Disappointing results

A dashcam setup should be easy and straightforward. This was not.
First there is no quick start guide. You must download the user guide by scanning a QR code provided then look around for the user guide. This user guide does not have a quick setup that you can follow in a chronological order to get started in the setup.
Section 4 now indicates there is a mobile viewer and tells you to download an APP. I am using a Pixel 6 smartphone. The APP is supposed to walk you through the Bluetooth setup unfortunately it can not do this if you are using a Pixel phone. I have many devices that use a Pixel APP for BT connection and its never been a problem. AT this point I was ready to quit and send it back. I had to use the settings in the phone to connect to BT. It would connect then disconnect and it was just a hassle to get it to work consistently. Apparently the APP must be open when doing this pairing. Nowhere is the user guide is this mentioned. All this seems unnecessarily complicated and poorly described. Once it was connected it requested an upgrade download. It switched to WiFI somehow and preformed the upgrade.
When the APP connects to the camera a warning message comes up that says that launching the viewer APP causes some ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Services ) to be restricted. I guess you don’t want to run this APP when driving. I find the APP now consistently connects to the camera.
I used the APP to setup parameters on the camera. Pretty straightforward, although a few of the parameters are poorly described in the manual.
When using the phone APP for video file playback the video is very jittery and breaks up often. This is very poor performance.
Now after making a few recordings I wanted to view the files on my PC. I downloaded and installed their PC Viewer to my Windows 10 PC which initially did not recognize the files. I had to download additional LAV codecs before it played any of the files. The viewer lets you stitch together files for viewing.
A 32 G micro SD card is included but not an adapter to standard SD card to facilitate reading on the PC.
Installation in the car was easy with the items supplied including a tool to tuck in the wires in the header. The power cable was long enough for the installation. It would have been nice to have more wire clips.
Video is acceptable and I do not record sound.

This is the one to have
on October 9, 2023

I have used many headsets and I enjoy this one the most. The headset is comfortable with its adjustable padded headband and nice soft on the ear pads. It has all the features you want and need as opposed to some other headsets that just have a few features.
First and foremost this headset sounds great if listening to music or a Zoom call. Participants on my Zoom calls report the audio is clear. There is a MUTE button easily accessed on the boom speaker housing. There is also a red LED to indicate you are muted. The mic boom can be rotated so you can have it on your left or right side. If you wear it on the left be aware that the boom lays over some of the feature buttons. So if you use it as just a headset you will be quite pleased.
But as they way...but wait there’s more !
The headset can connect to two Bluetooth devices simultaneously. I have one connected to my PC while watching videos and the other connection to my phone. An incoming call will alert in my headset and can be answered from the headset. Another feature is something I have never seen on a headset and that is the ability to have some of your voice be fed into the headset speakers so you hear yourself. This prevents you from speaking too loudly since you can hear yourself. The lack of this “side tone” or “comfort noise” is why so many people talk so loudly on cell phones as there is no such feedback. This is a great feature to have on a double headset and is much appreciated.
Other features include a method to change EQ between voice and music. I don’t hear much difference but you might. I change music tracks, call my personal device assistant and of course I have answered calls or rejected them. When I turn on the headset a voice will tell me the status of the battery, It will also announce when you have a Bluetooth connection. Battery life has never been an issue.
All in all this is a fantastic headset that I would not hesitate to recommend to friends or family.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Basic with one good feature
on October 5, 2023
Posted by: Frankg
This is a basic no frills headset.
The two on the ear pads are comfortable even after I was on a multi hour Zoom call. The sound has two settings, one for music and on for what I believe is voice but I can not understand what the device is announcing when I change modes from music. I do not detect any difference between the two. Music and voices are clear and full sounding. People on the Zoom calls said my voice seemed natural and sounded clear. If however I put my hands behind my head, as in stretching, my voice became garbled.
A nice feature is to allow two Bluetooth connection at the same time. I run it as a PC connection for Zoom calls or music and my phone for incoming calls. An incoming phone call will alert in the headset and the call can be answered right on the headset. I also used the headset to summon my device assistant.
Battery life is good and charging via the provided USB-A to USB-C cable is fine although no charging brick is supplied.
What I do not like about the headset is that the headband is bare metal. Also hard to believe is that is no MUTE anywhere on the headset. This is a huge problem when sharing a screen or screens in Zoom and have to MUTE quickly. It can take some time to get to the ZOOM page to MUTE. This is a major oversight. It should also be noted that the boom mic can be rotated so as to be on the left or right. If you have it on the left the boom covers some of the control buttons.
What makes this headset claim the extra star is that it can have two simultaneous Bluetooth connections, otherwise it would be just another basic headset.

