I got this Pac-Man figure on sale at Best Buy to try out the Amiibo function with the Switch. This one gets you a Pac-Man outfit for your Mii in Mario Kart 8, and the ability to "train" a Pac-Man in Smash Bros. Ultimate–just as an AI bot to fight against other friends' Amiibos, I suppose.
As far as the physical figure goes, the sculpt and colors are on point and it certainly looks like the modern incarnation of Pac-Man, so the designer did a great job there. As a non-Nintendo character though, don't expect much functionality in games outside of Smash Bros. and Mario Kart 8.
Enhance game play with this Nintendo Switch pro controller. Its traditional design includes motion controls, two analog control sticks and the ability to read Amiibo figures, and a USB-C cable is provided for charging. This Nintendo Switch pro controller works with any mode, whether the console is docked or undocked. Can be used by pairing wirelessly to Nintendo Switch 2. Can be charged by connecting it to the Nintendo Switch 2 dock via a USB cable.

Forget those tiny joycon controllers, THIS is where the action's at! Anyone who owns a Switch should plan on getting this controller sooner rather than later...the analog sticks are much bigger and more responsive, it has a proper d-pad, and at 35 to 40 hours of battery life it usurps even the PS4 and Xbox One standard controllers.
It does still have some sync issues with the Switch hardware, but just make sure to connect it with your Switch via the included USB-C cable for the initial use and you should be fine. By the way, the included cord is only 3-ft long...so depending on where you sit you may want to invest in a longer cord for use while charging.
The Pro d-pad still leaves something to be desired when used for fighting games, it's still much better than trying to struggle with the joycon buttons or analog stick. It's a bit pricey, but I still recommend it.

Fans of Stephan King's novel series "The Dark Tower" have been waiting patiently for a quality film adaptation for years, but I'm sorry to report that this isn't it. At a meager 1 hour and 30 minutes, there's no way they could pack everything in and it shows. Idris Elba and Matthew Mcconaughey clearly do their best with the script, but they weren't given enough to work with here. Attempts are made to reference "The Shining" and "It", as the Dark Tower series does take place in the same universe...sadly, it's not enough to add validity.
"The Dark Tower" should've at least been a trilogy of decent-length movies to do justice to the books, but this is a watered-down, teen-friendly one-off that more closely resembles "The Golden Compass" or "Eragon" than the dark and weird imagination of Stephan King. Disappointing.
Hardcore 'King fans may still want to check it out, if only to poke fun and laugh at its flaws. Otherwise, it's just another failed cash-grab that'll find its way to the bargain bin all too soon.

Were you around for the Sega CD era in the early 90s? "Shantae: Half-Genie Hero" feels like one of the games from that time–it's a just-below-the-radar platformer that seems to really emphasize sound and music into its presentation. The star of the show here is Shantae's signature ability to transform into different creatures, ala Kid Chameleon or Wonder Boy.
While this isn't Shantae's first outing, it's her first widely distributed game across platforms–and deservedly so. Half-Genie Hero is beautifully-animated and has some light Metroidvania exploration that has you returning to previous stages in search of items. The levels aren't very long, so this makes for some repetition that borders on lawn-inducing...especially when you consider most of the included DLC has you retreading all of these locales over AGAIN in some form.
I would have liked to see more effort into making some unique stages for the DLC content, but Half-Genie Hero is still a charming affair that looks and plays great. If want more 2D platforming action for the Switch, you can't go wrong with it.
Gaming icons clash in the ultimate brawl you can play anytime, anywhere! Smash rivals off the stage as new characters Simon Belmont and King K. Rool join Inkling, Ridley, and every fighter in Super Smash Bros. history. "Super Smash Bros. Ultimate" is a game worth its namesake–it truly is ultimate! For those new to the series, this is a 2D action/fighting game with over 70 characters spanning across several companies' franchises: Nintendo, Sega, Square/Enix, Capcom, Konami, Wayforward, and a ton of different stages to boot. Seriously, the developers spared no expense on this one.
In addition to the standard Classic, Smash, and Mob Smash modes, we also get a story mode called Spirits. Spirits mode is basically a way to stretch the basic game further by adding special ability cards to the mix; you unlock them by fighting single-player matches across an overworld that looks not unlike that of Super Mario World or A Link To The Past.
The only flaw to Smash Bros. Ultimate may be that there are TOO MANY characters. It takes a considerable amount of time to unlock them all, which is fine, but there are just a few too many different iterations of characters (there are 2 versions of Pit, Samus, and Mario...and 3 versions of Link!).
Overall, it's a labor of love for video games in general–and not just those made by Nintendo. There's surprising cameos and remixed classic tunes waiting around every corner. Definitely another must-have for the Switch!
NOTE: I recommend the Gamecube or Switch Pro controller for this one...it's kind of hard to press specific directions on command with the standard Joycon sticks.

