Wildlife at 200 yds might be stretching it a bit. I'll give you an answer with some objects that might help you get a frame of reference (I'm no expert at translating focal length into feet or yards, so I won't bore you with a lot of technical jargon!) When I first got this lens I wondered the same thing you did, so I put it on my camera and focused in on a license plate in the parking lot that is about 100 yards away.
The car filled up about 8-10% of the frame at 200mm. I couldn't read the license plate number on the LCD screen. However, when I hit the + button to zoom in on the image as it appeared on the back of my camera, things got better.
By the 4th time I hit the + I could read the license plate, and by the 5th time I hit the + button the car was taking up 50% of the LCD screen and the license plate was plain as day (as info, my camera has 14.2 megapixels, so your image clarity might be different). So you could certainly zoom in after you load the image onto your computer, but then you'll definitely lose picture quality. Since what you want to shoot is smaller and farther away than the car, you might want to look at a more powerful zoom lens.
