Def worth picking up. Controls handle great, the ability to control environment affects the gameplay and is new addition to FPS games. The story top notch and will keep you motivated to complete the game. Wish there was room for multiplayer, this game is gorgeous. Highly recommend.
What's great about it: Intense gameplay, immersive story, best graphics

What more do you want in a Shooter? Not much! Graphics are insane, the music, and of course the storyline. It is the closest to a RPG that a Shooter can get. I recommend it highly

I had played BioShock's predecessor, System Shock 2 years ago on the PC. It is still one of my favorite games to date, so I went into BioShock with eager anticipation, as well as some high expectations.
I was not disappointed.
The game grabs you from the beginning as you crash into the ocean and discover the underwater utopia of Rapture. Without giving too much away, it is quickly apparent that all is not ideal in this city beneath the waves.
The story itself is thoroughly interesting, although a little ambiguous from the get go. You don't know much about your nameless, faceless character other than you are the sole survivor of the crash, and as you travel through the game world, you learn more about the fate of the denizens of the city through audio diaries, as well as various clues scattered throughout.
The graphics, being on a next-gen system, are superb. From the rippling water effects to the flickering fire, everything is stunningly rendered.
My only complaint with the game lies in the control scheme, there is no option to remap buttons and switching weapons on the fly can be pretty clunky, especially in the midst of one of the games many intense firefights.
All in all, the game is thoroughly entertaining and definitely worth the price tag. While admittedly, it's losing out a lot of its FPS audience to Halo 3, for a different kind of single player experience, I recommend checking out BioShock.
What's great about it: Incredible graphics, engaging story, exciting game play
What's not so great: Controls could use a little tweaking

Truly the best story for a FPS that is out on the market. The plasmid system along with standard weapons makes for some extremely varied gameplay. The setting for BioShock (a city called Rapture far beneath the sea) is unique in this day and age when most FPS are either in WWII or the future. Not recommended for anyone under 18 however due to language and violence.
What's great about it: Amazing story, graphics, and gameplay.

I typically would frown upon anyone writing a review before playing through the entire game but I broke my own rule with Halo 3 because it was simply too boring to finish. BIOSHOCK, on the other hand, is simply awesome. I haven't even played half-way through I'm sure but want to put in my two cents worth.
Does anyone else actually feel scared (as in watching a horror movie) at times when your playing this (especially when you hear Big Daddy's footsetps but don't know where he is)? The only thing this game is missing is smell and taste. I just feel that this game was so well thought out, planned, developed and produced that it has set a new, higher bar for all other game developers. As far as that is concerned, 2K will have to work very hard to equal or surpass this if they try a sequal or any other similar game. Thanks 2K for this awesome game. Well worth the cost (even for us workin folks) and much more than simply a "shooter" game. Probably need to add a new category though I wouldn't know what to call it. Then again, maybe that's jumping the gun a bit since for the time being, BIOSHOCK would be the only game listed. Buy it today and make sure you spend your money at Best Buy since they work hard to bring us a good "on the shelf" selection and this great website that helps us in sharing and choosing what to spend our money on.

Bioshock is a game for the xbox 360 that simply kicks butt. This game is unbelievably fun. The graphics in this game are the most beautful and the gameplay is awsome. However, this is a singleplay only game and the ending may be dissapointing but overall this is one of the greatest games and is a must get.
What's great about it: Great Graphics, Great Story, Great Gameplay and Mechanics
What's not so great: Lack of Online Play, Ending not as satifying, killing the final boss isn't that great

Overall I'd have to say this is one of my favorite games for the system right now. I'm sure the PC version is great too although I've only played the demo on that format. If you are looking for a great FPS, something that will send chills up your spine and throw you for one heck of a spin towards the end look no further. This is the game for you. Even novice FPS players will find joy in this game. This just goes to show how developers, if given the time and resources can truly make a work of art. BioShock will go down with the likes of Halflife as one of the great classics of our time. GO BUY THIS GAME!
What's great about it: GORGEOUS visuals, Outstanding Sound, Wonderful Story
What's not so great: Gets away from itself towards the end, and very tough

As the thousands of other reviews have said, it's got an awesome story. That said, the ending (of which there are only 3) is out of place and rushed. One of the creators in an interview said that it was an upper management decision to have only a few ways to end, even though they emphasize all the different possible choices you make throughout the game. Realistically, you could rent this game and get everything out of it, as it has very little replay value (probably twice). But it's worth buying if only to support the developers and get more games like Bioshock made. I'd highly recommend it.
What's great about it: One of the best stories told in a video game
What's not so great: Not many different enemy types, silly shift in story near the last quarter
