seems to work so far, but it can't play any of my recorded dvd's from my aspire digital I purchased a couple of years ago. Looks like the recording standard was changed. I can pull up the title screen but hitting play does nothing but brings me back to the title screen. well at least they are +RW so i can format and reuse but I will be losing a lot of recordings... recording seems to work fine. playback of DVD movies purchased in the store seem to work fine. Haven't tried dual layer yet.
What's great about it: dolby digitial recording (2 CH)
What's not so great: can't play my other 70 recorded dvd+rw from old dvr recorder, also would have liked an optical output.

The clairity in the recording is outstanding. The up convert is great when playing back movies I already have. I can not believe the quality of this recorder. This is the Best Buy for your money where you get more for your dollars>

I have never take time to write reviews--until now. I was so pleased with this Toshiba DVD recorder I had to comment. Outstanding value, with wide range of features for such a reasonable price. Despite my reservations, having never operated a DVD recorder, and needing to integrate this one into an aging audio-video system with some outdated analog equipment, I discovered it was simple to accomplish all the functions I was looking for in my first attempt! Great features for viewing JPEG files as well as creating DVDs on multiple formats. The simple one-touch recording made the task of video transfer to DVD easier than I even expected -- why did I wait so long to tackle this task? Exceptional quality in my opinion. Cannot speak for durability (only operated it for one day now), but so far, no complaints whatsoever!
What's great about it: Features, price, convenience

Purchased to replace a Sony DVD Recorder that was worn out, didn't buy a Sony because of copy protection issues I'd heard about. I was skeptical but decided to risk 120.00. I must say I'm pleasantly surprised. This unit records well from my DVR. I've encountered no problems at all. DVD-RW, DVD+RW and DVD-R's all seem to work fine.
What's great about it: Excellent price, good quality recordings

I have had this several months. I think it is a really a great value. It works really well; records well, plays well, easy to set up and use, etc. I play regular DVD's to my high def TV and they come out sparkling! I really like the remote which is much better than my old one; it is not backlit, but it is big and has a lot of nice features.

I purchased this DVD recorder a couple days ago to replace a 6 year old Panasonic that finally died. The recording quality of the Toshiba is noticeably poor compared with the older Panasonic. Recordings made with this Toshiba frankly look like VHS quality to me--the picture is muddy and dull compared with the much crisper picture I got on the older recorder. The lack of a variable recording speed is also a huge minus. For example, if you are recording a 2 hour and 5 minute movie on this recorder it actually records it at the 4 hour speed, which is very poor. I'm probably going to return this and get a higher end model by a different company.
What's great about it: Low price. Easy to use.
What's not so great: Poor quality recording. No variable recording speed.
