I can get a bit long-winded when reviewing movies to which I have an emotional attachment. This is not one of those movies - this one was a blind buy, made solely with the intention of seeing what a current action film finished on a Digital Intermediate and transferred to a 4K/UHD disc would look in my home theater. OK, maybe it wasn't SOLELY that; I had also heard it was a fun and entertaining flick.
Anyhow, long story short, this movie looks fantastic projected in large size at 4K. Resolution, contrast, color - all phenomenal. Audio is potent as well. And sure enough, the movie itself is pretty darn fun and entertaining. For the Black Friday bargain price I paid, I am more than satisfied with my purchase.

This is a nice little charger. I think the 8000 mAh hits a sweet spot between capacity and bulk... there is enough juice for multiple full charges of my phone, but the unit has a nice and slim form-factor.
Like most other battery packs I've had, it has 1A and 2A outputs, which is nice. The blue LEDs on black casing looks cool and sleek. Just a nice package all around.
If you can get it on a sale, price should be comparable to some of the no-name brands out there, and less than established players like Anker, for the same capacity. But in terms of features and quality, this unit is closer to the latter (i.e. better than the "no-names").

Nothing like grievous bodily harm for the holidays

I am about the same age as Macaulay Culkin, so it is kind of a trip to watch these movies and remember when I was a precocious little blond boy just like the Kevin character (albeit without the penchant for savage booby-trapping).
It's also funny thinking about watching the movies at various stages of my life. As a kid, I was simply entertained by the slapstick violence. Then as a cynical teen, I felt compelled to point out that the wet bandits would be maimed and/or dead about 20 times over through the events of the film. Now as an adult, the movie itself almost fades into the background, behind feelings of nostalgia and memories of past Christmases.
But enough philosophizing.
These movies have become Christmas classics, and chances are you already have them on DVD. But for the price, this package makes it well worth upgrading. The Blu-Rays make the old DVDs look almost unwatchable by comparison.
And another nice thing - only the first two movies (i.e. the good ones) are included, so you don't end up burdened with the later garbage sequels!

"Desert Island" anime...

You know how people sometimes talk about how if they were stranded on a desert island, and could only have one ________ (book, music album, etc)? Well if I were on a desert island and could have just one Anime, this would be it.
This is a seminal, hugely influential film, both in terms of story/setting and in terms of style. It tells a fully-formed story at a perfect pace, and does not weigh you down with too much exposition... you get enough information to follow along and be no more confused than the characters themselves, yet enough is left open that some intriguing mystery remains (and the viewer can explore much of that in the extensive Manga on which the movie is based).
As for the Blu-Ray disc - the image quality is hugely improved over the old VHS and DVD releases (as well it should be), and there is enough going on in every frame that the 1080p resolution is put to good use. Audio is outstanding as well.
I could go on, but I'll keep it simple. Even if you're not necessarily an Anime fan, this movie deserves a place in your collection.

This is one of the first movies I remember going to see as a kid, but since it is from the quiet period in Disney animation (before their late-80's to '90s renaissance) it seems to have been forgotten by many. Pretty sure the last time I saw this was on a VHS tape, so I was very happy to see it get a Blu-Ray release. In typical Disney Animation fashion, this is a very solid release, and looks as good on my home theater as it probably did at the cinema where I originally saw it. I find that the movie still holds up well; not too surprising, given its story is rooted in a Dickens novel. Perhaps a little surprising is how well some of the songs still hold up - I'll admit I went and added "Why Should I Worry" to my playlist after watching the movie!

I still remember going to see Jurassic Park in the theater when I was a kid. I was the prototypical "boy who won't shut up about dinosaurs," so naturally I found the movie thrilling. Now on UHD, I think the film looks and sounds even better in my home theater than it did when I saw it at the cinema all those years ago. And the sequels are even better yet (in A/V quality, that is; while enjoyable in their own right, they never quite hit the lofty heights of the first in terms of narrative).
I managed to snag this at Black Friday pricing, so this set of 4 movies was cheaper than an average single movie disc. But honestly, even at list price, this set would be worth it. And as a bonus, this set does not include the most recent (and absolutely awful) latest film in the series! :-)

I am making an effort to introduce my kids to movies I liked when I was younger. The Goonies came to mind as one to try, and I was surprised to find I didn't have it in my collection yet. This Blu-ray edition was on sale at a bargain-bin price, but the audio and video quality is up there with the best back catalog titles I've seen. And the movie itself is just as much fun now as it was 30+ years ago!
Side note - if you want to feel old, watch this right before or after Deadpool 2, and see Josh Brolin magically change between a teenager and a grumpy old man...

Ordered this when it was on a steep discount, with the intent of using it as a backup for the main vacuum (i.e. for small cleaning jobs). But while it is small, it makes up for its size in power! It is getting equal use (or maybe more) than the main vac.

Wanted a device that would essentially be like an Ipod Touch, but up-to-date and not tied to the Apple ecosystem. The best option seemed to be a prepaid Android phone, left inactivated (WiFi networking only).
