This remaster and package was one of the last things Fox had put together before their sale to Disney finalized. So the mouse basically picked up the prepackaged deal and said "here you go." Thankfully they did, cause the release looks wonderfully filmic and the color just pops on a well calibrated 4K screen! the steelbook is also really fun and has slightly embossed titling which is a nice touch!

If you ever wondered what GOODFELLAS would be like if Henry Hill was a girl and grew up across the street from a strip club, this answers all those questions for you. The 4K release looks very good.

For over a century, the foreboding Hill House mansion has sat abandoned~ or so it seemed. Intrigued by its past, Dr. Marrow lures three subjects to the site for an experiment. But, from the moment of their arrival, as night descends, the study goes horrifyingly away, and Hill House unleashes its supernatural wrath on the unsuspecting subjects. Newly remastered from a 4K film transfer, supervised by director Jan de Bont, this adaptation features Oscar-winner Catherine Zeta-Jones, Liam Neeson, Lili Taylor and Owen Wilson.

This Dreamworks film finally makes its way to bluray via…The Paramount Presents Collection. It doesn’t make too much sense, even with Dreamworks falling under the Paramount mountain., but then again either does Owen Wilson’s casting in a horror flick. The PP series has MOSTLY been good (I’m angrily looking at you, whoever DNR’d the VistaVision of Hitchcock’s To Catch a Thief) But the series has it’s releases come in a slipcover that flaps out to reveal original poster art, it’s not gonna seduce the Vinegar Syndrome fetishists (*slowly raises hand*) but is a nice touch.
The video here is a Solid 4.5, based on a new 4K transfer, but the real treat is the audio. This was the second film, after The Phantom Menace, to be mixed in the then state the art Dolby EX system, and was a legendary mix. Even lossy on DVD it would cause structural damage to your house, like Hugh Crane himself doing a little redecorating. While the bass has been toned down some, the lossless bluray mix hasn’t lost any potency - it can still get you yelled at by your neighbors or sleeping wife.
The bonus features includes trailers, an archival run of the mill documentary hosted by Catherine Zeta Jones, and a new interview with Jan De Bont, where he comes across as proud of the film but admits it’s flaws as well. If you're a fan, or if you're like me and are a glutton for the film’s sets and sound mix even though you know what you're in for, it comes highly recommended.

I've always quite fancied the artwork they use for the cover of this steelbook, so it was a must buy. It's not a perfect master (no Nolan 4K is with his penchant for scanning IP's instead of original negatives as he wants to replicate his theatrical look as closely as possible) but it does look VERY good and certainly like it did in theaters.
Those zero g hotel hallway scenes are still bangers, and I still don’t know how this didn’t get nominated for best film editing. I do wish Nolan would embrace Dolby Atmos immersive audio, but this sounds as good as you'd expect from a lossless 5.1 mix of a academy award winning sound work.

For a long time Universal had a terrible reputation for how they treated their back catalogue, even into the Blu-ray era. It was well warranted with their overuse of various filtering, DNR, and sharpening which led to their massive library of classic films looking like...video. This unfortunately included the bluray remaster of the BACK TO THE FUTURE trilogy. But they started turning a corner some years back, and now in the 4K UHD era have been releasing some amazing presentations of that legendary library. That now includes the BTTF trilogy, which I can unequivocally say is a top notch presentation that looks/sounds GLORIOUS in Dolby vision and Atmos, while still respecting the original intent of Dean Cundey's cinematography. Most importantly, they look like film - LIKE THE TWO BOBS (Gale and Zemeckis) INTENDED!
Celebrate the 25th anniversary of this beloved masterpiece starring Johnny Depp and directed by Tim Burton. Depp delivers the performance that launched his career, as Edward, an irresistibly charming creation with razor-sharp metal hands and a heart of gold. Edward's lonely life in a Gothic castle changes forever when he meets a kindhearted Avon Lady (Dianne Wiest), who takes him to a pastel paradise known as Suburbia. Thanks to his fantastic talents, Edward becomes a neighborhood sensation, but when he falls in love with Kim (Winona Ryder), he must go to extraordinary lengths to protect her.

I hadn't seen this movie in several years, but I've been revisiting Tim Burton's filmography a lot recently. It's still a wonderful movie that fits right in with Christmas time ("You can still see dancing in it...") and the audio and particularly the video are VERY good on this release.
The only downside is the bonus features, of which there is very little. The archival featurette is fun to watch to see everyone back then when they were young and in full marketing mode.

The steelbook art and finish is catchy and better than alot of the other releases for this flick. The 4K is very good - the video isn't a major upgrade, but very solid, Dolby Atmos mix however isa major upgrade and will give anyone with a solid system quite the workout!
There's a new interview with the flicks director and one of the Wachowski's that's worth a watch as well.

Stephen Hopkins was making some underrated thriller machines in the 90's - PREDATOR 2, JUDGMENT NIGHT, and BLOWN AWAY all quickly come to mind. Blown Away's biggest problem is the accents of Bridges and Jones - which is funny because they did amazing accents during filming but test audiences couldn't understand them. So they re-dubbed it and...audiences still couldn't understand them. So they re-dubbed it a second time and...audiences liked the film but called the accents fake!
Anyhow, it's a good looking and especially good sounding bluray release. Hopkins always delivers good solid audio commentaries as well, for those into that sort of thing.

It took 16 years for us to get a third GODFATHER film and it's taken 17 years for us to get a third BAD BOYS film. The sequel is fun, and their chemistry is still there and strong, though I could've done without that Michael Bay cameo.
I'm not really a fan of the "IMAX ENHANCED" Sony releases, I wish they would just do their normal UHD process which looks phenomenal and utilizes Dolby Atmos sound mixes, here we have a still solid DTS X mix. The movie looks a little TOO much like ultra hd VIDEO at times (ie not as filmic as the earlier two titles), but all in all, is a pretty amazing looking title.
The steelbook is nice and goes along with my steelbook of the first two films.

TO CATCH A THIEF was filmed in the VISTAVISION format. If you don't know, this was a format Paramount created in the 50's when movies were going widescreen and beyond, coming up with new ways to combat television. It was a format in which 35mm film was loaded sideways so it could get a larger exposure of film that could fit right in 70mm. Cleaner, sharper, more detailed and colorful images were produced.
This scan was done in 6K and should look GLORIOUS. Unfortunately, someone decided to lather this thing in digital noise reduction, so that the film never looks as detailed as it should. Not even close. While the color timing is overall closer to where it needs to be, someone decided to do a blanket "day of night deep blue" filter over all the night scenes. Hitchcock had this filmed with a green filter to help give the night scenes a unique, more steely nature to them. That is now gone.
This disc also got rid of some of the bonus materials of the earlier release. That release is far from perfect - it has edge enhancement among other things, but it's better than this.
