This system does have a CD/DVD reader-writer. You can also download the latest drivers for your printer by going to the printer's manufacturer's web site.

How does this deal with editing documents offline?

You can't use the Chrome System off line. The whole concept is based on connection to the "cloud". All programs are on the Google Server, in the "Cloud".
