That will depend on the requirements of Linux. We recommend you check with the software publisher's web site for their minimum/recommended hardware requirements (Is a Graphics card required, the processor speed and the minimum required system RAM and the minimum available hard drive space) to run their program, then compare those requirements to this system's configuration.

can you make cd's and play them on this computer?

Model number 81D100EDUS does have a built in CD/DVD-RW drive. To play CDs and DVDs you will need to install Media Player software, which is not included with Windows 10 Home.

No. There is no ethernet port on this device. You can use a USB to ethernet adapter with this device to connect an ethernet cable to this computer.

I bought this computer yesterday and have not heard the fan run once. Is this normal? Our old computer was so noisy. I just want to make sure that I didn’t receive one with a broken fan. If it’s supposed to be this quiet... I’m excited!

The Lenovo IdeaCentre 510A desktop does have an internal cooling fan. Processors are much more efficient today. The onboard fan will maintain the proper operating temperature for the device. You will hear the fan whenever it runs, this is normal.

On the Tab 4, 10." you can use a Micro USB to HDMI ,MHL adaptor cable to connect to a newer Smart TV. You can tell if this will work by checking the HDMI port on the TV for a MHL logo above it. If it has the MHL logo, you are ready to go. You can also "cast " to a newer smart TV with a Chromecast chip built in it.
