Great looking 4K movies, odd "extended" versions
on December 27, 2020

These films look amazing in 4K. But I took off some stars for the fact that the "extended" versions of these films are each on two separate discs. So you have to stop in the middle and switch discs. Lame! Aren't we past that kind of thing these days?

One of the best television shows ever made!

Battlestar Galactica is an AMAZING series. There is great writing and great actors doing what they do best. The begnning of the saga is basically the same story as in the 1970s version. The Humans of the 12 Colonies created Cylons to do all their menial tasks. The Cylons became sentient, rose up, and made war on the Humans. After the end of that first war, the Cylons waited and plotted and struck back in a devastating attack, leaving very few people and very few spacecraft alive. Led by the Battlestar Galactica, the remaining Humans flee across the galaxy from the relentless Cylons towards the mythical thirteenth colony of Earth. The twist? Between the two wars, the Cylons found a way to look human. There are multiple copies of any of 12 different faces. That means the Humans may be infiltrated by the Cylons. And some of these "sleeper agent" Cylons may not even know they're Cylons until they are activated...

Three great films that LOOK AMAZING in 4K. I kept having to pause to look at the level of detail and the vibrant nature of the colors.

A great film classic from the 1930s

This is a classic "screwball comedy" with the stars of "The Thin Man" films (playing different roles)--as well as Spencer Tracy! That's a fine pedigree for any movie. When Spencer Tracy's newspaper accidentally libels the richest girl in America (Myrna Loy) with a false story about her romantic life, Tracy hires a smooth-talking cad (William Powell) to make the libelous accusations seem true, so the rich girl can't sue their paper into bankruptcy.

Weird 1970s sci-fi movie

I won't lie, this movie is TERRIBLE. But it's terrible in a fun "Mystery Science Theater 3000" kind of way. I love the "stop-motion" animated aliens.

After an inexplicable force decimated her reservation, Native American teen Dani (Blu Hunt) awoke in a foreboding facility. She's apprised with the four other young Inchin-patientsInch-Rahne (Maisie Williams), Ilyana (Anya Taylor-Joy), Sam (Charlie Heaton), and Roberto (Henry Zaga)-that they're mutants who need to learn to harness their strange abilities... and also, that they're not free to leave. Josh Boone's dark, long-shelved take on Marvel's next-gen X-Men co-stars Alice Braga, Adam Beach. 94 min. Widescreen; Soundtrack English. Two-disc set.

One of 2020s few Superhero movies

This is a weird, quirky take on "The New Mutants" comic from the 80s. In the comics, these young mutants were the standout students at Xavier's school--junior X-Men, in other words. In this story, they are prisoners at a special hospital until their mutant powers are "safe" for humanity. "The New Mutants" is more a of a horror movie than an average superhero film. I liked it more than I thought I would. There are some good actors, and the story is interesting.

Sherilyn Fenn!

This twist on "Beauty and the Beast" is notable only for the unclothed on-screen antics of Sherilyn Fenn of "Twin Peaks" fame. This film and "Two Moon Junction" are her best films. If this kind of "Friday Night After Dark" sexy film doesn't appeal to you, steer clear.

When a group of cannibal savages kidnaps settlers from the small town of Bright Hope, an unlikely team of gunslingers, led by Sheriff Franklin Hunt (Kurt Russell), sets out to bring them home. But their enemy is more ruthless than anyone could have imagined, putting their mission - and survival itself - in serious jeopardy. Kurt Russell (The Hateful Eight, Tombstone) leads an all-star cast, including Patrick Wilson (Insidious), Matthew Fox (Lost) and Richard Jenkins (The Visitor) in this gritty, action-packed thriller chronicling a terrifying rescue mission in the Old West.

Halloween Western!

Bone Tomahawk is a Halloween Western for us all. Any fans of the Red, Dead Redemption games will feel right at home in this grim tale of Old West rescue. Kurt Russell leads a great cast as the sheriff who helps hunt for townsfolk kidnapped by a tribe of "troglodyte" cannibal Indians.

Star Trek Picard features Sir Patrick Stewart reprising his iconic role as Jean-Luc Picard, which he played for seven seasons on Star Trek The Next Generation. The new series will follow this iconic character into the next chapter of his life.

Slow to start, but gets moving eventually
on October 13, 2020
Posted by: zerothevillain
Verified Purchase:Yes
The first three or four episodes of "Star Trek: Picard" are pretty slow-moving and full of exposition. There's a large conflict, I feel, between "fan service" and telling a complex, adult story. And they have to explain what Picard's been up to for 20 years--since the events of the "Star Trek: Nemesis" film. That means a metric ton of exposition that sometimes feels like watching homework, even to someone like me who read the "pre-Picard" novel they put out to make the exposition process easier.
Once the main story really gets rolling, however, there is a lot of good stuff going on right up until the ending--which seems to contradict the series finale of Star Trek: The Next Generation. The casting choices of the "new" characters includes a lot of non "sci-fi" actors who seem somewhat lost in the shadow of Picard and leery of the "Star Trek" experience.
You will see three members of the cast of Star Trek: The Next Generation in "Picard," plus some former Borg you will likely recognize.

Zombeavers is scary bad
on October 3, 2020
Posted by: zerothevillain
Verified Purchase:Yes
Zombeavers is more of a comedy that a horror film. Yes, there are zombie beavers. They're bad CGI and Muppet-looking puppets. There are pretty girls, one of whom likes to walk around without clothes, and college dudes and rustic folks. And guest stars! Look for singer John Mayer in his first film role. And stay for the Sinatra-style Zombeavers song over the end credits.
