounting wouldn't work, since my cables were run through the walls already. The Samsung also uses the Tizen OS. That may not appeal to everyone. Some settings get buried in the maze of menus and it takes a bit of getting used to.
On the plus side, the S89C comes with a small remote, which I find very useful and easy to use. I can control my NVIDIA Shield, soundbar volume, and the smart TV with the remote. I wish it had a dedicated input button on the remote (your inputs appear like an app when the input is turned on). This is ok, but my Xbox and PS5 show up on a Game side menu, while my media and Nvidia Shield show up on the Media menu. It's an extra couple of clicks to get to the right place. As I mentioned before, the TV supports eARC, which is great for syncing sound with a soundbar/receiver, and eliminates lip sync issues. I've had no issues with audio sync with this TV.
Bottom line, if you are in the market for a new TV, definitely give this one a look. At 77" it is fantastic. The picture quality is great, and watching movies and sports is fantastic.

Sony has a winner!
on August 6, 2023
Posted by: VideoJunkie
I've been using these earbuds for about a week now and I am extremely impressed with the sound and clarity coming from these earbuds. I paired this with my Apple iPhone 13 and was skeptical that these would be such a strong performer in Apple's ecosystem.
I'm truly impressed with the adaptive sound modes that Sony has embedded into the earbuds. It can detect when I am at home listening to music in my office and knows when I am out taking the dog for a walk, and adjusts the noise canceling modes to allow more ambient noise (cars driving by) when walking outside, and the amount of ambient noise the earbuds allows through is adjustable in the app.
Battery life is great. I'm able to get about 8-10 hours out of a single charge, more towards the higher side if ambient noise is allowed in, and more towards the 8 hours if I'm using noise canceling exclusively. The case holds enough battery power for about 2 full charges from what I can tell.
In terms of fit, this is something that is a bit subjective. At first, I thought these would fall out of my ears, but they have stayed in, even when running and walking through the neighborhood. I use the standard tips that come with earbuds, but Sony has included different tips depending if your ears are smaller or larger. All I can say is try them to see which gives you the best fit.
Overall, these are fantastic earbuds. The Sony app has a lot of features and I'm still exploring the different gestures you can do to answer/end calls, setup an assistant, etc. The sound is great and if you are in the market for an advanced, top of the line earbuds, I would definitely consider these.

A great portable experience for productivity
on May 21, 2023
Posted by: VideoJunkie
I've been using the HP Dragonfly Pro for about 2 weeks now and overall this is very good laptop. Performance of the Ryzen processor is great for office productivity applications, browsing the internet, and general productivity tasks.
I used the PC mainly as a replacement for my work laptop, and there are a number of things that I like about this unit and some that could be improved. First, as I said, performance overall is great. I had no issues getting a full day's battery life out of the unit too. This is great and will make it easy to take on trips on the train or flights.
The screen is bright and vibrant and the text is easy to read. The HP Dragonfly Pro has a webcam that looks clear and my coworkers commented that the picture looked clearer than my previous laptop.
Now there are some things that prevent this from being a 5 star unit. First, while the HP Dragonfly is not heavy, I wouldn't characterize it as ultraportable. It weighs about 3.5 lbs, which just doesn't feel all that light to me. It also has an anemic selection of ports, with the laptop only having 3 USB C ports. I still have older style USB devices, like thumb drives, that I use, but now are unable to use them on this unit without an adapter. There is also no headphone jack, which means either using an adapter or connecting by bluetooth. It's not the end of the world, but adapters are just one more thing I need to bring with me or invariably lose..
On the positive side, you can plug the AC adapter into any of the USB C ports and it will charge the unit. That is convenient.
Finally, I am impressed with the build quality of the unit. It does not feel cheap. This is definitely a laptop geared towards professionals for productivity. I do some gaming, but this laptop is not for gaming. The integrated AMD graphics are just not powerful enough if you are looking to play AAA games on this.
As I said, there are few things holding me back from a 5 star review, but it is still a good unit, and if you are able to grab it when it inevitably goes on sale, it is worth a look.

Great Air Fryer with a Good Set of Features
on April 17, 2023
Posted by: VideoJunkie
This is the first air fryer that I've ever had the opportunity to use. I've always wanted to try one for cooking, as it looked so convenient to cook things like fries, frozen vegetables, and other foods in a way that was healthier than frying and tastier than just baking it in the oven.
The Cosori - Pro Gen 2 is a great unit that cooks food well and delivers great results. I used it to heat up fries and chicken strips and they turned out great. Fries were crispy and just right. The Chicken tenders were crisp on the outside and tender on the inside and my kids loved them.
The unit came with a great recipe book that I'd like to try when I have more time. It was easy to setup the unit... basically unpack it, clean the wipe out and clean the basket and go. The unit has presets that you can use to cook fries, chicken, steak, etc. You can also connect the air fryer with the companion app and set it up to work with Alex or Google Assistant. From there you can use voice commands to set temperatures, check how much time remains, among other things.
The unit itself is nothing special to look at. It's all black, and my kitchen appliances are stainless steel. It's not something that I intend to leave out on the counter when not in use, but it doesn't look bad when it is out. The basket cleans easy, and you can put it in the dishwasher. I found it a little awkward to fit in the dishwasher. I'll probably hand wash it most of the time, as it was easy enough to clean by hand.
The air fryer vents out the back and Cosori recommends keeping it at least 5 in away from the wall for proper ventilation. It gets hot at the exhaust, so you don't want that steam venting on your walls.
Overall, I think this unit is great. It has a lot of great features, and I'm excited to use it more and more and to try some new recipes with the family.

