Can you tune down the refresh rate of the monitor from 240hz to 144hz?

Try adjusting the refresh rate within the NVIDIA control panel. Go to display -> change resolution on the list on the left. Afterwards, you can select different resolutions, but they are all stuck at 120Hz (or 144Hz on the other panel I guess). BUT, if you press customize, you can create 1080p res with 60Hz refresh rate. Save it, and apply to your system. If the issue continues, we recommend you contact Lenovo Legion Ultimate Support for additional help at: 888-278-9707.
