My kind of comic book movie

Deadpool 2 is right up there with the first movie... in fact, the extended cut comes awfully close to topping it!
Deadpool isn't for everyone (especially kids :-) ), but these movies really resonate with my sense of humor.
This sequel also injects a bit of drama and pathos that I absolutely did not expect, but it is actually really effective (and thankfully still tempered with Deadpool's unique brand of levity). The supporting characters are excellent, too - both those returning from the original as well as those introduced here. Josh Brolin's Cable steals almost every scene he is in, as the world-weary no-BS straight man foil to Deadpool. But I'd be remiss to not also give a shout-out to Domino, who edges in some great lines and action as well.
If you hated the first Deadpool, then you probably won't have much love for this one... but if you enjoyed the first, I think you'll find this one a worthy successor.

It's a close race between Blade Runner and The Fifth Element. Which one appears more times within a given individual's home video collection?
I really thought The Final Cut on HD-DVD / Blu-Ray would be it for Blade Runner. Where else do you go from there? Well as it turns out, there was even more awesome to be had... this UHD release (at least the main feature) is significantly superior in terms of image and sound.
For anyone who has never seen Blade Runner... THIS is the way to see it. If you like cyberpunk/sprawling high-tech megalopolis settings, this is must-see material, as it was hugely influential on numerous beloved properties that would follow... things like Ghost in the Shell, Syndicate [video game], and the Fifth Element and others drew major visual inspiration from this film.
But it's not all style... there is substance here, too.
But really, if you're interested in this release, you probably already know the film and own it on VHS, Laserdisc, DVD, and/or Blu-Ray. So then the question becomes, "is it worth rebuying?" And the answer is "YES! A resounding yes!" The higher resolution and bitrate makes a meaningful difference, HDR makes the neon and spinner sirens on those rain-soaked streets POP, and the Atmos audio track is incredible!

Return to the Potterverse

Extended universe movies can be a mixed bag - sometimes minor characters/subplots/references are better left unexplored.
But Fantastic Beasts is an example of how to do extended universe right. It's a fun film, which evokes the magic of the Harry Potter series, while managing not to feel like a rehash. It doesn't step on / retcon existing character arcs / plot lines. And on UHD, it lives up to its name (i.e. it looks fantastic!). Definitely worth adding to the collection.

Who doesn't love Winnie-the-Pooh?

My wife and kids have a major soft spot for Winnie-the-Pooh, and I'll admit that I find him pretty charming as well. This is a film with a lot of heart, and while I wasn't sure how well the characters would work outside of a traditional animation style, I'm happy to say my worries were unfounded. This film earns its place alongside the classic (and contemporary) Pooh movies.

Great family movie

Disney/Pixar movies are usually a safe bet, and this one is no exception. Pretty cool to see The Incredibles get a sequel; was a bit surprising so many years later. While this one doesn't quite reach the heights of the first (for me), it is a very enjoyable movie - and one I'm sure my kids will work into the regular animation rotation.

Finally, a worthy home video release

Predator - one of the great '80s action films. Still holds up today. But a perennial letdown on home video. Well, not any more - this UHD release is spectacular! A very film-like image, without the heavy-handed noise reduction that marred past releases.
Honestly, I'd have been happy getting just the first movie for the price I paid. Add in the other two (which also look and sound great, and are good movies in their own right, if not as iconic as the first) and this is a great package indeed!

Demo material, but so much more...

The Planet Earth series is just an incredible piece of work. The original still stands up even today, over a decade later. But this new series manages to clear the very high bar set by its predecessor!
Make no mistake - if you want to show off what 4K with HDR is all about, this is a great demo disc. I think every single episode had at least one moment that made me pause playback and just stare at the screen in awe.
But it's more than just great demo material. It's also very informative, and offers a chance to get a close-up look at species and habitats you'd likely otherwise never get to see. And there's even some emotion / tension mixed in, too (aquatic iguanas versus snakes scene, I'm talking about YOU). Wrap Attenborough's narration around it all, and you just can't lose.

