Excellent Performance, Budget Friendly Price
on June 13, 2023
Posted by: rtbestbuy
Verdict: With excellent performance, a superior display and all day battery life, the Dell Inspiron 14 7430 2-in-1 is a no-brainer choice for home office or entertainment use.
The Dell Inspiron 14 7430 2-in-1 comes with the 13th gen Core I7 processor, 16gb memory, 1tb NVME SSD, a 14 in FHD+ (1920x1200) touch (pen capable) display, and Windows 11 Home. Wireless connectivty is Bluetooth 5 and WiFi6AX. The contruction quality is excellent, with an all aluminum desighe and a solid keyboard deck and centered touchpad. It's thin and light enough (3.5lbs) for easy carrying. The keyboard is a typical Dell, compact chiclet style, but with very good tactile feedback. It's backlit and the keys are nicely spaced and large enough. Typing on it is very fast. One nice touch, the function keys do double duty and can be set as either 'F' keys or media control keys by default. To access the other controls, you use the "Function" key. The hinge allows it to be used in either a tablet or tent configuration. Although it works well in Windows tablet mode, I'm not sure how much I really want to use a 14in tablet that weighs in at 3.5lbs.
The 14 inch display is very sharp and bright with a very thin bezel. The resolution is FHD+, 1920x1200, which makes the display slightly more square and allows a little extra length for office type apps. Streaming at 1080p, I didn't notice any difference. The display is sharp and bright enough that I was able to reduce the font scaling to 100% from 150%. It was perfectly readable. The display folds all the way back to a 'tablet' type configuration and a separate pen is available if desired. I've used it in 'tent' configuration for watching videos. Although it works well in Windows tablet mode, I'm not sure how much I really want to use a 14in tablet that weighs in at 3.5lbs.
Battery life is excellent. As a test, I ran it on battery straight for about 4 hours and was down about 50%. For typical use it should easily last all day. Perfomance wise, I used it for web browsing, streaming, office apps (email, docs, spreadsheet), photo editing, and video rendering (GoPro) and it handled all of that very capably. I was able to run some video rendering in the background while doing some office work without any noticeable lag. I did run a couple of games for grins and was surprised at how well they ran, albeit at lower frame rates than I'm used to. The new Iris XE graphics is a real step up from previous Intel graphics.
The video camera is very sharp, with 1080p resolution and a slide security cover if you're so inclined. Works well with Zoom, Teams, and Meet. Out of the box, you get the laptop, a USB-c charger, the 2-in-1, and a very brief pictorial showing the location of the ports and important keys. Ports are two USB-c/Thunderbolt ports, an HDMI port, a legacy USB 3 port, and and audio jack. Initial setup was the usual Windows litany of creating a login, selecting a few options, and two or three iterations of updates and reboots. By the way, the fingerprint reader works very well and makes login very painless, almost as easy as no password at all.
The Dell Inspiron 7430 2-in-1 is an excellent performer at a budget friendly price. It is solidly built and should provide service for a long time. Highly recommended!

HP Hearing PRO Self-Fitting OTC Hearing Aids are innovative products that look nothing like a traditional hearing aid. Built to medical device standards and meeting all FDA requirements for safety and efficacy, the HP Hearing PRO features Ear ID self-fitting software and technology powered by Nuheara. Ear ID has been clinically proven to be substantially equivalent to a professionally-fit hearing aid. The proprietary Ear ID software tests the wearer~s individual hearing thresholds from low frequency to high frequency in each ear, then automatically programs the HP Hearing PRO hearing aids for each ear. This ability for the consumer to self-fit through the HP Hearing application, for iOS and Android platform mobile devices, allows a quick and easy acclimation experience for the consumer. The entire acclimation experience takes about 10-15 minutes from unboxing through customization of the user~s personalized profile to accommodate their perceived mild to moderate hearing loss. In addition to the HP Hearing PRO~s capabilities as an OTC hearing aid, this innovative product streams media and phone calls via Bluetooth. The Active Noise Cancellation minimizes background noise for an immersive sound experience when streaming phone calls or music. Additional features include an HP Hearing app for iOS and Android, Rechargeable built-in Li-ion batteries, and Charge Case for on-the-go charging Most importantly, the HP Hearing PRO has been clinically validated through research completed by the National Acoustic Laboratories to provide a 30% speech understanding improvement in the presence of noise using the directional microphone feature called Focus. This is a significant benefit for consumers in restaurants or social situations where background noise makes understanding speech difficult. Now, at the touch of the HP Hearing app, a wearer can switch the directional microphone settings to Focus on sounds towards their front, quickly allowing for immediate improvement in speech understanding.

