Great sensory ride

There's probably a good chance you're looking into this movie because of Mandy. I first saw this when released and was a little underwhelmed because I thought its story too thin and slow, but I wanted to own it and try again because I enjoy Mandy so much.
Watching again, I came to find this movie similarly just a great aesthetic sensory ride, and I was less caught up and concerned about a tightly edited narrative. More mellow and slow moving than the screaming acid trip of Panatos's follow-up film. Best to just sit and ride with it because I think it's really worthwhile in the end.
Mandy is more fire and earth. Beyond the Black Rainbow is sleek walls, metal and glass. When watchng this, I wanted to follow it up immediately with Mandy. They ended up going so well with each other. It felt like a more complete and exciting experience than I anticipated.

A fun and well-paced bloody horror comedy. Not overly heavy on the comedy, but I don't feel right resigning it only to horror.
Samara Weaving is great in the main role and has become a reliable horror icon in the past few years without feeling like she's become typecasting (see Mayhem and third season of the Evil Dead TV series).
Shortly after this movie was released, the directors were announced as attached to a new Scream sequel -- something I'd normally be skeptical and wary of. But based on their work with this movie, I am really excited to see what they put out next!

I think if you own a PS4 and have any inkling of enjoying adventure and 3D platforming games, then there's little reason to not check this out.
There is also the Uncharted trilogy remaster that you might want to try first. They are all very well done! Just, if you're not as concerned about story and only want to enjoy a game that utilizes the PS4 graphics and power (or don't need to spend hours playing three other similar games out of obligation), then probably no harm in skipping to this one.
This one is cheap and it's a good time. I (personally!) prefer the new trilogy of Tomb Raider games and enjoy those a bit more. But I'm glad I finally gave the Uncharted games a chance.
From story to fun gameplay and pushing a console so impressively to its full capabilities, Naughty Dog is a developer that can always be trusted.

Great bonus features and very good picture & audio

This movie was missing from blu-ray for a long time -- in print and then vanished for years. I was so happy that it was finally being made available again.
The picture quality is very filmic and natural looking -- not scrubbed of grain and waxy. The sound is perfectly fine and great, with the note that you should boost your volume a little higher than normal as seems to be common with most Disney releases.
I think the movie is honestly not quite a stone-cold classic but still a mostly great and fun 80's era fantasy. Some fun stop-motion creature effects and a really memorable and entrancing music score. As a movie and a narrative I think it's a little bit wobbly, but I think this still holds plenty of value outside of any nostalgia itch if you're not someone who grew up with it.
This edition features a commentary track that was not on the previous release. Warwick Davis remains talking and insightful throughout with great behind the scenes details.
This release gives the movie much better treatment than one may have feared or expected. The movie is very worth checking out if you're into this era of fantasy stuff, and this blu-ray release is a great value and a treat if you're a fan!
by the way, if you're someone who looks out for slipcovers, let me clarify that I bought this blu-ray on its release and while it is unusual for Disney, this release never had copies with a slipcover.

A worthwhile improvement over blu-ray!

I honestly think not all or many of the Disney/Pixar animated titles are worthwhile in upgrading to UHD 4K over blu-ray. (For instance -- the first three Toy Storys not so much because they weren't mastered or released in these resolutions or with HDR in mind, while Toy Story 4 makes great use of it.)
Frozen is a slight exception though as the aesthetics and color palette make great use of the HDR. The sparkling snow and skies benefit greatly, and darker scenes feel to have more depth. The difference over blu-ray isn't overwhelming when it comes to resolution detail but the HDR feels almost essential if you have this option.
On the steelbook packaging -- I really like this design and it's much better than some of the minimalist images on plain color backgrounds like some of Disney's other steelbooks.

Worthwhile sequel and great picture.

A great surprise that this worked so well as an "ending" for the series, as the third movie already seemed to accomplish that. While the third movie is like an ending for this group of characters, this fourth movie successfully acts as an epilogue of sorts, giving Woody his own kind of closure that we didn't know was needed. For its story and all-around reason to be, it's impressive that they pulled this entry off so well.
The visual style of this movie is very appealing as well. They give it the appearance of being shot in a sort of classic style with wide lenses. The lighting style, bokeh effects, environments like the carnival and antique shop, give this sort of a timeless aesthetic. All's to say that the use of color and light and digital cinematography make this a really gorgeous movie to watch in 4K HDR.
But above all, and to repeat, it's just a relief that the story works as well. Highly recommended if you enjoy the previous films.

This movie's fine and good. Maybe the standards are a little unfair with it being sandwiched between Infinity War and Endgame. It meets the mark when it comes to cool and impressive visuals -- which are large part of what make Marvel movies such a fun ride. The story and main character are okay, but I look forward to her feeling a little more developed in a future film.
This steelbook is very nice looking. The movie's picture quality looks great. The extras on the disc are too minimal and fluffy, but I haven't yet listened to the commentary.

This is a very pretty looking movie and you'd be right to get it on 4K UHD disc. The movie itself is lacking in the emotional appeal of the original, as stylized animation and expressions are replaced with a hyper real and impressive CG tech demo.
This is one of those movies that seems to exist maybe primarily in the long run for the purpose of pushing and developing filmmaking technologies that will benefit future, better films.
I don't think it's bad, but if you own this and you don't also own the original movie that had nothing wrong with it, then I think something might be wrong.

I play games very casually and only finish about two or so a year. My favorites in recent years and the type that appeal to me are Horizon Zero Dawn, Metal Gear Solid 5, the newer Tomb Raider games, and The Last Guardian, Ico, and Shadow of the Colossus. All that said -- I love this game. I'm having such a good time. I love it love it.
The environments are beautiful and traveling through them can be very mellow, but it's still challenging in a way that helps you engage with the main character. Story beats (I'll give no real details here) are intriguing and amusing in their shifting tones. I very much enjoy Hideo Kojima's voice and story style, and this one is not letting me down.
Basically I enjoy a good game that gives an engaging story and gives a fulfilling world/environment to explore so I have something to do while I listen to a podcast or other audiothing. Hours and hours into this game, I often don't feel the need to listen to something else while I'm playing, and I'm happy to just be immersed in the world and sounds that are presented. Every element already feels deliberate and with artful authorial intent, so I don't necessarily feel like I'm "wasting my time" by not supplementing with another piece of media while also playing around in this one. The game in itself just feels like a masterfully-crafted album.
I'm not too big on games where most all you do is shoot at things and people. I don't enjoy feeling consistently tensed up and stressed or frustrated while playing a game. And striking that balance where there's not too much constant over-stimulation and aggression but it's also still very immersive and gripping -- it's honestly hard for me to define what exactly that balance consists of when a game properly hits it for me (like most of the titles I listed above). But this one does so maybe just about the most perfectly I've found in this PS4 era. That feels like an oversimplification of why this game is feeling so perfect for me. But that's about the crux of it.
