The M400 is indeed waterproof. The ability to transmit heart rate through the water however is limited. As for it counting steps, depending the on the exercise/activity the accelerometer within the watch would be able to record that data as steps taken - Mike @ PolarUSA

In the specifications it says the chest strap is not included but in the questions and answers replies to question what's included say the strap is included. Is this on clearance because the strap is not included at this price?

It would appear that the specification write of the FT4 is incorrect on the Best Buy website. The FT4 is packaged with the watch, the chest strap and the heart rate sensor (that snaps onto the strap). - Mike @ PolarUSA

I have an F7 and RS300, can I use the HR sensor strap with the M400?

The chest transmitter that is sold with the FT7 picks up the electrical impulse of the heart and then transmits that information to the watch the user would be wearing. If there is something in vicinity that is producing an electrical impulse (like a pacemaker), then yes, erratic readings could show itself. - Mike @ PolarUSA