Converted skeptic. This unit performs.
on August 15, 2023
Posted by: Frankg
I never had an air purifier. I was always skeptical as to how would I know it was working or doing anything. My mind has been changed.
Upon setting it up it indicated a 65 percent clean air in my den. Mind you I have a Golden Retriever so I wasn't expecting fully clean air. In a few hours it read 100 percent clean air and it stayed there. The unit is on AUTO so the fans speed up when necessary to filter the air. I moved the unit one floor up to another room and it still read 100 percent. OK maybe it cleaned that air too. I cant really tell at this point. This all changed when I was finished cooking breakfast that included bacon and a little smoke. I happened to go to the room that has the unit running and noticed the unit, which is a floor away, registering much less than 100 percent and the fan running at almost full speed. It also detected particles in the air. In short time it was back to 100 percent. Now I’m more convinced there is something to this.
The unit seems to be doing what it says it does. Included in the unit is a small puck that can be adjusted to release a clean aroma. The QR code on a sticker attached to the unit takes you to the manual and all the info you need for the unit. No manual was packed in the box. The manual references a remote but I did not find one in the box.
The unit is super quiet, you forget its on. I like the fact that there is a 5 year life of the HEPA filter. I thought it would be like printers, the printer is cheap but the ink costs a fortune. Likewise with filters for air purifiers, but not this one. No need to constantly change it. That is a big plus for this unit. You know all the cost going in.
So I am now a converted skeptic and realize its a good idea to have this unit running in my home. As of now all the windows are closed and central air running. In the fall the windows will be open and there should be more work for this unit, I’m sure it can handle it.

Why did I wait so long to get one ?
on August 11, 2023
Posted by: Frankg
Let me first say I am a tech geek. I have 4 Alexa pucks in my home, a smart monitor and a smart TV with Alexa built in. I would consider myself a power user. I have routines and mostly everything in the home is controlled by Alexa.
I never thought I would need or want an Echo Show. I was very wrong. I am thoroughly enjoying the additional content provided by the screen. I have it in my office and it has enhanced my workspace. News scrolls by keeping me informed during the day without having to ask for updates. My Amazon photos cycle through, pictures I had forgotten about and some nice to see again. There are many settings easily navigated via on screen menus to tailor your Show to your interests. It starts out with almost everything turned on but I have limited my scope of interest. I like the one where it suggests new skills presenting you things you never thought to ask about.
A built in feature lets you video call other Shows in your contacts. Nice to easily keep in touch with family and friends.
When setting up the Show I ran through the narrated setup. I thought this odd since I recall when adding pucks it seemed to know my network and passwords. This one did not but the Show walked me through the entire setup with no confusion or issues. A non technical person would have no issue setting it up and getting it online.
Of course it knew my skills but now with the video the answers are very much enhanced. For example when I ask “where’s my stuff “ it answers as normal but now I can see the items that are being delivered. When asking for stock quotes a graph is shown. I can go on but there is so much added content now I think I need a few more Shows.
So I was skeptical about getting a show, now I am sorry I waited so long.

