Fast paced demon slaying action

Doom 2016 on PS4 was an exercise in patience. The load times were pretty atrocious. They would've been acceptable if they only appeared on level load, but dying and reloading would also put you through that lengthy loading screen.
Doom Eternal fixes this issue with the Lives system. Though it does take away from the challenge, it provides a much less frustrating experience. This, combined with more movement and traversal options, helps make for a faster-paced shooter game.
The combat is pretty cleverly designed. When the player is low on health, they can freeze enemies. When they are low on armor, they can burn enemies. And when they are low on ammo, they can chainsaw enemies. Enemies themselves become resources. The enemy variety lends to natural incentive to use each and every weapon as well. There are 2 mods for each weapon that change how that weapon functions. I myself found a favorite mod for each weapon and never really switched it up but I never felt like I was lacking in combat options. Altogether these systems keep combat engaging from start to finish.
Exploration is worthwhile, providing you with upgrade points, keys, and collectibles. Obtaining all collectibles is made easier with a map that's broken up into sections and a count of collectibles in each section. Once you reach the end of a level, you can freely warp from section to section.
Story isn't normally a highlight for the series, and here it's not much more than save mankind from being overrun by demons. But it does lead to some grand setpieces and bossfights.

Overrated by critics but overhated by gamers

Going into this game with an open mind will immensely help with enjoyment. This is Naughty Dog so the production value is insane. Everything from graphics to voice acting to animation to gameplay - is exceptional. Unusually for a more recent ND game, the game is also long. With the highly refined action, some might see this as more of a good thing, but I felt it stayed its welcome a few hours too long.
Going into the gameplay more, encounters are some of the most intense I've experienced. The phenomenally subtle but powerful music should be heard through headphones. Attacks have impact, enemies react intelligently, and environments are meticulously designed to provide the player with numerous options for maneuvering and engaging.
The story is the point of contention around this game. It's astonishing how many people went up in arms just because the story events took a different turn than what they expected. It's one thing to hate bad writing, but it's another to hate writing just because it didn't align with your ideal head canon. The presentation is fair to critique though. Without revealing any spoilers, the game goes back and forth between 4 timelines which can be pretty jarring, especially in the second half.
Overall a highly polished game that, despite having questionable story execution, does not deserve the hate that it gets.

Strangely addicting mailman simulator

A lot of people have written this game off as a walking sim, mailman sim, and other similar mundane descriptors. They're not entirely wrong - there's a lot of traversing landscapes. But part of the addictive formula is how you acquire equipment to make movement less of a chore.
Admittedly, until you start getting these improvements, moving from facility to facility can be tedious. It's best to save optional missions until maybe a few main missions in to start seeing just how the upgrades look in this game. At its core though, you do just make delivery after delivery, slowly working your way across the country.
The multiplayer aspect is a treat. Structures that other players have built can appear in your world, saving you from spending precious resources and giving you ideas for how to get around by building things of your own. Players can even contribute towards each other's structures if they're lacking materials. Roads are the most exciting things to build. They require the most resources but building long stretches of roads allows you to travel quickly and safely without any wear and tear of equipment.
The story was a bit too on the nose. There's only so many ways you can spout the same message. A little bit of patience will go a long way towards enjoying the experience; not just to ride out the story but also for the myriad of animations and dialog bits you'll repeatedly hear throughout. There are a lot of animations/mini-cutscenes for actions like getting out of bed, dropping off packages, activating consoles, etc.
Enjoy this game for what it is: a high production value deliveryman simulator with an engaging traversal and progression system.

I've had this TV for over a year now and it's proven to be a terrific budget purchase. Even at just 43 inches, the 4k resolution difference is clear. HDR renders beautifully. I remember being disappointed with HDR on a much larger display in the past, as the picture seemed dim and unimpressive. On this TV, I don't notice that effect and look forward to enabling HDR while gaming.

