This is a great unit for the price, it has everything you really need without spending a fortune. One suggestion, before writing reviews, please update the OS sofware, voices and maps (you get 1 free map update within 60 days if you register) before you say silly things like you got an old unit when you ordered online. Just make sure you have a mini USB cable handy. Also make sure your area is covered by the traffic service. Only the largest 100 or so metro areas are covered. Here is the website for the FM service they use: http://totaltraffic.com/
What's great about it: Traffic, display, features, updatable

We have avoided buying A GPS though I have one for my laptop. I have researched a number of models and knew that Garmin was the highest rated and that the 255wt had everything I was looking for. It is easy to use for the basic operations but we did run into a problem where the system did not respond. We solved it by unplugging the USB charger and restoring to the original setup. We did not find the solution in the manual or the website. The screen is easy to use, even my wife liked it, and she was the biggest critic of a GPS. I'm sure there are others available with similar options but it just didn't seem like the chase was worth the catch.
What's great about it: Good price, easy to set up
What's not so great: Not a lot of instructions for a GPS novice, even on line

I purchased this GPS to replace a Navigon that was stolen out of my work truck recently. Overall, I'd say the Garmin is a slightly better unit. It responds more quickly to keypresses and looks up addresses faster than my Navigon did. It has a bright, crisp display and a good, clear speaker. (I was especially impressed that when it reads off street names, it generally pronounces them correctly, too! My Navigon had that feature, but did a laughable job at pronunciation.)
The 2 biggest negatives I've found for the Garmin are the lack of a "lane assist" feature, and no way to enter a zip code to narrow a search for an address. (The lane assistance feature change the display to show a view of an exit ramp you're approaching, and indicate the lane you need to stay in to properly exit on it. Navigon did this with their "Reality View" feature, and I really miss it.)
I do like the traffic capabilities of the 255WT though. (Essentially, this unit is the same thing as a Garmin 255W except the lighter plug charger cable is modified to include an antenna, and gives the unit traffic functionality by receiving the data over side-band broadcasts of FM radio stations.) It draws a yellow dot to indicate some traffic congestion ahead on your route, and a red dot to indicate an actual traffic jam. This feature also makes sure it's aware of roads or bridges that have been closed for construction, so you can have it re-route a course around them. The only thing to be aware of when using this is, it will often try to take you off of a major interstate and start using side roads if it thinks there is a spot of heavy traffic ahead. If you're driving in typical rush-hour traffic though, you probably DON'T want to listen to it -- because you wind up wasting even more time with stop signs and traffic signals, and going way out of your way.
Garmin has some of the best Windows PC software out to handle downloading map updates and customizing the GPS with "points of interest" you'd like to add to it. Unlike some companies, they won't leave you stuck with a unit that you can't get a map update for, either. (Common problem with the "under $100" specials you see.)
Overall, this unit isn't perfect, but it's a good, solid GPS for under $200 that does what you need (and even throws in some extras you really don't need at all - like ability to show photos of places when you arrive there, if you download the pictures into it first).
What's great about it: Good support by Garmin (regular map updates available, etc.)
What's not so great: Doesn't have lane assist feature like some units

I have moved up to the Nuvi 255W from a Nuvi 205 (square screen) and I'm very happy for the upgrade. When I was a bit disappointed w/ the performance of my 205 -- slow to search for destinations by name, re-routing not the fastest -- the 255W came on sale for $129 and I picked one up. I had considered the 205w, but just the wider screen wasn't enough for me, even at the great $89 price it's at right now. The 255w does ADD over the 205 FM traffic updates, a new economy driving feature that takes in current gas prices & your specific vehicles MPG for city/hwy & gives you up to date info on your driving style & efficiency. I do believe this is now a free download from Garmin.com for older units, but it's a nice feature that was pre-installed.
Also, this unit seems to respond faster for re-routes and searching for destinations by name than the 205. Overall, it was a great upgrade for my needs. I don't see BluTooth being that valuable, I've never desired it nor do I need it. I wear an ear piece & that's more than perfect for me. For the price, whether you got the Black Friday or the current 3-day sale @ $129, this unit is well worth it, especially if you are considering it against the 205. For the extra $40, if you have not used the 205 before, you may not appreciate the new features. For those who have the 205, this is a slight upgrade, well worth the money for a 2nd unit.
What's great about it: wide display, ease of use, clear directions w/ spoken street name, traffic updates

The main screen of the map does not show distances. The estimated time arrival is worthless, it calculates it based on no traffic, even though there is a traffic feature. The routes calculated are sometimes different even for the same destination, and does not appear to be the fastest route. It takes you on city streets instead of freeways. It does not show street names of the upcoming streets. Garmin is not the best GPS around.
What's great about it: Good price, free traffic
What's not so great: Estimated time is ever changing, doesn't consider traffic properly
