A Sequel to The Shining is... great??

Stanley Kubrick’s The Shining is considered a classic (unless you’re Stephen King). It seems like creative and career suicide to think you can make a sequel to his film. Realistically it would have been safer to make a standalone film and call it an adaptation to the novel and stay as far away from Kubrick’s film altogether... but thankfully this movie dared to be both! It works great in being respectful to both sources and is worth a watch!
The 4K blu-ray is top notch, and the director’s cut is a superior version of the film. If I had one gripe (which does remove one star) is that the 4K disc is the theatrical cut only. Disappointing. Still highly recommended!

Juaquin Phoenix gives a career highlighting performance in this film as the titular character. However, comic book fans should realize this movie is not based on any particular comic book and is treated as a standalone film and story. If you like early Scorsese films, then you will have an idea of what this film is going for. The 4K blu-ray is a great release with excellent picture and audio quality.

It was 1969, and the lull at a once trendy hotel on the California/Nevada border ended with a rush of clientele including an aging priest (Jeff Bridges), a vacuum salesman (Jon Hamm), a drifter (Dakota Johnson), and a soul singer (Cynthia Erivo). However, agendas and identities aren't all what they seem... and between a hunt for hidden bank loot and cultists arriving at the door, no one should expect a good night's rest. Stylish contemporary noir co-stars Chris Hemsworth, Lewis Pullman, Cailee Spaeny.

Think Tarantino-lite and you’re not far off on what type of movie this is. All the actors are great even if a few get smaller roles than I may have liked.
Chris Hemsworth is the standout for me. He hasn’t played a role like this before and he knocks it out the park!

I like this movie a lot, and it definitely feels like a first chapter in a larger story. I do hope sequels are planned. This is also a great win for the dying 3D trend. I love 3D but choices for content are slimmer every year. If you like 3D, highly recommended.

Game of Thrones should have gone out as one of the greatest shows ever, and I thought it had a chance. However, this final season feels like a summary of the end of a story, rather than the end of a story.
It’s still enjoyable, and completists should definitely get it (I did).

I first saw this on VHS in the mid-90s, and loved it. I owned the DVD and in this modern age, the DVD looks terrible! This blu-ray, while not perfect, is likely as good as this series will ever look on a home video format. It isn’t particularly great compared to newer movies or series, but that is more due to limitations of the time I am assuming. This is a series that doesn’t hold up all the time, but if you grew up with it as I did, you will still enjoy it.

The Halloween franchise is a messy one, with a variety of continuities. It’s almost like a choose-your-path mythology! This latest Halloween bypasses all other sequels entirely. Therefore, Laurie Strode is not the sister to Michael Myers, H20 never happened, and is not related at all to the Rob Zombie films. However, it is a good movie and a worthy followup to the original movie! The blu-ray is of great quality, and worth checking out.
