This was a terrific adaptation of Melville's Moby Dick. It was a twist on the story and not so much focused on the captain's search for the whale but more about the character of the captain. Chris Hemsworth was very good as the experienced captain of the ship. We could see his humor under the surface of a ship that had another captain who was placed on the same ship but very much out of his element. The whale played a more secondary figure in this movie although his presence was used to bring out the story of the two captains on the same ship. Although we are not necessarily looking for a happy ending but that was what happened in this case-more like a satisfactory ending with the whale going off into the sunset and the two captains reaching a common moral ground.

Had to remind myself what Apollo 13 was all about. Tom Hanks we remembered, but really forgot about the outstanding supporting cast that consisted of Kevin Bacon, Bill Paxton, Ed Harris, and Gary Sinise. I am not sure but this may have been the movie that was a breakout for Gary Sinise. This movie seems a bit outdated with the current crop of space movies, such at Star Trek, Star Wars, and the Martian. But, it had really fine actors that were beginning their acting careers or were early in their careers. We take them for granted now but even Tom Hanks had not yet reached his superstar status at this point. Also, it was one of Ron Howards, really outstanding movies in his early years as a director.

This was a pleasant surprise. We thought JK Simmons was beyond his talent in this little movie that was about a beginning musician who ran into a tornado of a music teacher (played by JK Simmons). We were comfortable with JK Simmons in his insurance salesman role on TV. But the movie showed that he can step out of the "nice" person selling insurance role, and assume someone who is a little mad and domineering. Miles Teller played an outstanding role as the beginning drummer , who drove himself to be one of the aspiring musicians in the elite school run by Terence Fletcher (JK Simmons). Don't miss this little gem that gives you hope that outstanding movies can still be made on a limited budget with really good actors.
This set contains every episode from the first season of HBO's True Detective. Every episode was written by series creator Nic Pizzolatto and directed by Cary Fukunaga. The program stars Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson as Louisiana detectives who reunite after an ugly falling out in order to solve a murder they failed to crack years before.

Matthew McConaughey is a very good actor. Since his role in Lincoln Lawyer, he has really established himself as one of the better actors on the screen. Of course he followed up with Mud and Dallas Buyers Club. Woody Harrelson seems a bit uneasy in his part in True Detectives. He is not really a natural but is a decent actor that fills the role, but he is a good supporting actor. Even in The Hunger Games he is ok but not really why you would watch this series. The story is interesting enough about a child killer and holds your interest to the end. The ending is interesting enough to warrant your attention through the series. Too bad they did not follow up with the same people in season two.

This is one of the best movies of 2015. Closest movie to "zero dark thirty" which was one of the best movies that came out a couple of years ago. Benicio del Toro was fantastic, and he dominated the screen every time he came on. Emily Blunt was a bit tentative, but that was the part she was supposed to play. Josh Brolin was good as the CIA-type agent, that recuited Blunt into the drug raids into Mexico. The musical score was terrific all the way into the credits. Normally, the music is not noticeable, but this really was a large part of the dramatic moments that supported the raids into Mexico. Still, Benicio Del Tora reminded you what great acting is about.

Person of Interest is maybe a better than average series, about a group of people who are out to save the innocent from the bad people or incidences. They have developed a "Machine" to follow the people of New York who may need their help. Most of the actors are good, but Harold Finch (played by Michael Emerson) is really a strange person. It may be that it is difficult to understand how they can follow 15 million people who live in New York, but once you get past that point, how do they follow their agents with their Machine. Again, you have to accept that ability to follow specific people out of all the people in New York. Once you can accept all the basic background, the stories in them selves are not all bad, in fact they are entertaining. It helps that they have actors that like Jim Caviezel and Sarah Shahi that fit the roles that are given to them and good supporting actors. If you enjoy Agents of Shield, you will enjoy this series.

Not being familiar with the Watchmen characters, they were not as interesting as the Marvel characters like in Captain America. The cast was not as good although there was some effort on their part, but still the story was not as riveting as Marvels The First Avengers or The Winter Soldier. It may be partly that there was no explanation of where the characters were from or how they came about to obtain the special powers that each had. Have to take that as face value, and accept them as they were.

We knew a lot of money was used to produce this movie, but somehow there was something still missing or unsatisfactory at the end of the story. Not really sure what was missing. Could have been too close to Cinderella trying to emulate Star Wars, but it just could not pull it off. Channing Tatum was ok but he was not Harrison Ford. Mila Kunis was closer to Cinderella than Carrie Fisher. Lots of special effects, but it was the main story that lacked sustainability. After watching it the first time, there was no urge to watch it again, like in Star Wars. The problem was you could take it or leave it, which is not a good sign for making a second episode. Save your money and invest in the new Star Wars if you have a chance.

Well, we won't have to wait for another episode. This series had some great supporting actors, but Jennifer Lawrence (Katniss Evergreen) was a little timid and stiff in most of this particular episode compared to the earlier Katniss in the first Hunger Games. Julianne Moore, Donald Sutherland, Philip Hoffman and Stanley Tucci were terrific throughout the series and upheld the quality of the series. Couldn't ask for more than that, but the theme was really tested in this last episode, and it was good that this was the last of the series.
This collection features all ten episodes from the first season of the mystery drama Dig, a show which follows Peter Connelly, an FBI agent who is investigating the mysterious murder of a female archaeologist in Jerusalem. In the process, Peter discovers more than he bargained for: a conspiracy surrounding the Jewish temple that spans two milleniums. The show co-stars Anne Heche (Donnie Brasco) and Richard E. Grant (Withnail and I).

Jason Isaacs is really the actor who holds this movie together. The movie itself is better if watched at one seating. But it is too long for that. There are at least three parallel stories that are being continuously running at the same time, so it can be disconcerning at times because it cuts away from the story going on in Jerusalem. Anne Heche, who is the local supports Jason Isaacs character in Jerusalem, is fairly good but seems a little timid for this role. Eventually, all the three stories come together at the end, but it takes patience on your part for this to happen. This makes for a very uneven movie because the interest in all the parts is not as great. Takes too long for it to come together.