Miles was already an interesting character in the PS4 Spider-Man title, and here he's fleshed out even more. The music and graphics are superb, and though the total playtime is a bit low at under 20 hours, I'm in the boat of quality over quantity so length felt just about right.

An unforgiving but beautiful and rewarding journey

The original release on PS3 was incredibly memorable to me, with its level design and thematic settings. It's a testament to Bluepoint's efforts that I hardly recognized the remade levels in this latest iteration. The graphics in general and the instantaneous loading times are a good showcase of what the PS5 is capable of.
As for the gameplay, players will be met with grueling but rewarding challenges. The levels themselves are relatively difficult, perhaps somewhat moreso than in other Soulsborne titles. However, this makes it more rewarding to arrive at the actual bosses who are memorable albeit a bit less inspired than, say, Dark Souls or Bloodborne bosses.
The release price of $70 is a bit steep, but depending on whether you have the tenacity to see this game through, this could be easily worth it. If you're on the fence about Souls-like difficult games, you may want to hold off for a price drop.

An exciting Star Wars side story

The first time the game dropped me into a planet, I felt a sense of wonder and anticipation I hadn't felt in a long time. The level design is leagues above your average game, boasting a semi-open format rife with collectibles, many of which can only be obtained with abilities unlocked later. I would liken it to a Ratchet and Clank game. For completionists, the world map even displays how thoroughly you've explored each section for an easier time tracking everything down. Though I can understand some people's frustration with collectibles mostly amounting to cosmetics. Aside from that, the attention to Star Wars lore is impressive, with all manner of creatures and fauna inhabiting the worlds, all with their own small blurb of information.
Combat is somewhat simplistic, but has just enough depth to provide a nice skill ceiling. With a decent arsenal of moves unlocked, I was playing completely differently towards the end than I was at the beginning - though a simple parry/counter/dodge will serve you well enough all throughout the journey.
The story takes place after Episode 3. It's largely inconsequential in the grand scheme of the Star Wars universe, but was still enjoyable to be part of. In particular, the last third or so of the game was very hard to put down with great story beats. By comparison, the rest of the game was a tad formulaic. There are a total of 4 main planets to explore, and 2 of them are revisited later on for major chunks of them that were inaccessible the first time around. I would've preferred new planets as opposed to the revisiting.
Overall, this is an easy recommend, with likeable characters and a very decent story. I'm excited to see more refined combat and a more consequential story in a potential sequel.

Huge pain to use after such a short time

I didn't have these for very long before they became a major hassle for me. I've stopped using them altogether. I wanted an affordable set of bluetooth headphones that would stay securely on my ears. The look and pricing of these seemed pretty ok.
The first use was relatively simple, but getting them to connect to my phone again on subsequent attempts got progressively harder. My third time, I essentially gave up. Not that I was giving up much to begin with - these things technically do stay secured on your ears, but the buds themselves slide out quite easily and required me to push them back in for comfortable listening.

As a recent cordcutter, I'm thrilled with how much I'm saving from subscriptions to streaming services over traditional cable. The Roku is a great avenue for that, with a UI that's simple and responsive. I'm a fan of how the form factor is a simple HDMI stick (albeit a rather long one), so it's not very obtrusive and takes up little space. Be mindful of how the stick requires a power source though. I had to move some things around to ensure that the power cable reached an outlet.
Setup takes a fair bit of time, involving account creation, internet connection, and TV sync for volume control. Occasionally, the Roku freezes up on me and I'll have to get up to press the restart button on the stick.
Overall, it's a no-brainer investment that's already more than paid for itself.

"You get what you pay for" is basically what applies here. These are cheap headphones, and up there among the worst I've owned. The actual sound quality is passable, but the build is the main issue here. Wires feel like they could snap with little use, the earbuds don't feel all that secured when in usage, and the volume adjuster sits way too high up, often snagging on my shirt collar.
Spend a little more to get higher quality headphones - it'll be money far better spent.
