A malevolent force known only as Lina is devouring data from a vast, interdimensional network of servers overseen by sentient computers called "motes". In desperation, the motes summon heroes from a variety of parallel game worlds to face off against each other in one-on-one combat. The tournament victor has the potential to be awakened as the Blade Stranger - the savior who can vanquish Lina and protect the motes from further harm.

An Ok fighter to take on the go
on July 21, 2019
Posted by: Electronaut72
Verified Purchase:Yes
"Blade Strangers" is a 2D, one-on-one fighting game which features characters from Nicalis games. Notable inclusions are Solange from "Code Of Princess", Shovel Night, Isaac, and Quote/Curly from "Cave Story."
Simplistic compared to other 2D fighters, "Blade Strangers" ousts the traditional complicated special move commands in favor of single direction inputs plus a special attack button (think Smash Bros.). This is a good thing for the Switch, since the standard Joy-Cons are not fighting game friendly. Don't assume it's a complete cake walk, though...there are definitely combos that require creativity and finesse that'll give veterans of the genre a bit to chew on.
The standard array of modes are present (story, arcade, survival, online), but "Blade Strangers" falls short in the story and graphics department. The hand-drawn profile pics of the characters look great, but during play the animations are pixelated and appear as they were upscaled from a PS2 game.
With around 14 characters and a lower price tag, "Blade Strangers" is a respectable entry-level fighting game. While it can't compete with the likes of "Samurai Showdown", "KOF 14", or "Street Fighter 5", it makes for a decent casual fighter on the go.
NOTE: This launch edition comes with a manual and a keychain bonus. Very nice!

A worthy successor to Symphony Of The Night
on July 19, 2019

If you enjoy exploratory platformers, it goes without saying that "Bloodstained" should already be on your radar. "Symphony Of The Night" mastermind Koji Igarashi helmed this effort with composer Michiru Yamane on board as well, and the result is amazing as expected.
The spirit of "Castlevania" is firing on all cylinders here–there's lots of exploratory fun to had and a fair amount of secrets to uncover of the course of the 20+ hour journey. There's lots of weapons, armors, and abilities to be found...along with a robust crafting/cooking system.
For all it does right, "Bloodstained" could still have used a little more time in the oven. Some features don't seem fully implemented (such as the seed planting feature), and there's some obvious glitches that need to be ironed out. Your helms and weapons change Miriam's appearance in-game, but only a couple of armors do so. Perhaps they planned on every armor having a different look but ran out of time before the deadline?
I'm confident that the glitches will be taken care of with time (as of this review a couple have already been fixed), and there are a few free DLCs on the horizon which will hopefully flesh out the experience even more. Definitely a must buy!

All you need for Wi-Fi entertainment

While other Roku models have most of the same functions offered by the Roku Ultra, this is definitely the way to go if you stream a lot of content. It's by far the fastest and most reliable way to hop between YouTube, Hulu, Netflix, ect. It's still small, but has enough presence that it won't be sliding around easy near your set-up.
The interface is clean and user-friendly (as with most of the other Rokus, of course). My only gripe with it is that there's no way to turn the unit off when not in use without unplugging it. I don't know if leaving it on indefinitely would harm it...but in my experience, excess heat + electronics = bad.
The included JBL earbuds are fine...not top of the line, but certainly useful if you intend to watch stuff at night while others are in bed (the remote has a 3mm input). I personally am not a fan of earbuds, but they get the job done.
Overall, I'd say the Roku Ultra is a sound buy if you intend to cut the cable and go all-in on wireless internet content; the price is well worth it when you factor in that you won't have to pay a monthly cable box fee anymore.

The Dead or Alive Tournament Executive Committee and hosts of Dead or Alive 6, DOATEC, already released the names of the first set of fighters involved in this instalment ~ including the owner of DOATEC, Helena Douglas. Other notable fighters include the eighteenth master of the Mugen Tenshin clan, Hayate, and past Dead or Alive (DOA) tournament winners: Kasumi of the Mugen Tenshin clan; the ultimate ninja, Ryu Hayabusa; the ever-entertaining host, Zack; and the most recent tournament winner, the scorching soul Jann Lee.

Feels more like an update to Dead Or Alive 5
on June 12, 2019

As an avid Tekken and Soul Calibur player, Dead Or Alive has always been secondary to me...but I do enjoy checking in on the series. "Dead Or Alive 6" feels more like an expansion to DOA 5 at times, but there are a few new features to make note of: There are super meter combos now, and with that system comes powered-up parries, ect. In addition to the standard array of modes such as Arcade, Time Attack, and Survival, there is a story mode...it's segmented by long load times and doesn't accomplish much, though.
New characters Diego and NiCO are welcome additions to the roster, but there should have been a few more new faces to separate the experience from previous entries in the DOA series. The graphics are a slight improvement over DOA 5. However, in 2019 I expect weightier, more realistic body movements from games like this.
If you're a fan of the DOA series, you should still buy this entry. The standard full game without the season pass is acceptable for a fighting game, just don't buy into the ridiculous amount of DLC outfits on offer here (the season pass price is way overkill).

