A great Broadway to Hollywood

I had this DVD years ago and just replaced it. Just as enjoyable as the first time viewing it. Having seen the original Broadway show, I was at first, skeptical, but definitely not disappointed. Music keeps you going. Michael Douglas great as usual. The movie gives you an idea how shows are put together and the ups and downs of the cast members competing for the parts offered. The finale song, "One" is just as great as the Broadway show. A lot of critics panned the DVD, but I feel that possibly the critics don't like musicals and probably just dramas, thus giving this movie a low rating. You won't be disappointed watching this movie. Enjoy!

Intriguing and Charming

Not a lot of movies these days trust in the intelligence of its audience. Logan's Run takes that leap: it doesn't overexplain the mechanics of its world. It drops you into the thick of things, and through the eyes of a Sandman, lets you discover along with him the truth and fiction of a world made entirely of young people.
The film presents its sci-fi effects gleefully like a proud child. Some are dazzling like the "Carrousel" scene, with the multicolor audience and Cirque du Soleil-style acrobatics. Some...haven't aged as well, but maintain a level of charming cheese as you watch what is definitely a toy monorail model buzz through its mini scenery.
The characters are also good...enough. Logan 6's motivations do seem odd and hard to completely follow (his genuine conversion to sympathize with runners occurs under our noses), and Jessica's curiosity and conspicuous independence from the beginning seem to dissipate until she's basically just Logan's female companion. But Michael York and Jessica Agutter are fine actors and sell the adventure anyway. (Farah Fawcett on the other hand...what was that about? Who decided to make her character a monosyllabic airhead caught in the headlights?)

A great sequel

Ignore judgments about reality, morality or logic, and watch this as an exercise in pure filmmaking and you will be free to see a quite well done film. Directing skill, technical creativity, good plot and suitably competent acting yield a well-constructed movie. Most fans of 'Walking Dead' films should find it quite entertaining. Even the average viewer, with a fair tolerance for blood and ravenous people hunting other people, should enjoy it for the cinematic qualities. If one wants to get into moral issues ( I didn't), there are enough to keep you yelling at each other in a group for the rest of the (day) (evening). I suppose I have only one hesitant technical complaint: the idea of instant infection by wounding and instantaneous "mad" behavior was hard to swallow.
If you are a zombie-film follower this is for you. If you go for well planned horror films, ditto. If you just go for good films, the same goes. If you are squeamish, forget it.

Exceptional

An experimental laboratory in which animals have been infected with the virus of a disease for which a cure was being sought is invaded by an animal rights group and the animals let loose on the population. The plague almost instantly affects humans who spread it rapidly among themselves until the Island which is the United Kingdom is depopulated of all but a few unaffected individuals and many infected ones. It would appear that the larger world has also been affected but that is not directly of consequence for the plot. As we have seen in frequent theatrical and television productions recently, a few survivors come together and seek to find some other group(s) like themselves with whom, somehow, they can ride out the storm, so to speak, until they can recreate some form of group life again.
Nothing in this is new on the media scene today. What struck me sufficiently to single this movie out is simply the high quality with which every aspect of the process was performed. It's a case of doing roughly the same job only doing it better.
If your taste runs to this subgenre, you will not want to miss this film. If you want to see what model is being used by such films, this is a good one to try, since there is less visible violence and bloodletting than is to be found in the average of the type. I am not an aficionado, but found this rather simple version quite interesting to watch.

Very relevant for our times

This film seems vastly more relevant to me right now than it did when I first saw it (not long after it was released). Definitely stands the test of time - the acting and production values are excellent. It's a very compelling view of a dystopian future that seems disturbingly possible, especially right now. Inspirational in it's own way, but also a terrifying punch to the gut.

