Overall excellent. Hooked up with no problems & ported phone over which took a few weeks to complete. No significant issues. Still attempting to get incoming faxes to automatically receive. Outgoing faxes not an issue. Very pleased overall.
What's great about it: Works as advertised
What's not so great: Incoming fax set-up not yet working

I purchased this to replace Vonage and I was reluctant. I was very surprised that it worked just as well as the competitors and much better than Skype. Installation was easy (I even put it behind the router, not as they recommend) and it works just fine. I use Google Voice so I do not use the voice mail feature but having the answering machine feel is nice too. So far it has been working flawlessly, I transferred my phone number to the device and never looked back. One thing, international calls are not as good as Vonage, but I use skype mostly for that. This even works better than the local internet provider's VoiP solution.
What's great about it: One time fee
What's not so great: Depends on having internet, but that is VoiP!

Took a chance and purchased this Ooma box and I'm glad I did. I was previously paying $32/month (after taxes) for VoIP service, now I pay nothing.
It is easy to setup. You go online and register the device on the ooma website. BE CAREFUL. They have a premier service for $9.99/month extra (which is still an excellent deal) which you get free for the first couple of months. It comes with extra features like block lists and simultaneous ring (will call your cell phone when your home phone rings). You will automatically start being charged the monthly fee after your trial service ends unless you uncheck the box, which some users might miss in the excitement of setting their service up.
There are other cool features for a small price. Like you can get another phone number (2 lines) for just $4.99/month extra. However, the basic free service will be all you need for a home phone since most have cell phones anyway.
The device will let you make fax calls as well. My old VoIP service wouldn't even do that. It has an answering machine feature in case your phone system doesn't have one.
Here is how I have mine connected: 1. Connected the Cable Modem into the Ooma Telo with the ethernet cord (you must have cable or dsl service with at least a 256k upload speed to use the device) 2. Pluged my home router (WAN) into the Ooma Telo with another ethernet cord. 3. Pluged my Panasonic Phone Base System into the Ooma Telo, then placed the other handsets throughout the house.
Cable Modem->Ooma Telo->Netgear Router->PC
The ONLY major complaint I have is that the power cord disconnects very easily from the Ooma telo because the plug is so small. The slightest movement will cause it to come out.
I've been using it a month now and the calls are clear, even when the wife and I are surfing the net. I've only had to reset it once.
For $250 bucks,it will pay for itself in less than a year.
What's great about it: Easy to setup, clear audio, no more phone bills, keep your phone number or get a new one
What's not so great: The power cord will disconnect easily from the device if it is moved.

Installed system, purchased Premium, ported local number, ported other state residence number, disconnected land line supplier wires at outside box, bought Panasonic wireless phone set, and plugged in kitchen wall phone to wall jack.
Now I have removed land lines from both houses, I can answer phone calls for here (AZ) and for another state (WA), have phones in the house where I want them, and can have my cell phone ring when I'm away from the house.
I had to call Ooma support several times to keep adding the features I wanted ----- but eventually got what I wanted. Sometimes had to call back and talk to another rep if I felt I needed more help than I was getting

Has slight humming noise yet, Did get quick response with another telo. Remains to be seen if this fixed it, but other than that the sound is very clear. Still waiting for phone number to be ported. It suppose to happen the !8th of February.
What's great about it: easy to hook up, it is very clear so far., except the slight humming noise.
What's not so great: Has a slight humming noise , did recieve another telo, seems to have same noise

I actually have the 1st generation ooma hub and scout, but ooma upgraded it's products so I have to review on this product. I have had ooma serivce for 6 months now and have already paid off my initial investment. The device I have requires something called a scout device for every phone you and hooked up to it and is not compatible with the new telo handsets. The biggest disadvantage for having this system was that I had to rewire my phone network because it was messed up to begin with, but I believe my experience was outside that of what normal people have to deal with. Here is my review on the product:
The setup takes a little know-how but once figured out, it's a very simple concept. The device itself should be wired in directly after the modem and before any routers. This is important because the device allocates bandwidth when on a call. Because of this, call quality is what you make it. Out of factory, it allocates 130 Kbps by default for a call, this can be changed to as low as 40 Kbps or as high as 215 Kpbs. What this comes down to is computer internet speed vs call quality. Right now, the factory default gives excellent voice quality. If you feel you need better quality, simply log on to the hub setup via a network browser and change your settings. This is great for VoIP phone service.
The reason customer support is lacking is because ooma does not have field support. This is why the service is so cheap. They limit their workforce to minimize cost. This is why you need a little know-how to get the system working to your specs. They can not send anyone to help you and thus they have to rely on communication to fix any problems you may have.
With all that being said, one can see why so many people complain about the customer service with ooma. I personally find them slightly difficult since they have to be very through in what they do to insure you get the service you need. I recently have to replace my unit because it went bad (I think a surge ruined the transformer and eventually frying the hub). One week later I have a new hub and phone is back up. Slightly frustrating going a week without home phone, but don't have premier which would forward calls to a cell in such a situation so can't complain.
Overall, this is the best deal for phone service out there. Compared to vontage, probably no difference except ooma doesn't have monthly fees and even for the premier service, only 10 bucks a month can't be beat. No hassling with voicemail because the base plays them directly with a push of a button. No dialing from a handset necessary. Talk for hours and never receive a bill again. Additional features available for those looking for the best experience.
What's great about it: No monthly bill, good phone service

I love my ooma system! It was great to kiss att goodbye. Sound quality is not perfect. Tech support took three weeks to respond to my email. I ported my old number and the process was completed in less than 2 weeks. I asked tech support why the ooma system was not ringing on incoming calls and did not get a satisfactory answer. It started ringing when number porting was completed which happened faster than the tech response. All things considered, I highly recommend this system!
What's great about it: COST, easy to set up and use