Improved my hearing and it streams !
on June 26, 2023
Posted by: Frankg
I have used other OTC hearing aids and I find these to be far superior.
Out of the box the hearing aids performed perfectly. You must read he included user manual to check for proper fitting and the purpose of the two push buttons. The only thing I changed was the dome and I changed it to small. I did not have to change the slim tubes but two others of different lengths are included in the box. Medium and large domes are included in the package along with a cleaning tool.
The is no APP. The units have 4 preset settings, Normal to boost all sounds, high-frequency boost, low frequency boost and General which the manual said is for steaming music. My particular hearing loss requires a high-frequency boost and this setting works just fine for me. I vary the volume as necessary depending on my environment.
When paired with my Android phone I am able to answer calls and actually hear the person and the callers hear me just fine. I can also stream music and it sounds great. My other OTC hearing aids ( which cost more ) do not have any streaming either for music or phone calls. It has been my experience that constant streaming music and talking on phone will reduce battery life to around 3-4 hours. Normal use will last all day. I charge them at night.
Left and right hearing aids can be adjusted separately for volume and the 4 sound presets directly from the device. Again, no APP is provided or needed. That is not possible with my current OTC hearing aids that require an internet connection to make significant parameter changes. Again, a big plus for this product.
The units were charged upon arrival. The very odd thing is the charging case. The case has a battery that allows me to charge the hearing aids around 3 times without having it plugged in. That is very convenient In order to recharge the case battery you must connect the charging cable to the bottom of the case so you have to lay it on its side. How can such a well thought out product have this, in my opinion, design flaw. There are LED’s on the case that provide status of the hearing aid battery and the charging case battery.
The streaming is a game changer. I no longer have to put up with feedback when holding my phone up to my ear with my other OTC hearing aids. I can not go back to my other OTC hearing aids. I have been spoiled with this great product, it has far exceeded my expectations for an OTC hearing aid.

Well Designed Hybrid Monitor / Smart TV
on June 13, 2023
Posted by: Frankg
This is an extremely versatile hybrid monitor/smart TV. Its very thin in size and has a very thin bezel. The original purpose was to have a 4K monitor for daily use with my desktop PC with text and graphics but the monitor is much more than that. You have read the specs so here are my observations.
The monitor is supplied with a quick start guide.
The setup process begins and walks you through the setup. It finds your home wifi network and you connect to it. You agree to legal stuff. It did a software update and you setup a Samsung account. Quick and easy just follow the prompts. I connected via an HDMI cable and the resolution was set for the recommended value of 3840x2160.
I allowed it to scan my network for compatible devices. It found Alexa no problem and it allows me to talk to the monitor just like an Alexa device.
I then logged into Amazon and registered Amazon Prime,Samsung TV plus, and Sling for use on the monitor. YouTube in 4K is outstanding. There are also many native APPS for streaming services.
I used the Search for Smart Devices and it found my Wyze cameras. There is a Alexa skill for that so I just ask her for the camera by name and it comes up onscreen.
There is a game hub feature that lets you play XBOX and Luna games natively without a console, just add a controller. There are many games to choose from with a subscription. You can add additional gaming platforms.
I connected a Bluetooth keyboard and mouse to the monitor and had the use of native Microsoft 365 without having to use a PC. For videoconferencing Google Meet is native but Zoom and Microsoft Team are not available from the APP store. A very small OK quality video camera is supplied and attaches magnetically to the back of the monitor. If using your PC for Zoom, the PC will not see this camera unless you connect it via a USB port on the back of the monitor. If using the native Google Meet APP the camera does not need to to use thatUSB port.
Audio from the internal speakers is just OK. I was able to pair a Bluetooth speaker to the monitor but the lip sync was off making it unwatchable. I haven't yet found a setting to fix that.
A small remote is included that provides the functions you need to switch between inputs, settings, and streaming services. It is charged via USB C connection.
There are many settings to explore to setup the monitor to your liking. I continue to tweek some settings but the default values are more than fine.
So as a hybrid smart TV, smart monitor with some productivity apps, and a gaming platform it does all well but has a few loose ends. Dont get rid of that laptop quite yet.

