I have a Dell 8200 Desktop pro, I don't use the computer for work anymore, just for research , searching for products, hotels, jazz shows, flights etc. listen to music sometime, nothing too serious. I don't need a top of the line computer for what i do, can you advise me on what direction i should be looking in.by

I opted to have the Geek Squad transfer all of my files/data from my old computer to the new one. It was well worth it. Although they did not transfer my Bookmarks or my Emails. So, if you do this then make sure you ask.Remember, the only thing they can transfer is the files. Not the programs that the files are associated with. You will have to install some of your programs yourself and they have to be compatible with Windows 8. I use Family Tree Maker, so that was one of the ones that I did have to install. It does not have Microsoft Office, so you will have to install that program if you use it. One tip I can give you is to buy an external hard drive. I save all my programs on there and just plug it into my new computer to reinstall those programs.

I could find nothing on this. I chanced a HDMI to DVI-D cable and hooked up two HP S2031 wide screen 20" monitors, one to the HDMI port and one to VGA. Worked flawlessly. I set the HDMI to primary but see very little difference between the two.by

This computer did not come with Microsoft Office. You have to install it yourself. It does come with one year of Webroot Virus protection. It is a really secure program.by

It does not come with speakers. It does have a cheesy keyboard and mouse though. I used the speakers that I had with my old computer. I also bought a better keyboard and wireless mouse, my preference though. What comes with the machine is sufficient to start using immediately.by

Yes, I have installed windows 7 on dinosaurs > windows XP pcs with half a GB of RAM. 1GB of RAM and a decent dual core processor will run windows 7. Even less will handle it, but not very friendly experience on the net or anything else.by

Try the HDD in other pcs that fit the connection, and and then use a HDD that you know works on the same pcs. If the (bad) HDD ends up working on one of those other pcs, then it is not the HDD, maybe the motherboard. If the HDD does not work in other pcs that you know have working HDDs then the drive is bad. GeekSquad may be able to save the data, but the drive is now in need of replacing.by

Relocating the computer typically would have no effect on the drive unless the computer was moved while it was powered on. While it is possible that rotating the chassis between Horizontal and Vertical could cause the drive to fail it is most likely that one of two things occurred - 1) a cable to the drive became loose when the chassis was moved or 2) the drive failed when it was powered down and if that is what happened it would have happened even if the chassis were not moved.by

Unfortunately, it'd be difficult to determine the exact cause without being able to physically examine the unit -- it's possible that internal connections may have been jarred loose during the move or that the hard drive has failed. If you haven't already done so, I'd encourage you to speak with a Geek Squad agent at your local store.9 years, 11 months ago