Good Earbuds, Best for Very Mild Hearing Loss
on May 15, 2023
Posted by: rtbestbuy
Let's keep this simple. The HP HearingPro OTC hearing aids are excellent earbuds, but I think
fall down a bit as hearing aids. Positive first - the audio quality is absolutely first rate, among the best of the earbuds I've used. Listening to music is a blissful experience, and the call quality is also excellent. The setup/'tuning' app is easy to use and initial setup takes only a few minutes. The two major downsides are the short battery life and the lack of options in the 'tuning' app.
I have mild to moderate hearing loss:
Sometimes struggling to follow converstions in crowded venues
Turning the tv up louder to follow the audio
More noticeable with higher frequencies
This means I could put the aids in only for those 'as necessary' situations, but I'd really
rather just leave them in all day. I've averaged about 6 hours of use before having to stick them in the charging for a recharge, which means having to recharge them at least once and sometimes twice during the day. The app, while easy enough to use, doesn't really give you any data about the level of correction it has programmed, and really provides very limited manual control over the aid parameters. The app tunes the response based on your response to tones at varying sound levels. After the initial tuning, the only adjustments available are overall volume and focus. There is no way to manually fine tune the frequency response or tune for things like wind noise. There are two more minor annoyances as well. The units are large enough to be very apparent, looking like ear buds, which may or may not suit the occasion. The ear tips are supplied in only three sizes (S, M, L) and although they are supplied in both silicone and moldable foam, a larger range of sizes may provide a more comfortable fit.
All in all, the HP HearingPro OTC hearing aids are decent enough, but I felt like they just
missed the mark a bit. Hopefully the app will be improved to provide much finer control and more options for situational noise control in the future.

9 out of 10 people in the world breathe unsafe air according to WHO guidelines. With View Plus, you can keep your family safe from air pollutants: radon, particulate matter (PM), carbon dioxide (CO2), humidity, temperature, airborne chemicals (VOCs), and air pressure. When there is so much that is out of your control-pollution, asthma, allergies, wildfire, virus-you have more control than you think when it comes to indoor air quality with View Plus. View series products are: battery operated or use USB plug; wireless and WiFi-connected; work as a hub; include a customizable display; connected to an app (iOS/Android) and online dashboard with full data and reporting.

Becoming a Necessity in a Modern Home
on November 8, 2022
Posted by: rtbestbuy
Devices like the Airthings View Plus are becoming a necessity in a modern home, which are generally well insulated and sealed from outside air circulation. Airthings View Plus provides monitoring for Radon, Particulates, Volatile Organics, CO2, Humidity, Temperature, and Air Pressure. Measurements are synced with the Airthings website so you track them over time. Particulates and V(olatile) O(rganics) are particularly important because we live in an area with occasionally high polution and particulates from forest fires.
Setup was extremely easy. Figure out where you want to put it and pull out the tab protecting the batteries. The batteries are double A batteries and claim a two year life. Then, download the (IOS/Android) app, connect to the View Plus, configure location and the room name, and configure the display. The View Plus starts a seven day 'calibration' period to set the norms for that location. While it takes a week, it's much more realistic that a one hour or one day snapshot. The View Plus is also Alexa and Assistant enabled, although it currently doesn't do much beyond allowing you to request the current level of one of the seven monitored values. You can set notifications in the app when any of the monitored values go to unhealthy levels. The Airthings View Plus provides a 'hub' capability for other Airthings monitors, although for the hub function to be enabled the View Plus must be plugged into a (not supplied) USBc power source. It's possible to place monitors in multiple rooms and have them connect and report through the View Plus.
My only real complaint is that the display only shows two air quality values that you select. It would be nice if there was a way to scroll through them, but I guess that's what the app is for. The Airthings View Plus is a completely unexciting device as long as nothing goes 'unhealthy', which is exactly as it should be. Being able to track home air quality should be unexciting. I'm waiting to see what happens with our next thermal inversion (high smog levels) or the next smoke drift from a forest fire.