A classic tale of revenge
on December 19, 2018

This is the second half of Quinton Taranto's "pulp fiction" masterpiece of revenge.
The movie is pulp fiction purposely in its superficial characters and clichéd story line. However, the execution of those characters and story is so engrossing, so raw in entertainment and excitement that the viewer is riveted continuously. Taranto's genius is his ability to get us to have strong emotional reactions to his characters and situations of story. His dialogue alone is so intriguing, so captivating that one will enjoy the movie on that issue along with the others.
Of course, see both parts one after the other; just lock the doors, turn off the phone, and become immersed. This is Hollywood movie enjoyment at its peak, vastly above the embarrassingly simplistic and boring "tween's" movies pumped out today to the last category of people with money to spend going to the movies. Oh, after you come down a bit from KILL BILL, wait a few days and lock the door again to watch all of Taranto's masterworks

A flick for everyone
on December 19, 2018

I first heard about this movie several years ago when it was in theaters, but I did not know what it was about until I watched it on TV. This extremely action-packed martial arts flick, directed by Quentin Tarantino, centers on a bride and professional assassin, (played by Uma Thurman), who seeks revenge after Bill, her former martial arts master and boss (played by David Carradine) turns on her and attempts to kill her at her wedding. This movie has something for everyone---the martial arts action of any number of Jackie Chan movies, the covert operations of a James Bond movie, the swashbuckling sword fights found in movies like “Zorro,” “Three Musketeers,” or “The Count of Monte Cristo,” and, in the case of part 2, and the domesticity of any number of romance movies or soap operas. It even has a bit of Anime in part 1, and even dialogue in Japanese and Chinese for those who are into foreign films and the “Kill Bill” franchise has an awesome soundtrack. Not only that, but as a Flamenco fan, I was both pleased and surprised to discover that the soundtrack features music by the famous Spanish gypsy Flamenco duo, Lole y Manuel, which was the absolute icing on the cake. What was funny about that, though, was that the scenes in which Lole y Manuel’s music was used as the soundtrack actually took place in Mexico. This film is probably one of the best martial arts/action movies I have ever seen.

I'll be back - to buy more

Excellent movie! This review will be more about the quality of the movie than the content. This BD comes with a Digital HD copy through VUDU or Fandango. I set it up with Vudu because it’s easier for me. As for the disc itself, it came exactly as described and shrink wrapped so I knew it was new. I thoroughly inspected the print on the front and back covers. Everything was pristine. I had ordered this same movie from a different source and you could immediately tell by the back cover that someone printed it from their computer and then the disc looked copied. Not in this case. This is definitely a legitimate, remastered BD. The picture and sound quality are excellent. This disc comes with both the Unrated Special Edition and the theatrical version. I prefer the theatrical version but the extended version is just as good in quality...just has some sequences that don’t fit in my head. This movie was state of the art in 1991 and being remastered on Blu-Ray is even better. A must have for any Terminator fan, or even just action fans.
FYI, they sell Terminator movies in sets (Anthology or Quadrilogy). Don’t buy those!!! The quality is terrible. I bought both and immediately returned them after trying each disc. The discs worked but the sound and picture quality was terrible. I bought it like that because the price was awesome for 4 movies (Genisys) wasn’t included. Buy them individually. The quality is so much better. You won’t regret it and the prices individually are still very reasonable for BD.

Sarah Connor?

The Endoarm is highly detailed, great dark chrome appearance, and an awesome display piece for the price. Even though it's light weight plastic, it looks like authentic metal. The display base and plastic tube are a nice touch, even though it's not quite exactly like in the movie. The arm itself seems to be slightly larger than 1:1 scale, but it is supposed to be Arnold's arm. So glad they finally released this after it was canceled last year. The price went up, but thanks to Amazon's low price guarantee, at some point between my pre-order and delivery, the price dropped near what it was last year. As for the 4K disc, I don't yet have a 4K player or TV, but I'm shopping for one now. Originally, they were supposed to include the 3D Bluray, but then it was only released in the UK. I was pretty excited about that, but since 3D TVs are pretty much over, hopefully VR takes off as a medium for watching 3D movies in the future. The 3D version in the theater was so much better than I anticipated. The 4K transfer includes some of the new enhancements made for the 3D theatrical release, which I guess is cool, except we need the proper T2 Extended Edition in 4K. Overall, my 5 stars are for the Endoarm and how awesome it is to finally have one that looks great and is affordable!

My 13 year old son kept raving about the "new" Red Dawn. I told him to sit with me and watch this version and if he liked the new one better I would watch the new one. Needless to say - I haven't seen the new one yet. :) If you were a kid in the 80's like me then you know that this movie was something that in the back of all of our minds could happen. I know that I wanted the commies to attack my school so we could fight back. Our mascot was the Rams so it wouldn't have been near as cool as shouting "Wolverines!". Anyway - very good movie and I was thrilled to watch it again after all of these years.