Rich sound all around!!!
on November 6, 2022
Posted by: VideoJunkie
The XV900 is a powerful party speaker that rises to the occasion and has fantastic sound quality in a compact package. This unit does not disappoint in terms of sound quality. Music sounds great on this unit. It's powered by six tweeters around the front, sides and rear, capable of producing rich sounds in all directions.
Bass is strong, and vocals sound clear. I had the opportunity to connect this unit to my streaming service to play music via bluetooth and I was impressed. The XV900 also features a TV Sound Booster that raises voice and dialog, which is perfect to pair with a projector and screen for an outdoor movie night.
The XV900 comes with up to 25 hours of battery, which allows you to put the unit in the best location without having to worry about running wires or using extension cords. Inputs supported include a standard 3.5mm audio input, bluetooth, optical connection, or USB.
And, if you have other compatible Sony speakers, you can sync your music and lights across multiple speakers.
About the only drawback on this speaker is the size. It's a beast at about 34" high and weighs about 60 pounds. It does have two wheels making it pretty easy to move around, but I wouldn't exactly say its portable. For the quality of the sound and it's ability to fill a very large space with clear, rich, sound, I will deal with the size.
For my primary use cases, I plan to use this in summer months out on my patio around the pool. This will be great when entertaining by the pool or having a barbecue and wanting to keep the party going. And in the evening, this will be a great unit to use for movie night!

The premium vacuum and mop solution like no other. It’s the only 2-in-1 with D.R.I. (Dry Rug Intelligence) means the Roomba Combo™ j7+ uses carpet detection and the Auto Retract Mopping System that lifts itself to the top of the robot, completely away from carpet preventing wet messes entirely. On hard floors, it vacuums and mops at the same time. The 4-Stage Cleaning system combines our Edge-Sweeping Brush, Dual Multi-Surface Rubber Brushes, Power-Lifting Suction and first-of-its-kind mopping with added pressure for a thorough clean. It's all designed to keep your carpet and hard floors cleaner while avoiding obstacles at the same time—so you can live your life.

Fantastic Combo Unit
on October 31, 2022
Posted by: VideoJunkie
I had the opportunity to test the Roomba J7+ combo for the last 2 weeks, and it is impressive. I was eager to try this, because it had the vac + mop capability in a single unit. My main floor is entirely hardwood, and this would be a timesaver if it worked.
I previously had the older Roomba J7+ vacuum, and that itself was impressive, but this unit takes it to the next level. Feature wise, the vacuum features are identical to both models. In fact, during setup, since I previously had the J7+, I was able to skip the initial mapping requirement, and could simply import my existing map of the main floor, with clean zones, obstacles to avoid, dividers, etc already taken care of. That was fantastic and a bit unexpected.
In terms of looks, the J7+ combo looks almost identical to the vacuum only J7+, with the exception of the retractable mop head. This thing looks like a spoiler on a car when it is lowering. It is quite ingenious the design of it.
You can tell the J7+ to vacuum only, or mop and vacuum, and do a single or double pass. The mop does the job and does a really nice job working its way across the floor, mopping the room as it vacuums first. In my testing, it left no streaks.
The bin performs two functions... it holds the dirt that is vacuumed up and also holds the cleaner. iRobot provides an initial package of concentrate, but in test, it only lasted two sessions before I needed to refill it. The app told me when the roomba needed more, so that was great. If I didn't fill it, the J7+ Combo would continue just vacuuming.
When the dirt bin is filled, the roomba simply returns to the base, empties, and goes out to finish the job. Depending on the size of the job, it might need to return home and recharge. I love the fact that you can choose exactly which rooms you want to clean. That is so convenient and it will detect obstacles and give you the option to tell Roomba that the obstacle is permanent (and avoid it next time) or temporary, and try again later.
Overall this unit is absolutely fantastic and great if you have a large space simply due to hits flexibility and hands off nature of cleaning.

The normal Photoshop is a monthly purchase, is this a one-time purchase?

This is a one time purchase. Not a subscription.

Get seriously clean floors without the effort thanks to this Roomba robot vacuum. It automatically navigates across your carpet or vinyl while avoiding hazards and keeping track of its location all the while picking up dirt, debris and mess. Automatic recharging keeps this Roomba robot vacuum powered so that it's ready to go.

Does it clean in a grid pattern or randomly?

Randomly, but it does work well, even though if you watch it go it looks pretty inefficient.
