I have not read the book yet, but I'll say it's really interesting when a movie like this feels as cohesive and legible as this one does after years of people claiming how "unfilmable" a book is. I think that makes this movie just a little more impressive.
This isn't my favorite Denis Villeneuve directed movie, but I enjoy it quite a bit.
My only real gripe is that this book, over the decades, has inspired such psychedelic & colorful art and imagery and even music, but that influence isn't really felt in this movie until... the closing credits, basically. All this to say, it's a little drab even though wonderfully photographed. Yes it does take place primarily on a dessert planet, but there's also a real lack of vibrancy in the other cultures and environments and their costumes and other designs.
Hopefully maybe there will be more visual pop, as shown in Denis' Blade Runner 2049, in the coming sequel(s) and this minor quibble that I've spent too much time talking about will be, uhm, mooted.
Good movie, do watch.

Great entry in the series with a worthwhile bluray

A great return of a series that was somewhat missing its mark in the previous movie. This one and V/H/S 99 are very good anthology horror movies that debuted on Shudder streaming service. Both are good but I liked this one a little bit better. The blu-ray is worthwhile for the commentary track from filmmakers and behind the scenes and interview material.
I really appreciate how Shudder sees the value in releasing their original films on physical media! It's a fantastic streaming service for horror fans and their disc releases usually hold enough great extra material (on top of just being a little bit better in quality than streaming).
Recommended for fans of anthology horror films!

Maybe it's best if you are really into the Amazon ecosystem, with Echo devices and other such things that involve the Amazon account. But otherwise I do not see why it should be the choice of music streamer. Personally, I like Tidal the best. Apple Music is good again if you are invested in that company's technology and ecosystem. Amazon Music is just another choice and I don't quite see what could make it stick out as unique or top choice as far as library and quality is concerned.

Among the best I've played on my PlayStation 4. If it helps, my top favorites I've played in the PS4 generation are Horizon Zero Dawn (and currently Forbidden West), Death Stranding, and the two Last of Us games. So, narrative driven single player games. This is top tier and is a wonderful step forward in the quality of video game narratives. Story is fantastic, but game play is also wonderful and engaging.
The first episode of the HBO adaptation (of the first game) has just aired and I'm looking forward to re-playing this game probably soon after this TV season has finished.

Good to check twice a year or so

Showtime is a service I like to check out about twice a year but hasn't often felt worth keeping for a long run. There are enough quality shows to keep engaged for a couple of months, but new great stuff doesn't come up on a very regular basis. Maybe that's a breath of fresh air with so many networks and streamers trying to churn out content on an ongoing basis?
It's good. Try it. Maybe a bundle with Paramount+ might be more worthwhile if that's an option?

If you're in the Apple ecosystem and enjoy playing mobile games (or even want to just try some on the Apple TV), this is of course very well worth trying out.
Made all much better since Apple allowed support for Playstation and Xbox controllers. I enjoy playing an occasional game mostly just on my Apple TV. (And if you do want to play on ATV, this would be the rare circumstance where the larger storage Apple TV option would be advisable.)
I don't give five stars mostly because I don't play enough to make this essential all the time, and the options are wide and pretty good but they don't necessarily keep me drawn in for a consistent subscription.

From interface to music selection and recommendations, Tidal is my favorite music streaming service. I like to have Apple Music as well because I'm in that ecosystem, but optimally I love to have Tidal going alongside it. I listen mostly at my computer and their desktop app, at least for MacOS, is very nice.
I recommend trying out Tidal. I've no idea why Spotify gets most of the attention. Tidal is where it's at.

Probably best for the lowest price

This is just a short term use perspective. I've only had these headphones for a couple of weeks and they are adequate. I wanted something inexpensive and quick after my better Koss headphones stopped working in one ear (after about five years). Soundwise, these are no match to my old Koss headphones. But they are better than expected for just the $10 I got them for in build and aesthetic and sound quality. Certainly easily the best sounding headphones I've ever gotten for around $10! Might sound like a backhanded compliment but I mean it, these are a great option for the price. I also want to get a much better sounding pair to replace these ASAP.

So word on the street (my own opinion and comments I've read) is that this movie is a good deal better than people remembered it being. I bought this blu-ray to complete my Candyman collection and to cautiously give the movie another look. It really was a pleasant surprise as it held up better than I remember. I almost wonder if its original presentation -- straight to VHS or cable airings, all in cropped 4:3 standard definition quality, is what mostly gave this the reputation of being significantly worse than the first two entries. Personally, I enjoy this movie more than the second.
Disc gives a good presentation of the movie with a nice amount of extra features and an entertaining and informative commentary track. Recommended! If you like any of the other Candyman films, give this one a chance.