Nice Action Cam, Needs a Better App Experience!
on November 2, 2022
Posted by: rtbestbuy
The DJI Osmo Action3 is DJI's third attempt at an action cam and mostly a winner. GoPro users will find it remarkably familiar. The shape, button location, and even the menus pretty much mirror the GoPro experience. While not quite up to the specs of the latest GoPro Heros, it does offer some nice touches of it's own, including a price $100 lower. Unfortunately, at least for Android users, the experience is marred by the app experience. More on that later.
The Adventure Combo is very complete. It includes the Action3 camera, three extreme batteries, a (very nice) three battery charging case, two quick release mounts, a flat adhesive base, a protective frame, selfie stick, two locking screws, and the ubiquitous USBc cable. The Extreme batteries are supposed to perform better at low temperatures, which I didn't test. The battery life is excellent, over an hour sitting on my desk recording at 4K120(max resolution and frame rate). Overheating seems to be a non-issue, as the camera didn't shut down or heat up excessively during the test. Charging is also extremely quick, both in the camera and in the charging case. Full charge took about 20min. The cool thing about the charging case is that it can double as a power bank, like for an emergency charge for your phone. The charging case also has two slots to hold extra microSD cards.
The quick release adapter is pretty neat. It's magnetic has an additional pair of clips to secure it to the camera or the mounting case. The mounting finger are standard gopro, so it locked right into my handlebar mount. I'm a gravel/road cyclist and put the camera through it's paces on the bike. Some significant jolts out in the dirt didn't budge the camera, but when I wanted to remove it (at coffee, gotta have coffee), I could unclip it easily. The Osmo Action3 has a single mount on the bottom, but the mounting case has mounting clips on the bottom and the side for vertical orientation if you want. The stabilization is excellent, you choose among four levels, off, rocksteady, horizonsteady, or horizonbalancing. Increasing stabilization narrows the field of view as the stabilization software reserves more of the sensor area. One additional feature that I found very useful was voice prompts for mode. This is especially useful when you're not able to look at the camera. I hope DJI extends it to include more voice prompts, like for recording and not recording.
After unboxing, I started the Osmo Action3 setup. This is where things, if you have an Android phone, go incredibly sideways. The DJI Mimo app is NOT available in the Google Play store, it is ONLY available for download directly from DJI. Since it is available in the Apple store, I'm assuming the problem is some compatibility with Google's new app format or Play Store. To install it on Android devices, you have to sideload the app, explicitly allowing installation from an untrusted source, download and install the .apk file manually, then disable installation from an untrusted source. Ughh! You'll need to repeat this occasionally, as the app doesn't appear to update itself. This has to get fixed and soon. So next get the battery and microSD into the camera and power it on. A somewhat threatening message pops up, something like "Activation Required: Skip: 5 Times Remaining". At this point you can pair the Osmo Action 3 with the app, register it, and update the firmware. Not sure what happens if you don't activate it within the five times.
All in all, the DJI Osmo Action3 is easy to like. While not quite as advanced or polished as the new GoPro, you can save a lot of money if you don't need the absolute highest resolution and frame rate device. And it does have some unique features, like the quick release mount and quick charge, long life batteries, Hopefully they will resolve the issues and get their app back in the Google Play store. It really detracts from an otherwise excellent action cam.

