flat screen tv's in ice shacks

My husband is looking at purchasing a flat screen tv for his ice shack, and was wondering what type of tv should be used due to the cold weather climate.
Most LCD tvs are reported to have a temp rating -4 to 10....some say below 32 F is a bad thing.
It is not only the cold but the moisture while operating that can re-freeze when the unit is off that can be a problem.
SunBrite tvs are made with outdoor climate in mind. They come in various sizes form 32" to 55".

What does the projector screen ratio mean, i.e., 1:1, 16:9, 4:3, etc.?

In reviewing projector screens for purchasing, these various ratios continued to be mentioned but not knowing what they mean could compromise an online purchase. Thank you!
Regular TV is 4:3 ratio...720 x 480....almost but not quite square. Slightly longer on the horizontal side.
16:9 ..wide screen...is the newer version with several variations in screen dimensions. These screens are much longer on the horizontal than the 4:3 Standard TV.
The variations cinematic style, anamorphic,..ect.
1:1 is a square...1 to 1 ratio. Mostly associated with photo/graphical projection.

i want to use a s-video cable and put a coax f - connector on the end and connect to my t.v.would that work?and would i be able to my dvd through that

S-Video, also called a Y/C Connection, is actually a 4 pin connection..2 grounds and 1 pin that carries a Y or Luminance (Black and White) image and 1 pin that carries a C or Chrominance (Color) image.
A F connector and coax generally carry a rf signal of some sort.
F is a two wire...S is a 4 wire...not compatible.

I want to post makeup tutorials on youtube, which camcorder would be best for that?

I need a camera with good lighting, that can focus really well, and best of all that is cheap.
Canon, JVC and Panasonic have both new and refurbished camcorders that would work well for this. Price ranging from $150 to $249. I would not suggest a Flip or pistol style camcorder.
Flash drive or Hard drive based should work fine.
Get a HD camcorder as the details much higher and HD seems more forgiving in most lighting situations.

What is the difference between a telephoto and a zoom lens?

There are 3 lens types that are most common. Prime, Telephoto and Zoom. Zoom and Telephoto having similarities to each other.
Prime Lens:
This type of lens has one focal length. Prime lenses come in all kinds of sizes and diameters.
But...have a set focal length. They can be as short as 10mm or as high as 1600mm...but do NOT zoom.
Telephoto Lens:
Telephoto Lenses use a special lens grouping known as a Telephoto Group that extends the light path to create a long-focus lens in a much shorter overall design. When these lenses enlarge the subject the body of the lens remains the same length.
Zoom Lens:
Zoom Lenses come in two types Parfocal and Varifocal lenses. The body of both lenses will get longer as they ZOOM in on the subject. Parafocal will maintain focus during zoom and Varifocal generally will not.
Both Zoom and Telephoto lenses get you closer to you subject.

That's the BASICS...it can get more complicated, but this generally how it works.

Vivitar film lens use on Pentax?

I know that I could use any of my "K" lenses for my film camera on any digital SLR Pentax but I also have some Vivitar lenses that I use on my film Pentax K1000. Would I be able to use those Vivitar film lenses on a Pentax K-7?
As long as they are the same mount system it shouldn't matter the brand of lens.
There is a conversion factor when using film lenses on Digital-SLR cameras. The zoom factor is usually multiplied by 1.6.

I'm looking for a fairly inexpensive camcorder that produces good quality movies

I am looking for a camcorder that will have better quality movies than my 12.1 megapixel camera. And has good zoom. Im trying to find the best quality camcorder for under 200 dollars. One that has the most space and featurs, yet small. Also I like the traditional style better than the flip style.
Take a look at the JVC - Everio...it just might be the right fit for your needs.

Products from my answer

What does the firmup date mean on some of Sony's Blu-ray players???

Some movies and special features may require Firmware Updates to play properly. Additionally certain Blu-ray players are able to play back web content from sites like Netflix and Pandora. From time to time additional features or sites may be added to the player and firmware updates can also take care of this.
