i have been given a gateway m-6308 with the above drive in it. it is only a 75 gig drive and i was wondering if this 500 gig model would be a direct replacement for me. i need much more space to do what i want with this laptop.
That's a rather old model, so I'd scour the web to make sure it supports SATA III. You can used a 3rd party tool to scan your system (e.g. Crucial's site has an online tool). If the laptop doesn't support SATA III, you won't be able to appreciate the drive's potential.

with laptop Hard Drives you need to look at the thickness of the hard drive. in ultra book I would think it wouldn't fit. but in a full size laptop should have no issues.
No. This is an EXTERNAL device made to be placed nearby your system. While it has the capacity to replace several of teh Toshiba drives you mention, it cannot be installed in the body of another PC.
Yes it will. We recently used the subject hard drive to swap out with our original PS3 80GB hard drive after we ran out of space. Don't forget to go through the PS3 process to save your data before you make the swap!
Yes this should work fine for you. The Size is not the important part it is the connections and type of drive it is. The satellite L305-S9538 has a Serial ATA (SATA) port in it and so does this drive.
Are you trying to swap the hard drive from within this drive to your laptop? It might be. I'd check the dimensions (specifically the thickness) of this drive against the one you have in your HP laptop.
You did not list the model number, so I can't double check.. But you can type in the hp model number into Google and do a search. The System specs will say something like " Hard Drive SATA 5400rpm 250gb"