It's the year 2029, and much of the world's mutant population has succumbed to a genocidal, man-made virus. As a down-and-out Logan (Hugh Jackman, in his final appearance as the character) comes to terms with his failing healing factor, he and an ailing Charles Xavier (Patrick Stewart) must protect Laura (Dafne Keen)-a young genetically bred mutant with powers similar to Logan's-from the evil organization that created her. With Richard E. Grant, Boyd Holbrook, Stephen Merchant. 137 min.

Not your average comic book movie...

It's funny - I was big into Marvel comics in the 90s (I had a particular affinity for the X-Men, especially Wolverine). And yet, I just can't seem to get into any of the flood of comic-book movies that have been pouring out of Hollywood for the past decade.
Well, this is not your average comic book movie. It is a smaller more personal story, and has a more world-weary tone. Yet it never veers into "gritty for grittiness' sake" territory. It almost felt like a Western in some ways. It wasn't what I expected, but I mean that in a good way.
As for the disc - this is another one that really shows off what 4K and HDR can do. What's kind of funny is, I usually think of enhanced chroma resolution and color gamut as big advantages of the UHD format... and yet, one of the things that impressed me most on this disk was the black-and-white version that was included... it's really cool, and almost plays out like a different film, due to the film-noir look. One of the more impressive "bonus features" I've seen.

I really enjoyed this movie!

I am not deeply familiar with the original Ghost in the Shell Anime - but I am aware of it, particularly the influences that fed into it, and the influence it would go on to have. So I'm not really one to judge whether this film was a faithful adaptation of the source material.
What I can say is, this was a beautiful film with incredible production design! The cyberpunk setting is executed to perfection, recalling shades of Blade Runner, Syndicate/Syndicate Wars, and other seminal works. The look of the main characters was distinctive and interesting, with great casting (and - no surprise - Scarlett was stunning as usual). The story kept me engaged, with enough depth to tie the action sequences together, but admittedly a little shallow in the interest of keeping things moving. Little touches, like the brief cameo by Michael Wincott (a criminally underused actor, in my opinion) were appreciated as well.
So what about the disc itself? Well, I would say it benefited from 4K resolution and HDR for sure. It is largely a dark movie, but there are a handful of scenes that really jump off the screen - the cityscapes are an obvious example, and another highlight (no pun intended) was the attack with the electrified cattle-prod type weapons.

Stunning in 4K with HDR

This movie was a lot of fun, with too many pop culture references to count. On UHD blu-ray, it looks even better at home than on the big screen! Detail abounds, and several scenes really take advantage of HDR with highlights that pop.

For those looking for the best in the latest television technologies, the U8H should be a top contender. The most exciting 2022 upgrade is Mini-LED. With Mini-LEDs that are 50x smaller than traditional LED lights, local dimming and contrast control reproduce incredible black and white levels within the same scene like never before in the series. The U8H is now compatible with the Wifi 6e router protocol. Streaming from the wide selection of Google TV apps is now easier and smoother when connected to a dedicated router channel that won~t be competing with other connected devices on the same router. For gamers, the U8H now comes equipped with Dolby Vision Gaming and FreeSync Premium Pro for enhanced gaming picture contrast and even smoother, tear-free motion. And lastly, the U8H now comes with a 2-year warranty and is available in a 75~ screen size. 2021 was a huge year for the Hisense U8H series and with so many upgrades, 2022 looks to be just as promising.

What is the height in inches (excluding black bars) of a film with a 2.39.1 aspect ratio on this 65 inch Hisense U8H Series model?

This 65" model's specifications show an actual screen/image size of 64.5" diagonal. The screen has a native aspect ratio of 16:9, so the maximum full image width and height are 56.2 inches and 31.6 inches, respectively.

When playing a Cinemascope/2.39:1 film in its original aspect ratio, the image will take up the full width of 56.2 inches, but the height will be reduced to 23.5 inches (diagonal size is about 60.9 inches).

www.screen-size.info has a nice calculator for checking out scenarios like this. There are others out there too, but this one lets you freely input your aspect ratio instead of having to choose from a pre-defined list.