GoPro Just Stomped the Competition!
on November 2, 2022
Posted by: rtbestbuy
This is a long review, so here is the short summary: The GoPro Hero 11 sets a new standard for action cams. The Creators Edition adds accessories that, with the new features of the Hero 11, make it an easy choice for the action set, vlogger, live streamer, or content creator. The Hero 11 should be at the top of the list for either first time or upgrade buyers.
I upgraded from a GoPro Hero 8 to a GoPro Hero 11 Creators Edition, which includes the Hero 11 Black, Enduro battery, Volta handgrip/remote, Media Mod & windscreen, Light Mod, second battery cover with a port for the usb-c connector. There's also some mounting hardware and a case.
I'm a cyclist and primarily use the GoPro handlebar mounted for videos and stills on road and gravel. I also use it hiking, although I'm starting to appreciate it's broader appeal. The stabilization is noticeably better than the Hero8, particularly on gravel descents. The new Superview mode widens the field of view allowing more of the path to be captured. In general, I've found wider is better for action cams. While I'm not one of the mountain bike descenders you see doing jumps, it's nice to have a rugged camera. I crashed on a gravel descent with the Hero 11 on my handlebar and it came through much better than I did. It's really built to take it.
The biggest change to the Hero 11 over previous versions is the new sensor, which basically enables most of the new features. It's a big 27mp sensor that is faster and squarer than previous version. It's also the first to offer 10bit color rather than 8bit. The extra pixels don't improve the maximum video resolution, but enable even better stabilization, higher frame rates, additional aspect ratios, and a wider field of view. The 10 bit color increases the color palette dramatically, which is especially noticeable in stills. The new sensor also adds an 'autoboost' feature which increases the stabilization as necessary by slightly narrowing the field of view. It also adds full horizon lock, so the camera can do a 360 without the image rolling.
The battery is the same Enduro battery that was introduced for the Hero 9/10. Where the Hero 8 battery life would shorten dramatically on cold mornings, the new battery seems much less temperature sensitive. Battery life is dependent on the frame rate and resolution chosen, but seems to be much better than the Hero 8. I also left it just sitting to test overheating, which was a problem for the Hero 8. The Hero 11 didn't overheat even though it was just sitting recording at 4K/60fps for over an hour. While overheating may still be a problem at higher frame rates. GoPro seems to have significantly tamed the problem with the Hero 11.
I wasn't sure about the Volta hand grip at first, but it's proved doubly useful. It provides an additional 4hrs or so of battery life. It works well at various stops on group rides, I can quickly mount the Hero 11, get a bit of a charge, and record at the same time. It also provided an emergency charge for my phone on a ride. It fits nicely in my small handlebar bag. The Creators Edition also includes a second battery cover that has a port for usbc connector, so you don't have to use the Media Mod with the Volta. While not submersible, it is sealed well enough against dust, splash water, etc. I was able to find a usb plug to seal the port when the Volta wasn't connected for my own peace of mind.
There are a whole host of features, such as the new night modes, star tracks, horizon lock, and ultra high frame rates that I've played with, but haven't really used. Overall, I'd have to say that the Hero 11 was a no-brainer upgrade over the Hero 8. If you're considering an action cam the GoPro Hero 11 should be at the top of your list, and really sets the bar for any competition. Highly recommended.

Nice, Portable Therapy On the Go
on October 15, 2022
Posted by: rtbestbuy
I like the Hyperice Venom Go. I've had it about a week and applied it about 15 times or so. It provides pretty good spot heat and massage therapy in a small, easy to carry package. Unlike most 'therapy' equipment, it packs up nicely and doesn't require a wall plug. It's not without some issues, but overall it's a pretty useful package.
I am a cyclist, riding an average of almost 200 miles a week. My typical ride is anywhere from 35 to 65 miles, with the occasional ride up to 100 miles or so. At least once a month, I'll do a multi-day ride of between 200 and 300 miles. I also do some strength training with free weights. I've avoided most 'therapy' equipment because it doesn't pack well and takes up way too much room. The Venom Go is perfect for travel! I've used it on my shoulder, knee, elbow, and calf and been able to fit and stick the pad easily. Hyperice's estimate of at least 20 uses out of a pad is probably pretty accurate. I'm approaching 20 uses on my first pad and it's still sticking fine (more on this later). Pictures show the Venom Go on the side of my knee, calf, and thigh. So far, the longest I've had it operating is about 40min on one charge (at the default settings), but it did have charge left after that session.
I installed the Hyperice app (Android) and the setup was simple and intuitive. Options are for three heat settings and three vibration settings. The default is 10 min, low heat, and constant vibration. This works fine for me. I tried the medium heat, it was too hot. The vibration defaults to steady, although you can select 'intermittent', 'pattern', or 'off'. After trying the different settings, I just returned to the default as the best option.
The Venom Go heat therapy really helped, especially on my knee ache and calf twinging. I was surprised at how effective it was. One ride I had driven to, I put it on my calf and had it going on the drive back to help prevent a cramp. It wss delightful!
The Go is not without some faults, and they do knock it down from perfect. It's a bit pricey. The replacement pads are about $10 each, about $.50 a use if you get 20 uses out of them. You do have to be pretty careful to clean and dry any sweat or lotion on the area you want to target. It doesn't appear that you can use an external power pack while the device is working, which is too bad. It will charge from one however. Also, the most significant annoyance to me is that a device designed for travel doesn't come with a travel case! There is a case available for an additional $30.
Overall, I'm glad I got it, and find it a useful therapy tool. The small size and battery operation make it perfect for travel, or just for spot treatment while returning from your chosen exercise. Definitely recommend it for your consideration.

