As long as this device and your phone have access to the internet, you can control your garage door anywhere! They don't have to be on the same network meaning you can also use your phone's data plan.
Yes they can unlock your door but hopefully you also have another lock on your door where you do need a key. Also if that's not the main holder for the lock(on your phone) you can delete that user so they won't be able to unlock the door.
