Originally a concept for a My Little Pony fighting game, Them's Fightin' Herds stands on its own as a parody of that property. It's a competent 2D fighter that shouldn't be overlooked due to its theme. Sadly, future expansions to the story mode and fighter roster have been shelved due to developer issues. As such, a lot of elements of the game feel unfinished. That's a shame, because the art and sound design here is memorable. There's only 10 or so characters, but it's still worth a look if you're into indie fighters such as Skull Girls.

This is a port of the TMNT: Wrath Of The Mutants arcade game from 2017. The gameplay is very basic and wonky (yes, even more so than the classic 90s arcade games), the graphics are subpar, and the soundtrack is mediocre. It may have snagged a few credits from unsuspecting tots in the arcade, but even with the 2 new levels added for this release it's a scant offering. Even so, I'm glad they decided to release this...I'd love to see more arcade ports these days. Unfortunately, this is not one of the better ones.

As with all movie versions of animated series, Bob's Burgers tries too hard to appeal to everyone. The animation and lighting are definitely of a much higher quality than the series, and that's a plus. The plot is fine, but the overabundance of musical numbers kind of kills it for me. Bob's Burgers is known for the occasional song in the episodes, but here it's too Hollywood...more like cringey showtunes. If you like the series though, it's still worth at least one watch.

Super Mario Bros. Wonder takes the classic 2D Mario platformer and injects some much-needed new ideas to the mix. The Wonder Flowers make every level feel exciting and unique, as they transform the backround, music, and gameplay in unexpected ways. There's a few new power-ups (Elephant, Bubble, and Drill), a badge system that allows you to equip perks, and a bunch of other small changes that enrich the experience. You can also play as several different characters (Mario, Luigi, Peach, Daisy, different colored Toads/Yoshis, and Nabbit)...up to four players at once. The music, while not quite as memorable as past tunes, has an energetic synthesizer vibe that fits the atmosphere. The developers even weren't afraid to mix up the classic sound effects a bit. It's a fresh take on classic 2D Mario, and I approve!

Metroid Prime Remastered is a pleasant surprise from Nintendo. For the unfamiliar, it's a remaster of Metroid Prime for the GameCube that was released circa 2002. It's an FPS with platforming elements that takes place in the Metroid universe, with all of the atmosphere that would suggest. While the graphics and controls have been modernized, there are still a handful of aspects that show the game's age...such as the tedium of having to switch back and forth between beams during heated encounters later in the game. It would've been exceptional if Nintendo released the entire remastered trilogy in one package, but what we have here is just enough to stand on its own. Hopefully the other two Prime games get a similar treatment before too long.

No FPS action here, but still mildly entertaining.

I typically don't like the Telltale games, but the Tales From The Borderlands series caught my attention. You basically just sit through long cinematics and make a few decisions for the characters, so don't expect any FPS action. That said, there is some entertainment value here if you'd like to dig a little deeper into the lore of Borderlands.

There are cheaper USB-C to 3.5mm adapters out there, but this one by Apple is the best I've tried. In an era when cell phones are increasingly ditching 3.5mm, this accessory comes in handy if you prefer to use wired headphones; there's little to no sound quality loss. Spend a few extra bucks and get this one...I'm glad I did.

What can I say about this game that hasn't already been said? It's the classic Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles side-scrolling beat 'em up reimagined, and Konami couldn't have done a better job themselves. You get 6 characters at start (the 4 turtles, April, and Splinter) and one secret one after you beat the game (Casey). The gameplay, animations, and soundtrack are all superb...and the addition of super moves/team attacks feel like a natural evolution for the franchise. That said, this is still based on an arcade game design...so know that you'll be able to blaze through everything there is to see within a few hours or less. If you love classic arcade games though, this one should be right up your alley...and the Switch gives you it on the go. The included artbook and stickers are icing on the cake.

I was skeptical on how good this game would be on the vanilla PS4, but it actually runs at a respectable clip. The World Tour mode suffers noticeably (long load times, framerate issues), but the Battle Hub and Fighting Ground modes keep up well. I just wish this game launched with more than 18 characters. The King Of Fighters 15 launched with almost 40 characters, and while I don't expect quite that many for Street Fighter 6, it still pains me to think about how much content is locked behind Capcom's stingy season passes. Still, this is a lot more content than Street Fighter 5 launched with and that's a win.

As an isometric roguelike action game, Hades is one of the best out there. It has a steep difficulty curve, but the well-crafted story and fully voice-acted dialogue will keep you coming back for more. However, despite having "randomly generated" chambers and encounters, there are really only four main biomes and one boss battle for each. The six different weapons and various buffs offer some gameplay variety, and the soundtrack is easy on the ears, but the experience as a whole inevitably becomes repetitive. That comes with the territory though, so I still highly recommend Hades...if you're up for the challenge. As of the time of this review, this version also comes with an art booklet and a digital download for the soundtrack which is a nice bonus.

The physical release for this game at Best Buy was Dec. 15, 2020. It's been sitting at my local Best Buy store on the shelf for a few weeks. I went to check out and they told me they can't sell it because it doesn't exist in the system. What is going on?