Rampage has some decent action scenes and most of the actors play their parts well (aside from some corny dialogue), but overall this movie is a poor attempt to cash in on the popularity of its retro game source. There are flashes of good ideas here, but mostly it all falls flat in the end.
I like most of The Rock's action movies, and I don't feel like he ever botches his part–it's just he keeps getting cast in these B-movies that really go nowhere. Sadly, Rampage reminds me of Battleship...yet another unnecessary cash-in on a game. All bark and no bite.
Team up with the Blue Bomber in Mega Man 11 for PlayStation 4. The latest in an epic gaming franchise, this platforming game features hand-drawn environments and a new look. Choose from a range of difficulty modes to meet your ability level, and follow Mega Man as he fights against the Robot Masters. Mega Man 11 includes time trials and side missions for more ways to enjoy this iconic character.

Finally we get a modern Mega Man game with a decent graphical treatment. However, Mega Man 11 plays it a bit too safe. Most of the tropes of old make it back here, but not much else. After the initial 8 bosses, the Doctor Wily stage isn't particularly long (just 2 stages with a boss rush and then Wily himself with 2 forms).
The new Double Gear system is a winner and does add some newness to the formula–as you can essentially speed up or add a power boost at will–but there's no real secrets to speak of, and Rush seems to take a backseat this time around with nothing new added to his abilities (all you get here is the stock Rush Spring and Rush Jet).
After the main game is over, there are a series of challenges you can complete to add some replay value, though only the most hardcore of Mega Man fans will likely have the patience to tackle these with gusto. Despite this, if Mega Man 11 is any indication of things to come, the future is looking bright for the blue bomber!

While it wasn't perfect, I was pleasantly surprised by 2015's Jurassic World. Unfortunately, Fallen Kingdom delights with the same dino scares all Jurassic' movies are known for, but it's wearing thin at this point. There's a few nice concepts explored in this film, though perhaps not quite enough to elevate it to true "must-have" status. Still, if you enjoyed the other movies in the series, you owe it to yourself to check it out at some point.

"Sonic Mania Plus" is an upgraded version of the previously released "Sonic Mania". The main difference here is the addition of 2 new characters (Mighty & Ray) and Encore Mode, which is essentially the same as Mania Mode but tweaks a few things. Encore features a new pinball bonus stage (which allows you to earn power-ups, rings, and continues), palette-swapped levels, and the ability to switch between all 5 characters.
For those unacquainted with the original "Sonic Mania", it's basically an HD remix of the first few Sonic games previously released for the Sega Genesis/Sega CD in the early 90s. Think of it as a "best of" of sorts...plus there's new bosses and level elements abound, and a few entirely new zones to boot: Studiopolis, Mirage Saloon, Press Garden, and Titanic Monarch. And did I mention an entirely new music score as well? That's always nice.
So is it worth it? For veterans and initiates alike, the answer is YES! While the majority of what's offered here is reused assets, there's enough new paint to warrant a purchase for the asking price. It's the most refined, most balanced incarnation of a classic Sonic game to date!
Shantae is back in an all-new tropical adventure! In her fifth outing, the Half-Genie hero gains new Fusion Magic abilities to explore a vast sunken city, makes new Half-Genie friends, and battles the Seven Sirens in her biggest, most thrilling quest yet! Featuring multiple towns and more labyrinths than ever before, an awesome aquatic journey full of danger and discovery awaits!
The physical release for this game at Best Buy was Dec. 15, 2020. It's been sitting at my local Best Buy store on the shelf for a few weeks. I went to check out and they told me they can't sell it because it doesn't exist in the system. What is going on?
