Only displays 480i

I have my tv hooked up to a Direct TV HD DVR, set on 1080i. I use color coded cables. Anyway, when I turn the TV on, in the top left it shows 480i. I have all settings on my DVR correct for any programming, up to 1080p. So, it must be something with the TV? How do I get the tv to show 1080i programming, or at least 720p?

The TV will show a "p" if it detects a progressive signal.
True HD is at 1080p. Very few things are in true HD.
If you have a Bluray Player you would most likely see 1080p displayed.

I have a new tv , and i have done the channel scan many times but it still continues to say i need to "run the auto channel scan"?

You must have a connection to the TV from a direct source like cable or antenna. It will not scan for channels using AV inputs.

Would love to hear your advice - simple DSLR for school gym, sports

Hi, thanks for helping. Point and shoots just don't do it anymore. Looking for a DSLR that works great taking pictures in school gyms of concerts, sports, etc., family shots, some scenery and maybe one day, travel pics.

Ease of use, a great zoom, clarity the priorities. Not a pro, with no desire to learn, just taking pictures for memories. Canon? Nikon? How much would I have to spend to get just what I need and want?

There a 3 excellent entry level D-SLR cameras sale priced right now at $499. Canon, Nikon and Sony.
These are full slr camera so you can have complete manual control if you want.
All D-SLR cameras also have a Full Auto mode so they can be used like a compact camera....Point-and-shoot.

Compatible with a D3000?

I've heard this lens won't autofocus with this camera. Is that true?
Would a different normal lens work better?
