I was looking to connect this to a touchscreen TV and save a Powerpoint file on it so users can view it, swipe to next screen, press a button to open a URL etc. Can it play a Powertpoint file (PPT or PPS) without having to convert it to a video file?

That will depend on the capabilities of the software program. If the program will allow "kiosk" or loop play of the file, then yes. Check the capabilities of the program.

The maximum RAM that is system can support is 16GB. You could replace the hard drive with a compatible replacement.

Check to see if programs are running in the background. This will drain your battery. Battery life is a function of the work the device is performing. Additionally, with regard to the battery life, try changing your power management setting to a more conservative one. You can do this in the control panel, in the power management category on your system. Select a more conservative power management setting to extend battery life.