Great Addition to a RoboVac Home!
on September 12, 2022
Posted by: rtbestbuy
The LG-CordZero Stick Vacuum with Kompressor technology is a great addition to a robovac home. We live in a house with two dogs who shed and insist on bringing the great outdoors inside. With wood, tile, linoleum and carpeted surfaces, as well as furniture, we added a robovac to the family to try to keep up. RoboVacs are a great 90% solution, but there are still corners, behind doors, furniture, and just the odd spots to vacuum. A rechargeable stick vacuum is a great idea, but most that we tried either just didn't have enough vacuum, capacity, or battery to really work well. The other problem with a 'cordless' is that you have to charge it somewhere, you can't just stick it in a closet. The LG-CordZero solves these problems in a compact, easy to store package.
The LG-CordZero has a very nice charging stand that hides in a cubbyhole nicely (see picture). LG provides a hideaway second battery that can be swapped and charged while the vacuum is in use. The basic vacuum is sufficient for dust, fur, and dirt, and there is a boost and turbo mode for really dirty stuff. It's also great on furniture and blankets. It comes with a 'beater' head, crevice tool and brush attachment which pretty much covers any surface you need to clean. The 'neck' adjusts to accomodate the height of the user.
Setup was a breeze. It literally took us longer to get it out of the box than it did to get it clicked together to use. The instructions are clear and concise. It is WiFi connected, but I found that to be marginally useful. It's not required for operation.
The 'compressor' technology actually works pretty well, at least for fur and dust. There is a lever that you press and it pushes the gunk down into the bottom of the 'gunk' well. Since none of these stick vacuums have much storage, it allows you to empty it much less frequently. It also makes emptying it much easier because you open the bottom, flick the lever a couple of times and it pushes the gunk out the bottom.
All in all, an excellent addition to a robovac home. It would be welcome in a smaller home or as an alternative to pulling out the corded vacuum to vacuum a room or couple of spots. Highly recommended!

A Great Gaming (and Everyday) Mouse
on September 2, 2022
Posted by: rtbestbuy
The Logitech G705 Gaming Mouse has migrated from gaming mouse to my everyday computing mouse. It has a noticeably better feel, fit, and features than the mouse it replaced. It is exceptionally light, wireless and accurate. The thumb rest on the side is large and really helps avoid fatigue on longer sessions. The slide pads are large and the mouse moves easily. All the buttons are programmable via the very intuitive Logi GHub software. The lighting effect is programmable and kinda cool for display, but can be programmed off as well.
The mouse connects to your PC via Bluetooth or a dedicated wireless dongle. The dedicated dongle might provide better response in some environments, but I stuck with Bluetooth as I didn't really notice any difference. Either way, the G705 connects quickly and easily to both Windows 10 and 11. You will want to download the Logi GHub package as it allows you to configure all the buttons and speed.
In game, the buttons can be programmed through the GHub software and the functions remembered for a particular game, along with the resolution and report rate. Very nice and very convenient. The resolution is by default set to 800, 1600, & 3200, which can be cycled by the little button behind the wheel. One really cool thing is that the three dpi settings can be set to anything between 100 and 8200 per your taste, and switched on the fly. I currently have them set to 800, 1200, and 2000. Really cool in game when I can switch from a low res setting (slower more precise movement) for aiming to a higher res to scroll across the screen quickly.
The two extra buttons thumb buttons work well and are positioned so that it's not easy to accidentally hit them; the thumb rest keeps your thumb below them. The battery is a rechargeable and I've been charging it once a week to top it off. Logi provides a Usb-c charging cable and an adapter so that the cable can be used with the dongle as well.
Hand position is excellent, at least for me. I like a smaller mouse (for reference, I wear size large gloves). The G705 works well with either hand up or resting on the mouse. As I said, the G705 has become my everyday mouse as well, and now migrates between my gaming rig, deskside, and laptop. Yes, I'm going to be buying another soon... Highly recommended!

