They installed the microwave and it works

On the one hand, the installation was great in that it went very, very quickly, left no mess and the microwave works. On the other hand, the installation used the same mounting bracket as the previous microwave from the same brand and so there really wasn't much to do for the installation. I should probably have installed it myself but since retiring, I'm getting to lazy to do anything remotely like real work and the wife trusts my hardware abilities less and less. So it was probably worth it after all.

I bought this protection plan for a pricey microwave we got. The microwave is still functioning, so I haven't used this plan. On the one hand, I suppose I hope never to use it at all, in which case it would have been totally overpriced for me. On the other hand, maybe the microwave will go on the fritz in less than 5 years (like the previous one I had did) and I'll get a new replacement before this expires. If that happens, this will be a wise investment indeed. It's just another form of insurance and like any insurance, you hate to pay for it but are glad you have it when you need it.

Surprisingly poor picture

I have last year's model of the 6 series TCL Roku TV with a 65" screen and think it is great (as did many professional reviews). I needed a bedroom TV and figured the current 5 series 43" model would be just the ticket. The picture quality was surprisingly poor, bordering on awful, whether from streaming, satellite TV, Blu-ray player or Xbox One. There was severe banding and posterization of colors no matter what settings I tried. I gave up on it and took it back, then got the current 6 series 55" model instead, which is bigger than I wanted but the smallest in the 6 series. It has an even better picture than my 65" TV. I really like the 6 series of TCL Roku TVs but can't recommend anything below that series.

If you liked the original Blade Runner, you HAVE to have this. If you didn't like the original Blade Runner, you are a heathen and not worth thinking about. Actually, I have the UHD disc, not just the HD Blu-ray and it is stunning looking and sounding. With the right home system, it really brings home the theatrical experience (and I originally saw it at a Dolby Theater with full Dolby Vision and Dolby ATMOS).

Nice to have conventional cooking plus a microwave

The fan died on our Whirlpool over-the-range microwave. Since it was 4 years old, it was clearly out of warranty. I could probably have replaced it with a nearly identical model from Whirlpool (to use the same wall and hanging brackets) for about the same as getting it repaired. But my wife decided that having a combination conventional oven and microwave plus our normal oven would be more flexible so we donated the old one and got this model. The control layout is entirely different and is taking some getting used to. The oven portion is convection-only so you do have to use convection oven cooking directions not conventional oven directions. It has a number of features we haven't tried yet. The microwave seems a little less powerful than the old model so we're having to zap our popcorn a little longer (first world problems, eh?). However, it does seem to work well overall and the fingerprint resistant stainless steel actually seems to resister fingerprints. Will wonders never cease? Now if only the glass front could resist fingerprints!

Not high-end gear, but pretty good for basic price

I had a wonderful, rather high-end A/V receiver by Anthem that took a lightning-based surge, causing the HDMI circuitry to go kaput. Since I'm retired and on a fixed budget, I couldn't afford to repair it much less replace it. So off to BB I went to get a basic A/V receiver. I've had Yamaha in the past and they were pretty good so I decided on the RX-V485. I didn't want to waste money on an 11-channel, ATMOS-capable receiver as it's going in the man-cave, which just has 5.1 speakers. This has 4 HDMI inputs (more would have been even nicer), basic room correction, enough power to drive my speakers (though I don't trust the power ratings as far as I could throw them for this or any other budget amplifiers) and more Internet and Bluetooth features than I actually need. Setup was easy (though it might have been nice to have mix-and-match abilities for audio and video inputs) and the sound is... OK. My headphones sound much better through my Denon DAC/headphone amplifier than they do through this receiver so I know its DAC isn't super nice but it still sounds... OK. If you're on a budget, you could do worse than this unit.

I know that Best Buy was selling this for two different prices; one with activation in the store (the lower price) and one unlocked for activation by whatever phone store the customer took it to. Since I was replacing and old phone on an existing contract, I wasn't going to be activating it in the store and ended up going for the higher priced option. That price was still better than what I would have paid at my phone store (Verizon). Your mileage may vary.

Can you manually updated the checking and investment accounts and not use the automatic updates?
You can manually enter pretty much anything you want into any of the accounts. When I write checks, for example, I enter them manually. When I later download the information for my checking account from the bank, Quicken automatically reconciles which of those sent checks have been cashed. That assumes that your description of the individual payment matches the banks description closely enough. Sometimes, they don't quite match and you end up having to delete your manually-entered record.

Can I install this unit in a cabinet over my wall oven with a trim kit like my old whirlpool gold convection microwave?
I had contractors from Best Buy install it because since I've retired, I've become rather lazy about doing chores like that. However, they installed it in a manner of minutes using the trim kit that had been from our previous Whirlpool microwave oven. I am unfamiliar with the "Whirlpool Gold Convection Microwave" in specific but suspect the trim kits might be similar.

Further inquiry to Bonnies question ( and subsequent answer) about cookie sheets. Are you recommending we not bake cookies in the convection feature of the oven?
You can certainly try baking cookies or anything else. However, given the design of the oven where all the heat is coming in from a vent on the left side rather than evenly distributed above and/or below as in a conventional oven, I suspect that you might find cookies on the left side of the sheet might be rather more well done than those on the right side.

will this work with 5ohm speakers ?
Possibly not. The manual describes how to set the speaker impedance setting to either 8-ohm or 6-ohm, no mention of other settings for 4-ohm, 5-ohm or other. You might want to write Yamaha directly to see if setting it to 6-ohm would be "close enough" for your 5-ohm speakers.

There's a little icon with 3 horizontal stripes (which I've heard called the "hamburger" icon) to the left of the painted controls. Press that and an expanded backlit menu comes up. Using this, you can set the cooking time, press a menu option, then select the cooking power level (from 10% to 90% with the default being 100%) and then press the Start icon. You also have to use this "hamburger" icon to bring up the menu options to use the oven in convection oven mode instead of the default microwave oven mode (the two modes are separate and can't be used at the same time).

Does this unit allow you to play different music in each zone? For example: can I watch a movie in the main zone and play music via an airplay 2 device (iPhone).
Page 44 of the manual talks about sliding the Zone A/Zone B switch to Zone B, then selecting an input. Keep in mind that you cannot drive both a 5.1 channel system in Zone A in combination with a 2.0 channel system in Zone B. Using Zone B means sacrificing the surround channels from Zone A. This isn't spelled out explicitly in the manual; you have to glean it from zooming in on the diagram of the rear of the receiver on page 14.

Can this receiver work with component audio and video cable? I have an older projection television as well as an older dvd player.
This A/V receiver does NOT have component (YPbPr) video inputs. Video can only be input via higher-quality HDMI input or lower-quality composite video input. Most all newer video devices (cable boxes, satellite boxes, Blu-ray players, UHD players, media players, etc.) use only HDMI these days. Some really old devices (Wii game consoles, VCRs, etc.) use composite video and some older DVD players use composite video.