An ok sequel, but lacks the magic of Harry Potter
on April 26, 2019

I like most of the characters in Fantastic Beasts, but even in this sequel it still lacks that special something that would make it feel truly connected to the Harry Potter universe. Depp is good as Grindelwald, but the overall tone just feels drab. If you keep up with the Harry Potter universe, go ahead and buy this movie–the special effects are serviceable and it does look nice in 4K, but that's about all I have to say about it. I barely remember the plot, and that's not a good sign of things to come from this series.

Stands alone as yet another great DC movie

I was concerned resolve might fall apart in the DC movie scene after Justice League, but Aquaman has proven me wrong. It's a solid origin story for the character packed with dazzling CG effects, and although at times overdone, it gets things right for the most part. Black Manta seems to get relegated to a side role here, but it's hinted that he'll return in a possible sequel...we shall see. There's not much more to say other than that if you love super hero movies, Aquaman is a must buy.

Doesn't quite capture the magic of the original

As with many sequels, "Ralph Breaks The Internet" fails to capture the magic of its predecessor. It's still an entertaining romp though, and I doubt the kiddos will even notice.
The premise is this: Ralph winds up unintentionally breaking Penelope's game, Sugar Rush, and has to take to the internet to find a replacement steering wheel. I'm not sure what exactly I was expecting with this one, as it makes good use making fun of internet trends, ect...I guess maybe the lack of a villain such as Turbo from the last movie takes a little away (one could argue that Ralph is the villain here, but I digress).
Still, I recommend picking this one up. Not as strong as "Wreck It Ralph", but still entertaining in its own right.

The ultimate 2D Mario game! Lots of content!
on April 4, 2019
Posted by: Electronaut72
from Acworth, GA
Verified Purchase:Yes
Let me start off by saying that this isn't an entirely new game–it's essentially "New Super Mario Bros. U" that was released on the Wii U a few years back. However, a few new features are present: Toadette and Nabbit are new playable characters and serve as the game's easy mode...and all of the content from Super Luigi U is present as well.
As Peachette, Toadette can float and boost high into the air–making her perfect for avoiding chasms and backtracking to previous levels to mop up those hard-to-reach gold coins. As for Nabbit, he's invincible to enemy damage and great for younger players to tag-along and get used to the game.
Other than that, this is "New Super Mario Bros. U" with a fresh coat of paint. Anyone who already has the Wii U version might be hard-pressed to pay full price for this game again (unless they just want it on Switch for portability). There's a lot of content here though for your buck, so it's pretty much the best 2D Mario game out there right now. If you didn't get it on Wii U, now's the perfect time.

Did we need another "Conjuring" spin-off?
on February 1, 2019
Posted by: Electronaut72
from Acworth, GA
Verified Purchase:Yes
If you saw "The Conjuring" films and could also sit through its 2 "Annabelle" spinoffs, you'll probably like this one. "The Nun" is a horror-by-the-numbers movie that provides little for veterans of the genre, instead relying on simple shocks and boos that we've seen a million times before. That may sound cruel, it's just that this one is so predictable...but it's an ok addition to "The Conjuring" series, ultimately.

Puppets and murder and sex!
on February 1, 2019
Posted by: Electronaut72
from Acworth, GA
Verified Purchase:Yes
Critics have dubbed "The Happytime Murders" one of the worst movies of 2018, but I think that's a bit harsh. It's about puppets in the real world entwined with drugs, sex, and a cop drama murder plot; you can't take it too seriously because it's meant to be stupid.
That said, the toilet humor does fall flat quickly...and after the first 15 minutes you won't find too many surprises. In some instances, you can see the actors and puppeteers shaking their heads in dissatisfaction as they read their lines. Perhaps the script needed a little more time in the oven?
But hey, if you like raunchy comedies like Ted, Who Framed Roger Rabbit, Cool World, and Monkey Bone, you should give "The Happytime Murders" a chance. There are some funny moments and there is a solid plot behind it all, it's just that the jokes can't always keep things chained together.
NOTE: The only way to redeem the digital copy of this movie is with iTunes.

The physical release for this game at Best Buy was Dec. 15, 2020. It's been sitting at my local Best Buy store on the shelf for a few weeks. I went to check out and they told me they can't sell it because it doesn't exist in the system. What is going on?