Better hearing restored
on December 20, 2022
Posted by: Frankg
I have moderate hearing loss around the speech frequencies in my right ear and have been using a pair of $6000 hearing aids for many years now.
I have to say these hearing aids are working so much better for me. I am hearing much better now. They are more comfortable and do not require battery replacement every few days as these hearing aids have rechargeable batteries. I have also noticed they do not require the daily cleaning my previous hearing aids require. For some reason there is much less wax buildup, maybe because they do not sit so far down the ear canal and the distance between the dome and the receiver element.
Upon arrival I charged them in their carrying case until the light remained steady. This took around 3 hours. I then downloaded the APP on both my Android phone and on my iPad. I created an account Lexi and the hearing aids paired with my phone via Bluetooth. There was a helpful guide on the APP to easily accomplish this. This was followed by an interactive tutorial.
The the APP is not complicated and it allows adjustment of volume and frequency ( bass and treble ) adjustments. I also set the volume higher on my right ear since that ear requires more assistance than the left ear. The app also lets you set directionality IE;360 degree or front facing. I find front facing works best in restaurants where I want the maximum hearing assistance towards my dinner mate and reducing noise from other areas. I also have the ability to set additional parameters based on a particular environment. I have set one up for TV viewing where I raise treble a bit more. Volume is easily adjusted by pressing a volume up or down button on either hearing aid that changes the level on both.
I have used the hearing aids upwards of 16 hours a day and still had 30 percent battery life remaining. The case that houses the hearing aids for charging does not have an internal battery like some ear pods that allow a charge if needed. I did not find this an issue since they last all day and get recharged every night.
One feature that is missing is the ability to stream music or phone conversations to the hearing aids. Maybe this has to do with battery life, but it is a miss for me. Having said that I have used my over the ear Bose QC-45's and an on the ear telephone headset without issue. There are times I get a quick squeal when placing them or removing them on my head.
Included in the box are additional domes, a measuring device to measure you for the correct length of the receiver wire. Dome size number 2 is included and already attached. If size 1 or 3 is required you must contact Bose. Mine is fine with number 2. Also included is an extensive user manual, a hearing aid brush and a charging cable.
My overall experience is a positive one so much so that my wife now wants a pair to replace her older very expensive hearing aids.

This is the one to buy.
on May 30, 2022
Posted by: Frankg
This is the headset you want to purchase. Poly is a company formed by combining Polycom and Plantronics who have been in the business of video conferencing and headset manufacturing for quite a long time. Plantronics headsets were always considered the best in breed going back many years and the Voyager 4310 UC lives up to that reputation. Sound quality on both receiving and transmit is superb. Background noise has been reduced on both my phone calls via an Android phone and ZOOM calls from my PC and iPad. The PC uses the included BT700 High-Fidelity USB dongle. While it is not absolutely necessary this dongle increased my Bluetooth range considerably. One give away that Poly knows something about headsets is the fact that some of your voice is returned to the earpiece. This is called sidetone and prevents you from raising you voice on conference calls. The lack of this is why everyone seems to yelling when talking on cellphones !
I have used this headset on an iPad, an Android phone and a PC without any pairing issues. It has a memory of 8 pairings and can be connected to two devices at the same time. I find the headset comfortable after wearing for many hours. When turned on it will tell you the battery state and what device(s) are connected.
This is a one side on-the-ear headset. The microphone can swivel almost 360 degrees so you can wear the headset on either ear. The MUTE button is conveniently placed on the microphone arm. Volume UP and Down controls are located on the back of the earpiece and have tactile feel, along with a multi purpose button that can call your assistant on the connected device.
The companion software called Poly Lens is available for Windows and Apple IOS. This is where you can select the many available options for the headset and perform software upgrades. This is also where the user guide is located along with links to the quick start guide, device info/logs, and support should it be necessary. The IOS APP further includes a FIND ME feature that will cause the headset to emit a loud noise to aid you in finding it should you misplace it. The IOS App also tells you the remaining talk time left on the battery.
A generous length USB A to USB C cable is supplied along with an adapter to allow the cable to be double ended USB C. This cable is used for charging or using your headset in a wired mode if not using Bluetooth. No power brick is supplied, which seems to be the norm now. Also included is a nice satchel to store your headset in when not in use. It even includes a small pocket for the USB A to C adapter. Now that is attention to detail !
This is an exceptional headset and I seem to have tried them all these last two years. You will not be disappointed with this purchase. This should be the last headset you should have to buy.

