Rick and Morty continues to be awesome!!!

Season four of Rick and Morty was split in half when it aired, but you get the whole season here. The later episodes are full of plenty of meta-storytelling and fan service. Lots of plotlines get addressed. And the trademark crazy "Rick and Morty" humor is always there. Check it out!

A literal boatload of stars
on September 18, 2020

The Agatha Christie murder mysteries filmed in the 70s and early 80s were full to bursting with stars of the past looking for a way to show off their skills. "Death on the Nile" has a long list of famous actors--David Niven and Bette Davis, to name just two--as the many suspects aboard the Karnak, a steamer cruising down the Nile river in Egypt. A young heiress on her honeymoon is murdered and there is an abundance of suspects, due to the fact that she was as cruel as she was beautiful. The quality of this restored/remastered Blu-Ray is top-notch as well.

The Sins of the Father

"Prodigal Son" is a thriller for the modern era. It's basically a more "family first" (it not family friendly) version of Silence of the Lambs. The father is a brilliant serial killer and former surgeon, locked away in a relatively posh asylum for his crimes. The son is a former FBI profiler who needs his father's insights on the job as an NYPD consultant. The mother is a wealthy and manipulative socialite who wants to erase her former husband. The daughter is an ambitious newscaster who thinks dear old dad might make good ratings. Does that sound good? if so, check out Prodigal Son.

Soldier...Spy...Gangster...Butler?
on September 8, 2020

"Pennyworth" is the story of Bruce Wayne's future butler and father figure, from the people who brought us "Gotham." So this is a tale of an alternate "Swinging London" period of the 60s--when Alfred was much younger. While there are NO superpowers in the story, there are some exotic and over the top villains to be found. Only one of them gets anything like a costume, however. In this timeline, London is torn between rich fascists and poor "progressive" workers. Those two factions, much like in the video game Bioshock Infinite, are preparing for war. Alfred, himself, is basically a gangster. He comes home from war with PTSD, puts on a good suit, and takes up a violent trade as a problem solver. He finds himself working with all manner of shady characters--like spies and actual gangsters. This show is an interesting prequel to "Gotham," and it shows how their more "butt-kicking butler" came to be who he was.

It's a shockingly good animated feature

Wow...I had no expectations going in, and Justice League Dark: Apokolips War really impressed me. It puts the entire DC Universe in dire peril and on the brink of total annihilation. If only the live-action DC movies and the CW TV shows were this good. I would say that this animated film is DC's belated answer to the Marvel "Infinity War" and "Endgame" films.

The Flash is going nowhere fast
on September 6, 2020

Other than the excellent "Crisis on Infinite Earths," this season for ALL of the Arrow-verse shows on the CW was pretty lackluster. The Flash ended early due to the pandemic, so it was hard to say if they could have salvaged this season in the final three episodes. The problem with The Flash in season six is uninteresting villains and putting the focus on "Team Flash" (for social justice purposes?) rather than on The Flash himself. I still don't know why they've got Plastic/Elongated Man on the show. He adds nothing.

In this addictive crime drama, fugitive ex-government agent Raymond InchRedInch Reddington (James Spader) emerges from hiding and makes his FBI captors an offer they cannot refuse, by offering his expert help in helping them nab the most elusive terrorists on his Inchblacklist.Inch His single condition is that he be partnered with rookie agent Elizabeth Keen (Megan Boone)-for reasons the darkly enigmatic antihero might eventually reveal. With Diego Klattenhoff, Harry Lennix.19 episodes on 5 discs. 13 1/2 hrs. Widescreen; Soundtrack English.

The Blacklist keeps getting longer...and longer
on September 6, 2020

The ongoing "cold war" between the man calling himself Raymond Reddington and his protege Elizabeth Keen is evolving in season 7. The main sticking point is Keen's mother, a ruthless former KGB spy. Elizabeth has to choose between her mother and Reddington in a duel to the death that is brewing between them. The final episode of this pandemic-truncated season is partly animated because they couldn't finish filming in time. James Spader is still great and some of the supporting cast is as well. Other people on the show seem to be looking for the exits.

The Best of Nirvana
on August 4, 2020
Posted by: zerothevillain
Verified Purchase:Yes
The "MTV Unplugged in New York" CD is the best performance of Nirvana, bar none. That raw and raucous and untamed energy they often had in their live shows is not present here. This is the band stripped down to just the music, with very little theatrics or drama. You won't get the visceral thrills of Kurt Cobain screaming or the guitars squealing in disharmony, but you do get some of the best songs ever performed by Nirvana before Kurt Cobain's suicide.

Your neighbor might be a monster...
on August 4, 2020

HBO's "The Outsider" is a hybrid of a procedural police drama and supernatural monster story. It starts out as a grim police drama and then gets more and more strange as the show proceeds. A very uncommon detective is brought in, and the posse of otherwise level-headed police professionals go on a monster hunt. The writing and acting are top-notch. The pace of the story is sometimes glacially slow, however. But if you're willing to wait until the later episodes for the real action to occur, it's worth watching "The Outsider."

Fun, silly, and scary New Zealand vampires.
on August 4, 2020
Posted by: zerothevillain
Verified Purchase:Yes
"What We Do in the Shadows" is a vampire mock-u-mentary by Taika Waititi and Jemaine Clement. It has a camera crew following a house of four vampires in New Zealand as they try to live their normal lives. These vampires are hundreds of years old, for the most part, and the modern world presents them with a lot of challenges. The occasional "horror" aspects of the film are surprisingly well-crafted. They did a lot with a small budget. The actors, other than Clement and Waititi, are somewhat amateurish. But the film is mostly good fun and worth checking out. The Blu-Ray version is BD-R, if that makes a difference.
