A nice SteelBook for a good 4K (with Dolby Vision)

I like the SteelBook packaging on this re-release. The SteelBook has a matte finish with a screenshot from the movie on the inside.
The transfer here looks good; the best version of this movie on any home format. Unlike the previous release, this gets the Dolby Vision treatment. While I cannot compare them, I can say it looks great. Highlights are not overblown. This is an older movie and the HDR adds some depth but doesn't go overboard. The 4K upgrade is nice with detail and film grain intact. A shot or two is soft; I seem to recall a shot of Bill that was particularly noticeable.
The audio here is serviceable for the type of film on display. Crown noise and music sounds good and fills the space. There is a little LFE when the truck explodes, but again, this is not a showcase disc.
This is a film to put on and enjoy on a lazy afternoon and when it is done you feel a bit better. Other films have come along and treat similar ground, but still added something new and made entertaining films (Edge of Tomorrow, Palm Springs, etc.). This is where it started.
I do recommend this 4K upgrade for fans of the film.

We are very happy with our unit so far. I set it up quickly and connected it to our wifi network after downloading the app. The whole process was quick and went smoothly. I like that I can monitor the humidity level from my phone and adjust the humidity level or even power off/on the unit. If we ever finish our basement it will be nice to have the remote shutoff feature on my phone or using Alexa when I want it to be a bit quieter, but honestly, the unit is pretty quiet. We also use the continuous drain into our sump and it works well.

Sony reissued Cliffhanger in a nice SteelBook package with Dolby Vision grading, which was not available in the previous release with the slipcover. The SteelBook is matte with photos from the film on the front, back, inside, and on both the Blu-ray and 4K UHD discs.
How does it look and sound? Amazing. From the opening scenes you experience the Dolby Atmos audio. It's done well. Upgraded, but not in any way distracting or feeling out of place from the original audio experience. This track can get loud and thunderous at times; avalanches, gunshots, helicopter rotors all have presence. Dialogue is clear, as well.
The Dolby Vision here looks great. The picture has plenty of detail and the mountains are gorgeous. The white of snow shines like never before and this is an upgrade over the Blu-ray, but if you have the previous release with HDR10, perhaps not so much. Still, I like the packaging here and I did not own the previous release, so I am happy Sony reissued this one.

Easy Install and Works Great!

As others have said, the install is simple and quick. Just take off your existing plate cover on an outlet and slip this one into place. All you need is a screwdriver. The light to indicate a USB device is charging is red or green depending on the port being used. Now we don't have to consume a normal ground plug on the outlet to charge our devices.

The colors are not flat and the images truly stand out with the guys and the aliens having outlines around them that make them "pop" against the background. It has a nice shine to it and but it isn't glossy. A highly-recommended item for those who are fans of this film.

Best SteelBook of 2023?

If this movie is to your taste, you are going to love this release. First of all, the SteelBook packaging is stunning. Absolutely one of the best of 2023! The slipcase includes the beautiful original poster art with a gloss black. Slip it off and the SteelBook includes this gorgeous dragon artwork on the front and back with different images. So, no, it is not a wrap-around pieces, but, oh, is it amazing.
Pop it into your 4K player and be further amazed by the incredible restoration work done on this classic 80s fantasy film. The film grain is there. The detail is present. The colors look spot-on and the HDR delivers some highlights but it does not go overboard.
The Dolby Atmos is also bringing an enhancement to the audio presentation. It is full and there are some overhead affects, but it does not overdo it in this department either.
This is a definite must-own for any fan of the film. It also may entice others to enjoy it and add it to their collections to watch again and again.

The artwork on this Steelbook had me sold. But you may wonder how is the quality of this upgrade over the former HD releases. After all, there were two releases; a former studio release and a previous release from Shout! Factory. Well, I am happy to say that the upgrade here truly is worth it for those with a good 4K HDR display. The HDR brings added depth to the picture and there is detail aplenty. The Dolby Atmos audio is no slouch either. If you're a fan of this film, you will want this upgrade and you will certainly want this Steelbook.

A stunning conclusion to the Daniel Craig 007 films. The movies itself is satisfying. The presentation here in 4K HDR is stunning. The locations look incredible. The HDR here brings a lot to the table and shows off a good display's capabilities. The audio is no slouch either. In fact, I'd say this is a demo-worthy disc. Great stuff!

Absolutely worth the upgrade to 4K. I have the previous Blu-ray from Scream Factory and I wasn't sure a 4K upgrade would benefit this film much. Boy, was I wrong. The picture is very pleasing. Film grain is intact but not heavy. The reds and lights of the opening scene pop and create a picture with more depth. Details can be seen in faces, clothing, and the effects. Oh, the effects. Though little of the werewolves is shown, what we get looks amazing and the transformation scene has never been more grotesque. The previous Blu-ray is included and it has loads of very interesting special features that I also thoroughly enjoyed after watching the film. The Howling is a classic. Buy it!

I got the slipcover, but I was in the store. Currently, all issued should have the slip. The wrapping is over the slipcover. At some point they might stop issuing slipcovers, but they are on the early runs out there now. So, even ordering online you should receive one.

I have a Samsung 3D capable th, that I have played 3d bluray discs on. My samsung BD payer doesn't function anymore. Will this play 3d discs faithfully?
