As long as the Dell system has an open SATA port it should work with no problems. I used this SSD on an older system that as SATA 1 and had no problems with backwards compatibility. I did a quick look at the specs on the OptiPlex 740 and it uses SATA drives, so it should connect with no problems. You will need a sata cable as this drive does not come with a cable.
I asked this same question and apparently it's up to the store to update it at the end of the night? But realistically, they might only update it when they do their stock counts.
I have seen this happen too....though to be fair, other stores have this problem as well. I always end up calling the store personally and having a staff member put hands on the item and HOLD it for me....only way to be sure.
Because of the high turnover of merchandise, especially on sale or in advance of holidays/peak shopping periods, it is always best to check with your local store for products after obtaining the pricing/SKU information from Best Buy.com. My experience using this method is that Best Buy staff are excellent at quickly confirming if merchandise is on hand at their store or a nearby one. If available, simply complete your purchase with the Best Buy staff during the call.
Your computer may only read some of the memory capacity and lose the rest, I recommend only a 500 GB solid state to Speed that baby Up and Stay away from the extended memory because your processor may not be compatible.
If it says it can handle a 3.5" hard drive and that 500gb would be enough HD space for you then yes it would. If it says 2.5" hard drives though, then you have to get a laptop size hard drive.