Excellent All-in-One Laser Printer
on August 30, 2022
Posted by: rtbestbuy
The HP Laserjet Pro 4101fdwe is an excellent choice for either work at home or small office. It's small, fast, and easy to set up and maintain. Pricing at under $500 makes it a very appealing choice, and the HPplus subscription service can be very convenient. Long story short, both the printer and scanner are full duplex and very fast making it ideal for an office of up to 5 or 10 people.
Unboxing was really easy, with printed instructions on the box; no heavy lifting, you just slide it out. It was really nice not having to hump it up out of the box, trying to shake the box off. HP has clearly thought about making it less arduous. Once out, it went into the printer corner. Setup was pretty close to trivial and doesn't require the HP+ app. I went through setup twice, first time adding it to my wireless network using the touch screen, second time using the app. Either way is just a couple of steps, then done. And, there were no complaints or problems connecting to my wireless network, a WiFi6 (2.4&5ghz) mesh. It just worked. By the way, the touch screen is excellent and provides access to both setup and operational controls.
Windows found the printer and installed the HP+ app, which gave me the option to install native scan/fax/print drivers. I prefer this option as I've found there are some older programs that just need them, but otherwise the HP+ app has worked fine for everything. And having it on my phone (Android) made it convenient to print directly from a text without going to the computer. Photos printed from my phone (in black&white of course) looked great. Print quality is typical HP, excellent across the board.
There is a 250 sheet tray and a second 100 sheet sheet feeder, both can be adjusted to a wide selection of paper and envelope sizes. Used the sheet feeder for envelopes and legal paper to test and it worked great. Should note that I printed several #10 envelopes and a 5x7 manila envelope and the HP 4101 handled both without any problems. I have yet to have any paper jams or other paper handling issues.
The scanner is a full duplex (2-sided) scanner with a 50 sheet feeder capacity. Had to copy a tax return and it was Sooo nice scanning both sides of each page in one pass. Copied to pdf, then made a direct copy just for grins; both worked very quickly. Copy options are 2sided-2sided, 2sided-1sided, 1sided-2sided, and of course 1sided-1sided. I didn't really try the fax facility as I have a separate fax service.
The HPplus Instant Ink agreement deserves some note as it can save you a significant amount on toner cartridges. After you agree (at $1.99/month and up depending on the number of pages/month) to an estimated pages per month, HP will send you an extended cartridge to get you through the included period. Unused pages roll over up to some limit and pages over your allotment cost some amount. HP will monitor the printer toner status after that and send you a new cartridge when the toner is low. The agreement can save some money and is very convenient. It's very convenient as HP will monitor toner levels and send you a new cartridge and a return for the (almost) empty one. I find it doesn't work for us as our pages printed per month is wildly variable. It may be advantageous if your print output is more predictable and it is very convenient having a new cartridge show up just in time.
The HP 4101fdwe really addressed all the annoyances I had with my previous laser printer. The only possible downside is that the 'e' in fdwe means that you agree to either only use HPplus Instant ink or buy only HP toner cartridges. This wasn't a problem for me as I've had very mixed luck with third party refill cartridges and only get HP cartridges. There is a HP 4141fdw model that is about $120 more that does not have the HP only restriction.
Overall, the HP Laserjet Pro 4101fdwe printer is a great printer and a bargain for the price given it's capabilities. In spite of the Instant Ink page limitations, I may find myself subscribing again just for the convenience of having it show up on my doorstep. Highly recommended!

The Roborock S7 MaxV is a robot vacuum that has been created to make cleaning your floor completely automatic. It is a robot vacuum and mop combo that you can genuinely set and forget for weeks at a time. Its ReactiveAI 2.0 obstacle avoidance system with enhanced hazard recognition keeps it away from hazards, so you don~t have to clear the floor before it runs. 5100 Pa of suction power deeply cleans dust on wood floors and carpets. The unique VibraRise mopping system scrubs your floor at up to 3000 scrubs per minute to eliminate dried-on stains. It can also lift up when carpet is detected, so you can mop floors and vacuum carpets in one run. To top it off, the Empty Wash Fill Dock is self-emptying and holds up to 7-weeks of debris, refills the water tank, and washes the mop, ready for another run so you don't have to lift a finger!