Great upgrade without breaking the bank
on November 4, 2021
Posted by: Frankg
from Long Island, NY
I was lucky to get the Pixel 6 and I could not be happier. I was using a 5 year old Android phone on my Google Fi plan. I didn’t think I needed an upgrade since that old phone was working fine, but I did not realize how much I was missing. Now since I haven't upgraded in the past few years this review is based on what is new to ME and it may not be new to those who have upgraded along the way. I intend to relay my experience with the Pixel 6 from that perspective. I have the stormy black version and it looks sleek. I will not go into the technical details as you can get them elsewhere, but I will point out that one of the specs is that the Pixel 6 is water resistant for 30 minutes to a depth of almost 5 feet.
The Pixel 6 came unlocked and my old phone used a SIM card. I come to find out that the Pixel 6 does not require a SIM exchange from the old phone. The transfer of all my data and APPS was easily accomplished by placing the old and new phones close together and have Google Assistant do the rest. It worked flawlessly. The transfer to the new phone was completed in around 15 minutes. I added fingerprint unlock and a few other options that the phone walked me through. Lastly my phone number was transferred to the Pixel 6 and I was all set to go. The phone is running Android 12.
The battery came almost fully charged and after all that setup the battery lasted me two additional days before needing to be recharged. This, mind you, is with all the additional use as I explored the phone while using Dark theme which saves battery life and I feel its a much richer look. The phone did not come with a USB wall charger, but what does these days?
The screen is clean and crisp and scrolling is super smooth when using the smooth display option which is on by default. There are many display options to choose from. This is the first noticeable improvement over the old phone but more was to be discovered.
The “Hey Google” call to the assistant works flawlessly, much better than on my earlier Android phone. The response is loud and clear and it understands my voice a bit better than my old phone. This is not new but I feel it is integrated a bit better.
I used the recording function and come to find out there is an automated process whereby the recording can be simultaneously transcribed to text. This is done without having to be online for supported languages. I was able to take the transcript and share it via any shareable method, I chose email. Easy. Imagine what this can do for the hearing impaired and copious note takers.
Live translate is a very useful feature. You can point the camera to a sign, lets say at a railway station, and have it immediately translated to English. I have used this to translate a document right off the screen of my PC. This will be helpful translating a menu during foreign travel. There is also an interpreter mode that allows you to translate by just taking turns speaking in your native language and have it translated. It is conversational, both parties just speak. I have done this and it works very well.
In my opinion the camera on the Pixel 6 rivals my HD-SLR produced by a well respected company. The most talked about feature is the eraser. This tool will remove a photo-bomber and unwanted items in your photo. In my experience it works great. I will include two pictures in the review to show how it removed people and other artifacts from the beach. This picture was not taken with the Pixel 6 but it was in the camera roll. The eraser automatically suggested removing people from my beach picture and I allowed it to do so automatically. I also manually removed someone on a small water craft and what looked like an anchor rope by just drawing a circle around the element to erase. No longer do I have to use a complicated program to edit my photos. There are many other editing options related to color, filters, cropping and many other tools presented in an easy to use format. I was able to include text on my picture and place it anywhere in the frame. The easy to take panoramic pictures are nice especially for large groups and landscapes. I have also used the BLUR and UN-BLUR features. Remember this is all done easily on the Pixel ! It is all very intuitive. I have also created HDR videos that look outstanding. The phone will create a link you can share with others to view the file, which can become quite large quickly. There are way too many photo options to go into here, but I believe they have included everything you need to up your photo game, as I have done. Video recordings can be in full HD at 1080p or 4K at 30 or 60 FPS.
Yes there is a bump on the top rear of the phone that houses the lenses. Its a bit odd but I'm past it now that I have been using the phone for a few days.
The Pixel seems to get smarter the more you use it. It suggested features I was not aware of after poking around the various menus. It reminded me to setup Amazon photo backup. Google photo was automatically setup for me earlier. It also suggested a method to allow messaging to also appear on my PC. This links the Pixel to your PC by way of a web page and allows me to receive and send SMS/MMS messages. Now I don’t have to keep reaching for my Pixel while doing PC based work to read incoming messages and reply as needed. This may not be new but its easy implementation makes this an easy to use feature. I use it all the time now.
Pixel 6 also suggested that I turn on call screening. There is a video explaining this feature and I have turned it on. I would get a few spam calls a day but so far none have rung through to me since they might be in the Google spam number database. If you are not in my contacts you will be asked to say why you are calling. If there is no answer to that question the call will ring thru but indicate the caller did not speak. If the caller does respond I will see a transcript of what they said. Either way at this point I can then either decline or answer the call..
Sprinkled around the various menus are what seem to be context based help files. I have found them very useful in setting up the various options on the phone, and be aware there are many. I did have to Google one or two help webpages, but just be aware that help is out there and easily found even for such a new product.
My experiences have all been positive with the Pixel 6. Maybe it was a good idea not to upgrade for a few years until a game changing product like this became available.
