Dead Pixels is really funny!
on October 10, 2022
Posted by: zerothevillain
Dead Pixels is a hilarious BBC show about Millennials involved in a World of Warcraft-like game that dominates their lives. It aired on the CW network in the US, but with a lot of swear words bleeped out and a few images pixelated. I highly recommend the DVD version, because nothing is edited or softened for family viewing.

It's a Very Hot Spot
on May 7, 2021
Posted by: zerothevillain
Verified Purchase:Yes
"The Hot Spot" is a great neo-noir film (directed by the late Dennis Hopper) from 1990. "The Hot Spot" stars Don Johnson, Virginia Madsen, and Jennifer Connelly. Expect plenty of sex and nudity, as well as a very hard-boiled noir story--using many classical film noir elements. Don Johnson is a drifter who blows into a small Texas town and quickly gets embroiled in sexy shenanigans with his bosses wife and the girl who handles the accounts at the business. Bank robbery, blackmail, and murder follow.

The horrors of war brought to the home front
on April 2, 2021

"Crossfire" is an underappreciated classic film from 1947, directed by great film noir director Edward Dmytryk. It has three great Roberts in it--Robert Mitchum, Robert Ryan, and Robert Young--and an excellent supporting cast. It is a timeless tale of the dangers of hate. A young soldier returning from duty in World War Two is murdered by a fellow soldier who despises him because of his religion/ethnic background. Robert Mitchum plays a soldier who aids a veteran police detective (Robert Young) in his search for the murderer.

"After the Thin Man" is a timeless classic!
on January 30, 2021

Verified Purchase:Yes
If you're a fan of classic Hollywood films, "After the Thin Man" is something you'd probably enjoy. The film has been cleaned up (no effects of the passage of time or damaged prints here), but the film stock can't help but look a bit grainy--since the film was made in the 1930s, when any kind of digital filmmaking was over a generation away. This is the second in the excellent "Thin Man" series of films, which is about an often-drinking detective and his heiress wife solving crimes together with their cute dog (and if that sounds familiar, "Hart to Hart" totally ripped off the premise in the 80s). William Powell and Myrna Loy play Nick and Nora Charles, the couple in question. Also, look for a young Jimmy Stewart in a supporting role.

The Vulture flies again!
on January 22, 2021

This figure for The Vulture brings back one of Spider-Man's early and deadly foes. The Vulture has a different head included, depending on which era of Vulture you want to simulate. But neither of the heads are the Michael Keaton version of the Vulture from the new Spider-Man films. This figure is definitely more of the comic-book version of The Vulture.

From John Carpenter comes this chilling tale of a primordial essence unleashed from it's prison of seven million years by scientists. We don't know what the evil-looking liquid is in that ancient container, but with hordes of creepy crawlies around it, and a glow that turns folks into zombies, we bet it isn't Moxie. Donald Pleasence, Jameson Parker star. 102 min. Widescreen; Soundtrack English; Subtitles English. Two-disc set.

Terrible transfer from a bad source
on January 22, 2021

I did enjoy "Prince of Darkness," once upon a time. I'm a John Carpenter fan. But as a more mature viewer, the film is more a collection of scenes and scientific theories--involving tachyons!--stuck to a bizarre premise (what if the Catholic Church has been keeping "the devil" in a tube in a church basement in LA for roughly 500 years?) rather than a coherent tale. My main problem with this re-issue of the film is that it looks TERRIBLE in 4K. There was NO remastering done that I can see. On my big 4K TV, the dark scenes were full of visual "noise" and "artifacts." It looked like the film was transferred from a bad VHS copy to 4K.

The Kingpin wants a word with you...

This Kingpin figure from the Spider-Man series (not the Legends series) is large and in charge. You definitely get the intimidation factor the Kingpin can put into someone when you stand this figure beside a regular sized action figure. He looks awesome! And you also have a "battle damage" head to swap with his regular one when he has to take the fight to Spider-Man, Daredevil, or The Punisher.

The most confusing movie I've ever seen.
on January 8, 2021

This is a well-crafted film, and it is very enjoyable to look at. But the story made no sense to me whatsoever. I got the general idea of it, but the physics and science of it all were way beyond me. And I'm a smart guy. Also, they mumble half the dialogue. If I watch it again, I'll do so with subtitles. If you get this kind of stuff, more power to you. It gave me a headache trying to figure it out.

Buck Rogers rules the polyester spandex future!
on December 27, 2020

If you're a fan of this series, this set is a must buy. Buck and friends have never looked better. And the separate "pilot" movie contains footage I've never seen before. The "broadcast" version of the pilot episode(s) is included with season one as well. All I can say about season two, however, is that it looks good. The rebooted plot of the show for season two did NOT work well compared to the awesome season one.

Like five generations of his forebears, hard-bitten Montana ranch patriarch John Dutton (Kevin Costner) has ridden herd on America's largest contiguous spread... but between his declining health, his emotional gulf with his willful kids, and ever dicier border dustups with the government, developers, and the neighboring reservation, the trail's never been harder. Taylor Sheridan's hit contemporary western from Paramount Network co-stars Luke Grimes, Kelly Reilly, Wes Bentley, Kelsey Asbille, Cole Hauser.10 episodes on 3 discs. 7 1/4 hrs. Widescreen; Soundtrack English.

Yellowstone continues to be a "Red State Fantasy."
on December 27, 2020

My girlfriend is the big Yellowstone fan, but I find in watchable in a "red state fantasy" kind of way. There are new plot twists and new guest stars for season 3, most notably Josh Holloway (Sawyer from "Lost") as a corporate raider. The supporting characters get more storylines in this season. The success of those depends on how much you like some of those supporting characters. All the main characters are either evolving or falling apart--or both!