A Bit Pricey, But Best One Yet!

Let's just start with this, The Roborock S7 MaxV Ultra is easily the best robovac/mop we've ever owned. And the most expensive. It is packed with features that all pretty much live up to their promise. It both vacuums and mops very well, works around obstacles, and provides excellent mapping and programming features. The dock, while mammoth, makes it easy to clean up and maintain.
Our house is a split level home with tile, wood, linoleum, and carpeted floors, with about 1300 sq ft on one level and 400 sq ft on the other. This makes it a significant challenge to robovacs. Add to that two dogs, assorted dog toys, power cords, and the usual detritus of living (backpack, purse, the odd shoe,...) and the challenge is complete. The Roborock S7 MaxV Ultra is the first robovac (of many I've owned over the years) that I haven't had to pick up and 'prep' the house prior to running it. The onboard sensors (optical, Lidar, bump, and AI recognition) work spectacularly well at object avoidance.
Programming options are extensive. The first time out the S7 MaxV maps the house. The rooms are color coded in the companion app and can be edited or split. Obstacles are photographed and available in the app for identification (or pick up). Vacuuming and mopping can be programmed by whole house (the robovac decides), room, or custom area. It seems to do a very good job of switching between mop & vacuum on rugs. However, we only want the tile in the kitchen and linoleum in the bathrooms mopped, limiting the rest of the house to vacuum only. That is easily set up after initial mapping. The mopper vibrates providing a scrubbing action and does an excellent job, best of any hybrid robovac/mop we've had.
I'm a fan of docking robovacs, it makes cleanup a lot easier and makes it possible to let the unit run for a few days without cleaning every time. That said, the S7 MaxV Ultra dock is pretty big (see picture) so you need to have a place for it. It is worth it, with a clean & dirty water tank for the mop and a dust bin for the, well, dust. The dock will automagically refill the clean water in robovac. The dock also will clean the mop pad when the robot docks and empty the dirty water into the dirty water tank. The vacuum dust bin uses a bag, which makes it a little cleaner and limits the vacuum smell. In our house, the dust bin bag seemed to fill after a week of vacuuming and maybe stretch to two weeks before we throw it out and replace it.
No robovac is perfect. As with ALL robovacs, corners and behind doors remain a manual vacuum chore. Until we get Rosie (for you Jetsons fans), the robovacs will all have limitations. That having been said, they are a big time saver. The navigation, automation, and AI features in the Roborock S7 MaxV Ultra make it the first robovac I've had that I trust to run without supervision and pre-vacuum pickup. Battery life is excellent, the robot cleaned the entire house and returned to the dock with about half the battery left. It was also pretty fast, it seems to optimize it's cleaning pattern and eliminates the need to zig-zag over the same area several times.
All told, the Roborock S7 MaxV Ultra is expensive, but you get a lot for your money. It is probably the best and most autonomous robovac we've ever had, certainly the best mopper. I would highly recommend considering it.

What is the weight of the laptop? And what is the weight of the AC power adapter? Does it come with a giant and heavy AC power adapter?

The laptop is a bit over 4lbs and about 3/4" thick. Battery life if you're not gaming, or if you dial back the game settings is pretty stellar - about 10 hours for just general office type operation. The power supply is a bit of a brick, but not as heavy as other gaming laptop power supplies. I would guess about a pound.

Can i use hdmi to connect an external monitor with this laptop without losing performance?

Sort of. HDMI is somewhat bandwidth limited, so the refresh rate will be lower than the laptop refresh rate. Better to use the USB-c DP functionality to get a higher refresh rate on an external monitor.

Does the backlighting on the keyboard actually shine through the letters or just around the key?

It shines around the keys and through the script on the top of the keys. So for example on the "A" key illuminates the "A" and around the key as well.

I have a camera system and need to be able to have 2.4 & 5g separated for cameras. Can you turn off band steering?

yes, it's currently a 'Discover' feature and is off by default. If you mean can you define separate SSID's for the 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz networks, then no.

Does the UBD-M9700/ZA support the following: DTS-X, Dolby Atmos, Dolby Vision, HDR10+, and/or HDR10?

DTS-HD, Atmos, HDR10+, and HDR10. It doesn't support Dolby Vision. Don't know about DTS-X as that may be a bitstream passthrough.
